We visited this place at first weekend of January as it has been recommended to us by a friend. We left the car at spacious car park, pay to honesty box, there is a cafe and toilets facilities which is very helpful if you travel with children. The cafe staff is helpful and serves a good quality food, freshly made and not too expensive. The walk up to the beginning of the forest and the trail isn't difficult and takes you through quite road next to two lakes. Once in the forest there is a steep walk uphill so be aware, kids may complain and get discouraged quickly;) adults may find it a little difficult too ;) it makes you breathe heavily;) once you get through that it is easy going through the forest. We had a small map with us which is a part of a leaflet, you can find it on the website and you can print it for your use. It comes handy as kids can follow it as a treasure map/hunt. The sculptures are beautiful, but if it is wet and muddy you could do with a pair of wellies to get closer to some of them;) it doesn't take long to walk round, maybe an hour if you stop to take photos, some of the sculpture have a small description, good for storytelling for kids;) Overall, a good day out and we will definitely come back when the weather gets nicer ;)

An excellent experience for the family. A nice walk up a tarmacadam lane from Barley with views over to Pendle Hill. Only the last short part is on rougher ground so inaccessible for a wheelchair. Sculptures are fascinating scattered around the wood. The children, though just loved exploring the trees and playing.

I was lucky enough to photograph a unique wedding ceremony in the woods at the sculpture trail back in September. The trail is so wonderful, with some really unique art. The walk is really atmospheric, especially in the rain and fog! We went back to The Pendle Inn for food afterwards - highly recommended. I am going to return for a hike there asap!

Great walk, not too long a loop, but it's uphill to start and open to the elements, so be prepared. Once you get to the start of the trail, it flattens out and becomes a really nice trail to explore. My kids all enjoyed it.

Well worth the effort. And it does involve effort. From the moment you leave the village of Barley and set off towards the forest, where the sculptures are located, it is uphill. And steeply so when one enters the wood from the approach road. The sculptures are varied and worth the effort though I had expected rather more of them than there were. When we visited in March the areas around the individual sculptures were, in some cases, very muddy and could not be approached closely. The Barley Picnic area where one parks has a very good restuarant and..a RARE find these days...a public toilet, well maintained. Well done Barley. Voluntary donations, as little as 20p, are requested to cover the annual maintenance costs of £7000. The local authority had intended to close it but the village kept it open. A very reasonable request in my view. Parking is also cheap at £1.50 for 3 hours.

Great for kids and was lovely to do in autumn. Enjoyed the little clues and riddles to solve along the way. Managed to fit in Pendle Hill afterwards too - total from Barley for both trips was 13km and about 4.5 hours with my 7 year old and 39 week bump.

Fantastic walk out from Barley if you park at the main car park which is a number plate recognition pay on way out via machine Also the path via the park village centre then follow signs for reservoir a little uphill walk on tarmac also the woodlands bit if you are with children you may need a good buggy stony rough path but we'll worth the effort.

Prepare yourself for quite a long walk to get to the start of the trail (past the reservoir) and then an uphill walk in the woods for quite a way before you see the first sculpture. But after that the sculptures are great - interesting and high quality

Quirky little trail with some good sculptures to look at, although the route was a little confusing (and steep!). Definitely need your wellies too if it's been raining.

Excellent walk through Aitken wood, some brilliant sculptures and great views from the top of the hill.

Quite fun to wander round and kids would love it. The only downside is it's about a miles walk from Barley itself, so wouldn't be great for anyone with mobility issues

It's up a steep hill and when you get there you realise it's a bit dilapidated and hasn't really been upgraded or cared for. Then again if it belongs to the council then that's not surprising as they've got extremely limited funds for this kind of thing. Not sure how long it's been here as I missed the information boards . Quite a pagan sort of theme which is surely outdated nowadays. A number of the exhibits were falling apart or had been vandalised. I think perhaps the curators are perhaps going for the Banksy Dismaland look. Kids might enjoy it if you can haul them up the hill.

Have visited before and bit sad to see some of the sculptures needing some tlc, still amazing though and love the new additions. Bit of a steep walk at first but well worth it, there is a bench half way up. Highly recommend.

Some interesting sculptures and a good puzzle to complete on the walk around. Missed the Boggart sculpture unfortunately, I think one or two others as well, and never found the last riddle. Quite a few of the sculptures are a little off the path and not signposted. Views are a little mediocre. There is no parking nearby, and the initial hill up to the loop is steep, so be wary of visiting with little ones or ppl with mobility trouble. Probably only worth three stars, but it's nice that it's there and would be a shame if it closed.

Was a lovely day out even though it rained ..it is a lovely quiet walk with some lovely sculptures . There is a little cafe at the start of the trail. With restrooms. On the way to the actual trail there is a little pub which also serves food.

A fascinating trail The walk is quite a way from parking in Barley. The climb uphill to the start of the trail quite steep. The paths are a mixture of very good and forest trail. Do download the map before arrival. Signal here is minimal Without the map it's easy to miss some of the sculptures. I know, took me three visits to find the dryad, at one point I was within a couple of metres but didn't know! There are no restrooms at the site and only a couple of seats, generally congregated at the start and end. The sculptures themselves are interesting and with the download add to the story of the Pendle witches.

There are some good sculptures ( models) but most are broken. They would benefit from some attention. Found it disappointing

Quite steep - not for the faint hearted. Could be improved with stories/facts at each sculpture to make it more of a trail. Beautiful views from the top. Got lost a few times, better signposting might help. Absolutely no parking available here.

1st Visit and the route is clearly signposted and easy to get too with a lovely walk past the reservoirs on the way up. The sculpture trail was very good, great secure woods to be able to take dogs too, we let our puppy off and loved being able to run around. It's free.
