Person behind the counter was less than cordial. They misheard my order and gave me something I did not ask for. When I kindly asked for what I ordered was told they didn’t have what I wanted. They offered no suggestion just stared at me annoyed like how dare I not know their menu. They made me feel like I had to apologize for their mistake. Then they proceeded to mock me with the next customer right in front of my face. Our coffees were cold and actually gross and $5 for a size medium. This place used to be good. Get new help.

I used to love this place because it does have a cozy vibe & good coffee… but my friends and I have had some bad experiences lately and won’t be back. I know several people who have had issues with a man there. Not sure if he is an employee or the owner - grey hair, glasses. I NEVER write reviews but he’s extremely condescending and left a very bad taste in my mouth. He basically berated me because I walked in on a very crowded day and grabbed the only seat left without ordering yet (I just wanted to make sure I had a spot to sit!). I opened my laptop to connect to wifi/ respond to a work message quick. He came over twice in the matter of less than 5 minutes to tell me how I can’t come in and work without ordering anything when I had already told him (very nicely) I would just be a minute I wasn’t sure what I wanted yet. I was planning on staying a few hours, getting a few coffees, and food. His tone was extremely belittling and icky and left me feeling like I wasn’t welcome. I felt really uncomfortable so I just left. The same guy has done similar things to friends of mine and it’s super bizarre, especially for a coffee shop where so many people will work remote from. It’s a shame because it’s a spot I used to visit frequently. I’d rather spend my time and money in a place with better vibes :/

This is a great Cafe. We were visiting from Australia (Melbourne) and love our coffee. We found the coffee excellent, the choc chip cookies fabulous and we could even get avocado on toast. Staff are so friendly and create a really welcoming place to visit.

I really wanted to like this spot more but it was just ok. We didn’t like the mocha, just not enough flavor. Cold brew was good, not too acidic.

I recently visited Cafe Volan and I must say that my experience was nothing short of disappointing. The owner, an older gentleman with grey hair and glasses, displayed a level of rudeness and disrespect that left me feeling incredibly uncomfortable. From the moment I stepped foot inside the shop, I felt unwelcome. The owner, who seemed to take it upon himself to personally monitor every customer's actions, made it abundantly clear that I needed to purchase something every hour I spent there. This policy, while understandable to a certain extent, was enforced in such an aggressive manner that it made me question my decision to even stay. Not only was the owner's behavior off-putting, but his overall demeanor was quite unsettling. He appeared to have a knack for making customers feel like they were intruding on his personal space, as if we were nuisances rather than paying patrons. His condescending tone and dismissive attitude towards inquiries or requests only added to the unpleasant experience. Additionally, the owner's lack of basic courtesy was truly astonishing. Instead of providing a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere, he seemed to thrive on making customers uncomfortable. It's truly disheartening when a simple visit to a coffee shop becomes a source of stress and unease. Given the numerous coffee shops and cafes available in the area, I would highly recommend exploring other options before considering Cafe Volan. The negative encounter I had with the owner overshadowed any potential positives that the establishment may have had, leaving me with a sour taste in my mouth - both figuratively and literally. In conclusion, my visit to Cafe Volan was marred by the rude and disrespectful behavior of the owner. I sincerely hope that he reevaluates his approach towards customer service, as it is essential for any business to foster an environment of respect and hospitality.

Their coffee is a little strong for me but my boyfriend loves it. You MUST go for their specialty toasts. A hidden gem as they’re not on the menu. It seems they have one a day but they’re all awesome. I’ve had a mascarpone jelly toast and avocado toast that were both the best I’ve ever had. Avocado is fresh and is topped with a little olive oil and spices. YOU MUST TRY IT!

Dirty chai doesn't have a lot of flavor and is not sweet at all. The espresso also doesn't taste particularly good. Overpriced.

Visited this place late morning on Saturday, November 18, 2023. The place is small and the atmosphere dreary. Did not get a single hello from the two baristas who looked at me like I was being intrusive for just being in their shop. There is no board menu and when I asked what they have the male barista showed me a small menu. I ordered their specialty coffee from Papua New Guinea, which tasted bitter. Couldn't stomach the taste of this coffee so I threw it out as soon as I went outside. Wasted $3.00. Definitely will not be back.

Cool cozy little coffee shop in Asbury Park. Got a latte to drink in and drip to take away. Both high quality and delicious. Walk here from the empress hotel where I was staying. Great atmosphere and good service. Would definitely return.

The coffee is strong, dark, and delicious. We got cappuccino and iced decaf Americano, definitely worth the trip. The everything croissant with cream cheese in the middle from Balthazar was excellent.

Rainy day calls for hot chocolate, and it was amazing! You will not be disappointed in anything you order here!

Coffee was mediocre. The owner is rude and arrogant. The service is horrible. I was told I needed to buy something every hour if I wanted to sit at a table. The place was not crowded. Mind you I had just spent over $20. The owner is a nasty little man. Go anywhere else but here

They are currently serving Maiden coffee, roasted in Neptune City. I appreciate that they aim for well-crafted espresso drinks without rushing! Great outdoor seating area.

Ordered a quick double espresso and raspberry toast. The order was express service and their was an even, perfect smooth glaze of raspberry jam across a plateu of a piece of a thick multi grain or grain based loaf of bread. My only comment is the glass that my double was in could have been heated up. I know the heat from the espresso machine where the cups sit is supposed to keep them warm but I think it would improve how quickly the drink cools down. It was a very humid day I believe the espresso would have a better reception on the taste buds had it been ground finer that day but that is completely my thought and I am not an expert. I believe the espresso machine is designed to pour directly into a cafe cup but it is not my house. Espresso effects kicked in rapidly a great source for all day energy if you ask me and the portion of the meal was well worth the affordable price. I would definitely recommend this shop over others around the area. Check out all the exotic stuff out front of the store as well for some picturesque enjoyment! 5 star for service, price, and time. Small confident team of staff gives every customer the right level service for new york cityesque CaFé.

This is our stop on weekend bike rides through Monmouth County. Great atmosphere and never too crazy busy to get double macchiatos that are made expertly in the Italian style (with a nice strong coffee liquor finish) and sparkling water. Good scones too.

Walking around asbury park on Friday morning, thought I'd give them a try. The staff was pleasant, ready to start the morning. I ordered the Avocado 🥑 toast w hot sauce ( good 👍)sauce gave it nice flavor, and a Chai tea 🍵 ( it was okay) way to hot, had to wait a few minutes to drink it. We will see next time.

Went here because somebody recommended this area and said it was the best coffee. Masks are required ( seems like that might be an entire Asbury Park area ) and she would not take my order unless I put one on. Which is absolutely ridiculous because then I sat down two feet away from the counter and didn't have to wear one for the next 2 hours. The coffee was average. I definitely have had better. Wish the Cafe across the street was open but they were closed for holiday. The inside of that one looked way cooler.

Is Asbury Park coming back? Well, when it does this place will be ready. I found Volan to be trendy but not pretense. The coffee is very good and the treats and top-shelf. The staff was friendly. I would be interested in seeing what the management could do with a larger space.
