Amazing church structure on the top of the hill. We parked at the bottom of the hill where there is the lookout. But there are not enough parking spot there. The lookout can over see the city as well as the view of the church from the bottom. Its very beautiful. The walk (all steps) from the bottom the the top is about 30 minutes. But its worth the walk, that you can see lots of spiritual sculpture and different angle of the church from the downward view.

Amazing place with a stunning view of Braga! The church is very nice. The park is also excellent with picnic areas and playground for children. But the stairs leading to the church are the main atraction! If you start at the bottom, there are several staircases leading to the top. I really recommend this place!

Good Jesus of the Mount, what an interesting historical location place with a stunning view of Braga. Beautiful architecture, worth coming up. You can use the funicular but walking (577 steps) isn't too difficult either. The Sanctuary is a notable example of pilgrimage site with a monumental, Baroque stairway that climbs 116 meters. It is an important tourist attraction of Braga. Built in a complex assemblage of architectural styles, Jesus do Monte’s roots date all the way back to the 14th century. Each feature of the site contains its own symbology, independent of the others, making the entire site packed with visually arresting, bizarre details. The staircases themselves are Baroque in style, with granite steps and a white facade. Take for instance, the perpetually-flowing fountains found on the staircases’ landings. It would be easy to miss that each is dedicated to one of the five senses (touch, smell, taste, sight, sound), the effect of which can be incredibly disconcerting on an individual level when removed from the collective whole.

I enjoyed my visit a lot. This place is amazing. Braga is a beautiful small city in the north of Portugal and one of the most famous places to visit there is Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary. It is the main tourist attraction in Braga and also a pilgrimage site, having more than 100 meters of stairs to get to the top. But if you don't feel like climbing up through the stairs, there is an old tram that can get you to the top but you have stay in line for that.

If you visit Braga, dont forget to drop by in Bom Jesus , a very nice place to see, you have 2 choices to reach the top 1.) Take by a small tram (you should pay 2€.50 )or just walk (650) steps

I love this place, is very calm and has gorgeous views of the city of Braga. the church is beautiful a lot of history here, the cable railway is okay, the price is fair. I think that needs more food and drink options. the pond with carps is definitely not well kept. But in general is very good place to spend some time with family or even alone.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful ! It is populated by tourists yes but should that stop you from visiting no ! Locals will complain about this problem but I could see past it and appreciated the amazing architectures and gardens. It’s a place you want to stay a bit and take in. There’s drink and restroom available me at the top. Getting to the top is recommended by the fun old “funicular” lift (you need cash) and walk down to the bottom via the stairs.

This was a very unexpectedly wonderful visit. The site is a religious place and the sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte is beautiful and impressive in size. Even if you are not a believer like myself I would recommend stopping here. Apart from the sanctuary which is worth the visit on its own, there are other beautiful areas nearby. We spent around an hour and a half wandering around as it was pretty relaxing and we visited early in the morning when not many people were around. We parked our car in the parking lot close to the sanctuary but if you feel you can walk you can park for free and walk your way up to the sanctuary (there is also an elevator taking you up from there as well) Happy we stopped here!

The tour arranged for the tram ride to the top to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte. I only appreciated the ride when I descended the Baroque stairway down 116 meters. If I walked up the stairs, I probably may not have enjoyed the shrine and terrific city view of Braga at the top as much. The biggest attraction is the beautiful stairway which was not difficult to descend. It made an amazing picture from the bottom.

In addition to being a beautiful place, with old buildings and lots of history, it also offers plenty of green areas and opportunities for leisurely walking around. It's the main tourist attraction in Braga, and a must-see. If you're not feeling like walking up the 690 flights of stairs (but you should) there is a hydraulic elevator that will take you up. Come here with plenty of time to explore, and stop by the hotel for a coffee. They have great service!

Amazing church, a real must see when in the area. Do mind you have to walk a lot of stair before you get there.

  • 5/5 Kleber C. 5 years ago on Google
The most impressive baroque stairs that I've ever visited and studied. That's such a matter piece of architecture and the place has a magic atmosphere. It's free entrance but it's on top of a hill. If you don't want upstairs you can also climb the hill using a funicular but I do recommend upstairs cause it was well designed and you also will enjoy all water fonts on the way up. The church is beautiful and there's also two hotels and a cafe on top. Behind the church there's a park where you also can walk around. That's the best attraction in Braga!

  • 5/5 Marius G. 3 years ago on Google
Worth a visit - you should plan at least 2h to walk around there. Be careful where you are parking - we parked at the top so we had to talk down all the stairs and then up again 😊

  • 4/5 Anders S. 3 years ago on Google
Wonderful are around the Church! The stairs includes 14 stops with Bible verses to meditate over. Nice view over the surrounding landscape. No entrance fee to the Church (2020-07-18). Exceptional altar in the Church.

The one of the amazing and spectacular place I ever been. Especially we arrive in afternoon and got a chance to see the “Monte” during the day, till sunset and then see it in the night. The magic made by the nature lighting has shown the most beautiful view out of the “Monte”. It’s a place full of energy and you feel calm and relax when you are here. Really like the atmosphere here.

  • 5/5 Jose V. 3 years ago on Google
Well worth climbing up the amazing diagonal steps and with a nice cafe at the top to reward you for your efforts. Take in the spectacular views and if you leave it till late afternoon theres always the prospect of an amazing sunset too.

Definitely one of the top attractions to visit in Portugal. Located within a big city and very close to Porto, the Sanctuary is gorgeous! The richness of details is eye catching and the water circulating throughout the Sanctuary helps to create such picture. Also, it is possible to enjoy one of the great views of the city of Braga.

The sanctuary is located on the outskirts of Braga, being possible to climb on foot (with patience) up its famous stairs of almost 600 steps. Quite a personal challenge. The landscaped environment of the sanctuary is always very well cared for. The views it offers of the city are also worth it. Beautiful church on top of the hill. The architecture is lovely, even the surroundings are very serene. The views of the city from top of the place are totally worth visiting the place. Also, the place has nice gardens, cafes on the top. As for parking, there are plenty of spots on top and even at bottom, depending on where you want to be though the best view of the stunning architecture is from the middle. In the evenings you will also find lot of locals climbing, hiking, jogging up the hill (and even cycling!). There is also an elevator which you can take (tickets are 1.5-2 euros), but would totally recommend walking the pathway. Would totally recommend giving this place a visit

A very beautifull church worth watching. Don't take the little train up but take the stairs. It's worth it. All the statues are great to watch. On the top there is a lot to see besides the church. A little lake where you can rent a rowboat, small caves with dripping water and some restaurants. And of course the view is beautiful.

This place is just unbelievable. The church and the stairways are unique the surrounding gardens are beautiful and the view is overwhelming. Worth a visit!!

Very cool spot. You have to walk the stairs up, it's worth it. If you get there for 12 pm you will hear a long bell ringing. Up there you will find an awesome cave just on the left side of the church.

A Nice place to spend some time together or by yourself. It has some interesting fountains and if you are lazy a funicular to make it faster. A nice view of the city, a wonderful rock structure and an amazing staircase structure. Overall it is definitely a place to see !

Lovely place ❣️ suitable for everything. Family walk, sports cross or just fun. Above the stairs there are lake with boats, lovely play area with zipper line, fitness and place for picnic.

If you can, walk up from the very bottom. It's quiet with long, peaceful, tree-lined walkways and fountains. Also recommend exploring the park behind the cathedral.

This was a very beautiful surprise to visit to see well taken care of the gardens and hear the bells ringing. Enjoy a stroll around a charming lake or rent boat for a nice romantic afternoon. Take the little train up the hillside. Just enjoy your day here and take a lot pictures and pack a picnic.

We liked this place very much. There's a special atmosphere ethics is good. Walking the stairs was not as difficult as anticipated. The view from there over the city is magnificent. We wouldn't have missed it.

It's very beautiful, calm and sacred place. A going up to the top at the "Bom Jesus do Monte" is a small pilgrimage .

Gorgeous view, not too hard to walk up. The church is beautiful..

Definitely worth a visit when you visit Braga. What a beautiful church this is with a nice view. The well-known long stairs to and from the church are very beautiful. Well worth taking.

Nice modern church (it's not very old) on a hill overlooking the city of Braga. You can climb up or take a cable tram. We parked on the top. When you climb down the steps you have perhaps the best view of the church (or turn around for a view of the city below).

YouTube our short on this location! 😊We loved going up the trolly! On the way back we walked down the stairs! It was incredible! We love that there is so much love for Jesus! Feeling blessed to be here for sure! You can spend hours here but we spent about 1.5 hours

Really relaxing experience (and free to boot). The interior of the buildings were ok, but the outside scenic area is really nice. Not sure what’s going on with the artificial cave near the top back of the place, but it was certainly bizarre to see. Otherwise, the architecture was nice and the mosaic floor pieces with moss growing in the cracks was really charming. Also, do keep a look out for the many fountains when you go down the steps! It’s really quite unique… The mountain air was really nice in the fall, must see in braga 🫡

Excellent attraction. So much better than I expected. Parking at the top is 1 euro, entry to the church is free. Superb mountain views and the surrounding area and steps must be seen to believe. Stations of the cross also good.

Fascinating place, there is so much more here than I thought there would be. There are extensive walks behind the made buildings, a small boating area and lots of nature. Well worth a visit.

The sanctuary and grounds are gorgeous! I can only imagine how beautiful the view from this place is on a clear day... #2 bus takes you to the base of the nearly 600 stairs. A taxi from the Braga train station about 10-12 €.

Bom Jesus do Monte is a must see! We drove all the way up and paid just €1 for parking. We walked down the steps and back up. The stations of the cross are on each level of the steps. You can also take a funicular but we decided to get our exercise in while we visited. There is a gift shop between the grotto and the church.

This is beautiful, serene and there's lots to see. If you arrive at the top, you can go down the steps and up again or take a taxi back to the top. There is the funicular but you need to have enough time. Recommend that you allocate at least 4 hours here, if you can go down the steps. There are little chapels with statues on each level of the steps. Of course, going up the steps is a lot harder than going down.

Actually a really beautiful experience! Stunning view from the top. There was a wedding going on so didn't get inside, but definitely worth spending a couple of hours. Some places to get a coffee or a drink. Statues along the way, are interesting and so dramatic you can feel those emotions...

Beautiful church on the top of the hill overlooking Braga. If you walk up the stairs make sure to look at all of the stations of the cross on the way up. In the main church it shows the Romans with Jesus up on Mt. Golgotha on the alter. The church is amazing inside too. Pretty gardens in front of the church and up in the gardens.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Bon Jesus de Monte is an absolute treasure that should not be missed when you're in the North of Portugal. To get there, I highly recommend taking the bus from Braga city center, as it's a convenient way to arrive. The fact that it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2017 speaks volumes about its significance. The journey begins with a spectacular flight of stairs that serves as a grand entrance to this majestic religious site. As you ascend, the sense of wonder and peace gradually envelops you. Upon reaching the top, the view is nothing short of breathtaking. The vantage point offers panoramic vistas that are sure to leave an indelible mark on your memory. What truly stood out to me was the serene and charming ambiance of Bon Jesus de Monte. It's a place where one can truly escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and find solace in its beauty. During my visit, I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of crowds, which allowed for a more intimate and personal experience. In summary, Bon Jesus de Monte is an enchanting destination that seamlessly combines religious significance, architectural splendor, and natural beauty. Its UNESCO status is well-deserved, and I can confidently say that this site is a must-visit for anyone exploring the North of Portugal.

This was a beautiful church that was a surprise for the intricacy of the interior and attached chapels. It was definitely worth the drive or if you need to take the funicular to get to it that is also worthwhile. Very beautiful ‼️‼️

It's a quick Uber ride from Braga. You get dropped off on the same level as the church, so you can explore it and then walk down that amazing staircase. There's a place to get drinks right next to the church. The views are fantastic. The grounds are clean and well maintained.

Beautiful church and grounds! Lots of places with photo opportunities and great views of the city. You can walk the steps or take an electric car to go up and down the several steps in front of the church. Besides the church there is a great square with a coffee shop and an ice cream place. A great place to stop, appreciate the view and grab some snacks.

To be fair, we didn't go ALL THE WAY UP. It was a fun drive up steep and twisty roads (like so many places in Portugal!) but the roads were generally wide and safe. Some lovely views. The idea of walking up 577 steps was just too daunting for this girl!

Bom Jesus do Monte, definitely the highlight of our Braga trip. Like your parents always tell you. Go to the washroom before you leave the station. You have to pay at the station or at Bom Jesus. We took the 20 minute bus ride from the station. Taking the number 2 bus that leaves (every 30 minutes) from the far left as you exit the station. You can buy your fare from the transit wicket in the station and have your fare loaded to a card at a discount. Return the card when you are done to get 1 Euro back per card! Keep your eyes peeled for curiosities as you head up, like the Braga sign and the historical district. There is a lovely shopping area if that is more your thing. You can ride a tram to the cathedral or if you are into stairs, take the path near the park entrance to the stairs. There are a lot of them and it is fairly shady on the approach, take the right stairs once you reach the mezzanine as that is shady. Some people, run the stairs for a workout. At the top you will find pay washrooms and refreshments.

A fantastic site steeped in history, with an amazing grotto at the top which is highly photogenic so great for those romantic poses for social media accounts. Beautiful views ove the city of Braga and the ability to see the shimmering sea, the hills of Galicia make this a worthwhile trip.

The number 1 tourist place visited in Braga, a must see this conglomerate of beauties in just one place and please take the funicular for one more experience. YOU DEFINITELY MUST TO SEE IT.

Although it may be out of the way if you're visiting Port, it's a must go destination. The architecture, the scenic views of the city below, and just the overall planning of this magnificent structure is something to be seen. The drive up the mountain is gorgeous with beautiful houses and parks that, if you can, stop by and visit.

Great experience! My suggestion is to climb all the stairs, great view of the city and nice to stop and check all the small chapels with catholic representation. Church well manteined, stunning interior, absolutely worth seeing. Nice garden outside Completely free of charge.

Stunning views from this gorgeous church. Lovely walks, gardens and a big park a little further up. Very unusual alter scene showing Roman soldiers. The interior is very beautiful. Nice gift shop next door with a good range of both religious & non religious items.
