I’ve been to this museum probably 50 times. It’s still one of my favorite places to visit when I get to Bloemfontein. I wish they had more funding to expand, but its still one of the best places I go to. Everyone is friendly, everything is clean and really informative. Yes there’s updates needed but you can’t go wrong with a fantastic museum. Family friendly, my favorite area is the Solar System section. Take a chance on this museum it might just surprise you!

Absolutely incredible! Well kept and organised, a wide diversity of displays and exhibits. I recommend spending at least two hours in the museum to see all the museum has to offer. Perfect place to take children to learn about natural history as well as Bloemfontein and South African history. I will definitely be back to go through the exhibits properly. I arrived late on Saturday and didn't get time to go through everything properly. Take note of the correct opening time: Mon - Fri: 09:00 - 16:30 Sat: 10:00 - 15:00 Sun: Closed

Had a wonderful day entertaining the little ones at the National Museum. Fun day was had by all. I have not been to the Museum in ages, and just experiencing everything through the eyes of my grandchildren was priceless. Something money cannot by. The absolute beauty af it all. The magnificent animals on exhibition are awesome. The size of the giraffe, elephant and rhino take your breath away. Do yourself a favor and visit the Museum when you have some free time on your hands. I promise you will not be disappointed.

The museum was nice and the students really enjoyed the exhibition. We went for a lesson on space but in the future the presenter must try not to be so anxious as she made some mistakes and we dont mind as we are all here to learn. I saw they were busy with renovation and i cant wait to see what they have inside.

Another informative historic museum, entry fees around R8 for adult. Spacious spent about and hour. A lot has been put in this museum and not sustained. In need of some funding. Aside from this it's worth a visit.

Quite impressed with the museum, you can see some of the displays have been around for donkeys years, a little dusty but still very interesting. Well worth the visit. The entrance was only R32 for five if us and it was a good two or three hours worth of entertainment. The building is clean and well maintained.

Having visited this museum as a child, it was a real privilege to be able take a close family friend and my 4 year old daughter on a journey through the exhibits. Is was pleasantly surprised to see that the condition of the place is still very good. The exhibits are very well kept and had some very interesting things we learned. They were suitable for my daughter while still being interesting for adults. There was also a great diversity of ideas and we thoroughly enjoyed our time.

Bloemfontein' National Museum is a small time capsule of natural history which manifested in the heartland. It's not only interesting for students and adults. but it is also a fun place for children to encounter the wonders of natural history!

This is a hidden gem of Bloemfontein. For a R5 entry, you can see the most amazing exhibits. Parking is a bit difficult, but worth the struggle. Amazing exhibits on the history of BFN, which is extremely informative. They have different topics they choose per quarter, well Worth it to book a session for your child. We did a session on the Birds of South Africa andeven I was amazed at the quality of the session. It was extremely interactive and my 5 year old enjoyed it immensely. The quality of the animals on exhibit is astounding. We've been there twice and will be back for more visits this year.

Museum is definitely one of the best sites in bloemfontein. in one short visit I learnt more about the geology in history of this region than I would have ever imagined. their explanations of the karoo supergroup were better than anything I've found online. Fossil exhibit was excellent. The historical Street scene created on the second Deck is so authentic you forget your in a museum. The tool development display from stone age to steel is about the best I've ever seen. And the price could not be lower. Only problem the audio guide devices were all dead. No one charged the batteries.

Wow. We had the most fun. My child keeps on asking when we can go back. The learning experience is the best. All the "new rooms of historical information" blew me away.

I've been here many many years ago until this date and it was great. The displays were great and all the information about the history was so educational

  • 4/5 Johan V. 4 years ago on Google
Interesting museum. Unfortunately the lighting is not so good on some of the exhibits. I still liked it and found the street scene exhibit very interesting. At the time of my visit the entrance fee was R10 for adults, R5 for school children and R2,00 for pre-school children.

This place needs tour guides if it's to be declared resourceful, every thing has to be played on tape as for information, I liked the metallurgy part.

One of my favorite places to visit in Bloemfontain. The museum is slowly upgrading displays. Make sure to check out the upgraded anthropology display especially the history of early tools. The mammal curator is extremely knowledgeable and provides a very educational overview.

A forgotten "something to do" thing to do in Bloemfontein. Good variety of exhibits. Great place to take the kids to visually see a variety of animals and to show how people lived in the "old" times. Entry fee is extremely low.

  • 4/5 Nicholas W. 2 years ago on Google
Very well maintained considering the rather cheap entrance fee. So much to see and the exhibits are very well done and maintained. I would recommend a visit when in the area.

  • 5/5 Prudence C. 2 years ago on Google
The information in this museum is just out of this world. From politics, animals, planets, human history. It's a real national museum. Spent close to 2hours in there. Information galore. All cities shud have something like this. Love 🤩💓 it.

  • 4/5 Willie & Annelize P. 2 years ago on Google
Very nice, and friendly people. Just need a bit of maintenance. But still I will recommend the museum. And it is cheap. Just for the note, they don't have card facilities.

A great place to take the kids, very educational. Parking is an issue though, as is wheelchair access through the main entrance. There are, however, lifts inside the building. Tuckshop was closed both times we visited (Saturdays) in the past 6 months. Entrance was REALLY affordable!

  • 4/5 Eduard de K. 1 year ago on Google
What a pleasant surprise, the museum is well laid out, well maintained and has a large variety of subjects, items, dioramas etc to view. Was also impressed with the amount of visitors of all ages we saw there, which shows that there is alot of interest in museums. Only negative is that the shop is not functional so any refreshment you have to bring yourself.

Worth the visit. One of Africa's biggest genuine dinosaur fossil collection. Some of the presentations are very old but still very unique. The replica victorian period town within the musuem is certainly a must visit.

Though it looks small from outside, the museum has extensive collections in zoology, paleontology, mineralogy, local history and anthropology. Nice museum, definitely worth a visit if you are in Bloemfontein. May need a bit of upkeep, but it looks difficult with the entrance price of only 10 ZAR.

Variety of displays. Well kept. Reception was warm and person was knowledgeable. Well worth a visit, will definitely want to visit more times to focus on specific subjects/displays. Only sad face is because of the big sign "Live Bees!" pointing to a glass case - which has no bees, only posters about something else. Overall very enjoyable and informative experience. Parking across the street from entrance.

Very reasonably priced and in excellent condition. There are many amazing exhibits most so is the mini-aquarium and the depiction of a street scene in pioneer era Bloemfontein. There are temporary exhibits which are a reason to revisit this museum regularly.

Loved this part of the museum was like being time warped back the late 1890 -1900 very cool the rest off the museum was also nice

I enjoyed the museum and the various exhibits, especially the solar system display, and upstairs "old town" displays. I was happy to see that the displays were explained in. Few different languages, however I was left a little confused as to why so many of the braille plaques were behind glass, with no way of being felt by a blind visitor - it is possible that I missed something and that a representative from the museum may accompany you on a tour, however I didn't see any signage or information that would suggest this.

This museum has amazing exhibits that are perfectly maintained. Friendly staff and even live exhibitions. It exceeded our expectation in every way.

  • 4/5 Natasja C. 4 years ago on Google
The extent of information and history that one can experience at the National Museum was far greater than we expected! For me it really was a huge treat!!! Although the exhibitions are old and not in pristine condition, the employees keep it nice and clean. Entrance at that stage was only R10. I think interest has declined over time, leading to the museum financially unable to renovate necessary exhibitions, due to the safety of the surrounding area largely and secondary an overall disinterest of families and schools taking young people to museums as educational or recreational tours. But if you are one who still loves to learn about a vast range of topics in an artistic manor and making an excursion out of it, or who is interested in trying it out, I think you will definitely enjoy it! So give it a try!

The museum is nice, clean and well looked after. The exhibits is a bit old and can use some improvements. Some of the exhibits needs attention eg. "The bees" there were supposed to be live bees, but at the end nothing. Other than that, if you are well into the history, then this is a nice place to come learn and collect info.
