A must-see! Visitors come from all over the world to visit the Shipwreck Museum. Shipwrecks' history is fascinating (people ate their shoes to survive), entire house with all antique contents, huge wagon shed, 3000 glass bottle collection, beautiful garden with anchors, huge shed with wagons. Extremely clean, well kept with friendly and well-informed staff.

Excellent. This museum is much bigger than it looks from the outside.

Super little museum detailing the large number of wrecks that have occurred over hundreds of years, on the nearby coastline. Of particular interest are the numerous artifacts recovered from the wrecks. There's also a nice garden with cannon, anchors and a number of horse drawn vehicles to examine. Finishing it all off are several turn of the 19th century furnished rooms. All in all a great way to spend an hour or two.

It was an unexpected surprise. The museum is well kept. I especially liked the huge anchors arranged around a big old fig tree.

Great museum, a visit to History, learning experience to know about those ship tragedies, great collection of ship wreck stuff. closed on Public Holidays, weekends. But open from Mon-Fri 9-4. But It's always good to check timings as it was showing open on Saturday even, may be because of December holiday days time.

The museum was typical of most museums but amusing because it is a Shipwreck museum found in an inland town! There is a lot of history recorded with interesting artifacts found at various shipwrecks around the western Cape. Meeting Juno, a friendly ginger cat on staff was a real treat!

Interesting and very well presented history. Pity that the lighting in some area and spaces is very poor and one cannot read the descriptions

Museum staff switched off the door bell which left us outside in the rain phoning the Museum to open the door. The wreck displays seem neglected with light not working and out of order signs. We found the other buildings interesting.

Excellent museum. The staff made the exhibitions come alive for my group of 13 primary kids. We really enjoyed our visit. Even the one boy who don't like visiting museums found the visit interesting and not "boring" at all.

Interesting small museum. They display small items from shipwrecks around the area. Some other interesting stuff in display as well including an old house to showcase the way of life. There are a few coaches and a fire engine at the back as well. Entry Adults R30/ Kids R15. Staff were pretty helpful. Must stop if you are passing through the area.

It is a wonderful walk (or should that be sail?) through history when shipping was more than transporting goods and a leisure trip. Back then, it was how people travelled great distances and came with its unique set of challenges. The evidence of wrecks on display illustrate the pain of several lives lost so tragically – and the long time it must have taken for their families to be told. Nevertheless, the museum would do well to have guides or voice clips at the various displays to give some context for those who may not be familiar with the maritime history of Bredasdorp. Outside, you will find a great place to relax with benches placed in the shade and sunshine to cater to your taste. There are neat and clean (though small) bathrooms on site and the lawns are well manicured. It was disappointing that the museum only accepts cash as payment. It’s worth your R30, but there’s greater potential here.

Very interesting museum. Unfortunately we had a very poor reception. We arrived just after 16h and was told by the receptionist that the museum was closed. Outside the notice board says the hours are until 16h45. We mentioned that and the she changed her story to closing time at 16h30 but informed us that they close at 16h for 16h30!!!! Luckily a gentleman came in from the back and said we could still come in. Is this now something that is spreading like a virus? The fact that people start to pack up more than half an hour before closing time? Poor service in a country that depends a lot on tourism!

Great experience, I always enjoy museums in the small towns. Lovely lady by the reception area, so welcoming. 😊 If you plan on visiting, please bring cash.

Small museum in the middle of Bredasdorp. Interesting themes , but only limited information about the shipwrecks. The museum needs some TLC. There is a lot of dust everywhere, the old coaches and firetruck were full of dust and sand and hidden in a dark barn. Two exposition houses smelled terrible. The museum has much more to offer then actually shown. It is sad to see on the website the entrance fee is R20 p.p. and at the door they charge you R60 p.p. Staff seems to be demotivated and is just hanging around.

Unfortunately the museum was closed even though their notice boards at the main door stated it is supposed to be open. We were there at 11am on Sat. Notice board starts it should be open from 10am on a Sat.

Small interesting well-kept museum. You should definitely visit it on the way to L'Agulhas. Take some time to explore and learn some history. Your kids will ask too many questions - be prepared

The shipwreck museum was interesting. I learnt a lot about the shipwrecks around the coastal area as well as about the first people in Bredasdorp

Enchanting little museum packed with memorabilia from a bygone age as well as scores of items recovered from local ship wrecks. Items are well-documented in English and Afrikaans and the staff are very friendly and open to questions.

This is a wonderful little museum! If you have any interest in sailing this is a must do. The collection is pretty impressive for the size of the place.

If you visit Bredasdorp, then you really should put aside an hour to visit the Shipwreck Museum. It is set up in much the same vein as Groot Constantia and other such museums in that the old cottage's rooms are furnished and decorated with loads of items from days gone by, depicting life as it was in the area and influences from elsewhere. There is one room dedicated to the shipwrecks along the nearby coast, with salvaged items on display and stories of each wreck. When we visited there was also a small display relating to slavery which I found interesting and worth attention.

A fascinating museum. Definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately this museum is not open on Saturdays and Sundays, which doesn't make sense to me. Many people miss out as a result.

Absolutely stunning - I never knew so many ship wrecks existed. A must to visit.

Small but well kept for museum in small town. Very interesting. Except for the shipwreck part, there are extra exhibitions as well as outside

πŸ‘πŸ‘ I initially wondered what would be special about visiting the Southern tip of Africa, but I shouldn't have. On a very sunny and clear day, being at the point where the Indian and the Atlantic oceans meet was a very memorable experience. Big open skies, sweeping views of two oceans at the same time,...

😐 Interesting place full of history. Not so well maintained exhibition with plastic-wrapped posters and definitely NY-level entrance prices. Not easy to climb ladders within - it gets tougher the higher up you get. Absolutely amazing views of the area, and friendly staff.
