Pretty church in downtown Montgomery that was an important location in the Civil rights movement. If you're visiting civil rights sites in the south, it should be on your stop. Across the street is a marker commemorating Jefferson Davis' inauguration and is easy walking distance to the Alabama state capital building where he took his oath of office. Oh, the irony of the start of the Confederacy, and the civil rights movement. Happy to see the civil rights movement ultimately winning the war, though, the battle continues to this day.

On our way to Disney World, we stopped by Montgomery, AL. I love stopping by anything historical and saw that we were close to where Martin Luther King lived and preached. I definitely had to stop here. We just finished talking about The Civil Rights Movement in my History class before the end of the school year.

With it's stained glass windows and woodwork make this a beautiful church. It is inspiring to be in a church where Dr. Martin Luther King was the pastor. It was easy to imagine him at the pulpit spreading the Lord's word and advocating for equality. There is a mural that tells the history of Dr. King and others that stood for equality and segregation. It is quite interesting and impactful. The tour was great, it didn't disappoint. Nikki showed us around, she was wonderful!!!!! She explained everything and interacted well with my special needs daughter. There was another women, I didn't get her name, was just as sweet as Nikki. You can see the spirit of the Lord working in these ladies. God bless you all.

We were here during the late great- Congressman John R. Lewis honorable memorial. In spite of Covid -19 it was such a moving occasion. Our first visit was in 3/2019. Our oldest daughter Sonoyia was a participant in the "Black Girls Run" 50K race from Selma to Montgomery. We're truly blessed by the glorious Civil Rights History and Legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and The King Family. Kindness is free; Let's pass it on.

Beautiful. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Martin Luther King, Jr. He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I arrived late in the evening and was only there for one day. I was able to walk around the area and take some photos. It was right down the street from the state capitol and the other government buildings. It is a beautiful church!

The highlight of my visit was standing at the very pulpit where Dr. King once delivered his inspiring sermons. As I looked out into the pews, I couldn't help but imagine the powerful words that had once filled the sanctuary, igniting hope and change in the hearts of countless individuals. It was an emotional experience that deepened my appreciation for the sacrifices made by civil rights activists. The moment I walked through the doors of Dexter Avenue Church, I felt an overwhelming sense of reverence and respect. It was as though the echoes of Dr. King's powerful sermons still resonated within those walls. The church's serene interior, with its beautiful stained glass windows and well-preserved pews, offered a glimpse into the past and allowed me to connect with the struggles and triumphs of the civil rights movement. As an African-American, my visit to the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, was an incredibly moving and deeply meaningful experience. Stepping into this historic church allowed me to connect with a pivotal part of our nation's civil rights history and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

I have seen this church on T.V many times during my childhood. I didn't know the church was right across the street from the state capital. Beautiful old building that still serves as a house of worship. Very historic very nice. I recommend seeing this landmark

I took a tour($10) of church. You can take pictures but someone from the group must be in the picture. They have a small gift shop with t-shirts for adults and children, writing pens, pencils, magnets and other great gifts. Be prepared for walking up a flight of stairs. No elevator. The sanctuary is beautiful and original.

We thought the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church was a lovely example of churches from the period. The history that occurred here is undeniable and this was a definite crucible of change. Unfortunately it was locked the morning that we visited but you could not miss the history here, even viewing only from the outside.

Such an amazing place to visit. The history of this church is worth going. Also, the rosa parks museum is right around the corner. It's a must see.

Took pic from outside, unable to go in. There is an historical marker to the side of the church.

The church and parsonage are locked and unmanned. No one answers a knock and no one answers the phone. These locations are too historically important to be shuttered. I drove 2 days to come to Montgomery to show up to nothing! If the current management can't open to the public then they should turn the sites over to the national parks department. Ebenezer Baptist does much better job of representing the spirit and history of MLK Jr.

The services were very up lifting. The word truly went forth. I enjoyed my visit and will return. Where the spirit is there is liberty.

Closed for COVID. Would love to come back some day to participate in the tour and see the inside.

How exciting to visit the church that Martin Luther King preached at! The street was quite empty since we visited on Christmas Day, but we still found the visit quite meaningful.

Came here to check out where Dr. Martin Luther King preached. Wouldn't you know it, the state house is right here too. What a great little area, so much history to learn about here. Highly recommend to stop by if you're in the area.

This church in downtown Montgomery has a long history and was the place that Martin Luther King was pastor during his time in the city. It proved well worth visiting while I explored Alabama's fascinating civil rights trail.

It was very late at night so I was only able to explore the outside. If you are not familiar with the area and looking for this historic site. I personally didn't see any markers. I was at a traffic heading to take a picture of the capital and thought this building looks out of place. Began to look carefully and realized what significant impact that building held.

This is a great area to walk around with so much history. This is a must stop to see where Dr. Luther King preached and to add to your black history information. It was closed when we were there.
