Sugar Bay is an amazing hotel. We had the most relaxing experience there last week. All the staff are so friendly, helpful and kind. You are looked after like royalty! The all-inclusive aspect is great, it means you never go hungry or thirsty. The cocktails are amazing! The buffet offering is great and the sushi restaurant is fantastic. It's right on a gorgeous beach with turquoise sea and pristine white sand. If you forget anything you can just nip back to your room. The rooms are lovely too, with very comfortable beds. Our teenage son loved the games room too, with vintage PAC-man, air hockey and pool. There is great pool with a swim up bar. If you are thinking about booking this hotel - DO IT, it is the most perfect place to relax and revive.

Absolutely stunning hotel and location. I cannot recommend this place enough. The rooms were very tidy, spacious and had everything you could want. Ample storage space and even an additional sitting area. The facilities in the hotel were first class and the main restaurant " The Reef " has a stunning view of the beach. The good was brilliant, really authentic bajun cooking , especially the fish. The head chef - Hayden was so accommodating and helpful , he brought in halal meat just for me and my wife , so we had chicken wings and lamb steak! The bar staff were were brilliant, and could make any cocktail you can imagine ,including a few specials of their own. If you're coming to Barbados, The Sugar Bay Hotel is the place to stay

A blast, a great all inclusive on the island. Staff was great, live entertainment daily. There are a few restaurants open, the food was good every day. The location on the beach is nice, calm water to swim. Rooms were a little dated, but good size and comfortable. Returned in October for my birthday even better time. Thanks to the staff that always makes the Stay memorable.

I went with my partner for a few days, and we had an absolutely delightful time! Most of the food that we had tasted fresh and absolutely delicious, and the drinks were wonderfully bountiful. The location and resort set-up was also great, with the pool nicely centered in the middle of the complex and the beach and ocean in sight and only a minute's walk away. The lion's share of my praise however goes to the staff. They were always so kind and so helpful no matter what was needed. I hope they are getting paid well, and if they are, it still might be enough considering the high quality serve that they provided. If you are looking for an all-inclusive getaway in Barbados, then I will happily and zealously recommend Sugar Bay. It's everything one could ask for in a pampered tropical getaway.

The reception staff were always helpful and accommodating but it is a shame, the same can't be said about housekeeping. Our room on arrival was roomy, light and airy but we didn't have any water, coffee or hand towels and there was no provision for mosquito prevention (other rooms were provided with it) and we got eaten alive! The daily cleaning of our room was hit and miss, dead mosquitos were still on the side of the basin and surrounding tiles even after 3 days; our table on the veranda was only wiped over a couple of times so we did it ourselves this really disappointed us. Overall, the cleanliness throughout the complex couldn't be faulted, the pool was kept spotless, the bar and waiting staff were great. Your bottled water had to be collected from the reception which was irritating! For an all inclusive hotel, the food was excellent and catered for all tastes. Having said all this, we still had a great time, a lovely, friendly hotel.

Fabulous and relaxing stay in a jewel of Barbados. An absolutely fabulous family resort - 2 pools, a beautiful beach and lagoon perfect for swimming and snorkelling and mucking around! A kids club the kids won’t leave! Lovely food and brilliant staff. Of course we also have the visiting turtles to thank! We will definitely be coming back,

My experience at Sugar Bay hotel was magical for me and my partner. The service was excellent, all the staff was just willing to help or cater to us. They were very polite and very welcoming. The resort was beautiful and keep clean. The food was excellent, tasted so good that i didn’t want to leave. The rooms were great. They also have some nice activities to do. Unfortunately i didn’t get to go to the SPA but i will soon.

I’m taking the time to write this comment cause I wish someone had left a comment like mine and so I could’ve saved my money or stayed somewhere else. This is not a 4 star hotel!! It’s definitely a 2 star hotel, 3 if I’m being generous. If you are checking in at 4pm…there is only pastry available until 6pm…so get something to eat before you check in. After check in, you are left to fend for yourself. There isn’t a lot of information shared about dinner times, restaurants, bars etc. The rooms are just okay, everything in the hotel needs upgrading ASAP. It looks very tired and dated in most areas, the pictures are definitely edited. The TVs are not smart TVs, there isnt even a clock in the room. We were given bath towels and beach towels that’s it, no face towels or no floor towels. In your fridge there is only water, that’s it. If you want a drink you have to go to the bar. There’s no coffee maker just instant coffee and tea in the room. Nothing to eat. The breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet was good. The food at UMI wasn’t good, the pork ribs and rice tasted old, like it was reheated, the chicken tenders had no flavour, tasted like batter. The sushi was really good. The beach team needs some improvement, there is no way water bottles should be left on the sand all day, no one come to ask if you need a drink, if you wave your hand they look at you and look off. This hotel advertises as an all inclusive but it isn’t, walk with extra cash if you want premium/proper liquor. The drinks at the bar are weak and some bartenders don’t make the drinks properly. The wifi works well. This isn’t an ad but you could stay at Seabreeze for 100% better experience for about the same price. Overall, nothing at Sugar Bay screams 4 star hotel…so keep you expectations low. I won’t stay here again even if given a free stay.

Had a great week here celebrating my birthday! I would highly recommend this as an all inclusive getaway on the island. If you’re looking for a relaxing trip, this is a top tier option. Here’s what we loved and what could’ve been better: Pros: Staff were incredibly kind, hard working, and friendly. They went above and beyond to celebrate my birthday (did this for another guest on another day too). The food was amazing for an all inclusive, especially at Umi! Overall the property was clean and well maintained. Housekeeping kept the room immaculate each day. The resort feels small but was never crowded. Close proximity to nice restaurants off the resort (Tapas, Champers). To be mindful of: Queen bed was actually 2 twins pushed together with an awkward line in the middle, needs a proper mattress or better mattress pad. The wifi worked great everywhere on the resort except in our room, the one place you want to use it and never could. If you attract mosquitos, wear pants/long sleeves at the Sizzle restaurant, everyone was getting eaten alive sitting outside despite the staffs best efforts. Dont lose your beach towel, they were unavailable for hours and weren’t in a hurry to grab them from the laundry. Tourists on the island are a bit older than some other destinations, and we found the energy/entertainment to be pretty dead each night. More entertainment overall would have been nice but the all the guests seemed to prefer reading books on the beach.

Above average resort. Please read the fine print as 2 of the 3 restaurants on the property are not included in the all inclusive package. The number of meals included in the package are based on the number of days booked. They need to do something about pigeons in and around the restaurants! It's ridiculous with pigeons on dining tables and even on serving utensils for the buffet.

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful resort. Staff were so friendly and helpful at all times. Food was excellent, especially, Umi and Sizzle restaurants. Buffet restaurant had a very good varied selection and everything was delicious. Great variety of drinks and cocktails. I would certainly go back to this hotel, it offered great value for money.

We loved this place! We spent a week in an oceanside room just steps to the beach. Because it is such a small resort, the beach, pool, and restaurants are all within close proximity. The resort itself is not 5-star luxurious, but it is very clean and comfortable. (However, they will be closed for a month in Sept. 2023 for renovations.) The excellent staff is what really made our stay special. They are friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we were enjoying our stay. The resort has such a chill vibe - the perfect place to relax and enjoy the breeze on the beautiful, pristine beach and grounds! The nightly entertainment was great, but unfortunately it's over at 10 pm each night, so if you're looking for late nightlife, you'll have to go off resort. If you walk along the beach to the left of the resort for about 10 minutes, you will reach the boardwalk where local artwork is displayed and further on there are bars, restaurants, and shops. A short walk from the resort in the other direction is where the racehorses swim each morning. We had a great stay and look forward to returning in the future!

Great staff and people across the hotel and Island. An All Inclusive hotel with a great wide range of alcoholic options. Try the Black Cake Rum Punch. We had room 324 at the top of the stairs and by a lift, but it was lovely and quiet with a balcony and sea views.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sugar Bay, and absolutely cannot fault how welcoming and lovely the staff were, they really made the holiday for us. Service was amazing. The location and beach are absolutely beautiful and good area to visit other restaurants/sights nearby. The only small things I would say was that the room, while spotless and cleaning was excellent, felt a bit dated. Also after breakfast the only coffee place was a self serving machine which broke after a few days of our stay which I understand happens but given that today's guests expect different types of coffee/cold coffee e.t.c it might be nice to refurb that area into more of a beach cafe. Having said this, the food was excellent especially Umi and the Steakhouse, and again cannot recommend the staff highly enough, always up for a chat and super attentive, some of the loveliest people you will meet. Thank you for our holiday!

Staff was great, but everything else was literally just okay. First, it’s WAY overrated & over priced. The property is very small, rooms are dated but clean & the second pool is kind of a joke. My room didn’t have a trash can & I asked, but never got one. There is not an ice machine in the hotel (they have an old school tray in the freezer part of mini fridge) , I know it sounds weird but just something that threw me off. Room was clean but small & there’s no place to put anything down in the bathroom + my sink was outside of the bathroom, it was inconvenient. The place is DEAD all day & there’s absolutely NO FOOD after 9:30pm…so if you want to drink, you’re kinda screwed in terms of soaking up the alcohol at night. There’s minimal entertainment but some live music here & there, but it was decent (very slow/kinda depressing pace music). The “concierge” never appeared, but the front desk folks were helpful. Food was meh except umi which was GOOD. Spa was also GREAT…got a massage & facial, both were awesome. Nice beach view, but overall would not recommend & definitely wouldn’t stay here again.

We chose Sugar Bay as our Honey moon destination, once me and my wife got checked in and settled we got dressed and went down to dinner where were greeted by very friendly staff who made sure we were well taken care of until we left the restaurant, and this was the standard thru out our entire stay at sugar bay, good food plenty drinks and fun times to be had.... the two nights we stayed dinner was paired with Live entertainment, the performers interacted with other guests as they did covers of both local and international music, this set the stage for patrons of different colors and races to come together and party in harmony with each other. I would like to make special mention of staff members Victor, Suzette, Samantha and Kay going the extra mile and making our Honeymoon extra special!!!!!!

We have just come back from Sugar Bay after having an amazing 2 week holiday there. As a family of three ( 2 adults and 1 teenager ), there was something for all of us there. The hotel it’s self is lovely, a very relaxing vibe and has the most perfect location. The beach is stunning and to swim in the sea is very special , clear waters with lots of fish , even a turtle came into the bay for a swim . I would definitely recommend snorkelling there. The food was always fresh and tasty, especially the fish. We loved having lunch at Colin’s bar and grill as it had a really relaxed atmosphere . The main thing that made our holiday so special is the staff . All of the staff are so friendly and helpful from the front desk , waiting staff , maintenance staff and the beach staff . Thank you to all of you . We will definitely stay at Sugar Bay again . Barbados is a beautiful island .

The location, the staff, the convenience of the room positions, the beach…..we’ve never used a beach as much this one. The all inclusive package is ideal for the kids and the adults especially for cocktail experimentation 🍹. A small but very good buffet, two inclusive restaurants that make you feel that you’ve been out. Last but not least….THE STAFF….love them all.

We had a fabulous time at Sugar Bay with our 2.5 year old. First off, the bay is so calm and lovely and the water is the most amazing colour - it's like a post card! The rooms and decor were even better than expected from photos. Kids Club We have a 2.5 year old so the creche was super important to us and we loved it. The women there esp Keisha and Kaya were so nice and fun. Our kid made a bracelet (which they haven't yet taken off), a picture frame and sticker artwork, and did loads of playing. They napped there every day too which was perfect. Sure they also watched some TV but specifically when my kid asked for it or needed to be calmed. We were so impressed. We stayed in the club for half an hour the first time we dropped our kid to chat and get to know the staff which I think that helped our kid adjust too. Snorkeling & Surfing There is good snorkeling in the bay right in front of the hotel - especially if you wait until low tide and then swim along the barrier rocks that shelter the bay. If you go down to Carlisle/Pebble beach (20 mins walk) there is fantastic diving and snorkeling. We also had a lesson with Smiley's surf school (5 minutes walk) & loved it! The local surf is intermediate level so we went to Freights Bay for a more chill time. Watersports team at the hotel was also great - we tried a kayak and saw others on SUPs. Food & Drink The all-inclusive drinks were a revelation. So delicious! Virgin pina colada was outstanding. All the food was great. Top tip for kids: you can ask for food anytime for kids, the staff are super helpful even when restaurants are closed. There is a kids menu you can order from at the Reef Restaurant reception and they can deliver it anytime and anyplace including kids club. I found my kid usually needed to eat before and after the restaurants closed for lunch so this was perfect. The only con I can think of is the entertainment is quite loud for kids trying to go to bed early (we were in an ocean view room). But it ends at 10pm. Oh and do be careful of the sun!! I didn't realise how dehydrated I was getting and ended up needing to see a doctor (who came to the room) & get some iv fluids. Drink loads of water & stay in AC some of the day if you can! The doctor service was outstanding though.

This is our second time in Barbados but first at sugar bay. The first visit we stayed at sandals. I would have been leaving a two star review, however allowing second chances is more important to me. When we arrived at sugar bay we couldn’t wait to get to our room shower and find something to eat. We were greeted at reception by the front of house team who were lovely & then we were shown to our room.when we arrived at our room we were greeted with the over whelming smell of damp and mould. We sat in the room for about 15 minutes and couldn’t take the smell anymore. There were leaves all over the bathroom floor and the toilet did have a few dodgy looking hairs. We went to reception and told them that we couldn’t stay in the room and they advised us to grab something to eat and they’d sort us a new room. We went to the buffet my husband is autistic so he has sensory issues with touch, smell and taste . He walked in the buffet and walked straight back out again. There was hardly any food left and what was left he would never have eaten. We asked if there was anywhere else open to eat & the answer was no. We were shown to our new room which was much nicer and didn’t smell and hit the sack for the night. The next morning we went to give the breakfast buffet a try. This was more successful with a range of hot and cold food we both managed to eat here and throughly enjoyed the breakfast Every morning . The sea view whist eating was just beautiful And the staff were lovely & friendly. After a more positive start to the morning we went to the bar to get a drink. Helen served us. We asked for cocktail recommendations but she very abruptly told us she makes them & doesn’t drink them & to just tell her what we want. I have terrible anxiety & I didn’t want to go back to the bar again as she was just so stern and abrupt. Almost like we were a huge inconvenience for asking her opinion. Iv never been anywhere l, where bar staff do not recommend a cocktail. Unfortunately lunch & dinner time my husband couldn’t eat again so I messaged Morgan who it’s the manager and asked him if there was anywhere local we could go for pizza. Morgan advised he would get the chef to make pizza every night for us, we just needed to let him know what time we wanted it. We then also discovered Colin’s bar for lunch . They serve burgers and fries so my husband was finally in food heaven . We chose sugar bay over sandals as we wanted to experience a traditional hotel but still have some home comforts when it came to food. Tyrese is the king of cocktails, he came over whilst I was on the beach and asked if I wanted to try a cocktail. After my disaster with Helen I was excited to be offered a huge choice of drinks. Tyrese is lovely and so friendly, he always brightened our day. I managed to find something to eat every evening at the buffet and my husband had pizza. We dined at the steak house twice which was also lovely. When we first arrived we were devastated and just wanted to change hotels but after 24 hours the staff had made us change our minds. Nothing was to much trouble and they wanted us to be happy with our stay. The beach and the views are breath taking. I did avoid Helen at all Costs . I am all for second chances but she spiked my anxiety with how abrupt she was so I did unfortunately avoid her at all cost. So the all important question … would we stay again YES, would we choose this hotel over sandals YES. - [ ] The reason that I didn’t give this a 5 star review . - I just think they need a few little touches such as the fridge stocked with some soft drinks and water, a snack bar that’s available 24-7 or until at least midnight. Doesn’t have to have anything hot but even if there was just some pastries or light nibbles . You can’t get any food here past 9:30 and I just think a late night snack bar would be a nice touch. Entertainment was good on some nights but ends at 10pm and there isn’t much else to do. So other than the issues that we have in our first 24 hours ended up throughly enjoying the hotel .

Went on our wedding and stayed here. Everything was wonderful! The scenery was beautiful and the staff was great. We forgot a charger and even received an e-mail the same day for it to be mailed. The drinks and service was great

Very nice hotel, right on the beach. Staff friendly & pleasant. Food very good, but bit repetitive, over a week, so great there were other restaurants(steak & Japanese) Nice room, but sliding door to bathroom/toilet, loss of privacy. Bed very comfortable & pillows SO soft. No limit to cocktails, but better if you like rum. Would visit again, but not in November

The service at this hotel is terrible. Our suite smelled of mould and was essentially next to a dumping area at the end of the hotel. Completely unsuitable vs what we paid. The staff were unhelpful and condescending and the General Manager refused to speak to me despite being on site. After a very stressful 24 hours I eventually managed to get us moved to a more suitable which felt like a safe place to have my 3 year old. Kids Club is terrible. I left my son for 20 minutes as he wanted to try it out and when I went back they’d just put videos on for him to watch. Staff were rude and didn’t seem to care for the children at all. I would not recommend it Evening entertainment was incredibly loud and late. Not a family resort at all I would not recommend this resort to anyone

I’m thrilled we chose to stay at Sugar Bay Barbados! Originally we considered some of the other commercial style resorts, but this place is small enough you fell prioritized and there is a short of charm. We were at first leery about the all-inclusive idea, but it was fantastic. Plenty of options for food. Cocktails are delicious! Service was absolutely wonderful. People like David, Jade, Shane, Tyrese, Trisha, and Joshua we will surely never forget. The rooms were well maintained and housekeeping was thorough everyday. The beach is well groomed with new chairs, and same with the pool. The spa services are a wide variety and fairly priced—they do a good job. My only complaint the entire course of our stay was the hunt for beach towels. Definitely will be back!!

This is a fabulous hotel with great service. We stayed there for 5 days and throughly enjoyed it. Great food and drink, amazing staffs, great location, plenty of complementary activities and a very relaxing environment. Will definitely come back in future. Thanks to Sugar bay team for making our stay great.

Beautiful resort. The staff, location, service, food - perfect! The only remark I have, but I believe this is being sorted this year during refurbishment, is the black mould in the bathrooms of the hotel rooms. Fair to say that due to the climate it is very humid and probably hard to prevent as the guests will need to do their part while staying in the rooms too I suppose. All in all, I would visit again anytime!

We booked the hotel on a recommendation of a friend who has travelled extensively. We were not disappointed. Location on the beach is very good. Food is excellent. Rooms are superior and recently renovated. Staff are very courteous and professional. Clientele is predominantly British though other countries are represented. Prices are 1/3 of the highest level hotels like Fairmont. Weather is 29⁰F on average in March and always a nice breeze. Nothing disappointed us. Had a great time.

What a fantastic hotel in a fantastic place. We came here for our wedding anniversary and booked an ocean view room. Wow! Everything is better than we expected. The rooms, the food, the staff, the beach the location are all amazing. Anyone who says anything negative about the hotel is just nit-picking. Relax, enjoy and soak it up.

Overall I like the hotel. If I could have given it four and a half stars I would have done that. There are things that the hotel does very well. * The beach is great and the service from the umbrella boys is fantastic. * The food in all the restaurants is good but particularly good at Collin's bar on the beach. * The rooms are comfortable and where we stayed away from the beach it was quiet. * The hotel is well located and you could walk into Bridgetown if you wanted. It's also easy to walk along the beachfront to other beaches and it is close to where the racehorse bathe in the morning * The staff are in general very very friendly and willing to help. They are the people that make this hotel. There are some things that could be improved. * On the first day that we arrived we just couldn't get clean towels in exchange for hotel cards as they had run out. How a hotel can run out of towels is beyond me? * If you eat outside, you are at the mercy of the pigeons. This is the only place where I've seen this problem and so there must be a solution to it. It is pretty unhygienic and annoying. * The drinks that come out of the bar are tasty. However, for some of the fruit tray based drinks, I would have thought they would be using fresh fruits rather then syrups this seems to be the cheapest way to make the drinks. * There are things that I read in reviews such as shuttle buses to Oistin's fish fry that are just not well publisized in the hotel. There should be more information about these kind of things Overall we had a fantastic holiday. The hotel is great. I'd love to return to Barbados, but perhaps not on an all-inclusive basis so that we got out and saw more of the island.

Spent the day here for my birthday. I could not have been made to feel more welcome and special! Big shout out to Andrea and Mario at the pool bar. Too many other names to mention. Food, drinks everything was fantastic. Breakfast was fab especially the omelettes, lunch had a great choice. You are made to feel welcome from the minute you walk through the door. Pool swim up bar great too. Highly recommend Sugar Bay.

Sugar Bay was absolutely fantastic! All the staff members were incredible and really make this place what it is. The rooms were slightly dated for the average American traveller (as an American I know we have unreasonable and unrealistic standards with that) but we loved our room and our rooms location. It is a smaller more intimate resort, you really get to interact with other guests and the staff remembers you. Quite an opposite experience of the giant new mega-resorts in Mexico where it tends to be pay to play. There were plenty of beach chairs and pool loungers throughout the day and no real stupid towel games. It is centrally located so you can taxi or bus easily to other places and the island is just pretty amazing in itself. Sugar Bay is worth the costs, we will definitely be back.

This is the first time we have been to the Caribbean and WOW. This place is amazing. Whilst checking in they were already offering us a drink! Because we had arrived late in the evening they had made up a plate of sandwiches and fruit to take up to the room. Amazing start and the outstanding service has continued. I would highly recommend and definitely would want to come back!

My adult family had a fantastic stay! The front desk was extremely accommodating after a booking mishap and the staff, especially the staff at the Reef was extremely attentive and friendly. This resort is beautifully designed and has a very nice aesthetic from the lobby to the rooms to the buffet furniture, which is something I haven’t seen at other hot destination resorts. It is located close to all attractions— our favourite was walking along the Boardwalk & visiting the horses in the morning at Peebles beach. Overall, fantastic stay!
