Historic site close to many others. Nice to walk around in afternoon when it’s not as crowded.

On the pedestrian bridge that takes you into Bridgetown. Good vantage point to take some photos. The tourist shops here are best to come to.

Picture Perfect Independence Arch The Independence Arch is located at the southern end of the Chamberlain Bridge in Bridgetown, the capital city of Barbados. The Independence Arch was build in 1987 to commemorate Barbados' 21st anniversary of Independence. Until Independence was achieved on November 30th 1966, Barbados was a British colony. The arch depicts several aspects of Barbados heritage and culture. The pillars showcase two important national symbols - the flying fish and pelican - along with the Pride of Barbados flower. Across the top of the arch is the islands Coat of Arms bearing the national motto 'Pride and Industry'. At the base of the arch is the National Pledge. During November (the month of celebration of Barbados' independence) the Independence Arch is lighted in the national colours of Blue and Gold.

You see this and can get a quick appreciation of how the Bajans view their history and heritage. It's still in good shape and the area is very clean (it extends along the dockside). Makes for a very scenic stroll and a mellow way to view Bridgetown - the main shopping district and bus terminal is a stone's throw away.

Barbados is nice. friendly people, quality tourism service level and easy to connect with the local public. The bridge is actually the main center spot in town. a lovely scenic location. And a good spot to mention for a place to meet your travel partners. Like "see you on the bridge in 2 hours" cant miss!!

Another great piece of Barbados' history. Perched the draw bridge of the picturesque Bridgetown Careenage and just steps away from many of the island's leading department stores. Great photo taking opportunity.

Amazing experience standing under the independence arch and seeing the Chamberlain bridge lifted to allow a large vessel cross to the other side of the wharf.
