Your standard museum telling the standard history with a spare exhibition. It's not very expensive to get in so nothing to suffer from if you don't enjoy the experience to its best

Went there on a school trip with kids school/class. Worth a visit to further learn about Barbados and Caribbean history. Great Kids section that is educational and very interactive.

Well maintained museum with plenty of history. The unguided visit costs BBD 20, worth visiting.

A really good museum. There were contributions from all areas of Barbadian culture. Definitely worth the visit. Location is convenient and easily accessible by taking the public bus for only $3.50 in local currency. Also, this museum is walking distance to the George Washington home. Gift shop features many locally made products at a better price than the duty free shop in Bridgetown.

I left with more questions than answers,I think they should have a volunteer, like someone who has lived in Barbados for more than 50 years and remembers all the changes and how things came to be in their possession, where and how things were found or donated to the museum, there is nothing about Bussa' Rebellion or the yacht club?? How did they take back their home, and why did it take so long to get the help they needed, what are they working towards now, and what are the goals of the people now. Are there any fundraising groups? Are men chosen for military service or forced? Are women in service there?

This museum was a good place to visit to to see some of the history of Barbados. I was disappointed that my wife and I had to pay $10 a piece to visit a museum that we couldn't even take pictures of anything. Also, there were parts of the museum that were hotter than it was outside. The lady who worked the front desk was very nice and helpful.

Beautiful trip through Barbados history. Went on a quiet weekday and got to spend as much time as we wanted going through the exhibits unhurried.

If you're looking for a inexpensive way to experience Barbadian history and culture this is a great way. You can walk through the museums 7 galleries on your own or have a guided tour. It's also a beautiful spot to host weddings or other special events.

A good place to find out the history of Barbados. It’s unique and interesting. A lot hot though as AC is in limited galleries. I just went outside between galleries to get a nice breeze. Bought some great local books and crafts.

This was the best museum we visited in the Caribbean. It was very extensive and they had a lot of different artifacts. Still only took an hour or two to go through, but you could spend longer if you wanted to read all the signs. FYI that only the gift shop has AC. Also, no photos allowed inside the buildings.

The visitor center cash register person was a great person to chat with upon entry. She gave tips and suggestions to view it. She even helped me make a buying decision based on preferences with two items that I torn between getting. We enjoyed seeing and learning the history of Barbados.

We decided to look around this museum whilst visiting Bridgetown. Unfortunately the some areas of the museum were closed, unsure if it was due to COVID or if they are changing things about. The parts we did get to look around were filled with facts, so you can certainly learn about the history of Barbados. It would be nice if there was a little Café or something similar to get a drink & bite to eat.

The Barbados Museum The Barbados Museum, located at the Garrison, is housed in the former British Military Prison. The prison, whose upper section was built in 1817 and lower section in 1853, became the headquarters of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society in 1930.

A fascinating museum that's a must visit for anyone interested in the history of the island of Barbados. Great gift shop! No cafe.

Very cool museum that has a lot of interesting information about Barbados. There were several areas in the museum that covered the geographical information of the island, the history of it, as well as a very good Bajan cultural section. There was also a wonderful art exhibit, and a very fun interactive section for kids. It's a short walk from Carlisle Bay, and on the same road as the George Washington house and garrison horse track.

A very informative museum, charting the history of Barbados, including a few things on prehistoric cultures. The staff are very friendly and helpful. And there was a beautiful little tabby cat in residence on my visit. There was no queue when I visited.

A great introduction to the history of Barbados. From the earliest time, through colonial slavery, to the present day. Also harking back to the African culture that influenced Bajan culture. Well worth a visit to find out more about the island. The gift shop has an array of interesting books

I only visited the bookshop for a book launch, but I plan to return as some interesting books caught my eyes. Rated for the book launch, it hosted, and the hospitality of the staff, not the general facility.

An amazing collection, essential to understand the history of Barbados. Under renovation with some galleries already finished including the children's learning lab which is state-of-art for 2022. Well worth a visit.

One of the must visit points on the island. Showecases the diversification of the inhabitants.

Well done, but could use some TLC. The exhibits, while informative, feel quite dated. The lack of AC let's the heat feel oppressive. Staff are exceedingly friendly.

  • 5/5 Omar K. 2 years ago on Google
Always an amazing experience. The historical and cultural artifacts in the exhibits are unparalleled. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. I really can't stress on how important the museum is. Everyone should go at least once. Whether you are a local or a tourist, just go and enjoy

The Barbados Museum and Historical Society, the Home of Barbadian Heritage and Culture, is located just outside Bridgetown and its Historic Garrison. The latter is a World Heritage Site and worth a visit in itself. The Museum is the foremost authority on the historical record of Barbados, but also an educator and a champion of the cultural heritage of our island. While there was a group of school children visiting. We opted to have a guided tour which was well worth the price. $30 Barbados. Opening hours Mondays – Saturdays: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Well worth a visit and, the Jairus Brewster Children’s Gallery is not to be missed! Enjoy

Nice museum. Lots of history packed in. My favorite part was the interactive portion. It is meant for kids but hey, learning to play the steel pan and preform heart surgery… A TON OF FUN

Great history and natural museum of Barbados. Definitely recommend stopping by to better understand the country and its history. Really friendly staff, cool interactive exhibits, and on beautiful grounds.

Educational family oriented place to visit to learn about Barbados and the Caribbean, slave and military histories. They also had an interactive children's section...I think I enjoyed this section more than my 13 yro. son lol. One big downside was the strong scent of urine outside the buildings as you go from one building to the other...very distasteful. Otherwise, it was a nice visit.

Wasn't here for the historical education. I went for an even. Beautiful venue, however, the rain fell and it got muddy (lost a star for the mud). Too few bathrooms for the amount of people there (2 stalls for each male and female bathroom) and there was a line for the entire event (lost another star for this). Sorry for those who had an urgent calling. But other than that, the event was nice, convenient parking (really needs to be paved though) and the surrounding are lovely despite the mud. On a sunny day it would've been fine.
