The house and gardens are well preserved and scenic, however we were shocked that there was NO MENTION OF SLAVERY during the official tour, no knowledge of how many slaves lived and worked at the plantation and no meaningful depiction whatsoever of any artefacts or quarters used by slaves throughout the museum. Despite extensive restorations in 2018 and annual renovations since then, the house only showcases history and information about the lives of the former plantation owners and their families in any level of detail. The 1816 slave rebellion which caused extensive damage to the house was not mentioned at all although a later fire in 1995 was mentioned as a cause for some restorations. Also worth noting that unlike some other cultural and historical sites that have made visits free for locals, Barbadians still have to pay to visit albeit at a reduced rate. One of our party raised these issues with the manager and it appears these are regular complaints from visitors however the only response is that the current owners have recently asked someone to look into this “aspect” of the history of the house and more evidence needs to be collected. I am only giving one star because our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable and most of the staff very kind and helpful.

It's a blessing this place has been preserved and used as a repository for so many historical and cultural artifacts. Next step is for the young creatives and social historians on this island to add narrative! How many amazing stories are there for the telling to bring these spaces and exhibits to life?! What an amazing opportunity for an archivist's research project? And the gardens too - quite amazing and the whole team can be proud of their work to promote beautiful Barbados! Good luck with all this - post pandemic!

Interesting house and garden. Set up as it would have been back when it was a Sugar Plantation. Tour guide told us some of the history then we were free to wonder around the house. Followed by lunch in the garden. All well organised and obviously well used to large tour groups.

Very nice and historical location. We learned a lot about the early days of a sugar plantation. That rum was invited in the Barbados. We started the tour with a rum mixing leason and got to sample two mixes and then we got to sample some food, fish cakes and chicken... It was great. Then we toured the plantation house, lots of pictures.

I have been going to Barbados for 46 years but had never visited Sunbury. It is a real gem - highly recommended. The main house was restored in 2018 but also receive a spruce up before re-opening this week post-covid. We appreciated the provided guided tour. So many nice period furniture and decoration.

Experience the charm of Barbados at a historic building steeped in culture. Impeccably maintained, surrounded by lush greenery. Savored a delectable chicken wrap and refreshing rum punch. A must-visit for a memorable taste of history and warm hospitality.

There are lots of old artifacts here including clothes and cameras. There's furniture and pictures, too. It gives a good impression of what it might have been like living here, nearly a century ago.

Wonderful place to visit. 30bbs entry per adult and a free drink at the bar. Very interesting to look around. We went Sunday afternoon and were the only people there. It was very tranquil!

Well presented and preserved piece of Barbados history. Really enjoyed the tour and Julie our tour guide was super lovely. The house is beautiful and the grounds are really well kept. The free rum punch at the end in the bar gave us an opportunity to speak to Julie on a personal level and learn about her life on the island and her travels abroad. Can’t rate this experience enough!

A beautiful house. It’s gives a good insight into how wealthy people lived, in Barbados 100s of years ago. You pay at the door and a guide takes you around. Don’t expect an in-depth history of the life of a plantation but the information about the house and its furniture is interesting. It’s a beautiful house with lovely furniture. The complimentary rum or fruit punch at the end was a nice treat.

Beautiful house but bizarrely almost no reference to the slaves who created the wealth. I've noticed this is common in the Caribbean. "Cancel Culture" obviously has a long history.

Good tour. Need to spend some time in the house as a number of rooms to see which are full of antiquities. Refreshment bar and well stocked gift shop. Nice gardens.

We tried to find out info before our visit, but the web page was not too clear. We therefore turned up unbooked and were able to join a tour immediately. The tour was interesting, and the guide was informative. Although we were able to go round on our own again after the tour, the tour itself was rushed as a coach party arrived just as we were starting. You are served a rum punch or fruit punch at the end,but please be aware that since Covid they no longer cater meals from their own kitchen and only prebooked cruise ship tours are able to eat in the restaurant.

Not a review of the tour etc. but rather of the location as a venue. I have shot many weddings here but not recently until this past weekend. I have to give them props a ton of work has been done and as a photographer really appreciate multiple areas great for portraits. Top job team.

We drove to the plantation this morning having seen on the site it was open. However, when we arrived, it was closed with no signs saying why. You can do better. Very disappointed! Update your site if you are closed. There is no excuse.

Beautifully restored house, and lovely grounds, well worth a visit. Friendly and helpful staff, brilliant tour guide. We turned up without booking and started a personal tour straight away. $30 BBDS entry and included a free drink. Part of Barbados National Trust. Very quiet and peaceful.

The house, gardens and tour were amazing. Perhaps a video on information of the workers health and conditions would have balanced the wealth and status of the owner's family. The rum punch was nice, but as a vegetarian, my promised light lunch was missing.

We had a wonderful to this house today. Our guide today, Kianna was knowledgeable and so friendly. She went above and beyond giving us information on the culinary flare of Barbados that was a must try during our visit. Thanks also to Dante for being an impromptu photographer. Would recommend a visit.
