We visited here today whilst we had a hire car. It was easy to find with Google maps and also well signposted. The big shout out goes to the young man who greeted us and explains about the gardens. Very polite and professional and knowledgeable. I'm only sorry I didn't get his name. The gardens are beautiful with so many plants you could spend hours here. There are washrooms 🚻 and also a small garden kitchen for refreshments. Plenty of parking too. We are National Trust members back in England and as such we got a 50% reduction in entry fee too

Such a beautiful place! Giant trees, cool plants, cute monkeys, the garden smells so fruity…I can come here everyday. One ticket is valid for 30 days, so just like the staff told me I should come here at the beginning of my trip, so I can come back as many time as I want.

Beautiful lush gardens. Sharon who manages the gardens gave us an great explanation about the history and background. She and the team have done a lot to make the gardens freely accessible to locals and also highlight the use of many of the plants in Bajan and Caribbean culture eg through the ethnobotanical garden. The meal we had at the Eastside Kitchen was somewhat unexpectedly the best we have had on our trip to Barbados so far. Local food freshly and simply cooked in a peaceful setting.

Peaceful and well maintained botantical gardens with a wide selection of tropical plants and trees. Good self guided tour where you follow directions and read about various marker points (although we did get a bit lost as some arrows were a bit unclear.) Had a brief overview about the history of the gardens which was interesting. Tickets are valid for more than one visit. Recommended if you are in the area

Response to Andromeda: I might have revisited your beautiful gardens if you had graciously accepted that my opinion (and that's all it is) was based on my experiences at both gardens and not an attempt to compare the two based on their history or purpose. I'm sure you will have many more appreciative visitors but it won't include me. Beautiful gardens and an interesting history but not quite the variety, experience and vibe you get from Hunte's Gardens. The staff were very helpful and the experience was good but not great.

I once served in a British warship HMS Andromeda, so was intrigued to visit these gardens and discover the origin of the name. I was really very impressed, from the welcome and introduction, to the very informative and well designed app to guide you round the plants (plus WiFi in the gardens) - altogether a great idea. A really good atmosphere in the gardens, the old historic paths leading you to some amazing vistas of most impressive plants and trees. And finally the East Side cafe for excellent tea and cake, and lots of other good things to eat and drink. I can't recommend this amazing place, or the staff, highly enough.

Took a day trip to Bathsheba and decided to check out these gardens. It was well worth the walk up the hill! My Fiance and I spent almost 2 hours walking around these gardens. Had the whole place to ourselves too, the grounds are huge and so much to look at. Saw an amazing amount of lizards, butterflies, and some hummingbirds too! After the garden we got lunch at the small restaurant there. It was one of the best meals we had on our trip! Everything is handmade there on site. Very friendly staff and great service. The food and drinks were incredible. This place is a definite must see if you are on this side of the island!

This is a wonderful garden, which I highly recommend you visit. Sharon works tirelessly to maintain Iris Bannochie’s personal garden and it is a real pleasure to walk around. We spent three hours there as there was so much to see, and the online guide to the plants was very helpful. We were able to get there easily by no.6 bus from Bridgetown. Really enjoyed our visit.

Very nice garden with a nice walking tour of the gardens. It’s self guided with the app you can download as you enter. Free WIFI as well to get the app. You can either read the information, or have the app play the audio. Bring earphones if you plan to listen. Nice new section of local plants and their uses. Nice way to spend an afternoon. Oh! The cafe is quite nice as well. Portions are not huge but tasty. Try the coconut punch! We spent about 2 hours on the tour here.

Andromeda Botanic Gardens at Bathsheba, Barbados, was created in 1954 by horticulturalist Iris Bannochie. In the 1970s, 90 percent of the ornamental plants introduced to Barbados arrived via Andromeda. In 1536 Portuguese explorer Pedro Campos named Barbados for the huge aerial roots resembling beards of the local fig trees. One example is at the Botanic Gardens. Giant crinum (Crinum asiaticum), a member of the amaryllis family, also grows in the Andromeda Botanic Gardens. The young bulbs that will drop, root and develop into plants. Torch ginger seen in the gardens is often used in floral arrangements. The calabash tree is among over 100 species of trees here. In fact, over 500 plant species can be seen at the Andromeda Botanic Gardens.

Fabulous gardens to walk around. Built for the love of it, not purely for financial gain. Take your (UK) National Trust card for 50 percent discount. Follow the paths to see all the fully labelled plants and trees. Could spend hours here. Lovely cafe, too. Well worth a visit!

Cool place lots of plant variety they have an app you download to see the plant details as you move along. My favourite part about it is the way you’re allowed to move around and touch the fruits, normally places bar things off but here it is not restricted and however be warned! You can get lost easily!

We visited the gardens and it's a great little place. A beautifully laid out garden with some amazing plants, monkeys and even turtles. We never saw any turtles but we saw plenty of monkeys. The large butterflies were pretty cool too. There isn't much for the young so bare that in mind. At the end there's a great little shop to quench your thirst or hunger. Believe me it does get pretty humid here. I was grateful for the homemade lemonade.

The perfect morning outing! We came here and spent about an hour and a half walking around the garden. I would recommend downloading the app beforehand (available on the website) which tells you all about each of the plants. So many beautiful flowers to see.

We got off the bus and went here on a whim and I am delighted we did. The vegetation is beautiful and Sharon is truly passionate about her project. We almost left without seeing the butterflies and she went out of our way to show us around. We loved the beautiful assortment of plant life, the butterflies, and also Sharon’s commitment to community outreach. Locals can get in for free and your entry fee is good for several weeks. They’re also putting in an accessible area for special-needs children. So happy we stumbled across this little gem and hope I can come back and see future developments!

An amazing welcome to this garden by the lady at the front. Almost felt like a small forest getaway into a mystical world.

Absolutely amazing, tranquil & lush gardens. Every corner you round has a new spectacular view. Loads of interesting facts and tidbits along the route. Well worth a visit if you want to escape the everyday hustle and bustle. The many benches provide excellent resting spots where you can just take in the views. Can easily spend 2 hours there.

Loved the cafe here. The food was delicious and the owner of the restaurant was super friendly and welcoming. Loved learning about the backstory of the gardens and exploring it. It's a peaceful spot and nice place to go for a walk.

Great outdoor activity, beautiful, manicured trail. Only request is to have a discreet waste disposal on the trail.

What a place <3 Go for a glass of the homemade Ginger and Turmeric juice, if nothing else! Hi Anna-Lisa - you were kind to us, warmly welcoming me and my family - telling us passionately about the garden and its creator, Iris. I promised I would leave a review, and here it is. I hope many, many more people come to know and support this wonderful place. Here's what I loved about Andromeda: * Very well maintained - a lot of effort clearly goes into the upkeep and care of this beautifully-laid out garden (and its various facilities). * It feels like you're being allowed access into someone's personal, magical space. The passion for a project started years ago is clearly felt years later. * The sheer variety of planted species! The massive Barbadian Ficus has to be seen to be believed. * I LOVE that Andromeda is a Barbadian woman's vision - a self-taught scientist and horticulturalist (award winning). That the garden was created as a family space. * The place lifted my spirits. I am the mum of a boisterous 4yo which means I was mostly dragged around this garden, lol, but let me tell you - I could have stayed All Day. Meditating, soaking up the peace, appreciating the humming birds, the massive jackfruit resting pregnant against their supporting trunks. #wellbeing * The artisanal shop - supporting local artists and producers. * Digital access to the garden's map and tour was a nice touch (QR code) * At the end of a peaceful and inspiring walk in one of the loveliest gardens in the world (in my opinion), we ordered the Ginger and Turmeric juice made fresh with ingredients from the garden. Then another, and another because one just wasn't enough :-D My family drained them. SOOOO TASTY. I will be back. Oh, and Anna Lisa kindly recommended the most fabulous local restaurant - so out of the way that you would never know it was there unless told: The Bay Lounge. Stunning views of Bathsheba Bay and oh my the fresh food at very competitive prices. What a glorious part of the world Barbados is <3

Beautiful garden. We spent 2 1/2 hours here and could have spent more. Andromeda Gardens should be very high on a must see list.

Andromeda Botanic Gardens was an absolutely wonderful way to spend and afternoon. From the beautiful walk through the gardens, with plaques and an app describing the flora, to the amazing history behind the gardens. Speaking to the team behind these gardens was delightful and finishing it off sitting having a ginger, turmeric lemonade on the deck was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Well worth the visit.

The garden is BEAUTIFUL. It was a lot bigger than I first anticipated, so I didn't leave myself the greatest amount of time to go around it. Would recommend at least 2 hours to explore every nook and cranny - there really is so much to see. The layout is wonderful, it really feels like you are lost in a little bit of paradise, but you're never actually lost and the direction of the garden is obvious. I did not go to the bar attached to the garden but from what I could see looking in it looked very nice, and the shop attached to the garden was also very nice with some interesting things to buy.

Lovely visit to Andromeda Gardens yesterday. My sister, cousin and a friend spent a few hours exploring the gardens and being totally amazed by the plants and trees. Wow! As bajans, we often do not find time to visit "tourist attractions" but we should visit and enjoy the gifts of our beautiful island. Andromeda is more than a tourist attraction, you can clearly see the great effort of the Bannochie family to create this beautiful garden. A peaceful lovely place where you can either spend hours roaming and enjoying the beautiful greenery and vibrant plants or if you wish, just sit on one of the conveniently placed benches and commune with nature. The legacy and vision of Iris Bannochie lives on. A true labour of love.

What a wonderful place! The app is the best I have ever experienced of its type. It feels like a private tour. It was full of information that was interesting to my husband (a horticulturist) and myself (a lay person interested in plants). Even our six year old son loved listening to the little bits of information about the different trees, flowers, and plants. We all learned a lot and had a fantastic time.
