A warning to everyone; DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL unless course you are prepared to die without dignity! The hospital deserves NO stars. The care, service, equipment, incompetent staff, lack of availability of basic medication including antibiotics, diagnostic testing , and availability of specialist ensure the care provided( if you can call it that); is non existent. Not to mention when you bring concerns forward great care is taken to cover up their mistakes, mistakes such of failure to provide basic care, meet basic needs, or to treat . My mother entered this hospital without an infection and was given an infection in the hospital. The hospital failed to assess or even treat the infection. There was no hope of survival as they gave her a blood infection and then did not treat it, it was certain death. The hospital staff also did there best to block her transfer off the island to another hospital that could have saved her life including lying to the family that she was in stable condition? My mother got sick while on vacation in Barbados and was murdered in this hospital, took only 6 days to kill her. SHUT THIS HOSPITAl DOWN, TERMINATE MANAGEMENT and all employees. Build a new hospital with effective well trained management who will be accountable for the safe care of all patients who enter the hospital and hire only well trained skilled staff. Keep the hospital clean and ensure surfaces and equipment are cleaned or sterilized as required. the hospital is dirty!!! I see from reading all reviews the trend of killing people continues and yet NOTHING IS DONE. BE WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is Barbados' largest medical facility, and a training ground for university students on internship. Despite much public criticism, I've had a number of positive experiences there. Although I've personally had the unpleasant fiasco of an overnight wait in the Accident and Emergency Department, I've also had four incidences of close family members being given the best of care. After a lapse of a few years, this recent visit was a big surprise to me. New modern hospital beds, as well as updated monitoring equipment were in evidence. Nurses on the ward were pleasant and accommodating, and visiting hours are now much more family friendly than they were some years ago.

My husband whilst a tourist on the island suffered a suspected stroke and was left for 12 hours without any attention. He subsequently died and the news was broken to me whilst alone in a hotel room . He was left on a ward bed whilst I was allowed to briefly say goodbye to him. I was met with complete indifference & treated appallingly. This should not happen in a civilised country. I wish I could give the hospital no stars.

My father experienced a medical emergency while on vacation and he was transferred here from an urgent care. Being a healthcare professional myself, I was shocked that this is the type of care people experience in Barbados. This was an emergency room but nothing seem emergent to the staff. My father came into the ER minimally responsive, slurred speech and unable to move his limbs. All of these symptoms are associated with a neurological issue and TIME is your friend. But 16hrs later in this ER and he didnt even have a physician assigned to him. The most they did was vital signs, not one neuro exam, no physical assessment, no swallow evaluation, NOTHING. I myself had to request water and do the swallow eval myself. The staff is rude and heartless, the most compassionate person i met was a young guy doing housekeeping. The doctor at the desk had the nerve to tell me "do you know people been here 3 days before him and havent been seen yet". Thats disgusting and actually very embarassing to disclose to anyone. I see now why theres so many stories of people going to Queen Elizabeth and dying before getting helped in that same emergency room. All the money that country receives for festivals and events, they need to invest some in this terrible healthcare system.

Wednesday I had a tonsillectomy at this hospital. The fact I am unharmed is truly a blessing. I woke up from surgery in a boiling hot room in severe pain. I immediately began to cry as the pain from my throat was more than I could bare. One of the nurses began to scold me and complain that I was too old to cry and started to mock me. I cried silently for quite some time and then later they gave me some pain meds and took me to my room. From there the situation only got worse. An incredibly unkind older nurse came in and started speaking to me, directly ignoring my husband who kept trying to speak on my behalf. It had not even been 2 hours since I awoken and I was in immense pain. Also, essentially EVERY medical journal I had read prior to surgery recommended I not try to speak if it hurts to do so after this surgery. I reported her to a different nurse and did not see her again after. I was brought a lunch of rice and bone in chicken, two things I was not supposed to eat. There was a small cup of soup so I drank that. Dinner was bread and bone in chicken, again things I could not eat. I tried to eat the bread which caused so much pain I nearly started crying again. Later in the evening a kind nurse was able to call a friend to bring me soup from outside the hospital as at this point I was incredibly hungry and was told I could not have pain meds without food. In essence I went the entire first day without food because the hospital kitchen was not prepared to serve someone who had had throat surgery. Also, they kept skipping and pushing back when I would receive pain meds, so I spent the majority of the first day in immense pain, being regularly mocked by nursing staff for apparently not handling throat surgery and medical neglect better. My doctor did not check in on me until the following morning, where he confirmed I should be eating a liquid diet. I pointed out that they had not served me any of the foods he and professionals online recommended I eat. He simply said he would speak to them about it, handed me my prescription and I did not see him again for the rest of my stay. Breakfast was bread with oranges and deli meat, again food that I could not eat. I do not say this just because of the pain but quite literally every medical journal and the doctor himself did not recommend anything but liquid foods this early, he even made sure to confirm I had ensure at home or would be buying some. I was not supposed to eat ANYTHING with bones or too solid for almost 2 weeks. I forced the food down as they made it clear they would not release me until I ate some of it. Also, after many people messing with it the iv stopped working and started filling up my hand with liquid til it hurt. It took me 2 hours to get someone to remove it after a giant lump had formed. There is still a lump of fluid in my hand 2 days later. I cannot imagine bringing someone I care about to this hospital. I will be looking into reporting this hospital as they have no right to mock people, especially straight out of surgery and to neglect their care by literally serving them food that could damage the area of operation and neglecting to give me pain medication in a timely manner. The bedside manner and quality of care offered here is atrocious and honestly medically negligent. I could have taken better care of myself at home than whatever it is they were trying to do there. Of all the nurses I saw, 2 showed me any kindness. Thank you Nadiya and Anastasia.

Nurses on ward A5 were extremely nice and despite the circumstances they made my stay very comfortable and enjoyable. They each check in on me regularly to make sure I was doing okay and any tasks they had to execute on me were well done and with gentleness and care! All the doctors who came to me as well were very nice as well! I have no complaints!

This by far is the worst hospital I've ever been to in my entire life. Poor staffing. Lazy nurses who just walk around the ER and do little to nothing. Chat more in the hallway then taking care of Patients who are just lying on the floor. No bed sheets , no medicine and old thermometers that they put under your armpit. If You get sick you better get on a flight and head home because you're not going to be taken care of here that's for sure. You would think that all the monies coming in from tourism they would have an adequate hospital. This is not the one.

One of the worst experiences I've had. Waited for almost 7 hours and then when I asked when I would be seen the lady said you're next but at that point I was just fed up and did not eat/drink all day so I just left. Absolutely unacceptable that a patient comes in through an ambulance in the ER and still does not get seen 7 hours later.. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ so what's the point of ER??

This hospital doesn't even deserve 1 star. Something needs to be done to make this a better hospital. It's so sad reading these reviews. The nurses need better training. They are so rude. Maybe there are some nice nurses but for the rude and lazy ones, you know who you are. Everyone is human and one day if their put in a situation where they end up in hospital they need to get the same rude treatment then maybe they will understand. Omg it boils my blood to read how patients are being treated honestly. Come on life is short you're all getting paid so wake up and treat patients with respect. Remember they are PATIENTS, SICK PATIENTS.

If I could give them 0 stars I would. The organization itself and the workers at the front desk or β€œhelp” desk are horrid. The women there are rude for no reason. You get paid to sit and greet people. The least you could do is actually be good at it. The fact that you have to go stand and wait there as a pregnant person when they don’t have adequate seating in this heat nonetheless just to make an appointment is beyond me, two days in a row I was made to come there and wait. It’s time to step into the 20th century please. This government needs to get a grip and train your greeting staff properly. Please tell me how you can have electric buses but your hospital records are on paper from the 50’s? The one star is for all the understaffed nurses and doctors who try their best.

Where do I begin; I brought my friend who is 69 years young to the ER around 1:35pm because she was suffering from heart palpitation. No proper head to toe assessment, and she was referred for diagnosis. Blood was drawn and she was kept till 12am and was administered an iv medication while still sitting on an uncomfortable chair for hours. As a nurse in US, this treatment is a total violation of fundamental human rights, I questioned the attending nurse why she was giving my friend iv line on a chair. Rudely, the nurse replied stating that not all patients needs a bed. How foolish was that answer? Meanwhile, all patients in the supposed ER are sitting on chairs and tired, hungry and very sleepy, none were giving a bed pending when the so called doctor will attend to them. When I further asked the nurse why my friend who has been sick and sitting down on a chair since 1pm cannot be giving a bed, at least, for the respect of the iv line, the nurse told me that she is not the doctor that saw my friend, and she foolishly walked away. This hospital must be cleaned out of all it's incompetent nurses and doctors to save Barbados and her people

I arrived at the hospital at 12:26pm on 31/5/22 with a letter from my dr stating that I need to be assessed because she wanted to confirm the diagnosis she was giving me was accurate. I sat in that area from 12:26pm until about 2:20 pm only to have my letter read by the nurse and then have my BP checked and a urine sample. I was then told I needed a covid test to which I had to wait because the person doing the test was at lunch. Got the test and was sent into the waiting area around minutes to 3pm. When I was sent to the waiting area I was told someone would come to administer pain meds to me when I get inside. At 3:57pm I saw no one. I asked a question and was told someone would come to me shortly. I called the hospital directly explaining the situation to which I was transferred to the dr in the waiting area. She told me she's gonna have someone come to give me the pain meds. I was sent to the hospital based on my dr finding signs of appendicitis or a ruptured cyst. Excruciating pain in my lower back on the right and also my tummy has been killing me. I didn't receive any pain meds until 5:27pm (tramadol and gravol. I'm allergic to NDAIDS) meds wore off by 6:15pm. I keep asking everyone for some assistance because tbh it's becoming very hard to sit up straight. Everyone keeps telling me someone would come to see me soon. 3:07am 1st June 22 I'm still in the waiting room and asking a nurse for help to which he told me if it's appendicitis I would have certain symptoms to which I explained to him are the exact same symptoms my dr found and why I was recommended to the hospital in the first place. It's current 3:22am and I'm still here in severe pain. I can't bend nor sit up too straight because of the pain. This is by far the worst service one can ever receive from a place that's suppose to help you. So I guess even in the pain I've been in and the 1 shot administered almost 10 hours ago my situation isn't that serious.

Waited almost 7 hours and never got seen by a doctor. I had no food or water all day and just left at that point. Nobody should have to wait that long that too for the ER. One of the worst overall experiences I've had at an hospital.

The wait is very long everyone has the same time for their appointment..it's like first come first serve some of the nurses are courteous others are just there....everyone looks so busy doing nothing.. Sometimes you get through sometimes you don't. My better experiences were in physiotherapy and occupational therapy. These two departments are exceptional the doctors and nurses there are very courteous..friendly..patient and mannerly compared to the main branch totally different experience. Main branch: You wait long to see the doctor sometimes they show up sometimes they don't. then you have to make another appointment for the next 2/3 months its fustrating its like patients dont have anything to do with their time ... It's a mad house there and just a mess

Having had visit A&E departments in over 10 countries, from Kenya to Thailand, Turkey to UK, I have to admit that this hospital is the worst of all. There were patients waiting in the A&E for over 48 hours. The nurses in particular are very rude. When inquired about long waiting time they just tell you β€œyou can leave if you want!”. I wish we had the option to give zero stars.

The Queen Elizabeth hospital Doctors Nurses and the administration lacks compassion and empathy on the Barbadian people who visits that facility. You would think that the educated so call people that runs that hospital would have some kinda of system that would allow Dr’s like for example Gynecologist/obstetrician a system to allow them to be in the hospital working on Patients that don’t have appointments for certain clinics to be at the hospital in seeking care. It’s a shame that people go to the hospital and kept being told to come back in see a certain Dr by the name of Lashley and never got to see that Dr anytime. It’s a disgrace.
