This is a massive open space with lots to do and see. Great day out for the family or even just a stroll around the magnificent features. There is a small sized castle there where you can climb the swirling staircase which is pretty high up and lots of steps but from the top of the tower you have a amazing panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. There is good amount of parking and it is a payed parking lot. There is a cafe that sells hot cold food and drinks but be prepared for the high prices. In door and outside sitting. Very dog friendly with drinking bowls for dogs. This place has a massive mansion with trimmed gardens each with there own theme. There is a glass house botanical green house that has exotic plants well worth a visit. There are at least 3 toilets 🚻 on site and disabled friendly on all levels. You do have to pay to get in to this amazing place and the cost for an adult is currently £5 per person which in my opinion is value for money. All in all I had a great experience took lots of pictures and thoroughly enjoyed my walk around this place lots to see and lots to do with quiet a bit of walking but enjoyable. I recommend this place for all and everyone.

Our first time here as NT members. Don't follow the entrance on Google maps though it's wrong as we found out, follow the sign for Wentworth Castle and it's there. We were there first thing so got parked easy and headed in. We needed the toilets first thing and found them to be quite a bit of a trek round the house and past the conservatory. Not ideal if you were busting but hey ho it is what it is. They were new and clean by the way. We had a lovely day here overall which started by walking round the gardens and trees which were full of wildlife. There was loads to see and the kids loved it. After the gardens we walked round the deer park area which was quite awesome. The larger deer aren't really afraid of people so we're walking near to the paths and we got some good views, especially of the big stag. The kids also loved playing on the outdoor play area which is really good and they've spent a bit of money on. It was busy by the time we left at 2pm so glad we went early and had the peaceful grounds to ourself for a while. We will definitely go back here again as it was lovely and peaceful and plenty of wildlife to see and had a great long walk which the kids loved.

Well this was a delightful little gem I was unaware of. I believe it's one of the cheaper National Trust places and although not the biggest there is still plenty to see. We went with a pram and a mobility scooter and obviously some paths aren't really suitable but the fantastic people on the front desk helped us out with an "accessibility map" and I also noticed some tables in the cafe were slightly higher to accommodate wheelchairs. Well worth a visit.

Such a beautiful place. Staff are very friendly. Free car park, £5 entry for non members. So much to do. Great play park, lots of gardens, woodland walks, a tower to climb, amazing place for photo opportunities. Lovely cafe with great cakes, scones, soup, snacks and dairy free milk. Second hand books. Have been twice in two weeks and looking forward to going again. So much to explore. A free golf buggy is available so if you're taking grandparents or don't want to/ can't walk, don't need to walk to the top. Pic is a view from the top of the tower. Lovely gardens and there's also deer. Fantastic place. Best national trust I've been to.

Our first visit and we loved it. It is a perfect place to bring the family. Free entry for national trust members or just over £5 if not, which is a great price as you can literally spend all day here. It has a parkland walk which is just over a mile and then a large garden walk which you can get a map for and is easy to follow, this allows you to see all the garden has to offer. The castle ruins are great to explore and a fantastic picnic spot. There is also a tearoom with a secondhand bookshop and a large playground for children. It was a great place to visit.

Excellent day out, took my granddaughter who is 4 and she loved it. Not hard to find and ample parking. Cost was £5 per adult and £2.50 per child, National trust members go free. There is a nice play area at the beginning of the walks, which has swings, seesaws, climbing frames and wobbly bridges, plenty to keep the younger kids entertained. There is also a cafe and book shop to help the adults maintain caffeine levels. The main walk around the gardens are very picturesque with plenty to see including sculptures and a castle, where you can climb the tower and appreciate the stunning views, also a couple more smaller play areas for the young ones. Also you can walk through the fields and see the deer and soak in the natural beauty of the area.

First time to visit here the house looks very impressive with a large garden. If you love rhododendrons then you should come here they are really impressive with purple white and red flowers. I'm not a gardener so I have no idea what the difference between them was so I used Google's lens app which very quickly looked them up from the picture and educated me. There are extensive walks throughout the grounds or take your time and enjoy the gardens. The tea rooms were clean and the food was typically of a high level. There's also a castle in the grounds not a big one however well worth the walk through the woods. I was sad to leave as there was so much more to see I will go again in the future as 3 hours just wasn't enough. The house is by appointment and has specific days one per month so if you want to see the house make sure you book well before. So what are you waiting for off you go and breathe in the beautiful fresh air perfumed by the many flowers.

Very nice place to go for a picnic or a walk. The buildings are gorgeous and the gardens are even better with all the flowers. There's a castle as the name says which was not what I was expecting but the structure itself was cozy and lovely to have a picnic inside. We also got some food at the cafe and it was overall a lovely experience for the price!

Faultless visit. A great day out with amazing beautiful views - even from the overflow car park! Entry is at very low cost (£5.50 Inc gift aid). It is really well kept and it is a large area that sits on a hill side (be prepared for that). We saw everything but were quite efficient so got it all done in 4 hours. We went on an incredibly sunny day but the gardens offer lots of shaded areas which makes it a great place to go on those summer days. The cafe is nice inside and sells high quality produce at expected prices for this type of establishment. Lots of people had brought picnics which works well as there are ample areas for this. There was also a children's play area but we didn't really see that as we don't have kids. Lots of people also had dogs too (didn't see one bit of dog mess though). If you live within an hour you'd be mad not to give the place a visit.

Visited 28/10/2022 using family membership, fair amount of parking. Small walk from reception hut at car park, plenty of space to let kids run around. Lots of family friendly walks around the grounds, very friendly & engaging staff at conservatory, made us feel welcomed & made for a better experience. Definitely recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lovely National Trust location. I met up with a friend here where we went on a lovely long walk in the fields, went up to the top of the castle and explored all the grounds. Beautiful grounds with lovely flowers (and a stunning magnolia tree) and lots and lots of very cute lambs running around in the fields. Would definitely recommend a trip if you're looking for a lovely day out.

Been 10+ times through every season. A great place to walk, picnic, explore and relax. A great play park, nice cafe and good cafe round odd the visit. My one complaint is a lack of bins, I noticed dog walkers struggling to find somewhere to discard poo bags throughout.

Lovely walk around the parkland trail. Muddy boots or wellies needed, muddy and swomp like in places. Could go for a short trail or a long trail length. We chose a longer route today and took us a couple of hours. Benches along the routes suitable for sitting with a picnic. Also a cafe open with indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly however they're only allowed on short leads. There are deer roaming the fields.

Excellent place worth spending £5 for the day. Take lots of food with you and enjoy the whole day. Carol was excellent at the reception. Extremely polite, humble and helpful. She explained the Map very well and highlighted the places that we could visit. Brilliant customer service by Carol. Give her a pay raise!

Nice place to walk, to spend a time out side with your family or friends. The dogs are allowed to be with you on the castle. Only inside of the buildings the dogs are not allowed. I recommend to take from the till the guide book to find out the history of the place. That guide you have to return it back after you finish your visit. On side it has deers, sheep's, historical monuments and lovely gardens. Plan around 3 hours to spend there. It has a play area for the kids (dogs are not allowed). The views, which you can are very nice and beautiful.

We visited here on a Sunday morning and were here for a few hours. The car parking was great with plenty of space. The hall was pretty impressive and the grounds were very picturesque with a large amount of deer there. Parts of the walks were a bit boggy but to be expected this time of the year. The castle was quite impressive with a tower you are able to climb up 82 steps to the top leading to a lovely view. The gardens were well looked after. The only slight thing which stopped me giving 5 stars was that the zip wire was not in very good working order and could probably do with tightening up.

Really nice place to visit. We walked through the grounds up to the castle ruins, which was cool, then dropped down the fields and walked around the deer and back up. Food area was good . I noticed a park there if you have kids. It's not a massive place but if the weather is right you could spend a few hours there.

Beautiful day out with tons to do. The Union Jack garden was fantastic, I loved how it was separated into play areas/quiet areas/themed areas. Great for picniccing with the family (Have I just made a word up?) Also has an amazing playground for the kids - Huge castle, zipline, swings etc. Definitely recommend.

Very friendly welcome and despite being short of staff shop and cafe impeccable service and although reduced options what was on offer excellant. My cauliflower and baji pasty amazing and ginger and honey ice cream to finish unusual. Strange modern sculptures through park certainly topic of conversation and not necessarily agreeing with info boards Folly Castle a delight and if visit endeavour to find dragons tail and then head..clue you will see them in that order. Conservatory good history about plant hunters.

The summer of sport event is a great initiative across the Trust but Wentworth do this exceptionally well here. We were fortunate enough to time our visit when Barnsley FC coaching staff were helping too so our kids had a great time playing and learning football. The sports field was busy but everyone was hearing equipment and joining in with each other. The gardens themselves are full of colour and secluded areas, with good facilities if you want a drink. The wall to the castle is rewarding and views back across Yorkshire worth coming for. The deer park looked intriguing but we didn't have time, a good reason to come back, especially as it's not too far off the motorway. Speaking of which, an added bonus would be EV charging in the car park, even some fast chargers so we could use this as a stop off instead of motorway services.

It is amazing for a day out, hiking and walking in nature. Very relaxing, we spotted some wildlife life as well, like deers. It's definitely worth seeing this place. There is a place for children to play, coffee shop. Definitely, you will need hiking boots. Only the gardens it took us 2 hours.

Well worth a visit. Gardens need a lot of work; not spectacular. The whole place was based on the profits of slave trade and it does say so but it's not the product of endeavour and hard work! However it's lovely.

Really nice gardens and parkland. Fantastic at this time of year for the azaleas. Has a lot of secluded woodland walks with little pockets of interest like shrubbery and fern collection. The fernery had the biggest hosta I’ve ever seen. The formal gardens are nice too with a hedged area with different separated areas. As usual with national trust there is a cafe and a second hand bookstore. The hot food is nice, recommend the soup. The sandwiches are overpriced in my opinion. There is a vast parkland to explore as well if you’ve visited the gardens. And of course I can’t neglect the fact there is a small castle ruin including a tower that you can climb up for a view. really good day out especially when the rhododendron are in bloom and it’s a warm summer day.

Beautiful location and the grounds, gardens and parkland are stunning. The sundial pillar and the castle were interesting and going up the 82 steps to the top of the turret to see those all around views was worth it. The walks are pretty hilly

We went to Wentworth castle gardens today for the first time and it was great. It was very quiet for a Saturday and we saw a huge amount of deer whilst walking on the Parkland. The playground was great and had something for younger and older children. The cafe was fine - we just had coffee and cake which was fine.

  • 5/5 Lu M. 11 months ago on Google
Fantastic day out for families. There is a beautiful playground for children to play in, amazing gardens to explore and peaceful places for picnic either on the tables provided or on the grass. There are a cafe and an ice cream van with plenty of food choice. It would be nice to be able to buy some plants as well. Overall It's really an enjoyable place to be.

Fantastic Parkland walk, full information and photos are on the website. Many walks and details of suitability for dogs, ability, kids etc.. lovely cafe (with recyclable cups and packaging) adventure playground herd of deer. We will definitely be back to do the other walks.

One of our regular walks all year round. Watch out for the events, usually really good especially for kids. Always a slow queue at the cafe but we don't mind too much. Great plant collection, beautiful buildings and structures. Kids love spotting pheasants, voles, rabbits, squirrels, sheep not to mention getting up close to the deer in the deer park.

A great place to visit any time of the year. I was fortunate to be able to spend a few days visiting the grounds taking various types of photographs, including with a 360 camera and a couple of drones.. Speaking to the staff gave me a great incite into the amount of work that goes into keeping a property like this up to date. The plan was to take seasonal shots and look at areas of archaeological interest. Unfortunately that did not materialise with change of ownership. Enjoy the images, the 360 walk around the garden was intended for those people unable to visit the garden, for whatever reason.
