Modern Thai fusion with a vibrant atmosphere. We chanced upon this restaurant after arriving into Brisbane on an evening flight. The renaissance of Fortitude Valley has resulted in the emergence of some real gems like this one. The restaurant is located in a pocket of upscale shops and dining options a couple of blocks back from Ann Street. The minimalist modern decor of the restaurant is perfectly matched by the modern take on refined Thai favourites. There are long tables for groups and some intimate nooks for couples, with a young, upbeat vibe. Expect to pay around $25-$35 per dish. Servings are not huge, but the quality is excellent. Definitely add this restaurant to your must-try list!

Classic Southeast Asian food mixed with modern but yet elegant dining. I highly recommend this Thai inspired restaurant for groups, couples, family events and catch ups. The Spicy Mai Thai Margaritas were delicious! The starters and all of the mains were tasty creative and I highly recommend the Grilled Sweet Soy chicken, Red curry beef cheeks and the Betel leaf sticky pork relish. I’ve been waiting a long time to visit this place and so happy to have gone with great company and had a fun dining experience! I can’t wait to try the rest of the dishes they have to offer!

What a breath fresh air sAme sAme is. It is not the sAme as any other Asian restaurant that I have dined at. Ambience is smart and casual with an open kitchen . Wait staff, certainly ours, was very helpful and attentive. We ordered a bunch of entrees to share and they come thick and fast. Each was more delicious than the last one. Mains unfortunately came out one at the time, but they were not share dishes so unfortunately one ate three waited and so on. Nevertheless the food is spectacular. If you like Asian, if you like spicy and if you are looking for a bit of a dining experience visit sAme sAme .

What amazing food! We ordered the banquet and we were not disappointed. We had two starters each which just whet our appetite. The salad came next which was super tasty. The bug curry was the star, it was so fragrant and flavorsome and I couldn’t stop eating it with rice. I think it could’ve been better with some vegetables in it as it was just bug and sauce. I was not a huge fan of the beef short rib which came next, it was not as tender as I expected and the chimichurri sauce was average. The pad see ew was very different to your average Thai takeout place, the noodles were hand rolled and such a great texture. One of the highlights was the coconut panna cotta. It was the perfect way to end, it was creamy but refreshing with the green apple sorbet. Service was wonderful and it was a lovely atmosphere!

Amazing experience. We had the $79 banquet and the food was beautiful. So many different fresh flavours, succulent meats and vibrant salads all presented beautifully. A bite into the chicken burger takes you immediately to heaven. Service was fantastic. Our wine glass was never empty, food was timed well and staff were professional. Ambience was elegant and relaxing. Darkly lit, nice finishes and not too noisy makes for a great romantic evening. Highly recommend.

We had counter seating which is the front section that faces out. It was SO dark. Customers would really benefit from a little lamp for each two seats so that you can comfortably read the menu and see your food without having to turn on your phone flashlight. We ordered the $84pp banquet and a few cocktails. Overall the experience was enjoyable and the service was great! The kingfish was a stand out dish for us and we really enjoyed the balance of flavours. Least favourite was dessert as it was poorly balanced and the crumb was SO unbearably salty. The rest of the food was pretty good with great flavours but should note that most dishes had a nice kick of spice (chilli). Probably not suitable for people who don’t eat chilli at all as it would be quite spicy to them.

Had the banquet here the other day with some additional oysters. The food was absolutely amazing and perfectly portioned! (I would highly recommend the oysters with the thai vinaigrette if you like chilli). Will definitely come back!

It was highly recommended by a family member. We tried the banquet for 5 people and I think it was too much for us as it was double portion for almost every single dish. Luckily we could take away most of them. Dishes and services are up to standard for the cost you pay. My favourite dish would be the salad and panna cotta. I find the those dishes have interesting flavour that you can't find in most Thai restaurant. The acoustic is poor though. There's no soft touch in the building and the noise echos quite a bit. Difficult to have a good chat. We had lunch so the lighting was fine, I'm not sure about dinner. I might come back for normal dining to try their other dishes but not for a special occasion.

Fresh & flavorful. Elijah was our waiter and he was very attentive. There was a bit of a hiccup with our order which was rectified very quickly. Overall, it was a flawless food & dining experience. One of the best modern Thai restaurants we have had in a while.

Been wanting to come here for years and when we finally made it, it did not disappoint. Absolutely loved it! Amazing service. Incredible food. Had the chef's banquet with wine pairing plus cocktails. The staff were knowledgeable about the wines and food. Will definitely go back again.

Absolutely amazing place! From the decor and the greenery, to the friendly staff we could not fault this place. We came with friends and two kids (both under 3), and whilst this place does not supply high chairs, they were accommodating in moving us to a large table semi outside. The food was so flavoursome, and was presented with such flair! We all loved chilli, but be mindful that some of these dishes are quite hot 🥊💕 Will definitely be back when we are in Brisbane next time. Thanks guys! 😍🥂

First time dining at sAme sAme and really enjoyed it. Had it a few times with takeaway during lockdown. The private dining space was excellent for a warm winter arvo work lunch. The dishes were flavour bombs, with equal measure of texture and aromatics. Wine selection was interesting and offered some top drops. Will certainly be back!

sAme sAme restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience that left us thoroughly impressed. The grilled chicken was undoubtedly the star of the show - tender, succulent, and bursting with flavor. To start, we savored the beef larb, kingfish, and oysters - each dish exuding freshness and a burst of deliciousness. For our main courses, we indulged in a variety of dishes: Papaya salad, grilled chicken, massaman beef cheek, whole fish, and pad see ew noodles topped with roast pork. The combination of Thai spices and traditional ingredients showcased the chef's expertise and dedication to authentic flavours. The only slight downside was that the waiter didn't warn us about the generous portions, and we ended up ordering more than we could finish. Nevertheless, we were thoroughly satisfied and would happily return to try other enticing dishes. Service was impeccable! A standout among the beverages was the "Call Me A Tuk Tuk" cocktail - a refreshing concoction that perfectly complemented our meal. The balance between tequila, coconut and raspberry was amazing! Never had anything like it before! Overall, sAme sAme restaurant provides an exquisite culinary journey through Thai cuisine. With delectable dishes and a warm ambiance, it's a place we can't wait to visit again very soon. 😍🥰

The experience at sAme sAme Brisbane was lovely with flavours that pop, a vibe that is representative of an underground movie set with cool tunes and smells from the kitchen that make you hungry. I had the sAme sAme chicken burger as an entree, the penang curry with braised angus beef cheek with a serving of jasmine rice for the main, the Thai coffee pannacotta for dessert plus a cocktail. The overall food was splendid. The items I chose from the menu partnered beautifully together. I would certainly go back again for the food. As someone from Sydney, it was a worthy experience. If you want quality ingredients, you will certainly have that with the prep work undertaken. You can see and smell the food being prepared with an open kitchen which is cool. The only negative: the service at the start was excellent and then it dropped due to being a single diner. I noticed that once the restaurant started filling out, I was forgotten. It took time for my main plated to be cleared which surprised me. A tip for those dining on their own, you may have to wave your hand a few times to order or ask for something when it gets busy which it will as it’s a popular venue. Suggestion for the staff, always check on your patrons no matter the number of people for a dining experience. I spent a significant amount for one person and at times felt I wasn’t important as the staff were more than happy to go pass me at the counter dining seating and go the tables with 2+ patrons. Just my personal opinion. Other than that, highly recommended!

I had an extraordinary experience at this establishment, as it perfectly matched my preferred atmosphere. The delectable food was not only beautifully presented but also incredibly delicious. The exceptional service added to the overall enjoyment. I am eager to return and explore more enticing options from their menu.

"Every part of our dining experience was exceptional - thank you Oscar, but... the food... WOW WOW WOW!! Each dish was so different, yet there was this beautiful thread of magic that tied them all together. We didn't simply jump from dish to dish. The flavours enhanced each other to create an overall balanced and exciting experience. Thank you so very much!"

We dine out a lot, highly recommend Same Same. Definitely going back to try other food. Food and sevice was great we enjoyed it. If I’ll be picky can say atmosphere is different a bit cramped in but some may like that, we prefer open space views and views of nature or city etc. Chairs were too short for the table. Definitely on our top 10 list of restaurants in Brisbane.

This experience was 9 months ago. We booked in advance but we didn’t feel that we were prioritised as we stood waiting to be seated. It was so cold as the wind blew in when customers came in. The food was okay..fancy. I like the creativity and effort. But service needs to be improved.

Incredible food! A must experience! First time my husband hasn't complained of feeling hungry afterwards. Only downside was the bar seating, the most uncomfortable chairs on the planet. Thank you Tristan for first class service!

I would highly recommend the banquet, it's great value for money and an excellent way to experience their menu. It was $65 a person and there was more than enough food, in fact we couldn't finish most of it. All of the dishes were spectacular. Their curries are the best though. Would highly recommend for groups. Make a booking in advance as they get really busy. @brisbanefoodlovers

I booked over the phone (called straight from google). We were running late so I called them and they said it was fine and that as long as we got there and ate by 8pm it was all good. I was then charged $120 for "not showing up" when we were on the way and was told the cancellation fee was all over the website, when I tried to explain I was unaware because my booking was made over the phone and I was not informed the women laughed at me and told me she was the owner so "it doesn't get much higher then her" and too bad. Poor customer service.

A basic, well thought out restaurant design so that guests can focus on the amazing food!! Our dishes were all amazing. The kitchen is in the middle which is a nice touch. Would enjoy going again to try more menu items. A nice large selection of drinks from bar is available. Recommend you make a reservation and the 5.30pm timeslot works well. Try the pomelo salad and the pork pad se we.

Dined at samesame as a group of 6 and it was one of the most amazing experiences from the moment we walked it. The ambience was delightful, the service was excellent and the food was beyond tasty. There is not one thing I can fault with hus restaurant. I cannot wait to dine here again!

  • 4/5 Lily H. 3 years ago on Google
Delicious but quite overhyped. We got a mix of the starters- the kingfish watermelon wasn’t what was expected but the crab bao and the chicken burger were delicious. We got the massaman curry which was good but I would probably try something else off the menu next time. The pad see ew is delicious and there is definitely a reason why it is still on the menu from longtime.

Wow! What an absolutely fantastic night. The place was book by a friend that doesn't normally eat at such fancy places, so I was pleasantly surprised with her choices. From the moment you enter, you get the feeling that this place is special. The service was exceptional and the food was to die for. There were quite a lot of gluten free options for myself and began options for my dinner date. I didn't get a photo of the curry, but trust me, it was amazing as well.

Good food & modern vibe. Portion is pretty good too. If you are looking for a higher end Thai food, sAme sAme would be a great option. It also means that price point would be higher than some of other popular Thai restaurants in Brisbane. Reservation is must.

My partner and I are vegan and visited on date night for the first time since Longtime shut. There are a few options to chose from, but not too many. Our meal: The lychee cocktails were yummy. The entree tofu bao buns were tasty but the price for the size of them is definitely steep... The Pad See Ew was also quite tasty. And for the Yellow Cauliflower Curry, I think there was something missing... Also the size of that dish was quite small for its price of $28. Most expensive curry I’ve ever bought. Our main waitress was lovely and made the experience good as the other waiters often forgot to bring our drinks and the rest of our food. Interesting style of restaurant. As I said to my partner, “Very Kanye.”

we've been coming since it was down a little alley next to birdies. it's still nice food but I miss the atmosphere, some of the dishes have been simplified which removes their magic and the mind blowing deserts are gone. e.g. chicken burger used to be on its own roll, now just uses same bao bun as other dishes. a small difference that made it special. still one of the best modern asian restaurants minus some of the magic it once had.

Could not fault anything! We ordered the banquet and every plate was delicious. Different from anything we've ever had and all tasty, especially the banana flower salad. Very, very generous portions, we were so full! The cocktails were unique and very yummy! Service was outstanding from start to finish, the best we've had for a long time. Will be coming back and telling all our friends about it!

GOOD: - Great food, will be back to try some things we couldn't fit in this time! - Great recommendations from staff and sommelier - Huge choice of wine, more than I expected with some cool smaller and independent choices - Lovely table and worth making a booking and waiting for! COULD IMPROVE: - were a bit rushed at the end, no one checked in or took an order drinks or dessert for the last 20 minutes of our reservation, presumably because someone else was booked but a bit annoying as we wanted another drink! Especially as staff were standing around talking to their friends at the tables next to us and we were seated late due to the previous table.

  • 1/5 MrHomelessClown 3 years ago on Google
Expensive and terrible value for money (in my opinion). I will preface this by saying the food was delicious and the wait staff were excellent. Two issues with the banquet option ($65 per person): 1. There were seven courses served, but each course was only one serving per five people and intended to be shared, so each person only got a few bites of each dish. I believe the term 'banquet' implies a great quantity of food and in this instance I feel that we paid far too much for the amount we got. 2. On arrival the staff served each person a drink (two options). At least five of our party asked if this was included in the banquet and were told yes. When asked if we wanted refills/other drinks off the menu, I enquired again if this was included and was told yes. Others said that it was implied upon them that further drinks were included. We found out at the end of the night that only the first drink was included in the $65. The venue has told the party host that it was a 'miscommunication' but that the bill was final. CONCLUSION: For $65 per person I didn't expect to still be hungry at the end. Implying something is included (drinks) to encourage greater spending isn't a new concept or even unique to this venue, it's just frustrating to be on the receiving end of it.

4.4 stars - great vibes and friendly staff. The banquet was bang for buck, definitely worth trying! It contained: ♧ betel leaf w/ grilled chilli pork - interesting combo but everything worked well ♧ Longtime chicken burger - bun was nice and soft, chicken was crispy. Yum! ♧ banana flower salad w/ grilled chicken - refreshing, some chicken is a bit dry tho ♧ Coconut & turmeric curry of King prawn - bit too seafoody for me but dish was flavoursome ♧ Grilled beef short ribs - cooked well and melts in your mouth. Very heavy and beefy on its own ♧ roasted pork belly pad se uw - another heavy and salty dish. Pork belly was crispy and amazing tho ♧ Coconut panna cotta - delicious! All ingredients worked well together, the highlight of the menu. Would recommend!

  • 5/5 Alan L. 3 years ago on Google
Interesting. Everything is infused with chilli - even the cocktails. The kitchen runs like a Swiss clock. The food was excellent however I think you might tire over time with the pervasive spice. Definitely try it but without an evolving menu you may not go back too frequently.

Haven’t even dined at the restaurant. But the booking experience was appalling to the point that I wouldn’t even want to dine at such cocky restaurant. We originally booked to dine with 5 adults, when I called to add 2 children(under 3) and 1 infant to our table, they advised us that we MUST dine off the banquet menu. Lady over the phone sounded like they don’t need customers like us or maybe the restaurant was busy enough not to take new customers? How ridiculous to impose the banquet menu when we have 2kids and 1 infant not eating! Absurd booking condition.

This place is a knockout. Discreetly tucked away in a side street in trendy New Farm, inside is so stylish and nicely organised in decor. We sat at the kitchen bar and loved it. Our waitress Kate was super efficient, well informed and very helpful. The Cocktails were superb. The tasters were superb with the scallops winning the prize. And the main courses we chose to share of 2 curries were sublime. One was a bug curry and the other lamb shank. Just outstanding. Can't wait to go back and take more friends.

Eating not dining. Food is nice although the lamb in the massaman was overcooked. VERY loud so not a place for quiet conversation. We had finished eating but were still finishing our bottle of wine when we were asked to leave as there was another reservation for the table. It's not like we'd only spent $20 between the three of us. They had done well off our table.

It was nice but I’m not quite sure it’s worth the hype. Cocktails were delicious and the spicy noodle side dish was SO yummy (probably could even count as a main). But the massaman curry was meh and paw paw salad was okay.

sAme sAme is really good. I enjoyed the cocktail and the beef cheeks curry. The chicken fried rice was also very good! The Kingfish sashimi for me was 10/10, as was the service. Friendly attentive staff. The desserts however was a let down the chocolate parfait was a bit bland. Overall a great restaurant that I would recommend going to.

Service was so helpful and friendly Price is incredible and portions are huge Food was really well cooked and quality ingredients. You have to get the bao buns!! I wasn’t a fan of the Massaman but only because I don’t like aniseed and didn’t realise it was in there. Otherwise great experience

What a beautiful place to eat 😍 gorgeous atmosphere, even more beautiful plating (a little spicy for my taste buds but mostly delicious). My personal favourite, and the reason I’ll be back, is the peanut dessert!

Have been coming to Same Same for a while now. It’s our go to when we’re in Brisbane and it’s certainly worth the 5 hour drive! The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Tonight we were looked after by Ellie who was absolutely delightful. The food is next level delicious .. do yourself a favour indulge in some bao buns cos they are amazing. And if you ever see the oyster shots back on the menu eat as many as you can cos they are sublime! Have eaten through the menu from their starters through to their desserts and never been disappointed in a dish! Thank you Same Same … I’ll be back!!!

The food was fantastic (our group tried the $69 banquet). The service was top-notch. The music was a teeny bit noisy, but that was a minor complaint. Would happily go here again though.

Very flavoursome food and nice vibe here. Great flavours and the bao buns were amazing. We had the $85 banquet. Lots of variety and delicious plates. The only thing is that when you share a banquet with four people the portion sizes are the same as two people (the wagyu course) and sharing between four people is quite complex.

Location of the restaurant is convenient. Staff were nice and friendly. Everyone was very accommodating and kept asking if we need anything or if we wanted to order more drinks however it took a while for the food to be served. It was brought one by one slowly. Food wise, it’s a bit of a hit and miss. The raw kingfish and soft shell crab bao is really delicious! I really enjoyed eating it. The flavor is just so good 👌🏻.The mains that we ordered was a bit of a letdown though especially for the price range. We got the roasted pork pad see ew. The pork was bland although the noodle was cooked well. The combo didn’t complement and tastes average. I also find the steamed snapper dish to have too much ginger on it. I don’t recommend this place for a first date as it’s a bit noisy so it’s hard to hear each other. Overall, it was an underwhelming experience but it’s always worth a try! Maybe their other mains taste good in comparison to what we’ve ordered

Just love this restaurant…amazing food & wonderful service. I’ve eaten here a number of times & also used their takeaway service during lockdown - it was great to receive a thank you message the next day for supporting them. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the dishes I’ve tried. A big shout out to Claire today (30/10/21) for really amazing service - a really lovely young lady! Thank you sAme sAme!!

Same Same has been on the radar for awhile now and I bit the bullet and went by myself. First things first, the staff are absolutely wonderful, they were lovely to talk to and made me feel invited even though I was dining alone. Next the food was so flavourful, the overall tones were spicy and citrusy. I got the Eggnet Salad and Grilled Calamari, and whilst the flavours were bright and delightful, it can get a little bit herb-y with the coriander, celery and green mango. The oysters however, were a highlight and a definite recommendation. They have a bit of a kick to them, but the creaminess of the other ingredients and the oyster itself make it an absolute flavour bomb.

Hot tip, order the soft shell crab boa bun because it is divine. Our entrees were easily the best part of our meal. While every plate was beautifully presented and promised a winning flavour combination some fell short of being great.

Same Same was such an amazing experience. The food was exceptional, the drinks were delicious and the ambience was great. Although we were lucky enough to be seated under a light, I don't know how the other diners managed, it was just a little dark. Totally recommend the salmon tartare, paw paw salad, wagyu and panna cotta.

Love our meal last night at Same Same. Full of authentic Asian flavors, yet very white friendly. Our waitress Kat was amazing, very welcoming and sweat. We had a laugh.

Six of us ordered the $75 banquet and we had ZERO regrets. The food was full of flavour and the timing was perfect. The service was friendly and welcoming. The bao buns are 🤯 We will all definitely be back!!

Delicious and will be back, great service as well. My favourite dish was the the Kingfish salad it was just perfect, followed by the crab omelette, scallop and mushroom fried rice. The pork belly was amazing however really heavy. I wish they would have brought out the rice with the pork belly and I think it would have helped to balance the heaviness. Waiters were very attentive and filled up water often, cleaned our table between meals and attended to us at the front quickly.

Great package! Food, vibes, service, and yes I do think it’s great for large(r) groups and you get to share and try many more dishes! There were only the two of us so it was limited seating (it was going to be at the window bar seats) but luckily the kitchen counter had seats for us. Food wise it was great - every ingredient works perfectly with each other and it left you with such a fresh feeling with all the different flavours combinations at play.

Food here was great and so were the cocktails. For us it was a meal of two halves. The service and great for all the starters, drinks came quickly and matched the pace of the food. All of the starters were packed full of flavour. When it got to mains our bottle of wine didn’t arrive, and 3/4 of the way through we were asked what bottle we ordered. Canceled the bottle as we had nearly eaten our mains and asked for another cocktail. Which also took forever. Staff were apologetic and removed some items from the bill. The lemon grass chicken had a lovely charcoal taste to it. You can see the chef cooking this from some locations in the restaurant good fun to watch.

Nestled in a bustling enclave of delightful restaurants, sAme sAme is an absolute gem. The food is playful and delicious, the staff friendly and attentive, and sitting at the bar you get a ring side seat to see the staff working flat out to prepare each dish. A really enjoyable experience.

Great atmosphere. Waiter was attentive. The scallops & kingfish were amazing. Could not fault these dishes. We had the soy chicken and lamb shank for mains- the spice level was out of this world, & to be honest took away from dish. Limited cocktail menu.

My friends and I tried this restaurant since we have tried their other restaurants Agnes and Bianca. We ordered the set menu and the food was amazing. It was all tasty and we’ve managed to clean up all the plates and had nothing left to take home (unlike Bianca however noting also that food in Bianca are mostly carbs i.e. bread, pasta). The service was great. The only let down was the credit card surcharge which was quite a surprise and friend of mine wasn’t notified prior to making the payment. It would have been 5/5 if the latter didn’t happen.

Fortitude Valley in Brisbane, where laid-back vibes meet luxury, is a captivating blend of bohemian charm and high-end dining. Same Same, a beloved gem in this eclectic neighborhood, is a haven for both locals and travellers alike. It offers a relaxed Asian fusion dining experience with an open kitchen, chic bar, and an intimate, softly lit atmosphere. Their menu is a fusion of Southeast Asian cuisine and Australian local produce, and they’ve mastered the art of blending flavors while maintaining authenticity. Our meal kicked off with amazing oysters accompanied by a zesty green Nahm Jim sauce, a refreshingly delicious start. The smoked trout with coconut peanut dressing and papaya wrapped in betel leaf was a revelation, combining sweet, savory, acidic, and umami flavors in one single bite. The main courses were incredibly generous. The whole fried fish with sweet and chili sauce featured a crispy batter encasing succulent fish, an absolute highlight. The Panang curry, with Angus beef cheek so tender it practically melted, offered a delightful blend of coconut sweetness, nutty peanuts, and chili spices. To complement these delights, we savored perfectly dressed papaya salad and stir-fried morning glory as sides. We savored every plate and somehow found room for dessert - coconut sorbet with crispy lotus and caramelized banana, a perfect ending that combined the refreshing coconut with indulgent sweetness. Same Same left an indelible mark on our taste buds.

Had an amazing lunch here this week. Loved sitting up at the counter being able to see the kitchen staff preparing everything. All the food was amazing, lots of punchy flavours, contrasting textures. This definitely isn't 'fusion' it is real Thai cooking at an elevated level. Drinks list also well suited to the food (though I would have preferred more choice of boozy/stirred cocktails) - had an 'elephant in the room' cocktail which was a great blend of rum and aromatic spices. Only tiny negative would be that I found the chairs at the counter were a little uncomfortable for me but I was just in for a quick lunch so wasn't a real issue.

Went here for lunch. Had the smaller banquet with wine pairing. It was a great experience! Great atmosphere and the food was delicious. Great flavours and spice was well balanced. The smaller banquet was still incredibly filling and the wine was well paired. Enjoyed it greatly. The main dishes others ordered looked equally great. Would recomment ++

new favourite restaurant in brisbane! expensive but you definitely pay for what you get as everything was excellent - the food, the vibe, the service and drinks. we had an awesome night here and every dish was mind blowing. the snacks section of the menu is where the real stars are, would recommend loading up on those as opposed to more mains (ma hor, braised duck and kingfish were the winners!).
