On the expensive side for a backpackers without providing basic things. All of my room-mates had to use own towel and toiletries despite the websites saying toiletries were provided. The power sockets were not convenient located for top bunk people. Aircon was barely working and in summer it's an absolute necessity in Brisbane for aircon to run reliably and effectively. It was cooler in the corridors! Bathroom facilities were disgusting and smelly and carpets are gross, def keep your thongs on everywhere you go. The pool is tiny, not worth getting in. Kitchen was malfunctioning with inadequate crockery (2 forks only!). Happy hour drinks are $6, so not cheap. The trains passing by are noisy and take a bit of getting used to. Many backpackers/hostels in the area nearby so check your options before staying.

They...... called me the next day and I thought I'd left something in my room or that it had been damaged in some way ..... turns out it was a courtesy call in regards to see if I enjoyed my stay....... I informed them that it was pleasant though I would suggest booking in advance ..... seems as though walking in off the street can lead to a quite arduous and thorough security check... peace

Very handy location near the Roma Street railway station makes it easy to get to the airport, the interstate coach terminus as well as the langaul train terminal. Clean rooms and facilities with friendly, helpful staff. Love the courtyard coffee shop.. rooftop bar has a nice skyline view. I'd book there again.

Stayed for 2 nights Nice spacious clean rooms and friendly staff but that’s about it There’s 2 things that were affected during our stay Sleep - lots of noise at night. People screaming and slamming doors. Staff start cleaning during the night which is bizarre. It sounded like they were dragging tables and chairs along at 2am. Hoovering also started not long after this. They also play music over the speakers early in the morning and late at night. Been travelling for the last 3 months and this was by far the worst shower I’ve used. The shower did not reach the bottom half of your body due to the poor water pressure. The location is ok close to fast food restaurants and town Overall I would not recommend due to the above. Not being able to sleep and wash properly meant that this place was a let down.

Private room was basic but clean and nice, very loud trains passing at nighttime which kept us awake but not the fault of the hostel I suppose, many staff very rude. We ware hanging around for an hour to go get out bus and very disappointed that we had to pay to leave our bags in lockers and that we ware unable to use the communal bathrooms on the ground floor as we had checked out. We had already paid to stay for three nights. Showers are poor and bathrooms ware very dirty. Overall its location is not too bad and it’s not overly expensive but again staff and cleanliness let it down.

I checked in on 24/12 at 3pm and 8.30pm when I was already celebrating Christmas with friends, they sent me an email saying that there were 4 confirmed cases of covid 19 and I must to get a Covid test and insolate until I received a negative result. Did they find out about the 4 people on a Friday at 8.30 at night? Or did they already know and let many of people check in on the 24th to get bookings and money.. and they let us know when it was alredy late to run away? I only had 2 days in Brisbane and they would not let me leave the Hostel, in addition, my stay was over and they did not let me stay for free until I receive the test result. Regrettable.

My son won't stay with me at the Brisbane YHA after our last stay, last year while visiting Brisbane to see a Broncos Game. I booked a twin room 4 weeks ahead of time, asking for a river view. Instead we got the room next to the laundry, no view & looking at a brick wall. Thankfully, Alison came to our rescue and there was a riverview room avalable. Such nonsense going on there at the Brisbane YHA!!! No individual service, the centralized booking system doesn't take note of requests and it's obvious that request information doesn't get passed down the line!!!

Wow, they are charging $76 per night for a bed in a 6 share dorm. This is serious exploitation. Explained to me as: - 'inflation' - 'people travelling after COVID' - 'events' - 'matching competitor prices' - 'you should see what people down in Sydney pay for shared rooms in hostels, upwards of $100 per night!' When I asked how they justified the prices, and whether they were making a huge profit, I was asked, 'so are you going to make a booking or what?' I was then hung up on. Please note, I was NOT rude or loud, just asking questions that apparently were uncomfortable for them to answer.

Very close to the center and bus station, cleaner than the average of the other backpackers and young and helpful staff, very clean rooms and bathrooms, these are the main advantages of the YHA in Brisbane, while the cost is certainly higher than the other hostels. Spend more, it's worth it, even just to be able to enjoy a swim in the pool or eat on the large panoramic terrace which you can access in total freedom from six to midnight.

private King room with great view. just a bed, toilet and shower which were tiny, but it's all we needed. ( couldn't have got in the shower if we were any chunkier tho ) 5 minute walk to suncorp and the city . unfortunately they didn't have any close parking for us, as they'd sold off their parking for concert goers, but location was key. pool and rooftop bar were a winner too. thought it was a bit expensive but again, location was great and after a big night ,the bed was really comfy. Very clean and tidy 👍

To sum Brisbane City YHA up would be MOULDY. We had black mould in our room it stunk! The showers had mould on the soap holders which made me feel sick to my stomach. Without the mould it would be a decent hostel, good location, comfy beds, kitchen area / communal areas are ok (when people clean up after themselves) the tv room could definitely do with some new sofas or bean bags though. The view from the bar is great! Most staff were friendly and helpful.

Everything is good apart from you shouldn't stay there if you have a car. They don't have car park of their own. I asked and The lady at the concierge desk said "I don't know park in suburbs", and was rude and kept asking between my question "how do you like to pay "? I had to pay $85 for overnight parking, which was more than I paid for a bunker bed I slept in. Utter disappointment

Good place if you don't want to get any sleep, Moved room today to a quiet area so I was told by reception. But still at 11am "kids after their 2 beers" talking loud, singing, shouting, banging doors. No respect for any others in rooms. Thank God Im checking out tomorrow and finding a hotel for some comfort.

Absolutely will never set foot in a YHA again in my life. Drove 7 hours from Forster to Geebung on Good Friday. Whilst sitting with a friend and having dinner, we decided to contact the YHA. We booked a room for one night, and began our 30 minute drive back into the city (with a car trailer in tow). There was no parking available whatsoever, so we drove to the Wilson Parking and walked back to the YHA with our bags and arrived at the check in. Upon entry, the girl at the counter asks for ID and Vaccine Proof. As one of us was not 'Fully' vaccinated, she rejected us entry to the hotel. We argued that QLD Health no longer imposes these restrictions and she said that this was something the YHA has chosen to uphold. Now normally this wouldn't be an issue for us as it's our personal choice not to get the second vaccine, however had we been told on the phone at the time of booking, we wouldn't have been in this mess at all. The end result of this sent us an hour out of our way to drive to the YHA, 2km walk to and from the car with our bags on our backs, and as it was the long weekend, our refund didn't process until Easter Sunday, meaning we had to pay AGAIN for a completely different hotel who were more than accommodating. We will remember this decision and choose not to spend our hard earned money with hotels who openly choose to discriminate.

I stayed at this YHA on 2 occasions. The first time was fine however the 2nd time I had the worst sleep of my life. We were placed in a room which was directly next to the train lines and so at 7am peak hour multiple trains a minute were roaring directly past our window. I think this would have been fine if the room was cheaper (given it’s location was significantly worse then the other room I stayed in further from the train line). Wouldn’t recommend this hostel simply because they weren’t upfront that I would be awoken by trains roaring past constantly.

Central location, great views! Small, clean but smelly room, did have private bathroom though. Rooms are far from soundproof, but can't expect to much for minimal $$. If your after very cheap, very basic, centrally located accommodation this works.

A great view -star hotel you will find in Brisbane, I booked online last 6 months ago for work. The experience are great on online booking is very fast, what you see is what you get. The service are great also, and got the pool on the top which you can really relax after a long day.

I really loved my stay here. + : clean rooms, confortable beds, big lockers, big kitchen with many fridges, tennis table, good location (near a supermarket, a bus station and the train station, and not too far from the city center), good price, etc. - : near the railway (could be noisy in some rooms), do not provide free luggage storage (need to use a locker and pay to keep luggages before the check-in, so most people prefer to wait hours at the reception to avoid paying the storage fees)

Thank you to the staff, especially Brigitte at Brisbane YHA. They hosted our group of 20 and extended our stay for an additional night after our flight was unexpectedly cancelled. Brigitte (sorry if that's not the spelling) was incredible and set up and room for us to privately watch a kid friendly movie. She rolled out mats, provided blankets and even made the kids popcorn!! Above and beyond. Thank you for helping the students to form wonderful memories of the trip even though they weren't expecting the extra night.

Worst hostel so far in Australia. Staff were great, friendly and helpful, but the building itself and the processes in place need a complete overhaul. Cleaning is seriously so bad. The building feels like a haunted hospital. Doona cover looked like it hadn't been washed since it was bought in the 90s, covered in white dried fluid. The toilets that have showers aren't signposted so you spend ages looking. The showers are dark, musty, without windows and only run cold. Wall next to my bed had something gross running down it. Room was next to noisy train tracks. Location isn't great, it's a minimum 40 minute walk into Fortitude Valley. Kitchen was sooooo grim, noodle blocked sinks. The rooftop area needs some serious interior design love put into it. Also, the worst grievance, the east coast fork shortage continues here.

Overall stay at YHA Brisbane was great. I stayed in a four-bed shared female room for 3 nights. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The lockers in the room were big and spacious but had no lock so would recommend you bring one. The only thing I found a bit inconvenient was there were not enough showers on one floor. Had to wait some time during busy hours. The staff were friendly and very helpful and there was a big communal kitchen area on the top floor. The location was good, 10 10-minute walk from the Roma Street station and plenty of bus stops nearby. Would recommend for a short stay.

Pro: -nice rooftop -nice pool -service really kind and friendly!! -location is okay Contra: -you had to prepare your own bed -air conditioner direct over the bed (it’s not possible to sleep 10cm away from the ac and your head) -rooms a little bit to small -you can smell the food everywhere in the 4th floor -no lids for cooking pots available -not enough forks -daily activities of the hostel are not always carried out

Good afternoon the service was good however myself and partner had booked a room with parking, to rock up early and find out our parking space was giving away so had to park half an hour away from the hotel, which made us late to the event. On another note the kettle in the room had mould in the bottom of it , the bath mat had mould growing on the bottom of it, stains on the blankets, the sink had hairs in it, the cups and spoons were dusty and the milk was off. Talk about workplace health and safety. I am disappointed at the experience in this hotel. Like honestly if your gonna give a paying customers car park away let them know don't just give it away and then go oh sorry find somewhere else to park. And to pay $303 for one night , it wasn't worth paying that for the cleaness of the room. To pull back the sheets and find a pube hair was quite disturbing.

Given the extreme price of hotels at the moment, with my usual being 3x the price, I looked at hostels. I found a private room at the YHA for about what I used to pay for hotels. It's a little bit of a hike up from Roma Street station, up a hill, in the hot afternoon sun which wasn't the most pleasant. The staff then take your photo and give you a card to access your room. I was pleasantly surprised by what I found there. Elevators up to the rooms, and in my private room it had its own bathroom and air conditioning. (The air conditioning turns off automatically every hour or 2). As I'm only there to sleep, and out all day, that suited me. It's a little noisy with train tracks ride outside your window so bring ear plugs. There is a kitchen upstairs where one can store and prepare food, and a bar and pool outside in the evenings. A TV and yoga room also make the stay more enjoyable. Downstairs they have a $12 breakfast which was little more than a few different breakfast cereals and instant coffee, which wasn't really worth it. Limited parking in a tiny car park for $20 a night.

The communal areas in the hostel are great - beaut rooftop area and the kitchen is spacious. The staff are also super friendly and helpful. However, I think the hostel should specify if a room doesn’t have a window. I was in a shared 6 bed room and the lack of a proper window made it feel very dark and depressing / stuffy (think I was unlucky as other rooms looked nicer). The toilets are also very basic and had a weird smell but that’s to be expected in a hostel.

  • 3/5 Robin J. 10 months ago on Google
The location is convenient, there's a great view of the city from the rooftop with good communal facilities. However, the rooms are not up to the current specification of YHA Australia. There was also a lot of noise coming from the communal areas throughout the night until about 7am. Luckily I had earplugs.

Very nice hostel with good ammenities and lovely staff. However a rule by upper management that absolutely needs to be changed is that I was hoping to leave a bag in the storage frol Saturday to Sunday. As I was checking out of my room and then checking back in on Sunday. I was told that upper management does not allow this. This is beyond incomprehensible. As if it were for safety they would not let you pay for the same service. Even staff believe this should be changed

Excellent accommodation, high standards of cleanliness, a great café for breakfast in the mornings and very welcoming staff. Incredible views from the roof terrace, which has a bar serving food and drinks in the evening. I slept very well in the beds here and found the whole experience very enjoyable. Thanks YHA Brisbane for a great stay

I have been to YHA sydney which was a really good experience… but it’s not the case with YHA brisbane. 1) A lot of noise outside and inside 2) Dirty room and bathroom 3) Room looks like jail room and less electronical outlet than bed 4) Laundry : bad dryer for 4 $, need to dry twice, total paid 16 $ for laundry Location is good

I was absolutely abused by a guy name nick hes a manger blamed me for being sick with a little cold and kicked me out and they randomly call an ambulance then kick me out. So disgusting. I was absolutely abused by him and then he says I was harassing the guest. His name is nick and he's a manager absolutely disgusting service and leaves me to suffer in the street and threatened me with police feral. Because I was sick going from cold weather Canberra to a new type of weather. Like what do U expect. Absolutely disgusting. He will kick U out if U are sick. Ask him for his tapes. He was so rude nick the manager works on Fridays and said he's been there all week and lies about what he does. Disgusting.

The hostel miss some couch in the commun area and some spaces are always closed as they shouldn't be. The swimming pool and the bar are very cool but some rules need to be changed, you feel like is it just a place to spend money and not really enjoy partying.

Overall standart hostel. Rooms are clean. Nice rooftop bar and kitchen. The kitchen is huge but there is not enough indoor seating at the kitchen for rainy days. Also people stealing food from the fridge. Reception said that happens from time to time. There should be an opportunity given to secure food in the fridge if this is the case.

In late 2020, I stayed here and the staff were brilliant at making sure all covid19 policies were followed. Lovely staff and very good and extremely clean/ hygienic and safe accommodation. Unfortunately, people being people sometimes don't follow guidelines set out for everyone's well-being or it's just something that happens. That shouldn't impact negatively long-term upon a place which does the right thing by everyone. This YHA and its staff do the right thing. It is managed extremely well, by efficient, friendly and really lovely staff and they are awesome.

Room was good and weekly rate was super fair but the reception staff were pretty rude (except nice man with long hair and Scottish girl!) Lady who checked us in was maybe overworked and got mad at me when I asked if I could move out of the basement on floor one when available (dark down there!), huffing at us around the hostel afterwards. Bit weird. But after that the hostel was fine. PS no byo alcohol allowed! I didn't know before checking in

Private rooms with ensuite are great! A good size and kept clean by good cleaners. The manager is excellent and kicks out trouble makers or anyone bad. Most hostels in Brisbane have criminals and homeless in them. This YHA is pretty good in this area. So its safe and big dorm rooms too.

Excellent city views from 5th floor where there is a pool. They are fighting covid by hiring a set of cutlery and crockery for refundable deposit. Result, the cleanest hostel kitchen I have seen.Rooms have en suite bathroom and air conditioning. I have stayed in hundreds of hostels worldwide-this would make the tol 6

Me and my partner was looking for a place to rest and sleep, and definitely we didn’t rest and sleep. Terrible location, just in front of the train rail, we couldn’t sleep all night because of the noise of the train. Also, apparently they don’t have a silent time, from 10pm to 6am there was people screaming at our door and making noise on the hall. Also, there is no save parking. They promise a save car parking and when we arrived they said it was full. Terrible experience and the price expensive for this.

The aircon automatically turns off at middle of the night and it’s extremely hot and wrecks my sleep to wake up and turn it back on. They’re set to time limits so they can save money and put profits above comfits, with the excuse that “the money goes to charity” what garbage.

Everything was pretty good here apart from the rooftop bar being closed due to rain, as it is not completely under cover, so is too dangerous to open apparently. It was meant to be a coffee bar in the morning so missed out on that too, even on our last day which was gloriously sunny, as it was still closed. It would be good for the cover to be rectified in the future so that weather doesn't impact this, particularly because being a YHA you are unable to bring any alcohol in with you. The location was excellent, as we attended Suncorp Stadium.

Met some friendly people that were staying there and will definitely be staying there in the future next time I require a bed for the night (or longer) Good rates on the rooms as well. The rooftop terrace, swimming pool and bar area were fantastic, especially the views. Highly recommend!! 💯💯💯

Good price great service, and a pretty standard hostel experience all around. We booked to stay in a shared 4 bed female dorm, the room was clean and air con worked well. Only issue is having all the power points in the cupboard not near the beds. There’s quite a lot of noise from slamming doors (they all clunk very loudly), and because we were here in school holidays there was a school group on our floor that was very very loud in the mornings, although reception were lovely and had a chat to the group leaders about keeping the noise down in the mornings. The shared bathrooms had 2 showers, and was pretty average (you get what you pay for), but the water is nice and hot and I never really had to wait for a shower. Kitchen pretty average for a hostel, gets the job done. The rooftop view was beautiful! The rooftop pool needs a good clean though, not really useable at the moment. Overall, it’s pretty good if you’re looking for somewhere that is cheap, and you don’t mind a bit of noise/staying somewhere pretty basic (like any hostel really).

Loved my stay. I booked for 2 weeks, every step of the process was easy! From emailing them from overseas they replied to me immediately , to check in and organising a car park etc the staff are friendly, helpful and always available which is a massive bonus. The rooms are nice, the facilities are very good and cleaned regularly, certainly a higher standard then any other backpackers ive stayed at. This is what i would rate as the best backpackers experience ive had !! Oh and the PRICE is excellent!!! Definitely worth it. I highly recommend this place.

Good quality beds, clean for hostel measures, big kitchen with equipment but other guests leave their dirty dishes without washing them a lot of the time. This isn't the hostel's fault but it just makes it a little less comfortable to stay there, which is why "only" 4 stars. Very friendly and helpful staff, especially Patricia and Tom from reception are very attentive.

A 5 night stay here and a poor one at that. Pros: - fast wifi - nice view of city - air conditioned - well equipped kitchen despite hobs not working Cons: - strange location in a rough part of town, located on a street with halfway house hostels next door - room was like a prison, dingy lights, smelly (mould and damp) and dirty throughout - bathrooms were even worse. Water pressure is more like a water fountain in the showers, floor covered in dirt and grime - about 20 seats to eat at so we had to stand most nights to eat dinner (note the tv lounge was being “refurbished”) - some odd characters in the dorm room Overall, regardless of the price/night this was the worst stay of our trip down the East Coast so far. Then factor in the £32/night per bed in a dorm and you’ve got really unsatisfactory stay. I’d recommend staying in Brisbane Quarters (or similar) for less money and a better experience. YHA I’m not sure I’ll be back to any of your hostels if they are the same as this which is a shame.

As with other YHAs: clean, nice facilities, solid location. But strangely this one locks the kitchen (along with the rest of the fifth floor) from 12AM-5AM. Might seem inconsequential to some people, but I'm a night owl and wasn't able to refrigerate my takeaway food after exploring the city. Well, a staff member did kindly unlock it to let me in, but since the fridges were full and I wanted to possibly access my food at 1AM (sometimes that's what's called for!), I just abandoned the idea. Can't think of any other accommodation that blocks access to your own food for a 5-hour block of time. Anyway, the place would be perfect otherwise. For what it's worth, this was a more "20-somethings university dorm hangout vibe" than other YHAs I've stayed at. Nice energy, maybe not my vibe but it works. About 20-60minutes walk to the "action" downtown.
