Excellent backpackers. The couple who run this backpackers are really lovely people. They were so helpful and friendly during my entire stay. They made me feel right at home. The room was perfect, nice and clean and very comfortable. The outdoor area is so cool, with hammocks and a pool and it's all very well kept.

What's wrong with hostels in Brisbane? They're horrible and expensive. The kitchen here is horrid. No room for anyone else. The place is full of long term workers so it's hard to socialise. I couldn't sleep because of the noise. The only good thing was the cleaning (but the kitchen). Better to avoid this hostel šŸ“£

Impossible to sleep here; booked a private room for a week for more than $1000! Didn't sleep for 5 nights, had to book elsewhere to sleep after 5 nights while paying for 7. Cockroaches were running on the room's floor, my skin itched when I was inside the sheets (bed bugs?), extremely thin walls and floor; you could hear everything happening in the corridor and the rooms around as if there were no doors and walls. There were loud noises with the bed shaking when someone walked in the corridor, doors slamming loudly every 5 minutes (also making the bed shake). A loud electrical system woke you up every time someone used the tap water in the shared bathroom in front of the room. Someone opening the door everyday at 10am if you want or not after a loud knock, no leave me alone sign for the door, no inside lock. Additionally there was no light in my private bathroom for 3 days, the time it took them to change it. Greedy and unprofessional manager, refusing to shorten your stay or refund anything, not answering emails or the Booking chat. Employees had instructions not to give his contact. Probably expects people to leave early so he can charge the same room another time to someone else.. He told me on the second day, when I went to ask at the reception, that the rooms were all taken but that maybe a room could be available later but it would be in a noisy part of the hostel as well. He never followed up on that and never offered anything else. On the fourth day, I went back to see him to ask again if I could shorten my stay. He said no once more, mentioning that all the rooms were still occupied, so switching rooms was not possible either. His preference to see his guests suffer for a week rather than allowing them to shorten their reservation, especially when all the private rooms were booked for the entire week and he could easily find someone else, speaks volumes. Just before that, I stayed at the YHA next door, real walls where you can sleep, way better service. Update 2023/10/28: Two hours after I left for a new hostel (without checking out and with still two nights left on my reservation), I came back, and the manager was already trying to sell my room to someone else. Two employees were in my room cleaning it for someone else (they told me the manager instructed them to clean it because "I had checked out" šŸ˜‚). Furious, I went to the reception, and the manager insisted I had checked out in front of many people. But how could I have checked out when I still had the key in my hand, boss šŸ˜…? He kept insisting again and again. Disgusting, it's a cheap place in every aspects. In the end, I ended up giving my key freely to a girl for the two nights. They didn't want me to do that, telling me I didn't have the right, but I had paid for a room for two people, boss, and I was alone, so this was my +1. I don't understand this business model of making people leave early without a refund so they can rent the same room for the same days to different customers. Oh, wait... yes, I understand, it's all about $$$. I'm surprised this hostel received an unexpected perfect review (with promotional pictures) just hours after mine! Some people should not work in the service industry. And how can this place be listed on Google as a 4 stars hotel šŸ˜…, when it's not even a 1 star hostel?

It's a basic Australian hostel. The best part are the common areas, the views from the terraces are amazing, the pool is nice and with good weather there is enough space for everyone. The kitchen is super busy and for some reason the least people cleaned their plates I have ever come across. The rooms have no lockers, not enough electric outlets, no curtains and the beds are quite a bit shaky. It's a 10 min walk from the bus station, 20 min walk from the city centre

Disappointed about lack of communication about needing be an international backpacker. I booked through a 3rd party in order to secure accommodation so I could work at Ed Sheeran concert. I was turned away with only 2 hours before starting work, as I am an Australian, living just over the border and with only a sportsbag. I think you need to rethink your definition of backpackers and their needs. It is about encouraging diversity and allowing all people to travel and stay in the city centre on a budget. As long as all guests follow the rules of courtesy, there should not be any discrimination.

Great hostel if you want to meet people. Outside area has a pool and a ping pong table as well as plenty of tables to chill out in and two hammocks. The entire hostel is a BYO area, which promotes a really social atmosphere in the outside area at night. The rooms are a bit cramped, with no storage lockers. There's no air conditioning, instead there's a fan for every room. The kitchen gets quite full near dinnertime, but the facilities are relatively clean.

I stayed in one of the private rooms for a few nights. I found everyone great to deal with and the room was clean and tidy. Mattress was comfy. They accommodated for my large car too. The car park is tight and has a steep hill but has high roof clearance. My van is 2.4 meters high and fit with ease.

My experience was terrible. Iā€™ve been there 3 times. In my first experience, in March, was okā€¦ no more. Last month was poor, very dirty place, cockroaches in the bedroom and bathroom. Last week, I decided to give them a chance to show me a good service, but when I arrived at reception, there was no one there. The next day they refused to host me or to refund me the amount I had already paid. I do not recommend. the YHA, next door, has another level of service, this one I recommend. Much cleaner and more organized than City Backpackers.

Amazing hostel! Comfy, clean rooms. The bathrooms were throughly cleaned every day. The kitchen was big and efficient and the staff were incredibly helpful; they are still sending us our post even after weā€™ve left. The view over the river and city was spectacular, I cannot recommend this hostel enough.

A very friendly place that makes you feel welcomed. I'm from Colombia, I arrived in February of 2022 and I had a lot of trouble finding a place to live, but during that time City Backpackers always showed me their support by writing good references (quite a lot of them) about me and my boyfriend so that we could find a place to live. My room was very clean and comfortable, the cleaning staff cleaned the room every day, I stayed in a private room and therefore I had my own fridge and bathroom. If you want to meet people it is a great place to do so since the hostel has a pool and a very cool area to drink some beers and stay there in the afternoon with a very good view of the city. Additionally, the location is great. I left with a great image, I know you are going to have a good experience there too.

Great variety of rooms available! Really close to Roma street station so easy access to different areas in the city and queen street mall is a short walk away. The views from the viewing tower are amazing & the pool is great for relaxing! Common areas were clean and tidy too.

***Jen the housekeeping manager has been an absolute joy. As a former staff member I am nothing but grateful for all her hard work*** That being said, my time at this hostel came to a rather bitter end, unfortunately. This was mainly because of the hostel manager. Throughout my time traveling I've stayed and worked at numerous hostels and have always been treated with respect. Sadly, the same can't be said for this place. During my time employed at this hostel I found the whole housekeeping staff to be at the very end of the food chain and felt very underappreciated for the hard work we all did/do. I had not declined any of my duties as a housekeeper in 3 months until one day I had said I'd rather start at 10 instead of 8. The manager responded to this with questioning my work ethic and giving me the day off. However, literally 10 minutes later I received a text letting me know I was fired instead. 1. I was given the choice to start at 8 or 10, so I don't understand the problem of me starting at 10. 2. The manager didn't even have the balls to tell me he was letting me go to my face. Instead I was offered a leaving interview after the fact. 3. The 2 hour shift I declined wasn't even at City Backpackers but a different hostel. Even though I understand my decision to not work for 2 hours to be unfavourable from a business point of view, I wish I'd be treated with a little more respect as I had worked almost every single day for 3 months. ________________________________________ To leave this on a good note though, all receptionists are total legends. Special mention goes to Celia!!! The location is great, close to the supermarket, liquor store, gym, barber etc. The pool is easily the best part of the hostel and all the people make it so much fun. BUT I will not be returning to this place ever again. Watch the manager try and tarnish my name with lies in his reply...

So I loved staying at this place. It is busy and loud at times, but everyone is so friendly and fun. If you want to meet lots of great people and you are able to just accept that you are staying in a backpackers, and not a 5 star hotel, it is fantastic. The room I stayed in was clean, basic, but absolutely did the job. I'm so glad this was the place I booked in Brisbane, I would 100% recommend. And the pool and outdoor areas are absolutely fantastic. Pool was spotless and cleaned regularly. Unfortunately the weather was terrible the day I took a few pics, a storm was on the way, but ya get the idea.

I wish 0 stars was an option. Myself and 30+ long term residents had been staying here for 4-6 months. The previous management were brilliant and block booked our rooms out so we could pay weekly rent when we got paid. We were told the management were changing as of the 1st of September and no longer had the ability to block book our rooms - we were not given any other details. No communication was given from management to anybody staying in the hostel and not to people who live and work there. We have collectively given the hostel 30k + in our time here as the rates are double other hostels in the area ( also owned by the managers at city) and have all been told we need to leave and move rooms on a daily basis. We have tried to speak to management about this and have been met with rude responses and no guidance whatsoever. This lead to residents of 5 months + being told they have nowhere to stay as of the weekend.Unfortunately as a result most people have left this hostel and I would NOT recommend for anybody looking to stay any longer than a week. Absolutely appalling customer service - they only care about the money and couldnā€™t care less about the people staying there.

Perfect hostel, one of my favourites Iā€™ve stayed in so far in my 6 months in Australia. The staff were amazing - so lovely, professional, and went above & beyond to help. The hostel was super clean - bedroom and bathrooms spotless. Brilliant common area to socialise in, so easy to meet new people as a solo traveller & felt really safe. Rooftop area with pool was great. I spent 4 days in Brisbane with plans to explore the city, but I loved the hostel so much I just stayed there all day every day. No regrets, will definitely return when Iā€™m next in Brissie.

It's the cleanest hostel I've ever been before. Itā€™s a good place to meet people, and even though there many people, itā€™s always kept very clean, especially the kitchen and bathroom. Itā€™s 5 minutes walk from cbd and close to the coles.

I have just left City Backpackers after staying here for 6 months. Whilst our time in Brisbane was fantastic, there were a few things that we feel need addressed. The hostel has a great social aspect. They currently donā€™t have a bar so itā€™s a bring your own situation which I feel is a great way of meeting people in the communal areas. These areas are very spacious and there are always people around to socialise with. With staying in the hostel for so long, it did become to feel like a family. Some of the receptionists were fantastic and couldnā€™t do enough for us. Iā€™d like to specifically thank Kodi, Grace and Celia they are all lovely and it was always a pleasure speaking with them. There are quite a number of long term residents at the hostel and under previous management, we really felt valued. There was a change of management whilst we were staying there. When we asked what this would mean for long term residents we werenā€™t informed on anything. With previous management we were able to block book our rooms and pay for them weekly. After the management changes this was no longer the case which meant we were constantly panicking about if we could extend our rooms or not. On numerous occasions people were told that they had to move rooms with a moments notice or told there was no space for them at all resulting in some people having to move hostels. While the kitchen is a good size and probably one of the biggest hostel kitchens Iā€™ve used, there were constantly things broken. A few weeks ago one of our group went to take something out of her fridge bag and realised that it wasnā€™t working. She went to inform a member of management and he told her that they knew the fridges werenā€™t working and would try do something about this but didnā€™t know how long they had been off for and hadnā€™t indicated to any guest that they werenā€™t working. This resulted in many food items having to be thrown away because it would have been dangerous to eat. There were often a number of hobs, hot water taps, toasters and microwaves that didnā€™t work. This is obviously not ideal when wanting to cook. There were also never any spoons of forks. One room that we stayed in for a while was room 34, the 16 man dorm. This is a rather large room and granted there were a lot of things in there given the number of people living in there but the room was never cleaned. Cleaners would mop a tiny square of floor space near the door and nothing else. Many people would use sheets to hang on their beds for a bit of privacy, one particular day a member of management came into the room and removed all sheets without any notice. When asked, we were informed that there was a big group booking and they didnā€™t have enough sheets to accommodate them. We found this to be quite invasive. One of the girls had just finished a nightshift and was woken up to this man removing her sheets. This was kind of unacceptable. I had a bottom bunk in room 34 and kept my belongings in two boxes under the bed. One day I came back from work and found that my things werenā€™t there. I asked reception if they knew where they were and was told that they hadnā€™t received any note about it. I later found said boxes, thrown into the storage part of the car park not placed neatly but literally thrown everywhere. I am unsure why these were thrown and no note left for reception about this. This was also unacceptable. Overall, we did have a great time at this hostel but that is solely down to the people that stayed there and a few staff members. We understand that there will be teething issues when changing management but most long term residents felt unappreciated and kept out of the loop. Again, we understand that it is a hostel and facilities arenā€™t going be state of the art but at the minimum you would expect working appliances, soap and paper towels. Some reception staff are great, however I think management need to up their game when it comes to long term residents because they provide a significant amount of income for the hostel. They wanted us in winter but not so much summer.

As many reviews note on here, prior to the management change this hostel was absolutely brilliant. Very social hostel with lovely front of house staff, great location and amazing social areas. However the new management/ownership lack any regard for long term residents and customer service skills. You can no longer block book rooms, meaning many people staying in the hostel that had been living there for 6+ months were told they had nowhere to stay at a couple days notice and others were constantly having to move rooms on a daily basis - asking people to checkout and move rooms even if they had work at 6am. For the price of this hostel you expect a bit more and at the bare minimum to be spoken to like a human being by management when raising these concerns. There were a few instances it felt they breached privacy - a friend of mine sleeping after a nightshift woke up to the manager looming over her bed taking her sheets away that she had hung over the bed to block the light out. Several other friends came home from work to find their belongings had been moved out of their room without any warning or even a phone call to let them know where they were or why theyā€™d been moved. As noted all other members of staff are absolutely wonderful - just such a shame new management came in and changed everything for profit maximisation. Donā€™t fix something that isnā€™t broken!

The staff were really professional throughout the whole time of me staying here and very fair and communicative towards any concerns I raised with them without jumping to any hasty wrong judgemental assumptions also if i spoke with them about any delicate special individual unique matters. It was great mingling with some fellow travellers and hearing their story of how scared they were as well to commence their first travels but how meeting good people along your way at hostels like this is obviously what makes the whole thing worth facing that fear. Recommended, I would go back.

The place isn't perfect but it's the best hostel I have been to so far. There's a large commercial kitchen. However, it needs more fridge space and a new set of utensils. Attention isn't paid to the details. Small things like a pool table with cues that can't be used. It has a great view of Brisbane. Sadly, a development is underway now and will probably change that.

Hostel well placed near Roma street and spacious with many backpackers. Nevertheless the service is deplorable, the staff is managed by Italians who only do what they want and with a lack of lucidity when it comes to understanding. They try to rip you off by offering you the most expensive rooms and can exclude you from the hostel for any reason, even if it's not valid. And don't expect a refund from them. Be careful!

Great hostel, I really loved my experience there and will definitively be back! Amazing common areas including a terrasse with stunning views, hammocks and a movie room. Staff was friendly and helpful, my dorm was very spacious, clean and the bed super comfortable. Very clean bathrooms at all time, and excellent location right next to Roma Street Station. Thanks!

A really wonderful hostel before the change of manager. I lived there for several months and even though it was a bit expensive, it made for some crazy memories. Disappointed with the changes that were made some time ago: everything closed much earlier, unpleasant employees who throw people out, impossible to park your car (threatened with fines: $200 even though it's supposed to be included in the price)... and so on. I'll miss how it was before !

Rooms are spacious. There's a malfunctioning alarm going off over two months now. Owner doesn't care about fixing It. Had to get earplugs to sleep. It's great they have a student discount but it's still kinda expensive. Most students are people studying English, very noisy as well. Update 10 sep 23 : no more student discounts, it's 350/week now for my 6 dorm bed, tottaly not worth the money. Still alarm is malfunctioning

I had a private room in this hostel. Pros: Most essentials are available - towels, shared kitchen (with a lot of shelves and fridge space, stoves, kettle and hot water dispenser). Bring your own shampoo / conditioner etc. Free wifi in public spaces (and in certain rooms if you're lucky). Air conditioned Cons: The sheets looked mostly clean but had a few small stains. Unfortunately, it was noisy all throughout the night. Shared bathroom is mixed. Note: Located conveniently within walking distance 5-10 min from Roma Station (do not get off at Central station, which is what Google suggests). Overall decent value in comparison with surrounding hostels / hotels.

Dirty rooms and facilities, absolutely disgusting. Hair clogging the showers not being cleaned for days, toilets without toilet paper, dirty floors and smelly rooms. The kitchen was an absolute disaster, dirty dishes piling up and food everywhere, tables were dirty as well. Loud music until late in the night, so not much chance to get some sleep.

  • 2/5 Lucy 6 months ago on Google
When we arrived we were not greeted with a ā€˜welcomeā€™, but instead a ā€˜you came in the wrong entrance, donā€™t do that againā€™. However, the guy on reception was very very friendly! The room itself was ok, nothing special. The shared areas were disgusting. The bathrooms are unisex and generally unpleasant and I couldnā€™t use the kitchen as I actually think my food would be contaminated with something just by being in the area. Pretty bad nights sleep due to the noise but this was to be expected so I accepted that. I wouldnā€™t stay here again. Go to Brisbane Quarters.

Canā€™t beat that hostel in any criteria. Price, location, view and vibes. City backpacker has it all. The hostel has free gated parking in which they try to accommodate everyone. 5 washing machines/dryers and clothing lines. Has a movie room, pool table, ping pong table and a pool! Lots of outdoor seating to socialize, work or chill in the hammock. They try to keep groups together and to not overcrowd the room. I really appreciate to be placed in a dorm with my partner and not having to share it with anyone while paying $190 each for a week. Had a nice stay there.

Really lovely hostel. Staff were great. We stayed in a private room with no fan or air con, but there is a vent in the room, and it seems to bring in the cold air from the hallway which is great as our room always felt it had air con. Lovely pool, big kitchen! 20 minute walk into town. Would definitely stay again

Drove 7 hours only to find out that if you want to use the car park, which I was told was absolutely fine via phone, you have to hand over your car keys (i.e. deposit them in a locked box, which you then can't access). I also had to wait to be let out by the receptionist, which is bordering on false imprisonment. It is absolutely insane! Left me in the absolute lurch as I now have nowhere to stay, am missing a vital appointment tomorrow, and have to drive out of Brisbane in rush hour.

I and 3 of my friend stay here for 2 night. Very bad experience, arrive at reception and the staff were unappreciative.. made me a feel bad for trying to communicate! Myself and my partner arrived in Brisbane on a weeks holiday and witnessed a young aboriginal family being marginalised by the hostel reception staff (I later learnt this was the hostel owner!) Completely unacceptable and so against what Australia stands for! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Definitely the best hostel I've stayed at since I've arrived in Australia. I stayed for 8 months! One of those hostels you just don't wanna leave. The common areas are great for mingling, clean amenities and kind owners who go above and beyond. Met so many genuine kind people there, it really was just a vibe. I was in Brisbane for a short trip, stayed at City Backpackers HQ for 3 days, believe me the place is very nice, hygienic and offers lot of facilities, there is a swimming pool and snooker table and moreover it has a table tennis table as well you get lots at a bargain price , the staff is super friendly . I would recommend everyone coming to Brisbane to book this place if they are looking for a good place to stay. Cheers :)

This is one of the best hostels I have been too. The staff are incredible. They are so polite, friendly and really take care of the people living at the hostel, you feel part of the hostel family. The cleaningness of the hostel is very good as well, there have a superb chill area. Your own alcohol is allowed, which makes it possible to enjoy a beer of your own choice while socializing with the others. The location is also great, in the same area as most of the other hostels. If I return to Brisbane, I would definitely live at City Backpackers HQ.

I wouldnā€™t give any starts to hostel that I didnā€™t have the chance to go. I tried to made a booking online without knowing the cancelation policy. The gentleman at the phone never explained that he would literally take 31.95 for a cancellation policy he never mention. I told him Iā€™m sick with COVID and he literally stole the money using my card details when I explained him that I Canā€™t go to a hostel. Absolutely ridiculous. Donā€™t go to a hostel like this!!! Horrible experience and I havenā€™t been there šŸ¤¦šŸ¤¦šŸ¤¦

My sister and I stayed here for 2 nights this weekend gone. Checked in Friday, 12noon and checked out Sunday 10am. $10 dep for room key card that you get back upon check out. We had a landcruiser with roof rack that we parked up under which you access from the street behind. Limited spaces and no bookings. Case of first in first served. You cannot remove your vehicle between 4.30pm and 7.30am. I parked up Friday 12 and didn't take it out til check out Sunday 10am but had to wait half an hour for another resident to come move their vehicle out for me to get out. We walked and caught public transport during our stay. We booked a private room that came with our own bathroom, toilet 2 extra lou rolls, wash basin, mirror, shower, bath mat and two towels. A soap dispenser on the wall and shower caddy. There are no other toiletries (hand soap, shampoo, conditioner so make sure to either bring your own or purchase some from the supermarket (coles) which is a short walk, approx. 120m from backpackers. Our room was made up of a double bed and a single bed, both fitted with linen, pillows (4 on dbl bed, 2 on single bed). Air con with remote but we had no use for it. A bar fridge with an ice box/freezer that kept food frozen good. A rubbish bin. A bedside table with single draw and lamp. A TV, remote but had no use for it. We watched stuff on our mobiles and laptop using the free WiFi. Wifi can be accessed throughout entire backpackers. It did lag at times but it was a busy weekend. The kitchen could have been looked after better by all those using it. The fridge and storage cupboards were pretty full from everyone's use. Some free stuff for anyone to use if needed. Enjoyed the balcony and chill out areas, the pool I used and enjoyed at night all to myself. Lounges, tables, chairs, hammocks. The city views at night are really nice. A pool table, lounge with TV, couches and massive cushion. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would stay in the private room with own bathroom again. Definitely try them out. Good way to meet people from all walks of life. Close to public transport, food options, supermarket and activities.

City backpackers HQ have been brilliant in assisting us with getting going in Aus. Rebecca has been fantastic in every way. This is undoubtedly the best hostel in Brisbane, the location is perfect and the atmosphere is great. If you fancy alone time or social time, city backpackers has the space. The views are unreal and we have been back multiple times. The kitchen is the best we've experienced in Aus however some utensils could do with updating! We will visit again on our way down for sure. Make sure you catch sunrise if you're jet lagged, best place in the city to watch it other than up mount coot-tha.

A very big hostel with a lot of people. If you want peace and quiet, its not your jam. If you wanna make friends, this is the place! Everything was decently clean and the staff was especially kind and hard working. Location isnt great but close enough.

The best backpackers that I have ever stayed in! The owners are so kind, always helping in ways that they can and just a great vibe in general :) Rooms and bathrooms cleaned everyday. Rooftop swimming pool. And a shout out to Debbie on front deskšŸ’« always ready to make your stay more comfortable with a smile.

City backpackers HQ is one of my favourite hostels. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean, the kitchen is fully stocked and there is a big social area and tv room. The staff are all so kind and chatty, and will help you in any way they can! Recommend this hostel to anyone looking to stay in Brisbane, short or long term.

The staff were really patient and helpful. Fun hostel with good vibes and clean beds! I would stay again.

Staff were friendly and rooms were clean and comfy. Kitchen and common areas were nasty. Pots, pans and pasta piled in the sinks. People stealing food left right and centre. Grow up.

Honestly one of the worst places Iā€™ve stayed. The smell inside my hostel building (rooms 30-40) was absolutely disgusting. There was a horrible smell of feet and body odour that just wouldnā€™t go away. It was clear people were living in the hostel full time and I understand youā€™re in a hostel and itā€™s not going to be a 5 star hotel, but there should be a strict rule about personal hygiene. And when we took our bed sheets off the bed on the last day I noticed horrible stains all over the mattress, so disgusting. Also there was no cutlery/plates/bowls whatsoever, we had to buy all this from reception which is an absolute joke. I stayed in YHA Brisbane hostel previous to this hostel which is two doors down and it was 1,000 times cleaner, the standardisation smell was much higher. Very disappointed.

Very big hostel - A lot long term stayers, which makes it harder to connect because they are a group and want to stay to themselves - Dorms mostly occupied by long term stayers, so hard to find space + Bathrooms clean. - kitchen Chaos. Cuttlery rare + outside area nice with hammocks and small pool Hostel okay but Would recommend other hostel

Stayed in a 8share located in the basement next to the car parkā€¦ My room was excepted for me filled with workers that seem to live there. They occupied most of the space for their stuff. The website says that this hostel is for genuine international travelers only- but thatā€™s a lie. You have to ask at the reception to get cutlery?! Storage in the kitchen is also occupied by all the long term stays. They store loads of food there. I survived my stay but i wouldnā€™t go there again.

Reception is fairly helpful for assisting people most of the time. Social facilities like a swimming pool, lodge room, library, etc are always kept clean by cleaners. But the kitchen may need some attention.

Pros: Gives you a place to sleep Nice common areas Cons: The staff are absolutely atrocious. They are inconsiderate and unhelpful and the one (I think Spanish) girl at the front was either drunk and harassing everyone or making demeaning side comments behind the desk. Frankly it was insufferable to deal with them. A few people long term, I got placed in a room that someone was clearly living in but thankfully they did move me upon request. Kind of far from the city Roaches in the bathroom I stayed for only two nights and I definitely would not do more than that

If that is what staying in a backpackers is like, that will be my only stay in one! Never again! The experience is memorable for all the wrong reasons. I understand that itā€™s basic accommodation, however for the $$ spent - approx $170 for one night purely for sleeping purposes. I didnā€™t use any of the common areas, pool etc and didnā€™t get any sleep! Maybe an hour if I was lucky. I may as well have been sleeping in the damn amenities, the room directly opposite them, constant toilets flushing, showers, no paper towel so everyone was using the bloody hand dryer. The room was very musty and sticky carpet flooring (dared not to even take my shoes off) All the loud talking (even though rules state not to anywhere near rooms) and doors opening closing both cubicle and otherwise until at least 4am, then someoneā€™s song alarm came on at 5am and left it on, then the cleaner came at 8am right in front of my door cleaning, vacuuming etc closing the amenities to cleaning so that I couldnā€™t even use them in the morning at 9am along side others I heard also needing to use them and being turned away. For the $$ to be sleep deprived is not cool. Curtains donā€™t cover the windows either so light comes straight in. The only upsides are the location and the friendly reception staff.

Everything was all good until the last night. The male manager was shocking, he didnā€™t knock and barged in, he became very defensive and was asking personal questions about peopleā€™s intimate life in the room. He then started to make accusations about people. When he left he kept on peering into the room and was very strange. All the staff were very pleasant apart from him.
