There is incentive to give reviews for more WiFi, but as I have my own plan, and I’ve already left, my short review is my own opinion. This was my first experience ever in a hostel. I arrived in Brisbane and checked in all in the same day (I had a reservation). I only stayed 2 nights but it’s a great place to stay. My roommates were very friendly and respected my privacy and stuff. The bed was comfortable with guaranteed clean sheets. They’re really good about keeping things quiet after 10/11pm. Free breakfast every morning is a treat. The showers, bathrooms, and kitchen are cleaned daily (I’m a witness!). I had a checkout time outside front desk hours, and they were able to assist me with it no problem. Excellent English, friendly attitudes, and they even sell beer. It’s close to the city. About 15 minute walk to King George Square (good place to shop and eat). 10 minutes to the transit center by walk. Will keep in mind for future Brisbane adventures.

I had to take my teenage daughter up to Brisbane for surgery & had to stay an extra night, unexpectedly, due to public transportation departure times. I had my 2 yr old with us & needed a place to rest for 15 hrs, before our train. They were friendly & helpful on the phone, affordable & on google- Looked like it was walking distance to Roma St transit centre. I booked it immediately & began walking in the heat, googles maps redirected us 4 times. We got lost & when we finally found it, dripping in sweat, ready to drop our luggage & lay my toddler down - We were denied our room, because my toddler & teenager didn't have photo identification. Despite pleading with the service attendant, he was apathetic & had no intention of giving us the room, no matter how many other forms of ID I provided. He said that normally people have passports for their children & that we were free to leave. We are Australian citizens that have never left the country & have never needed a passport. We were treated like criminals ! I've never been treated with such hostility over my children, in any other venue, in Australia. That speaks volumes. I'm forced to give this place a star, but really, with the way we were treated upon arrival - I wouldn't even give it 1 star.

Highly recommend this hostel for its relaxed atmosphere and comfortable chill out spaces where it is easy to meet other people over dinner. Location is really good. Only 5mns walk to the station and around 15 walk to the city. Facilities are clean and spacious and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Toilets and shower also very clean. I definitely recommend this place.

I have a mixed opinion. My bed was very comfortable, the mattress, the sheet and the blanket were very comfortable and clean. The noise insulation was good, and there were good air-conditioning and fans. The lockers were outstanding, the best I saw so far. However, I didn't find any plug near my bed, and most of other plugs were used. And I didn't find any good space to work on my computer. The dining area and the kitchen were Ok. However, I found the sanitaries inconvenient. First, I couldn't find any handle to put my clothes or other stuffs (except in the bathroom near the reception). Second, I have to wait several time to find a bathroom available because people have to lock the entire space (shower+toilet) when they are taking a shower. +: friendly staff, near a supermarket (Coles), not too far from the central train station, very convenient lockers (one of the best I saw so far), clean and confortable bed (mattress, sheet and blanket), good air-conditioning and fans, good noise insulation. -: quite far from the city center, kitchen a bit small, no plug near every beds, have to make the bed at arrival, no good space for reading or working on a computer, no handle in the sanitaries, not enough bathroom available.

The cleaning is catastrophic (3 people to manage 20 rooms it's not complicated if?). It has only just reopened but they are increasing prices by 12.5% already, the vacuum cleaner went to 7 a.m. The terrace is closed from 10:30 p.m., so we have to divide in our rooms from 10:30 p.m. I've been there for a few weeks and I have the impression that the hostel is already deteriorating! We should think about cleaning the rooms properly, there are tissues lying on the floor, under the bed but they are never picked up, do you want us to do your job for example??

Banana Benders has become my home away from home. I have had the pleasure of staying at this hostel for the past 2 months and have nothing but great things to say about this place. The hostel is clean, the beds are comfy, the people who come to stay are genuine and kind, and the staff are amazing. Throughout my two month stay, I have had absolutely no issues and can attest that the staff are very receptive when it comes to feedback. I have made many wonderful friends in this hostel and will continue to come here whenever I decide to come to Brisbane.

Is a backpackers...so I shouldn't complain too much. People are nice, staff is your typical working holiday type. The room smelled like stinky feet, needed to be swept. The bed pillow was the flattest pillow ever. The bed mattress was really old, probably over 10 years. They lock the kitchen at night, so if you want to wake up early and eat the breakfast which you put in the fridge...no can do! Pretty inconvenient I think. Two stars because i bet backpacker places can be worse... And I shouldn't expect much in the first place. They should just do some maintenance around the place (like the pillows and beds).

Watch out, don't stay here! there's a korean male server with an extremely bad attitude, I can understand those labours from the uneducated community but this is definitely not how a hostel staff should behaviour.

Considering the price, I would say that this place is decent overall. The building is old but has a bit of charm, and the communal living areas are nice. My dorm room was clean and tidy, but there were limited power points and holes in the fly screen, which could be a problem in summer. The kitchen is okay but quite small. I like the system they have in place where every guest is provided with their own crockery and utensils which they are responsible for. The bathrooms were disappointing – very dated and quite dirty. Some guests also left used towels and toiletries lying around for several days, which I think should be discouraged. Staff were super friendly and tried their best to be helpful but on the couple of occasions when I requested something from them, I had to chase them up about this. The hostel is well located near cafés, restaurants and shops, and is only about a ten minute walk to Roma Street Station. Overall, I would consider staying again but would like to see improved cleanliness – particularly in the bathrooms.

Loved it here!!! Staff is more than friendly and it’s pretty chill in general. I checked in after my 15 hours bus drive and I felt so welcome from the first second on. Rooms and Bathrooms are clean as well. I had a very good stop here and in the end I’m glad that I booked this one!!

The place is overpriced filth. The two bathrooms are disgusting and uncleaned with water and dirt all over the floor, beer bottles in the bin and gross showerfloors. The rooms are incredibly tiny so it's hard to fit in much more than a small backpack. You're not allowed to eat or store any food or drinks in the rooms so you'll have to make use of what is possibly the most disgusting kitchen in all of Brisbane. On a plus side, if you can stomach the stench, your food prepared there will have extra protein from all the flies that land in it. The only good thing about the property is the location, which is close to some shops and Suncorp stadium. Even though it's located near a road, you most likely won't hear too many loud cars over the sound of people vomiting in the bathrooms at night.

I am so happy to hear that there is new management now . We stayed there about 3 years ago from the Gold Coast as we were homeless. Myself 52 and my 2 daughters 23 and 27. One with Down Syndrome. . The bathrooms and toilets stunk and were Discusting ! The showers were revolving and probably spread foot disease 😡😡😡 The room was nothing exciting , it was somewhere to sleep. Like I said , I am so Happy to hear that there is new management. GOOD LUCK TO THE NEW MANAGEMENT 💯👍😃

This place is in a fabulous spot surrounded by trees to give you those homely feels.... now don't think for one minute that it in the sticks this place is in the city with pubs, clubs and a boutique shopping hub called "The Barracks". Transport on your door step easy to get out and about to enjoy what Brisbane City has to offer. The staff are great and very attentive. It has laundry facilities, tv room with books if you prefer. Each room has air conditioning with is essential and they are are conditioner that you can control to get the perfect temperature to suit you.

I came here back in 2014 and it's what I'll say as so so as an experience here...While it is on the main road of Roma Street(?!) "Don't remember anymore" , the area can be quite secluded and it can be a fair walk to the main train station. The backer packer does have a snooker room that's pretty poorly lit and the rooms are non smoking as well (boo!!). It's barely adequate I'll say and I won't return but with this pandemic of 2020, I'm not going anywhere nor will I waste my money either!!!

Banana backpacker is probably the worst hostel I've been to on my many travels. The hostel is unkempt, and the rooms and common areas are filthy. I wanted to check in at 9pm, but the reception only opens until 8pm. They couldn't find a solution to my problem and charged me for an extra night, which I was unable to enjoy. Another major problem is that many people from outside the hostel come to party, drink and do drugs in the hostel (even though it's clearly forbidden to do so). All this makes it hard to sleep until 6 a.m. and creates an extremely bizarre atmosphere.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom room and it was comfortable. The view from the sitting area was pretty. Thank you Ely, you were very helpful.

One of the nicest hostels I've been so far. Would recommend if you're looking for a more relaxed vibe rather than a party type hostel. The staff is friendly, located in close proximity to the city (around 15 mins by walk, bus stop also nearby), and the room and bathroom is clean. The area is quiet, at least during my stay. They also offer a small complimentary breakfast, which was also nice of them. Really enjoyed my stay here.

A kennel is alot hygienic and druggo free than this and why don't the staff understand English and what it means to repay rent when you're ahead of rent and still refuse to repay it

I just had an amazing experience after 7 days at Bananas. It's clean, all brand new and close to the city. Julia and Ben are just adorable people.

A Pleasant Stay with Room for Improvement I recently had the pleasure of staying at Banana Backpackers. Overall, I had a pleasant experience, but there were a few aspects that left me somewhat dissatisfied. Let's start with the positives. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They were always ready to offer help and service regarding my stay. The common areas were fine and well-maintained, providing an excellent atmosphere to meet people, but also be able to relax as it was calm/relaxed from time to time. The hostel's location is pretty good, as it allowed easy access to public transportation. However, I do have some concerns that need to be addressed. Firstly, the lack of hand soap in the toilets was rather inconvenient and concerning from a hygiene standpoint. Unfortunately, it seems like theft of handsoaps have been a problem for them. (maybe try install handsoap dispensers or something?) Another issue I encountered was the scarcity of electrical plugs in the dorm room (2plugs underneath the other bunk bed). I heard that they were going to fix that soon. They'd already asked for an electrician. Lastly, the cleanliness of the bedroom floor left much to be desired. The biggest problem with the floor was going under the bed to get your phone/laptop charged since you'd be covered in dust/dirt. Despite these concerns, I must reiterate that my overall experience at Banana Backpackers was positive, largely due to the hospitable staff, lively atmosphere, convenient location and prices. By addressing the issues mentioned above, I believe this hostel has the potential to become an even more outstanding accommodation choice for travelers visiting Brisbane.

Please do not rent a room to Collin Scribner. He does not pay rent. He gives most of his money to some druggies and then doesn't have enough money for rent. All his other properties are left with holes in the walls and a mess in the house and yard. He owes over 10 thousand dollars in rent to a person who rented him a house in Kingston Loan Queensland. The owner has to pay over 15 thousand dollars to make sure the property is liveable. Just thought I'd let you know. Cheers from Shiralee Elliott

Amazing hostel. Staff are friendly and very helpful with the local area. The rooms are recently refurbished so it’s all clean and welcoming. The beds are comfy with there thick mattresses. The hostel has a very social vibe which is perfect for solo travelling.
