Booking here for 3 nights was clearly a mistake. Yeah, the price is cheap but please do yourself a favor and book somewhere else because the whole place is really disgusting. Everything is very dirty with cigarette butts and bottle tops everywhere. Bins bags were not changed during my whole stay. The smell of the bathrooms and showers is horrible. Beds are dangerously old and rickety. I would dare to say that there are “homeless” people living there, some of the people were not travelers for sure and looked very scruffy. Avoid at all costs!!!!!! Don’t be tricked by the price as I did.

Booking here was a mistake... The whole place is really disgusting. There are cigarette butts and bottle tops everywhere, and a variety of bad smells. Beds are dangerously old and rickety. The manager grumbled at us because we were 4 minutes early to check in, which was at 7pm. Cow, the cat, was possibly the best thing about being there for all of 14hrs until we could move on to a different hostel (we'd originally booked for two nights).

Please note that the location of this hostel is opposite Brisbane Backpacker Resort. I guess a lot of people mistake it as the Brisbane Backpackers resort. I did that too so yeah, trying to clarify here. You can follow my picture as I have shot the front door. The hostel is not a party house. If you are looking for somewhere to party this isn't your place. It's a quiet and peaceful hostel. The kitchen is a bit... Not my type. But it ain't so bad if you just cook for a simple meal or some dinner. I won't do a big project here, too many people. What's great about this hostel is that it is the cheapest I can get around the Brisbane area. I don't think you can find anywhere cheaper than here. Correct me if I'm wrong as I want to find a cheaper hostel too. Room just... Yeah it's a hostel and it is cheap. So I can't complain so much. Overall if you are looking for a stay and you want to save some money. This is the perfect place for you.

I don't like to give a bad review but this is possibly the worst hostel I've ever stayed in. It's cheap and the staff were very nice but that's about it. The place is so dirty! You have to make your own bed with sheets that really did smell like feet. Lots of long termers in there so you feel like youre invading their room a bit. The room was dirty and smelly even with the windows wide open and stuff all over the place. There's no indoor stair case so you have to exit the building in order to get upstairs. The kitchen is small and dirty and the only common area is a table which is basically in front of the reception desk. The toilets and showers were horrible. There's only one sink in one of the two showers. Dark, dingy and dirty. This place needs at the least a deep clean and at the most a complete renovation.

Big thanks to Church and Barbara for helping me when I was unwell. You guys are wonderful people! This hostel is a home away from home! I felt so comfortable and safe that I didn't want to leave. Perfect location, spotless clean, my bed was super comfy, the shower worked perfectly every time for long hot showers, the kitchen is fully equipped, there is plenty of space for storage, it's super safe... I also loved the little garden at the front and the cat - she's the cutest! I can't recommend this hostel enough! ❤️

The staff may be mentally ill. When I wanted to microwave food at night when I was hungry, I was scolded by a staff member. She didn't even explain the reason why I couldn't use it or make faces at me, which was very naive. If you are looking for a cheaper and better experience, it is recommended to be on the opposite side or nearby. The facilities here are also dirty and disgusting, and WiFi cannot be used.

DISGUSTING. This must be the most disgusting place I ever stayed in, I arrived there late and wasn't able to book another hostel that same night, the following day I talked to the manager and complaint about how dirty everything was, he moved me to a smaller room and I honestly agreed because there was nothing else available nearby and it was only one more night, but seriously don't stay here. More than a hostel it's like a long term stay for foreign workers, most of them don't speak English and it's not a good place to meet other travelers. Showers were disgusting, toilets and sinks were disgusting, the kitchen was disgusting, absolutely everything was disgusting. OMG the sheets! The beds and the smell of the rooms.

Perfect accommodation away from home. It feels more like a house (with roommates 😀) than a hostel. Clean, affordable and a good location close to amenities. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. The first hostel where I’ve stayed in that have “female space” (entire building dedicated to women) I mean, it’s an amazing place. Have stayed 2months longer than I first booked. Will highly recommend this hostel to any traveler visiting Brisbane.

I had really low expectations and was surprised, it's not that dirty at all, depends on the people staying there, so I would say typical hostel problems with sometimes very full fridges, cleanliness, etc unfortunately no soap

Ok experience... Turned up at 12AM due to flight landing late at night. Receptionist was pretty rude and asked me to pay a late check in fee. I disputed this request due to the lack of information on my booking that may say something about a late check in fee. Eventually he agreed and I went to stay in my room. The beds were very squeeky, and uncomfortable. The overall vibe of the hostel wasn't particularly social. The kitchen was pretty decent. In my opinion, if you can afford to stay at Brisbane Backpackers Resort (BBR) which is just across the road, I would stay there in stead.

Anyone who cares about hygiene, professionalism and treatment with basic human dignity and respect should steer clear of this place. Made a booking months in advance, yet upon arrival, waited half an hour in a dirty reception room for manager Bruce to actually come to the reception area, then was told by him in an angry tone " I'm very busy can you come back later"! I had just arrived from the airport, was very tired. Despite this, I wondered around Brisbane for the whole day. Returned to find the man absent. Really disgusting behaviour, even being as cheap as it is, I'd never ever consider this place again.

I stayed for two weeks and was sad to leave. The value here is outstanding; facilities are kept cleaner than anywhere else I've stayed and the staff are lovely. Most of our kitchen appliances were brand new, and the beds were very comfortable. There are rules that keep the place running fairly and the owner is very patient and polite about them. Most people work so there was no noise issues. There is a lot of love put into making this a good place to stay or live and I felt genuinely looked after. Thank you to the fantastic team, you do an amazing job and i will definitely be back :)

Stayed here a couple times now just because it’s cheap but it’s cheap for reasons. Good location tho with a bus stop right outside and a little car park round the back. The bathrooms are carpeted with hair and smell funky and have to grab a taxi to the nearest plug socket in the rooms. Some lockers in the rooms could be helpful to.

I stayed 4 months in this hostel and I found the family to be very welcoming, always available for all types of things. This is a very good hostel that you should know.

The hostel was and is my home in Australia. It's not perfect but the people and those who work there make you feel very comfortable. Very nice friendships are generated and I highly recommend it. It is not a party hostel, there are many people who stay for a long time and it is very relaxed, but at the same time it has a beautiful patio where environments for sharing are created. Church is always attentive and is the soul of the hostel.

Pros: Resonable value. Quiet kitchen even though it's small, which was nice. Good location near shops in West end or 10 min walk to Southbank. Cons: Place needs a touch-up, has a few broken windows, toilets, doors, etc, and a good coat of paint. Rooms need a good rip through as there was rubbish and belongings left behind. Also, the older gentleman that works there does get a bit annoying watching over you. He twice claimed that I didn't wash up after me, but when looking at the cameras together, it turns out he was mistaken. Overall good for backpackers looking to find their feet as one of the cheapest places around 🤘🏻

In term of price, this hostel is comparably cheap in all backpackers in Brisbane. Living experience is really like living in a family environment. I got nick named by its manager Lang Chen as Big Brother because I lived there for quite a long period each time.

I booked this hostel due to the location and the recent reviews... IT WAS A MISTAKE. Upon check in the staff was rude and unfriendly, if I had realised I had not paid for it yet I would of went somewhere else. The way the hostel was upon entry was that bad. Upon checkin the guy was very pushy and the ‘rules’ are crazy. The wifi did not work while we were there. The sleeping: the mattresses are typical hostel and hard, however they are yellow. The pillows are stained and the blankets were so gross we did not use them. The room itself looked like it hadn’t been cleaned, ever. The bathrooms: RUN!! The mild that is around the floors, up the walls and on the wooden door to the bathroom makes you feel dirtier then when you went in. The entire time we were there, they were not cleaned once. It is a shame because they look like they have been redone but it is crazy. Besides the cleanliness, which is horrible and quite frankly gross and none existent, the noise is loud. With all the rules you’d expect them to enforce the quiet times which they don’t. Go across the street for cheaper and a MUCH BETTER experience. DO NOT GO HERE.

Durty spaces, small rooms, smells bad, they don't have any control in administration, Check in and check out. Just a really bad experience in my trip.

Good place to sleep no problems with noise, but toilets n showers were very dirty. There's only 9 car spots to park out the back so get in early

Came to check in and reception wasn’t open even during the open hours. The whole place smells damp and musty. The guy who check us in stank aswell. Kitchens don’t look hygienic enough to stand in let alone cook in. Toilets and showers are a bit cleaner but still not pleasant. The mattress, duvet and pillows were completely yellow and stained, it’s not that hard to buy new bedding once in a while! The place is just a general mess, needs a good clear out of the junk everywhere and a paint. Few good points is there is free parking and although the guy who checked us in stank he was nice enough to talk to. Bed is comfy enough and there is minimal noise from others after the specified time.

    - Enough charging ports by bedside - Good to have air conditioners - Fingers crossed that nobody in my room smokes - Only have a mirror in one of the upper floor toilets - Dirty corridors, esp the floor - On the second last morning, I saw three ants on my bed and discovered they're coming from the window. I immediately poured water around by the window plus killed them by my fingers. It's so disgusting, horrible and filthy. When I looked around, I also saw a cockroach on another vacant bed. OMG! - Also, the light in the bathroom was off suddenly for 2 consecutive nights. Even waving arms to alert the detection, no reaction! I needa reach my arm out to switch it on again! - I struggle to live one more night here

A quiete and relaxed place with a friendly atmosphere. High level of safety. Staff always available for any need or concerns. Without a car, the location on Gonow is perfect! I was walking or biking everywhere in the city. The rooms are comfy and clean. I had everything I wanted. I found, here, a home.

Best hostel in Brisbane! Good location, nice staff and good price. Very close to South Bank Station, Gonow is a quiet hostel. It is the best place to stay if you are looking for a cheap and cozy bedroom. I stayed for 5 months and the staff became my family. The recepcionist is a cowboy :)
