Would not recommend wasting your hard earned money here. Rude older lady took our order very begrudgingly; felt like we were an inconvenience and that she didn’t want us in her cafe. We only stayed due to wanting something to eat quickly before the show started at QPAC otherwise we would have left mid order and found somewhere else worthy of our money

I was getting my coffee & some guy was getting his order made. The lady making coffees said zero words to him when she finished his order. She then just stared at me as if to indicate its my turn to order. I asked for a coffee and then asked how her mornings been. "Good." She replied. No words spoken to me after that. Only come here if you want to be treated like trash that doesn't deserve being spoken to, or even greeted. I gave the place 2 stars instead of 1 because the coffee was pretty good - all things considered haha. :)

Nice and great food, a variety of cabinet food you can choose too. The old lady taking the orders at the counter still writing orders and notes in paper, no decent machine, which slows down orders. Also she needs to smile often and be more welcoming. Wondering why this cafe has a poor rating considering it is beside the university and busy area. Otherwise, food is prepared fresh and nicely by the chef.

I’m glad I didn’t read the reviews until after we had ordered. We really enjoyed our bacon and egg brekkies. I had perfectly poached eggs and my husband had scrambled which he said were delicious. We both loved having fruit as an extra. The cafe owners were both friendly and the service was fast. I was surprised about the comments about the “older lady”. I found her reserved but friendly. It was a hot morning and this cafe is under cover and a fantastic breeze was blowing. Plenty of cyclists had their brekkie here - always a good sign. So give it a try and be friendly and pleasant and I’m sure you’ll feel the love back in spades.

The old lady serving shouldn't be there, she is working in the wrong Field, if she is working in customer service her rudeness and arrogant attitude has to change. she seems stressed, angry and put her frustration on the customers. I paid $30 dollars for a nice breakfast and experience, I only got the breakfast with the worst experience ever. I was struggling to make a decision on what to order and was asking for her opinion on the menu, but she came off as if I was bothering and wasting her time. Please don't go there, go somewhere they are going to appreciate your presence.

Don't eat here. I would leave 0 stars if possible. Very rude lady serving at the counter, she wanted cash but then didn't have change, couldn't order lactose free iced coffee as apparently they are pre made, so asked for one anyhow to be told they had run out, long wait, cold food, disgusting. Family couldn't eat it. How hard is it to get toasted ham and cheese croissants and bacon and eggs right? Apparently they could only serve scrambled eggs, not fried egg. Worst experience, from rudest owner ever. We also watched her chastising and abusing her staff. Ruined our visit to southbank.

The service was quick and delicious. The vegetarian sandwich was the most delicious sandwich there, especially with the roasted well seasoned vegetables that they add to it. Would recommend. The prices and portion sizes are fantastic. The chicken sandwich is also simple but deliciously made. I'd definitely recommend checking this place out for a simple, yet cheap eat in a convenient location in south bank.

Nice and quiet, friendly and efficient but most of all yummy as F food! We chose those place because of their DiPacci coffee (which is a Sydney fav our ours) and then saw the salads in their display shelves and were sold. The chicken linguine salad was super tasty has just the right amount. Scrambled eggs with smoked Salman n was also made very well with the accompanying beans being the star of the dish. Check this place out if you want somewhere a tad quieter to sit but with good food and friendly ladies to serve.

Simply good 😊 We have lunch at Blue basement cafe nearly Everytime we come to southbank parkland. We tried many fancy one on grey street and found most of them are expensive but the food isn’t too impressive. I guess those are for tourists mainly, and blue basement cafe keep its reasonable price and its good quality. I love their salad, it always come with fresh fruits. Everything is great quality with reasonable portion and price. I noticed some reviews here about the rude old lady, yes she has been here forever, and always dosent look too friendly. The first time I came I have the same feeling that she is rude to me, but after coming more, I found she is same to anybody. I guess shes just a not very sociable person. I still come back all the time for the food, bcoz i cant find any cafe with same quality and price nearby. Those shop near the swimming pool is basically junk food, and grey st those got few are good for dinner but not quite for light brekkie and lunch.

When I come to a cafe, I expect to be served in the order of the line so we were patiently waiting. Unfortunately we were pushed a head of by two people by who I was told was the owner. And who I was told was the owners wife said nothing as I looked to her giving her a sign of opportunity to rectify the absolute rudeness from the gentleman. Sadly the coffee is not the best. Its drinkable - and what a great space they have here next to the Griffith University. To the students next door: There are much better coffee providers but I understand convenience is key when it comes to getting a caffeine fix. But listen to your own inner critic Don't fool yourselves - with what seems like absolutely no staff retention and the mannerisms of the instability of their customer service ethics, do yourself a favor by doing better. This sign says one of Brisbane's best cafes. It's also false and misleading advertising - don't been fooled this sign, it couldn't be further from the truth.

Exceptional value for a high quality breakfast. Most underrated venue for a meal in the South bank

Wasn’t overly busy but they operate at a snails pace. How cafes can operate without a fast coffee service is beyond me. They were like making one coffee at a time, not thinking ahead. I had 4 coffees in front of me and waited 20 minutes. That was after I even asked how long coffee would be approximately because I needed to get somewhere, to which I was told “not too long”. We must have different definitions of long. All of that can be forgiven with a friendly smile or thanks for coming but sadly I got neither. My son does young con every week so you’ve got amazing potential for repeat customers and you’re stuffing it. I don’t work in retail, but have worked in service roles in the past. I’m happy to come and devote an hour free of charge one week to show you what great customer service is. Put me on the till and I’ll rack up some sales and repeat customers for you. The solution: smile, be happy and thank all customers genuinely.

The behavior of the elderly lady at the counter needs to be addressed. She has been walking up to customers' tables and yelling at them, including myself, to collect their orders at the counter. Her impatience and rudeness are unacceptable. Customers should consider going somewhere else where they can receive better service from polite and caring staff. I noticed that the young waitress appears to be intimidated and afraid, which is unfortunate because she seems like a kind and wonderful person.

Same experience as everyone else, I should have checked before I ordered. The Cafe is in a great location, and I'd say it only gets business because it's better neighbours are busy. The owner / older woman behind the counter is very rude. I stood there for several minutes while she ignored me. I ordered and she repeated an incorrect order like she wasn't listening. I dined in and got a takeaway cup "because they were busy" (they weren't, unless 5 customers is busy). Given how few people are here, I have no idea why scrambled eggs on toast has taken more than 20 minutes. When it arrived it was a single tiny piece of toast and a bunch of random sides like orange and pear. Somehow the eggs were cold too. My coffee wasn't full either 🤣 The waitresses were very friendly and are the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. Honestly, avoid this place. There are so many better options in southbank. I will never come here again.

Don’t give this cafe your business. Nice food, if overpriced. The owner, however….the whole time I waited for my food he was berating his staff. Complaining constantly and repeating himself over and over. It was extremely awkward. In spite of 4 people on staff at the time and only two other customers it took 15 minutes to toast a pre-made sandwich and put it in a box.

My wife and I had a "toasted chicken turkish" and my son had a "plate of fruit" and it was very delicious. The only criticism I can give was the seating filled instantly and not many were left but that should not deter anyone from trying this place out. The atmosphere was lovely, the service was friendly and quick, and the food was delicious. I'll visit this place whenever I am in South Bank again.

An old rude lady served us refused to give us the receipt. Also she took the pillows under my children and my mum saying that they belong to the sofa and not the chair. There was another 10 pillows avaiable. Food was ok however she should learn to be kind.

Meh. The few tables there had reservation signs on with no one all the while we were there. The coffee was average along with the other ordered items. It has so much potential being a little secluded from the hustle and bustle of South Bank but at this point in time, there are better alternatives.

Great coffee. Great meal. Food fresh and tasty. Service very friendly and made sure we were happy with everything. Can understand why so many people go there.

Honestly this place is hit and miss. The service is usually great and friendly. The food is usually good. The menu has a great range and they do a really good coffee. There are times when the service is a bit slow so it’s not ideal for a short break. Better for a sit down and chat.

Great breakfast to start the day in a lovely peaceful spot. Eggs were perfect and the fruit delicious.

Same comment as many others. Old lady at the counter, most likely owner, is super rude and discriminating. Completely disregarded me waiting to place my order at the counter. Too engrossed chatting to her mate. Then was super short and snarky to another customer, who was possibly a tourist with limited English. Businesses like these should not be supported. If you can’t bothered to serve and take care of your customers, don’t run a business.

Had a weird experience trying to order an iced chai, and got told they don't do iced ones as they're only available hot. Someone else asked for iced coffees but they could only do iced lattes. Went over to a packed Nodo around the corner to get my drink instead, and came back still waiting for 1 coffee (it took over 15 minutes to order and get a drink) when the place was only less than half full

The gentleman or should I say the man not gentle at all. He became very aggressive when I asked for my clients meal a garden salad to have it with chicken. As the prepared chicken salad had dairy andgluten which my client would be ill from. He yelled from the kitchen it's not alacarte and you get what I put in the cabinet. Clearly having a bad day. Then he proceeded to berate me. I was shocked by this as was my client, When I tried to explain That it was a dirty request. Hey pretty much turned his back on me and kept berating me. As I'd already paid an order for my meal, And I was trying to not allow the situation to ruin my client's day. We stayed for lunch which was basically cut up fruit Lettuce and avocado on a plate that I paid $25 for. The avocado was delicious but I could have gone and bought one myself and cut it up and put it on a plate. So personally not recommending this cafe to anyone especially if you have dietary requirements.

It's a shame that a coffee shop so close to a university is obviously opposed to students (I'm matured aged so not an age thing). Ordered a latte whilst I studied waiting for family members, and invited other people to sit at the table with me who needed a table as I was alone. I was ordered to move on after 25 minutes - my latte was not even finished (which was obvious as it was in a glass I had 1/4 of cup left). Was actually about to order food for myself and my family who were soon to arrive (5 of us) but guess what, won't be going back!
