One of the most amazing experiences I have ever had!!! Being at home and wanting a bit of seafood, this is the place! Rochelle and Jannie (hosts and owners) are absolutely amazing and so friendly! The food is so traditional and well prepared! This feeling of eating traditional food and having a comfortable adventure where you can enjoy a great day!!! After reading te previous review, I have no idea where the guy ate, but obviously no authentic SA feeling is in their blood!

Well done De Vette Mossel staff and chefs. Though things changed from last year, the vibe, taste and food quality are still of a world class standard. Why 5 stars? * Food quality and presentation - 5 stars * Ambiance - 5 stars * Sea food - 5 stars * Child friendly - 5 stars * Weskus experience - 5 stars Things to improve on: * NOT Wheelchair friendly. * We missed the โ€œoldโ€ announcer. * No ablution facilities on ground level. * Entrance to parking area not ideal for low vehicles.

Awesome Vibe. Great FOOD... Makes you feel right at home. I will definitely go again. Eating from paper plates... Using Mussel shell's as forks. A definately MUST go. I enjoyed all the food ESPECIALLY the Snoek... Best seafood I EVER had and bathrooms and beach area is very clean.I regret not going sooner. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ Keep up the great work you guys. And Thank you for filling our tummies on Christmas day when you have your own families. ๐Ÿคถ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ„

Got a speedy response on the WhatsApp booking number where an sms was then sent with payment link. On arrival at the venue, booking is confirmed and a table is allocated. The place is good for big groups as there's plenty long tables. If you've been to Die Strandloper, you'll notice the inspiration but it's not quite the same as the set up is less rustic. I personally enjoyed the starters, the mussels are as fat as the name implies. The first 7 meals are inclusive of the base price while crayfish etc come at an additional cost. Got our money's worth and more. Calm and safe environment.

R255, eat as much as you want. Old fashioned cuisine prepared in a big iron pot over good old wood fire. With beachsand everywhere its got a good seaside feel. Food was delicious and served over a space of 2 hours so make sure you budget plenty time before you come! The dishes are muscles done 2 ways, snoek, seafood stew, lamb stew, chicken stew, fruits, koeksisters and coffee for desert.

350 per person and you eat off a paper plate ! 5 people sit and 2 small bowls of mussels are served on your table which where prepared from a tin purchased from pic n pay and added more spice to the brine. No cutlery, no serviettes. You stand in a que to order drinks from a bar. No waitress or waiters to assist you. In short you pay R350 per person for the most basic of basic experiences.. and then the owner Rochell states that we are not from the western cape so we wonโ€™t understand the experience they offer.. The fish served on their make shift buffet was off.. you know when fish doesnโ€™t hold its texture when it turns to a mushy paste when you gently peel it apart.. The tables are under a make shift TIN roof.. with one fan blowing. So naturally on a hot day like today 32deg.. you bake. Not a pleasant experience.. they where quick to want to refund our money.. if you want a cheap meal served on a tin table as a โ€œbuffettโ€ with basic of basic amenities at a hefty 350 per personโ€ฆ. this is the place for you !!!

The place has a great atmosphere with sea sand between your toes and Afrikaans music playing in the background. You can bring in your own cooler box at an additional charge. The staff and management are extremely helpful and friendly. You need to dish for yourself and only the first course is served at the table. Eating with only the mussel shell (no cutlery, though cutlery is available) is entertaining and makes eating the dish fun. Some additional entertainment in the evening would be nice, like dancing after dinner (or a beach party). But unfortunately I was very disappointed with the food. It is not the type of food, but rather how it was prepared. I was expecting a creamy white wine sauce with the mussel pot, put it is prepared in tomato base sauce (which wasn't bad but not great either), the pot bread was really nice. I'm not sure how the snoek was prepared but is was very plain and pale in comparison of well prepared snoek I have had before. The vegetable dishes, the sweet potato and mix vegetable bake was great, but unfortunately the seafood pot (main course) could be compared to a flopped dish I prepared at home and my family had to eat it not to waste the food. There was no prawn tails in the pot and even if there were you would not be able to taste it as everything was drenched in a pink sauce that made all the seafood in the pot taste the same. The meat pot was so chewy my husband ended up just leaving it on his plate. The coffee was really good, but unfortunately the koeksisters were not the best I've had either (like buying koeksisters at Spar or Checkers). Everything considered, unfortunately I will not be back unless the food is better prepared (and the recipes change).

I absolutely loved our day at De Vette Mossel. So glad I ordered the extra crayfish and prawns! The vibe was amazing and such a 'lekker' day for a group of us. Rated 4 for the food because the apricot snoek and other sweet, Weskus food is not really what I enjoy, but for those that do, they really do serve a huge amount of food all afternoon.

What a great concept for a lunch out. Food plenty not cullinary excellence but ample and good value. Nice atmosphere and the owners are great hosts. While worth a kuier! And you can take a cooler box with your own refreshments

Starter mussels and bread were great. Snoek was quite nice. The seafood potjie and desert were nothing special. Service at the bar was very good.

I enjoyed the experience (4 star). However, I would like to have food served atleast 1 hour earlier. They only started serving at 1pm and then close at 3pm. For the number of courses being served this is too little time in between. I would like to be able to digest my food before being served more.

De Vette Mossel has a fantastic ocean vibe, layed back and relaxed. This is not a formal sit and dine venue but sea and seafood is the main attraction. With sand between the toes the venue mimics having supper in the beach. The service was great and the food was good.

a Place where they make you feel like you are at a family get together, the staff and owners are really welcoming and friendly, the food is something that needs to be experienced as it is so delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹, they make the food on the braai for you, so you can watch as they cook the food. They have decorations set up, so that you can take loads of fun pictures, and if you have kids they can enjoy playing on their jungle gyms, it's family packed fun for young and old. Me and my hubby went on our wedding anniversary during the evening and it was such a wonderful experience overall. I would recommend anyone who loves fish braai or beef potjies to make a booking at this stunning place, you won't regret it.

Food was very good. My favorite was the sweet potatoes and the seafood curry. Atmosphere was absolutely amazing. Play area also great and kid friendly with lots of things to do. Experience is like nothing I've ever been to before.

Mussels were tasty, snoek was a let down, bread was delicious, but seafood was disappointing. There was no atmosphere.

A very unique dining experience. The ambience was relaxed and one gets a sense of the sea. This seven course buffet is not for the faint-hearted as you start off with a welcome drink. After that, a generous serving of the freshest mussels and bread awaits you before the snoek and sweet potatoes and the seafood potjie with rice and vegetables hits you. You have the option to order extras and the calamari steak was amazing. Overall decor was phenomenal.

The patats and bread was devine, however the Snoek was still raw. The rest of the menu was just okay.

We were one of at least 3 groups that had a year end function on Friday at de Vette Mossel and we ate from a set menu. The food was great, enough space to sit and have an awesome day. The bar area was a bit crowded with all the guests.

As always De Vette Mossel, regardlwss of which location delivered on their promise! Brilliant atmosphere transporting you immediatly to the coast. Food impeccable! - slightly disappointed that they had no crayfish, but then again Im alway disappointed when having crayfish as they are never much more than an oversized king-prawn. The jost was brilliant btw Will definitely visit again

Not the best value for your money, courses were underwhelming, rushed and the seafood pot, felt like it consisted of frozen bags of seafood mix with a typical 1000 island sauce. The Mussels were good. The pot bread was good too. * Ambience was great * BYOB policy is a win * Salads and side dishes were mediocre At R290 per head the experience was a bit dissappointing to me.

We had a lovely time, the host and hostesses was attentive and entertaining. The food was really divine, the seafood was prepared and cooked to perfection. Definitely more than enough food for 2nds. When it rains there is place to sit underneath a roof. Enough space for parking. Really nice experience would recommend the place to anyone.

So much delicious food. Lovely experience and very friendly hosts. Seafood was delicious and prepared in such a unique way. My favourite dish was the mussels and warm "potbrood". Would highly recommend this experience.

Honestly, I expected more. I've always heard good things about De Vette Mossel. We were a small group that visited for my birthday celebration today. The food was average, and mostly just snoek and mussels. Lobster and prawns are extra. Instead of the expected R290 per person, we actually ended up spending about R450 per person because we ordered some prawns and lobster (skip the lobster there, seriously, it's an affront to seafood lovers everywhere). Given that we live in Fourways, the 45 minute drive and the price didn't justify the experience at all. The venue is less rustic, and more dilapidated. The planks of the long wooden table were so uneven we struggled to balance our wine glasses. We would have been much better off visiting a more local seafood restaurant, and honestly we would have probably gotten more bang for our buck at that price. De Vette Mossel is a restaurant that is firmly in the "now I can say I've done it once, but never again" category.
