Absolutely loved our outing! Super convenient booking online and then arriving in time for our safari drive. Would love to have been able to feed the giraffes but they were unfortunately not available. We did see them in the park though and had an interesting interaction with Zoe on the predator drive. Our guide was great! So friendly, funny and knowledgeable.

We opted for the self-drive option. Luckily, we went during the week. Would highly recommend visiting the Park in the week as I can only imagine how chaotic, busy, and frustrating it would be during the weekend and public holidays. The enclosed areas are really small, I do understand the tourist logic behind it, and it will 100% ensure the tourist sees all the animals in the enclosed areas. Keep in mind that the traffic in these enclosed areas will be crazy. The rest of the journey through the park is really nice, it's well maintained, friendly staff at the gates and you are ensured to see wildlife during the drive. The trip ends with 3 final enclosed areas, which again is very small. If you are local, take the self-drive option. If you are an international tourist, I would highly recommend the tour guide option. Overall, it was a great experience.

If I were to say that my experience was AMAZING it’d be an understatement. I had a wonderful time, The staff, the place is beautiful and clean. The Lions are huge by the way but The Female one was very friendly. Also giraffe interaction was really fun- wanna have a great day? Try it out. Happy!!!

Really great experience from the friendly and helpful staff to the interesting facts and viewings of the animals. I did the sunset tour and saw a lion feeding which was quite interesting. Along the way we saw Wild African dogs, warthogs, wildabeasts, antelopes, cheetahs, giraffes, lions, leopards, hyenas, and porcupines. This is a zoo, a sanctuary style zoo, but if you are expecting a fully wild safari you should go to Krueger National Park. This place is great for those beginning their safari excursions though!

This place is a real gem. From the moment you drive into the gate, everyone is I a great mood, the customer service is exceptional with some humor too! We did the 1 hour predator tour, it was very nice and informative. I was so impressed with the way our tour guide is informed. Explaining the difference between a cheetah and a leopard, the difference between an African wild dog and a hyena. It was impressive! We managed to watching the Lions feeding at 12 on a Sunday. The kids fed the giraffe, the play area is very nice and the food at the restaurant is to die for! There is a buffet on Sundays, and there was live music by the restaurant... The souvenir shops are so impressive, well stocked with a wife variety of mech to remind you of this awesome place. A day well spent!

We visited Lion park on 26 December with the kids. We were pleasantly surprised that it was not packed as it was a public holiday. There was plenty of parking. We took a lovely stroll around the beautifully kept vicinity. There are plenty of toilets on site and areas to wash hands. Kids had fun at the play area and enjoyed ice cream. We chose the self drive as I felt more comfortable travelling in our own car with all our kids (kids under 10). We bought the tickets at the venue. We were lucky to see the lions feeding at 3pm. A really awesome experience and highly recommended outing for the family. Just a heads up, the walk back to the exit is just shop after shop after shop filled with beautifully handmade local goodies to spoil yourself and your loved ones 😉.

Amazing game drive experience especially with guide. Got to feed a giraffe simba chips. Just super amazing. Thabani Bigboy is a super great guide very interactive. In most parts we did need him to remove his mark because it was quiet hard to hear him over the mask.

Absolutely a fantastic experience. BEST staff EVER, from the gaurd on the entrance gate, to the guides, to the staff in the BEST ever curio shopping experience you can ever have. Very well kept place. Clean, neat, tidy up to date and just overall a VERY worthwhile place to visit. Saw a lot of game, predators and have taken a multitude of pics on our 3 hours we spent there. We will most certainly be back.

I came for the horse riding experience which I loved. All the park guides were friendly and helpful. The ride guides were professional and courteous while still being friendly. They were very focused on my comfort, safety and enjoyment of the experience and because I was the only rider, were very happy to change things around for me. Note, experienced rides only take place during the week.

a nice 2 hour self drive safari in amongst the hills with nice views. great place to bring visitors who are passing through JoBurg on business and do not have the time to get to the big parks.

(Translated by Google) Very good for walking with the family, it looks more like a zoo, if the intention is to go on a Safari, I do not recommend it. Because animals are not in their natural habitat, each species is in a different sector. But the interaction with animals and lion cubs is exceptional.

Okay first before I get into the review we didn't get the chance to go on the self drive or the tours for the wild animals. We just walked through looking at everything else however it's on our list. We were occupied by a guy who works at the safari and he was so genuinely nice. He basically took his time walk around with us describing everything that the place had to offer and showing us their smaller animals. I mean we didn't pay him to do that and him being so friendly was so very inviting. It was warming to know that we didn't feel like we were being a burden to him by him walking us around. There's a restaurant, ice cream, kids area and its just honestly such a vibe and entertaining.

Great fun feeding the solidarity giarrafe. I had booked the 2 hours tour, this turned out to be almost 3 hours, as the super enthusiastic guide went out of the way to see the rhino's, that were grazing on a hillside. The cheetahs were hiding on the day, but we say the lions, less than 10 feet away from the truck. Thanks for a wonderful day

Beautiful, educational, and fun place to take kids, entire family, and friends. There’s a play area for kids, nice restaurant where you can also feed the giraffe, ice cream store, and various animals to see. You are able to self drive or take a guided tour to see lions and other animals in enclosed areas.

I am not certain who enjoyed the tour more, my husband and I or the kids. The guided tour is worth it. The guides are very good, passionate about their work, giving interesting facts all the way. More than anything was impressed with cleaning/maintenance staff they were the first people we saw upon arrival they were so welcoming and wished us a pleasant time, that was so awesome. There is more to the place than lions, nice play area for the kids and spoiled for choice for food and refreshments places. Secure ample parking, easy access from from the national road

My friends and I went on a self drive because it was one of the few things that are allowed during level 3 lockdown. We truly enjoyed being "out" in nature and seeing the beautiful animals. We saw all the animals that are at the park. So it was quite a treat. We even had a moment with the giraffe that came to our car and we were able to touch it and feed it. What a beautiful and friendly creature. The Lions were just chilling but it was so thrilling to be that close to them in a locked car haha. We were really lucky to witness the feeding time for the lions. It's a pity that I can't load videos here. But the guys there are so good, they literally directed the cars to park in a circle. Because we were scattered and some of us wouldn't have been able to see the feeding. So once the cars were parked correctly, the truck made its way to the center. And the lions suddenly ran to the center. And as the guy at the back of the truck was throwing out meat, each lion would grab a piece and go. It was quite fascinating to see. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I was so jolly, I kept having Lion King moments. When I saw the hyenas, I lost it and went into the "oh Scar its just you" scene hehe😂😂So, all in all do go, it's totally worth it!

I was driving on R512 going to Pretoria West and saw this beautiful statue of a lion on the road side then I like I should visit this place. On the 21/08/21 me and my friend decided to go check it out , we could have prebooked but we opted to pay when we at the place . Our tickets for game drive was R285 each, the 1st ride was at 9:30 so we were fortunate to take that one and I will encourage that if you want to visit and want your own space take the early drives ,it's less crowded, we were only four in the truck. The whole tour took 2hours, we saw different prides of lions, we saw cheaters, jaguar, wild dogs, hyenas, giraffe, Zebras, springboks etc. Thabang was our tour guide very informative and very funny especially when he tells you how many times lions becomes intimate=(20×10sec in a day🤣🤣🤣🤣hahahaha), it was beautiful. After the 2 hour we went for brunch 😋, we were hungry, I ordered the ribs ,they so yummy, my friend order the braai box, she wasn't happy, the meat portions were small for SA meat eaters🤣, but we enjoyed the food and the place👌👌👌👌👌👌

We were running late and almost missed our tour (the last one) and I'm glad we didn't. Having been on a few solo safaris, having a guide with us made a big difference so I'd recommend that you go for the guided tour instead of taking the self-drive option. Remember, these animals are in captivity so they are fed and well taken care of. You can get up close and personal with the cubs which is pretty cool.

We were pleasantly surprised at our overall experience. However there are some issues that can be worked on. From a control point of view I can understand the decisions made but they are a bit of a frustration for some people. The first thing is the self drive route forces one through the lion enclosures. There is no choice to bypass these. Unfortunately our experience of the first set of lions was not a good one. The male lion and one of the females charged at our car whilst we were taking photos. This did put us on edge entering the other enclosures as well as the return trip to main centre through the last 3 enclosures. I would have preferred to go through the cheetah, wild dog and lion enclosures first or had an option to bypass these altogether. Similarly the exit option only through the shopping experience is novel the first time but frustrating if you have to go back to your car quickly. Admittedly I bypassed this when had to go quickly to grab something out of my car. The food was awesome and highly recommended. We will definitely come through even if it's just for lunch. The overall experience was good as there was a wealth of animals to see on the self drive and the roads and enclosures looked well kept. Unlike other park experiences it does look like the park is well maintained and the animals look to be in good health. As a short experience of the bush that is not too far to travel to it is a worthwhile experience. It is clearly aimed at tourists who just want to have a quick shot of an African experience. The views are magnificent and worth it just for those too. Hopefully the standards can be improved upon and we can have an even better experience the next time.

I was so surprised at how good this place is. Very well maintained. It's big. There's so much to do and see. The bathrooms are spotless and there's a prayer facility as well. If I didn't give it five star I'd just be a Karen. Well done to them.

What an adventure our trip was. The lion Safari park experience is one of intrigue, adventure and romance that keeps you on the edge of your seat each and every moment. From the seemingly endless savannah plains dotted with the continent’s greatest wildlife. This is all that you expect and more about Africa! The most spectacular displays of animal behaviors are found in here and even closer to you and you get to come closer to the like of Jack the lion. Such a sweetheart. This place is definitely a must visit

what an incredible experience! A perfect getaway activity for the day. Im a huge lover of all things animal and nature related so for me, this was pure bliss. We booked a safari tour and we were fortunate enough to make it in time for the lion feeding which was such a thrill to watch. We also got to play and interact with lion cubs, which was the highlight of my day. And as an extra bonus, they cater for halal! What more could you ask for!

(Translated by Google) Nice trip if you are in Johannesburg. You can get very close to the animals, petting little lions and cheetahs. The park is nice, clean and you drive through the park with your own car. But I'm also a bit divided, with parks like this, what happens to the adult animals, wilding is no longer possible (hand-rearing) (Original) Schöner Ausflug wenn man in Johannesburg ist.

Lion and Safari Park is a fantastic way to spend the day or a few hours. The park consists of many large enclosures in which you are guaranteed sightings of lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, giraffes and some buck. The staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable. It is worth going for the guided tours but if you just want sightings without all the extra information then the self drive is great too. The path that you drive on is suitable for any type of vehicle, I had even seen a few sports cars doing the self drive with ease. The park also has a restaurant, a store to purchase some snacks and drinks as well as many Novelty and gift shops. They also have facilities to either print your own photos that you capture or capture some fun shots with their green screen. All in all a great experience and great value for money. Give it a try!

Really liked this attraction. Visited to interact with nature. Animals were up close to you. We saw lions, cheetahs, kudu, springbok, wildebeest, giraffes, hyenas, wild dogs. The landscape and views are amazing. Place is well kept. All covid protocols were observed. It was a bit pricey. We chose the self drive option. Didn't try the restaurant or curio stores

Amazing place… We had been in a game reserve before and made many game drives.. so after that I didn’t want to come this place as I was expecting something like a zoo… Now I think it was even better 🤩. We took the one hour tour… and it was super nice. Don’t hesitate if it is raining… it is even better because animals get more active in rainy weather. Try to go there in feeding times… it is something special. Driving your own car is also possible, and it can be a good idea especially in rainy days 😅.

Don't be afraid to visit this place if it's raining. In fact, The animals are extremely active during the rain as compared to a hot sunny day. In addition to that, the crowds are very small and you could end up getting virtually a private tour. So please don't be afraid to visit if it's raining. Pack a poncho, some comfortable shoes, and you'll be just fine. Even though the 2-hour option cost a little more, it is definitely worth it because this place is really large.

Love it! Also, appreciate the fact that humans were caged in a see-through bus and animals were out in the wild. Instead of the inverse. We got particularly lucky as we booked 2:30 - 3:30 pm slot on a Saturday, which also coincided with the feeding time of the big cats. We enjoyed the whole experience. The journey was even more informative with the help of a travel guide who explained some peculiar behavior of the animals: 1. We saw a male lion and female lion in their honeymoon phase, with the male following every slight move of the female. 2. The darker the fur mane of the male lion, the more powerful/stronger he is and eventually the more female lions (or wives) he walks with. 3. When feeding, the alpha/more dominant lions will always have priority. All others will wait for their turn in the same order of strength/power.

I wanted an interesting outing for the kids during school holidays. We visited the park on a Saturday morning and we had an amazing time. We opted for the 11:30 slot as it included the lions feeding schedule. I booked online and that was helpful as most slot are taken by the time you arrive and it also lessens the waiting time.

Perfect place to see lions, wild dogs, hyenas and leopards. These animals are in smaller enclosures hence almost guaranteed that you will see them. The experience at the Lion Park was a great experience but there are some aspects of the park that can be improved. When arriving at the park my partner and I had to queue to check in which was not the best because we had already checked in online. The game drive with JAY JAY was the best. He has allot of knowledge and we learnt quite allot from him. He engaged with everyone and he really made the experience a great one that wont be forgotten! He deserves a 10/10. I would only recommend that the customers be reminded about social distancing. The wetlands restaurant was the worst restaurant I have been to this year. The food prices were reasonable but the food tasted really bad and after this both my partner and I felt sick. Not only was the food terrible but so was the service. Our waitress kept disappearing and we had to keep raising out hand for help. The waiters were also arguing at our table for tips and this is not something customers should see. The restaurant really needs to change as this can really ruin your experience of the park which is how we felt. Besides the terrible experience at the wetlands restaurant the game drive was excellent and would definitely come back to the park specifically for that. The shops at the park are also really beautiful. The animals at the park look very healthy and well kept which was also good to see.

What a Fantastic Experience... On 9 November My Wife and I went there on a Tuesday Morning, We had a Predator Tour booked, Luckily for me and my wife we were the Only ones who showed up that early and we went on our 9:30 Predator Tour. We were the only people there. Our tour guide was Fantastic. Very Informative and relaxed, Definitely Summed us Up and treated us as a pier. Such a Fantastic Guy. Lots of Knowledge Crammed into his Head. On our returned he wished us well and we went on to explore the rest of the park. Walked around saw all the sites, and went for lunch.. I ordered a Burger and Chips, and the wife took a Chicken BBQ pizza... Wooooow... we Feasted like Royalty... on our way out we came across the Giraffe, and were told that we can Buy a Bag of food at the Kiosk to feed the Giraffe. we were so taken by the experience, we bought 3 bags... definitely a great experience, friendly people all over the place. definitely coming backnfor a relaxing week day.

Such a wonderful experience with memories to last. Our ranger George was also very friendly, humble, kind and answered any questions we had about the enclosures we visited. I did a private tour so it was just myself, my dad and the ranger. We watched the lions, cheetahs and wild dogs being fed. We saw some hyenas as well and the highlight for me was feeding the giraffe nuts during the game drive, it stuck it's head directly into the vehicle🦒 it's something we will never forget and I highly recommend experiencing a safari game drive. We also saw a beautiful leopard and black panther. You'll also see Zebras and Wildebeests.

Went for a self drive safari and really enjoyed it but wasn’t happy about the service. We arrived at 8:15 and they open at 8:30. We waited in the parking lot and they let us in, didn’t give a map or explain anything or even check my tickets. Just said ok drive in and that was it. Found that odd but generally enjoyed the experience.

We wen on Sunday, at the entrance we enquired about a braaing facilities nd the lady gave directions to the braai are. Only, to be told we must pay, per person. I enquired why, as we just want to braai. We were then advised, the entrance we at, is a self drive thru, nd not a braaing facilities. Ooooh, was I furious. At least, the previous park offered a lovely braaing facilities. Really disappointed. To have spent 3 hours on the road, with facilities in site. Nd the drive thru, so expensive. To charge per person. Everybody is financially challenged. Sad. Regards

(Translated by Google) Lion Park is one of Johannesburg's main tourist attractions. The park is very close to the city, about 25 km from the Sandton district, which facilitates access for tourists visiting Johannesburg. One of the most characteristic objectives of those who travel to South Africa is to get closer to animals, especially large animals such as lions. It turns out that safari parks like Kruger Park are a long way from Johannesburg and other major cities in South Africa. Which is why Lion Park is so famous. In addition to the park being very close to the city, it displays many lions and knows how to make a great advertisement to attract tourists. That's why Lion Park has become an unmissable attraction for anyone visiting Johannesburg. #recomendo

Open every day of the year The Lion Park, an established tourist destination, well loved by locals and foreigners alike, became a popular experience for all over the last 50 years. Having moved to the Cradle of Humankind in July 2016, this new must-see world class facility, called Lion and Safari Park, offers guests a memorable experience. The new park offers a wealth of exciting activities such as animal interactions, guided game drives and self-drives. You are guaranteed to get super-close to some of Africa’s favourite animals whether you go on an informative guided tour or self-drive. Guests also have the opportunity to engage in the experience of hand feeding a selection of animals including giraffes, ostriches and various other antelope species that roam freely on the 600-hectare property and frequently visit the wetlands in front of ‘the Wetlands’ Bar and Restaurant.

  • 1/5 Tamaryn W. 2 years ago on Google
Did not enjoy the experience, despite loving to see the animals. Authorities should not allow this kind of company to continue - the animals are stressed with too many cars allowed into the cages. A feeding slot at midday showed how hungry the lions were - in the heat they came rushing toward the food vehicle. (There is no way for them to catch their own food.) The cubs were visibly stressed as cars drove with a half metre of them. In another cage, a guide allowed visitors to feed giraffes commercial potato chips and when we remarked to the international guests that probably was not a good idea, he boldly announced that it had happened for years. Lastly, there was a sick buck in one of the cages, that would have been eaten by predators in the wild, and nature would not allow it to die a slow death. The impression I got was this was a money-hungry business. So sad! This is not a healthy environment for animals and humans should know better than this! We have advanced! (Why did we go? With a guest hosting international visitors. Won’t ever go again.)

They have a wide variety of animals and plenty of different species of buck.ie. Gemsbok, iland, impala, blesbok and springbok. The feeding time for the lions are 12 and 3pm. They have a good system where all the cars form a circle and they feed the lions in the Centre. Was a good experience. They also have hyenas in an enclosure as well.

Honestly this is one of a kind park! You can just walk up to the restaurant and if the giraffes are there then you can buy a pack of food and feed them right out of your hands! It is just something else! 🦒 You can also do a game drive by yourself. Park is not to big so you can do it in about 2 hours. Drive is beautiful! When you will be starting the game drive you will be able to experience the lions up close! 🦁 There is a couple of stops on the drive, where you will able to see the hyenas as well.

We did the self-drive on New Years day and thoroughly enjoyed the day out. Acknowledgement must be given to their friendly, polite staff from the moment we entered. This always makes an experience much more pleasant and memorable!

They were very punctual. We opted for the guided tour but one can choose to drive. You see lions everywhere, including white lions. Its a good program for the kids.

We did not go into the park only went to the restaurant Wetlands for lunch. Great view. Watched the people feeding the giraffe and taking photos. Food was amazing. The waitress was spot on.

A quick drive from Pretoria and Johannesburg to see some amazing animals. The park has been expanded and it caters for a nice self-drive with family to see all the animals in there natural habitat. The food at the restaurant was excellent and also well priced. The girrafes at the restaurant makes for an even better experience and beautiful view ...

This place is spectacular. I loved everything about it. The views, the ambience, the experience, the restaurant and the activities offered are worth every penny spent...the only thing missing was good company for me as I went there alone. However I will definitely be going back to the park with my family.

Must visit place when in Johannesburg!! You would love to see the lions, cheetahs, ostriches & few other animals that too so close to you and the best part is that you are allowed to take your own vehicle inside the park to experience these beauties. This place is well maintained & also has a cozy cafe where you experience a giraffe roaming in the backyard & a store to buy some artifacts. Altogether a GREAT experience!! 🦁

The staff are very friendly and start the experience off in a fun and positive manner. The bathrooms are well maintained, with the cleaning staff being very friendly and making sure it stays clean. Plenty of parking that makes it accessible for all guests. The only downfall was the super small enclosures for the Hyenas. The other animals had a bigger area to roam and the Hyenas had a very tiny area that is not suitable.

A great place with some good activities for the kids. Feeding the giraffe was a blast for the kids and the horse ride was great. Staff in general are really friendly and good with people. It’s a putty there are no more cubs that the kids could play with and have photos taken. The giraffe in itself was the winner in our books.

Great time going quad biking! Completely safe and great experience! Guided tour also worth while to go see the lions, cheetahs and wild dogs.

This place is amazing! It was such a great experience. They even had a halaal section of the restaurant which made me very happy. It's a bit pricey but worth it. We did get lost on the self drive and missed the lion feeding so we definitely planning to go back. It's really a beautiful place.
