The kids and the Adults enjoyed this experience. R140 for adult and R70 kids. The animals looks happy and wel kept. You can see the whole time the personal tending to the animals wil care. You can even see a snake and sea lion show 2 times a day over weekends. We loved it.

The best value for money place you can ever go to!! There are so many animals, snakes and birds as well as a ferry ride for only R60!!(2021 price). There are also reptile and bird shows you can freely enjoy!! Perfect outing for the whole family.

Let's face it - for most of us living in the cities the only real way our children will be able to experience and learn about different wild animals is from a zoo. After visiting both Johannesburg and Pretoria zoos, as well as Lory Park and the few little petting zoos in JHB, we decided to try this one. And what a lovely experience. This zoo is a lot smaller than JHB or PTA but wow, the enclosures are so well maintained and the animals look content and happy and cared for. It was such a refreshing experience to see this. The zoo property itself is somewhat rustic and this makes it even more fun to visit. On weekends and public holidays there is a small seal and snake show at 12pm and 3pm - good fun, especially for toddlers. There are ferry rides at an extra, inexpensive cost and additional water activities that can be done at the water centre on the property. The zoo is also small enough that you can probably cover it in a day or less but also feel accomplished and like you got your money's worth. It is pram accessible in most areas - there were 1 or 2 where I struggled and had to lift my son's pram up some steps but for the most part prams or wheelchairs are easy to manouvre. It's also a nice drive out to get there if you're coming from JHB! Big recommendations on this one 😊

We had a wonderful time at the park . Ot was very clean and a real pleasure seeing all the animals. The enclosures was clean and the animals are well looked after. We had a much better experience than a few years ago , well-done the staff and employees...

This place is huge and there is so much more to see here than just snakes. There are lions, leopards, jaguar, birds, monkeys, seals, hyenas. There is a few places where vegetation outside the enclosure makes it hard to see the animals inside of it. Overall really great experience and we enjoyed it as a family. Plenty of bathrooms. They also do shows twice per day. Excellent value for money

Haven't been here for about 8 years, it was still not bad and clean inside. The shows at the pool are good too.

Going early in the morning is the best get there at about 10 am as the animals are all out. The boat ride on the Dam is so lovely. The prices are also not bad R130 for adults and R80 for children. The boat ride for adults was R60.

Harties Zoo has really up there game regarding taking care of the facility and their animals. It was a pleasure spending the day with family and getting to see what the zoo had to offer. I would highly recommend that you make a turn at the Zoo if you have a family.

I had my doubts but I was surprised. The animal are well looked after, cages are super clean and the variety of animals are wide and great. You can get a good take away there and even a boat ride. Plus seal and snake show. My kids loved the day. Worth it.

Great place for family, we did a lot of activities. Loved the animals, too! Lol, we got stuck with the speed boat in the middle of the dam we were out of petrol. Lucky us, it gave us more time in the dam... please work on your boats maintenance.

We went on a Monday morning, it was very quiet, a maximum of 50 people were at the zoo. Cages were empty and some of the information didn't match the animal, since the spaces of some primates were full of rats (photos), I don't know if it's part of the presentation but I found it disgusting. If you are after Lions, zebras, cheetahs ... I suggest visiting Lion Park about 40 minutes from the center of Johannesburg, there you can visit with your own car.

Great spot to take the family. Cages well maintained. Great collection of different snakes. Houses all sorts of animals, including a tiger, vulture, wild dogs, lions, giant tortoises and many more. They have a ferry and speed boat rides available. Snake and seal show at 12pm and 3pm on weekends and public holidays. I would plan either a morning or afternoon session if you do not take the ferry. Kiosk offers basic food and soft drinks.

Well kept and maintained animals with most animals for close encounter and entertainment. Please continue to support hartebeespoort dam which is a century old next year... Building started in 1918 and finished in 1923. Hope they plan a Special Festival to celebrate 🎉 this major milestone

Not the biggest fan of zoo parks but this one is beautiful and well maintained. Each animals area is big enough for them to move around, they have shade and proper water systems. The seal and snake show is informative and fun and we got to touch the snake. Not as wheel chair friendly but with a bit of effort you can navigate well enough through the park. The animals have character. They aren't just lazing around in the hot sun but they actually moved around and the chimpanzee and monkeys are interactive. They have food stalls on the premises, a picnic area and sufficient seating with tables. It's literally on the damn so the views going though the park is amazing with lots of selfie and photo opportunities for you and your family It's actually a really great experience. Up the road from the park are a few restaurants and the damn wall where you go through the tunnel and get to see more of the fan itself. The whole area is just a great experience. Make a day of it!

Very friendly personal who was not only willing to assist but very informative about crocodiles and lions in general. Up close experience with crocodiles and lions, great food and drinks at reasonable prices, children enjoyed themselves and played freely. Friendly atmosphere had a live singer at no extra cost. Bought crocodile steak at a good price, will visit again...

Great place to enjoy. The zoo is well kept and clean with many kiosks to get your refreshments. The grounds are well groomed. The animals are health and taken care of. They adhere to strict Covid rules keeping the public safe. I was totally amazed at the new and improved changes. I highly recommend this place.

We were really impressed with the zoo. Absolutely well maintained, friendly staff. Even all the animals looked happy :). The addition of the food stalls also makes it easier to enjoy a variety of different foods. It would be nice (not sure if they already do) to have a “Zoo App” that has a mobile map included.

Well worth the visit, the place is just desperately in need of a lot of cleaning and maintenance. It is clear that a lot of maintenance especially painting haven't been done in decades. The restaurant is decent and reasonably priced. The food stalls is also a good addition. Great outing for the whole family. No male lion and some enclosures are empty.

Compact, clean and neat. Park is pretty small, perfect for a morning or afternoon outing. A hit with the kids. Lion, leopard, tiger and jaguar should be reason enough to visit. Noteworthy is the collection of snakes, if you are into that. The seal show is recommended. Will definitely visit again and recommend. Management was not amused when asked if naughty kids may be donated to the monkey exhibits

The zoo is well maintained. There is a good variety of animals, birds, reptiles and snakes to see. There are plenty of toilets facilities and they are clean. The seal and snake show was OK but don't compare it to a full aquarium. The boat ride was lovely and very affordable. It was a lovely leisurely cruise. There is a reasonably priced snack shop. If you struggle with stairs there are plenty ramps to get you around. All in all, good fun for the family for the day.

It was a very educational experience for both the kids and the adults... the cruise was nice but very shot plus the vegetation wasn't so appealing with so much littering, I wish they could clean it up. Otherwise the experience was amazing, 🤗

It's an entertaining stop for the kids in Hartees. The animal enclosures are well curated and the animals are well looked after. It's not a large facility, so you can see everything in detail in less than an hour. Parking can be an issue, but there are lots of relatively friendly car guards outside that will help you park outside the bounds of the zoo. They have a mid day show with a seal and some live snakes. Make sure to take some drinks before you sit. The zoo also is the point for the water sports.

Overall, the animals all seemed healthy. The entrance fee is high but there is lots to see. Perks: Quite a few bathrooms; more than one canteen/ tuck shop; nice seated areas next to the water. Overall worth it if you have a toddler/ child that would love to see animals. The fish feeding area is now just hyacinth and mountains of litter, so give that a pass. Otherwise not bad.

The diversity of animals is awesome. You will find lions, cheetahs, elephants, various types of monkeys, tigers and so much more. I think they need to add some scooters plus paid tour guides or something coz the place is huge. My legs were aching big time after a round trip.so much to see and so little time. It's definitely worth a second and even a third visit. Just come with a full charged phone and hiking shoes. Breathtaking. I enjoyed every minute

Great experience with the kids. It is is relatively clean and the animals looked well kept. The food selection is dismal though. Sausage Saloon is pretty much all there is and the shops look delapidated. But with plenty of picknic and braai facilities, this should not hold anyone back from enjoying the wide open space, animals and scenery.

It is always fun going there! Me and my boyfriend are going again on Valentine's. Packing a picnic basket with some choclate coated strawberries is always a thing to do. And dressing up for the day and enjoying it together. Thanks to all the friendly worker's working and always putting a smile when you come in and it feels like a warm welcome everytime. You should something in the old tiger enclosure tho.

  • 5/5 Hans R. 3 years ago on Google
What a fantastic outing. I've driven past here many times wanting to visit but I was never sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised, the animals look happy; the cages are well kept. There is a large variety of critters to see, including chimpanzees as well as a jaguar. The giant snakes are also a sight to behold.

  • 4/5 Philip M. 3 years ago on Google
Loved the reptile and snake park. As a fellow Harties resident, it's a good get away place where you can sit by the dam, and enjoy some quiet time or get a boat ride. The park itself is amazing for kids to learn and see animals that they other wise would see on tv or books. The food is also good.

  • 4/5 Divya S. 3 years ago on Google
Animals are beautiful.. Unfortunately we got there abit late they were all resting nd asleep

  • 3/5 Aadil M. 3 years ago on Google
Place is ok, some of the cages were empty, was a bit disappointed as the price you pay you expect to see all or most of the attractions. The place was clean enough. The ferry ride was decent, could have been a bit more cleaner. Though it was a nice chilled cruise. A bit expensive though as this is an additional cost and not included in the steep entrance fee. They do not really have a closing time and decide to close when they feel like it. For us, we were basically thrown out before 5pm as they wanted to close. Parking is a nightmare. I suggest going on a quiet day and not a public holiday or weekend.

Beautiful Zoo. The animals seem well looked after but the big cats looked very sad and depressed to be caged. Heartbreaking to see them looking so sad but still a wonderful experience to have seen them in real life. The birds if prey were awesome to see and the reptiles. They have the biggest variety of animals I've ever seen at a Zoo and I do hope they give those animals lots of love because they need it. The black bears looked sad too. Just give them lots of love guys and keep up the good work please.

We were at the restaurant across from snake park. Huge portions but not great food. But good vibes with nice music. BUT the traffic to get in amf out of the area was quite unreal. Stationary in bouling hot sun with numerous beggars coning up to the cars whipe we waited. And way too many sales people selling stuff one doesnt need. If you're going to drive out, try miss the busy days. It was 2 hours in traffic!! Not fun.

Staff are friendly, and it is a nice outing, especially for children. I'm a bit concerned about the state of some of the animals i.e. big cats seemingly grossly overweight, chimps not looking too healthy. But overall a nice outing.

A somewhat dated zoo experience. I have visited this zoo on a number of occasions over the year. I do not know whether its the impact of Covid and/or a general lack of resources that has the zoo looking shabby around the edges. Still, one can get to experience lions, a jaguar, cheetahs, leopards and tigers amongst the animals on display. Children 12 and under pay a slightly lower rate than adults.

The park is well maintained. Directions in the inside is a big problem. A map of the park will be of great help. The sound system at the arena is very bad and the events manager can not be heard very well. He sound like Persy Montgomery. 😳Talking through his nose.

One of the coolest places in Haarties. This place is very scary for me who has a phobia of snakes. There are so many different types of animals and birds to see with the snakes. As a family outing it is highly recommended that you visit this place if you are in the area. Lots of food places in the surrounding area to visit on this day trip.

  • 4/5 Joanel Van N. 1 year ago on Google
I love the snake and animal park - the people working there are amazing and super friendly and helpful, we always watxh the snake and seal show and learn something new everytime, and the enclosures are clean and the animals are all well taken care of and loved. It's a great place to bring kids to and I will always support them in every which way I can because of their hard word and genuine care for their animals.

  • 4/5 Rotondwa T. 1 year ago on Google
Lovely time shared with friends and family. Plenty animals to see including reptiles, mammals (lions, tiger, monkeys, etc) and birds... They usually have a snake show once or twice a day; depending on how busy they are and the number of visitors that day.

  • 5/5 Britney van der M. 8 months ago on Google
I’m very impressed about how clean the cages are. The zoo isn’t that big, but big enough to walk trough and continue with your day. The animals are well looked after! We went on a Sunday and wasn’t that busy, would recommend this zoo over any other in Gauteng. Well done to the zoo keepers and friendly staff.

  • 5/5 Dhanesh B. 7 months ago on Google
Great value for money, Never knew something like existed in the area. If you like animals and outdoors this is a must. Going back there again when it gets warmer. Great for kids.

  • 5/5 Nola G. 7 months ago on Google
The animals are fat and well looked after and the place is clean. Just a pity the dam is so disgustingly dirty. It's a pity the Dam people don't clean it. The zoo needs to try clean it themselves and not reply on the government to clean. But we still loved the visit.

  • 4/5 Richard de V. 5 months ago on Google
This was a very nice outting. There are a lot of animals on display and also 2 love shows. Entrance fees are acceptable. They need to care for all these animals. Watch out for the spitting chimpanzees 🤣 All in all, it was time well spent with family 😍

  • 4/5 Phumlile N. 6 months ago on Google
I thought animals and snakes are only kept in Pretoria Zoo not at Hartbeespoort. I was so astonished to see so many schools visited that place but sad because I wanted to cruise but couldn't as the schools had booked.

  • 5/5 Wesley D. 4 months ago on Google
A great day out for the family. Entrance fee is not bad and by the condition of the park, fees are being well spent on maintenance and animal enclosures, which were clean. We enjoyed the kiosk with the usual sweet treats for the kids and the slushy went down very well on the hot day. Our cars were safe outside in the parking, with no issues. We’ll definitely be back and support the animal park.
