We book the package that included elephant and monkey sanctuary and then a 2 hour guided safari drive at Lion Park. We went in the morning to feed, bush and walk with the elephants. It was truly amazing and spectacular to be that up close to elephants. I went with my daughter (2yrs) and wife. The staff were brilliant and really made us feel safe and were helpful when taking pictures. After the elephants, we had a guided tour of the recused monkeys. Make sure you have nothing that the cheeky monkeys can grab. They had a look in all the pockets in our bag. The guide was very knowledge and really cared for the animals. We then went to the Lion Park. It was good to be able to go an a safari with my daughter and be able see all the animals and feel safe. Dusty the guide was great.

Really cool experience interacting with the elephants, you get to feed them and touch them and they're so intelligent they'll show you their teeth and their foot. The guides are also really nice and take pictures and videos for you with your phone.

We had the most amazing time Well worth the money. My only complaint it I felt the groups are to big, it took forever to get pictures and stuff done. Other than that it's amazing

Took my family here, it turned out to be one of the most spectacular outings we've had in a long time. The venue is very clean and well maintained, the animals are in great shape, the people working here are extremely knowledgeable and have the animals at heart, worthwhile the trip.

Had an awesome day at the Elephant Sanctuary. The Elephants are so well looked after and the way they interact with their handlers and the public is testimony of this. Being part of their feeding and full interaction was something I will never forget. The elephants are carefree and are not caged up. Watching them roam in the fields was the highlight of he day. Thank you to Connie and the rest of the rest for making this day special!

It was so much fun spending a day as 'caretaker' for both the elephants and the monkeys. Staff and personel were so kind, shared information and made our day to a memorable and joyfull experience with them and the animals. Thank you so much! Till we meet again!

My absolute favourite animal in the world and I cannot recommend this sanctuary enough! We were here 6 years prior and I was a little concerned that the keepers had bull hooks with them, but was so happy to see the elephant cared for and no more bull hooks! We took out almost two year old and even he got involved and loved feeding and brushing the elephants. I believe that the elephant in the picture remember me from our previous trip as she kept rubbing her trunk on my arm, these is such a wonderful experience and it's worthwhile for the whole family.

Went there and it was my besties birthday😎 We captured a lot of memories , more important is that we enjoyed ourselves and got a chance to learn about elephants and how they actually live and survive. Lastly please wear flat shoes πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ only if we knew we did not bother to check but here we were πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ wearing platforms boots . Any ways the distance is not that bad . Good interactions of the guiders with the visitors πŸ”₯β€οΈπŸ™Œ

Such a fun outing!! The rangers are very knowledgeable and have great interpersonal skills. I learnt so much about these gentle giants! You also have multiple opportunities to feed the elephants and take really close up photos. There’s a monkey sanctuary right next to the elephant sanctuary. Great out of for the whole family or as a date.

What a humbling experience to interact with these gentle giants! The sanctuary is really a safe haven for the animals, in their natural habitat, against the backdrop of the Magaliesburg mountains. The guides (#James) and carers are passionate about looking after them and telling their story. An afternoon well spent.

ELEPHANT BACK RIDING (OPTIONAL EXTRA ADD-ON) Riding is an opportunity to experience elephants from a different perspective and is conducted in a boma. It is not a safari experience. (Only for the fit and adventurous). Recommended to wear jeans or long pants. Riding is an optional extra which can be" added-on" to the Elephant Interaction program. Children must be 8 years+ in order to ride elephants. Please note the Elephant Back Riding cannot be confirmed until the day of the program. For the safety of our guests our Senior Handler will either approve or decline any riding on the day 🐘.

Visited the monkey sanctuary and man oh man was it fun. Paying the extra R50,00 to feed the monkeys was definitely worth it! The hour tour was both highly educational and super fun, with a splash of adventure. After you have fed the monkeys you go on the little adventure hike over two hang bridges, through the bush, over and under trees and learn about the caves and history of the place. Would definitely recommend wearing good shoes, because you will walk quite a bit. Can't wait to visit this sanctuary again.

Amazing! Pay the little bit extra to feed them. The monkey food lasts the whole route and it makes for amazing and up close interaction. Awesome staff, E-V-E-R-Y one of them. Was worth every Rand. Now I'm confident that the Elephant experience will be amazing as well (already booked).

Great experience, but a bit pricey. You get to feed the elephants for 5min, and touch them for 2min. Walk with them for about 10. I'd honestly prefer less time chatting and more time watching and touching the elephants. Or tell us the facts while we watch them.

The Hartbeespoort Elephant and Monkey Sanctuary was an absolutely incredible, family friendly experience! For the Elephant Sanctuary we had an opportunity to interact with (touch, brush, and walk alongside) four beautiful elephants under supervision of a well-trained and friendly staff over the course of a two-hour tour. There was also an option to have a professional video taken on site, but photos and video are highly encouraged throughout the experience. The Monkey Sanctuary was equally impressive and featured small breeds like the Capuchin and Squirrel monkey. We were given pans of food to feed the monkeys, who were more than excited to walk up to us and partake in a treat. This was a remarkable, and reasonably priced experience that was accentuated by an excellent staff of professionals! 5/5

Great experience with Elephants and Monkey Sanctuary. Important to follow instructions as one person in our group frightened the elephants because he did not follow the guidelines. Lacking security as a visitor's car was stolen while we were there. When questioned, they said they only have a car gaurd on weekends. No entrance security. Property is clean and well kept.

This is such a beautiful experience. The venue is absolutely beautiful, the guides are passionate and the elephants and their story very special. An unmissable adventure. I elected to do package 1 which combines this with a visit to the Monkey Sanctuary and the Lion and Safari park. The elephant sanctuary doesn't serve meals persay, but there are beautiful places to sit and enjoy a picnic, or drive straight through to the Lion and Safari park on package 1 and eat at the restaurant there before your Safari drive. You must book adventures in advance or your options are limited as a walk in. Their response to emails and phone calls is great, so you won't have any difficulty contacting them.

Very beautiful place and so respectful on the animals. Amazing you can get so close to the elephants, trained with food but still wild so they gave us a good chat at the begging how to be respectful to them. This was reassuring that they are still wild. A must visit! The staff were amazing really made a great show.

Amazing experience, the Elephant sanctuary was the draw card but the walk through the monkey sanctuary stole our hearts, it was so serene and full with positive energy. The interaction between the guides and the monkeys and the elephants was incredible! What an amazing family outing!

Wonderful place if you want to get up and personal with the elephants 🐘 you will also learn information about them. Fun for all ages. And if your lucky you can get a big kiss from the elephants. It is bit on the pricey side but its worth it and when you see how they are looking after this amazing animals you understand the price. If you ever wounded about what do elephant skin feel like this is the place to find out. The moneys are in the same park with a adventure walk really fun when its feeding time.

A very emotional experience......the staff, rangers and handlers are amazing with the animals!!! Where can you get so close to an elephant and experience their gentle souls and elegance! We as the public must support these sanctuaries since the Ellies eat a lot daily and with Covid the staff and handlers volunteered to help care for the Ellies and other animals because they were concerned - without pay.......they need us and our support. Think about the animals in this time of need! Your entry fees are for a magnificent cause!! The monkeys at the sanctuary are a scream!!!!! I have not laughed to much in a very long time. You interact with them in a huge enclosure and let me tell you, they are very comical. You just do not know what expect until you step into the enclosure........treat yourself and your family to this special outing. They have several packages!

My family and I had such a wonderful experience. These creatures are truly majestic, and can teach us humans so many lessons, including on how to be a human. The guide's information was very informative and insightful. The only critique is that it is more of a petting zoo/park, than a actual sanctuary, I understand that they incorporate human interaction for tourism and for funds, but I feel it should reflect what it truly is.

This experience was enlightening and quite memorable. I had the ability to be close to the magestic male amd female African Elephant's. It was truly Captivated. The guides where both a pleasure to be with. As they where just filled with so much love for the Elephant's with a vast array for their wealth for knowledge. The South American monkeys where also quite cute. I have to say that touching the Elephant's and walking so close to them was quite the experience for me. Being a world traveller has certainly given me many experiences. However being this up close to these 3800kg females. And 5000kg males where quite frightening at first. Then u realize they are so gentle giants. Their handlers manage pumba and tawara so well that it was just amazing to watch these Elephant's. They r so intelligent and responded better than my dog. As for when the Elephant's urinate thats like a water fall. Do much gets released. Looks like a waterfall. I highly recommend a visit to the Sanctuary. Water is sold at the shop. Prior to the tour. Enjoy and have fun!!! I did...

  • 5/5 Whitney M. 1 year ago on Google
An absolute true interaction with nature and one of the majestic big fives. During the tour, you are allowed to feed, touch and walk with the elephants. There are a lot guides that come along with you, so no need to be afraid. One gets educated about the biology and lifestyle of the elephants. Excellent service and friendly employees. Our guide, Sam demonstrated knowledge and understanding of how the elephants behave. Make sure that you wear comfortable shoes. Leave your bag in the car, just bring along your phone for pictures (guides are more than willing to help). They have a birthday special, where you can gain free entry on your birthday - you have to provide proof that it's your birthday, i.e., ID, passport or driver'slicense. I just wish they could reduce the entrance fee to make more accessible to the public. However, I also understand that feeding the animals and maintaining a healthy lifestyle for them is costly.

The Elephant Sanctuary is a must when in Harties. Hidden gem. Sam our guide was so amazing. Really interactive. From feeding the elephants to brushing them. The handlers treat the animals with so much respect. To top it all off, the elephant trumpet on demand. With is crazy. Don't wanna talk about the money, because its worth every cent.

Elephant & Sanctuary is situated at Hartebeespoort, North West Province. This is 1 hour 20 minutes away from Johannesburg & 1 hour from Pretoria. Dedicated site guides take you through an unforgettable experience through the dense nature hike trail to the spaces where the elephants live on the mountainside. Learning about the elephants' anatomy, feeding them, brushing their skin & walking with them is part of the tour. (No riding of elephants happens here). The sanctuary hosts three tour sessions daily all year round with each tour duration, which is 1 hour and 30 minutes long. The tour is fairly easy, and all ages may do it. I won't recommend wheelchairs as the trail goes up and down the area to get to the elephants. Light refreshments (drinks only) are sold at the reception area.

Great experience with Elephants and Monkey Sanctuary.I really enjoyed πŸ˜‰. I had a lot of fun. Important thing to do is to follow the instructions as we you interact with the elephant 🐘 and monkey because the only relationship with have with them is food. No food no relationship. I have learned so much about the elephant 🐘, I didn't know that the elephant got 4 teeth 😬 πŸ˜…. It was my first time feeding an elephant how great πŸ˜„. I loved it πŸ˜€ ❀️ Thanks to MAYFIELDSQUARE TEAM for making this tour possible πŸ™Œ πŸ™

This was our second visit to the sanctuary with visitors from other countries, and we will go again and again. The staff is very well trained and exceptionally knowledgeable and professional. They were friendly, welcoming and also accommodating when making special request. The whole facility is neat and clean, very well maintained. It is also practically as well as esthetically complimentary to the whole experience. The animals are all healthy looking and more than just well cared for, they are loved. Well done to this wonderful team.

We had am amazing experience with the gentle giants and the adorable monkeys. Tinashe was our guide and has fantastic presentation skills pfor the elephant interaction. We also had James for the monkey sanctuary who was very funny and answered all the questions we had happily.
