For a 5 star institution, a number of things let them down. No two pin adapters in the room. A shower that was basic at best. Doors that were difficult to open and some that simply wouldn't lock. Attention to detail is lacking. On the other hand: The food is outstanding, deserving of 5 stars. Delicately prepared, exquisitely presented, perfectly cooked with flavours that were spot-on. Staff were friendly and out of sight until you needed someone and like magic, they were there ready and willing as well as able. Mildred, too us under her wing and made sure we wanted for nothing while in the dinning room. The picnic on the grass was just perfect and once again, Mildred was there to fetch extra blankets and cushions. Would I go again, for the food, no question, for the accomodation, mmmmm not convinced.

We were only there for one night and we regretted being there for such a short stay. We loved the location, it is located at a very nice isolated area. The place offers tranquility at its best, which is what we needed. The staff is well trained and very friendly. They are always ready to offer help or assist. The room was very clean and specious and so was the bathroom. You will never fill cold even though its winter or during load-shading. There was gas fire in the room, air conditioner and electric blanket. I really appreciated the quality cleanliness of the linen. Their food is gourmet and is only prepare on request. I really recommend it to anyone who appreciate quality and value for money.

Not quite 5 stars. The rooms let the friendly and curtious staff down. The rooms we were given were not up to 5 star standard. Food was really good and the place is quite. Sundays can get busy for people on picnics coming from the surrounds.

Was looking for an escape in the country post a stressful few weeks … this place was amazing. We had an incredible picnic along the river and under some huge trees … ordered special veg baskets bursting with flavours. The 4 course dinner was amazing and I always appreciate when the chef goes out their way to cater for my veg requirements. Breakfast was equally amazing Love this place and the quaint country feel, yet 5 star experience

Budmarsh has been a favorite for many years however this last trip in August 2023 was a let down. They are still mentioning themselves as 5 star but are not even rated on the tourism grading council website. This is an actually illegal. The staff has been there for years which is good but even they are struggling to keep up with the deterioration of the place. No security guard at the gate, no porters on arrival, no welcome drinks at reception. Missing soap in the room. The list goes on. We told the GM Anica and she tried to convince us they are working on it but those glory days are gone. The wine cellar which was a winner for years is a shadow of its former glory with cheap wines being sold at a premium. Their food was very average serving food that you can get for R200 but charging R900. This was definitely our last trip, what a let down as we have supported Budmarsh for almost 10 years.

Lovely place for a getaway, but especially if you need a weekend to relax and chill, do nothing. You need to drive if you want to do any activities. The staff are wonderfully friendly, I found all the waiters so friendly and professional. The food is really great! The gardens are pristine, well kept and peaceful, as it is for the inside. The bathrooms have heated towels rails! I could be wrong but as far as I understand five star establishments need extra length beds but my feet were hanging off the end 🤔 nevertheless I slept very well!

We had a really lovely stay for my 50th. Jeantelle the manager is lovely and really helpful. Felix, who carried our bags, served us and was our personal bartender was great. All of the staff were friendly and made us comfortable. Thanks Budmarsh, we are definitely coming back.

*** Picnic Review only *** Visited Budmarsh Country Lodge on the 1st of January 2022 for a picnic. Very lovely, clean and quiet place! The staff are very friendly, attentive and helpful. If you want a stress free picnic for two or group of people, I strongly recommend Budmarsh. Just arrive and enjoy a picnic as they cater everything for you. 🥞🧇🧀🍖🍗🥩🥓🍔🍕🌮🥧🍪🍊🍇 From my photos you can see that they serve a selection of diverse foods that are delicious 😋 plenty of food and you can take the remaining food with you. 🍾🍷☕🍸🍹🍺🍻🥂🥃🥤🧃 Drinks are not included and you have to pay for them separately. There are some walking paths for when you are tired of sitting on the lawn and just want to stretch your legs. The only thing we did not like about the place was the Ants! 🐜🐜🐜 There were so many of them and they bite 🙁😏 So we kept on having to chase them away but they keep on returning because they want the food 😅 When we returned from stretching our feet we found battalions of ants in our food basket and food. 🙃 The management of the place are aware of the ants issue and hopefully they will do something about them soon. Otherwise the place is great and there at no flies to bother you especially when eating.

A pleasant surprise. We had a peaceful and relaxing weekend..Food outstanding. Facilities outstanding. Rooms comfortable and spacious. Highly recommended. Staff exceptionally polite and helpful. Will definitely visit again soon

The room is lovely, the view is exquisite and the food is divine. The massage was heaven sent. And honestly it's value for money. Hubby loved being under the maple trees 🍁

A really special place to visit for a weekend away. The property is very picturesque and quiet and peaceful. The staff are courteous and the food is excellent.

Lovely relaxing picnic in the tranquil gardens. Picnic perfectly catered. Felix provided excellent service. May be time to maintain the road to the property though. (We drive a little compact vehicle.) Will definitely visit again.

Our experience at this establishment was disastrous!, where do I begin? 1) it’s rated as 5 star, by the way the place is not even listed on the Tourism Grading Council website but is seemingly just using this to lure guests, not sure if this is legal. 2) on numerous occasions the water coming out of the bathroom taps was brown in colour and therefore could not bath or shower, upon reporting this to management, we were informed that they are “filling up the tanks and that unfortunately there’s nothing that can be done as the property is on a farm”. 3) the Christmas lunch was a monumental disaster, food was served cold and dry, when we asked for gravy, the waiter told us that the kitchen has a backlog and therefore can’t be assisted. Worst of all, it took 3 Hours! for my kids food to be served (3hrs to make a cheese burger!). 4) Poor WiFi coverage in the room, very old tv and no phone to contact reception. Food and drinks are significantly overpriced. We could not even stay for the duration of our reservation and had to check out at night to escape from this place. We honestly feel defrauded of our hard-earned money.

Our expectations were greatly exceeded, everything from the atmosphere to the staff was phenomenal. The standard suite had the best view of the pool and nature, which was so peaceful.

We had a wonderfully relaxing weekend away at Budmarsh. An ideal spot to get out of the hustle and bustle of Joburg. Felix and Agreement were exceptionally attentive and super friendly - all staff in fact were wonderful! Highly recommend this gorgeous place, from the picnics, to the accommodation and delish four course dinner! We'll be back for sure

We visited for Sunday Lunch and loved everything about it. Felix served us and he was super from the start. Tasty food, beautiful setting and extremely peaceful. Really lovely day out. Only small recommendation would be to add drinks menus and a wine list to the table.

Absolute gem of a place! From the minute you arrive to the friendly smiles of the staff and the recently renovated rooms with personal welcome note on your bed… the beautiful nature and old trees, amazing little dams , wonderful private jetty to sit and reflect…. To the amazing jet bath and massage… then the most amazing food prepared immaculately… soft music and ambiance to just relax you!! The breakfast was great too! A very well run amazing lodge so close to town … it’s a get away you have to do if you want a destress and nature injection! Thank you to all at the lodge and well done! I will definitely be back soon

We came here for our first wedding anniversary and the staff were all amazing. They put in every effort to make it special the level of detail they put into everything from our dinner on Friday night to our picnic on Saturday to the Sunday lunch was outstanding. I really recommend spending time here and will gladly come again

Beautiful place, drive there was very pleasant. Entrance is dirt road, a bit bad to drive through and big ants all over the grass were you picnicking ... Gets into everything. Ideally, it was a nice break away.
