We stayed here for my wife's Bday. Pros -- Nice Place with lots of green area. Amazing Kitchen and AMAZING PIZZAS. Rooms were also good. Cons -- Sometimes Power backup does not work, you will not even get phone signals. Due to ample green area, there are many insects / mosquitoes. Pack you own water, as its a long walk to the kitchen.

Went some time ago. The service was AMAZING! Our server moved mountains for us to be able to enjoy a great sundown dinner. We had T-bone steaks and it was honestly the best I've ever had! We also enjoyed some craft Gin and beer. The overall price was also extremely reasonable for the whole experience, and even though we stay very far I will return just to visit here again.

Beautiful venue with the backdrop of the Magaliesburg mountain range. Delicious food albeit a limited menu. Also great craft beer. It's really great for families with large seating areas so can accommodate a whole lot of people and there's a play area for the kids and even a trampoline. You can take a walk on the grounds and see the horses or take a stroll in the Veg and herb garden. It gets busy on the weekends so you may want to book ahead of time.

Walking in, this place is beautiful however the ambiance on a whole is average, the food was average and the service was not great. For the beer and wine tasting, we had to look for waiters, to order food, we had to look for waiters. If you're looking for a place with beautiful gardens, definitely give it a visit, but don't go for good service or ambiance.

Great experience and very informative. Booked a gin tasting for our honeymoon. Black horse staff accommodating and very friendly. Will definitely be back. From Judene and Wesley Rich

We love the place. Beautiful, peaceful and a great experience overall. The only issue we've experienced every single time was the service at the beer tasting bar. It's not the bartender's fault, the bar is just ALWAYS understaffed over weekends when it's the busiest. The poor bartender there can't keep up.

Place is amazing but the service is horrible!! I went for father's day, first thing I was told was that they didn't have milk for coffee. We then ordered our food which took over an hour to arrive and it was cold. The waiter then brought us the wrong bill which we noticed lucky before paying it. The waiter then added tip before hand without even telling us and watched us add tip to the total which already included the tip as we didn't realize the tip was already included.

I cannot fully determine if it was the absolutely stunning Estate, or the service, or simply the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff that made our visit to Black Horse exceptional. The fare in the restaurant is pleasantly simple but extremely good. The accommodation was beautiful and very very comfortable. It is the perfect place for a quick getaway. We came away feeling rested and relaxed. We will be going back! Soon!

Booked a family lunch.. The set up is excellent, the food selection is a bit limited and not to much of a variety.. Drink menu can be improved as it does not offer too many different choices and selections..

BHB is such a beautiful venue! Absolutely stunning views. The food at both the restaurants are quite tasty and well priced. Honestly the Wine, Gin and Beer are not great. They are fine for the day - but it's not something I would write home about! It would be great if BHB also allowed for other Gin, Beers and Wines to be had. The cottages are beautiful but the bathrooms smell like urine and the hygiene is questionable. All in all it is a lovely place and a beautiful drive out there.

The venue is beautiful!!! The service could do with some improvements. Waited ages for the meal to arrive. Then they forgot to put bacon on the plate. It is not bad, but there is some improvements to be made.

Wow, what a stunning venue, fabulous food, comfortable seating with the most amazing views of the horses playing in the fields, rose gardens, amazing trees, fireplace close by. We'll definitely be back for more. Thank you Black Horse Brewery staff for friendly service.

Blackhorse Brewery is a hidden gem for families looking for a fun and unique dining experience. The eisbein and beer tasting were delicious, and the kids loved the pizza and the chance to see the wild horses that roam the property. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was relaxed and family-friendly. We would definitely recommend this place for a fun night out with the family.

We were a 2hour drive away and on the spur of the moment booked a room, talking to Stanley. What an absolute gem you have in this young man! Since speaking to him on the phone until our departure, he was brilliant. Nice big room and bathroom, very nice comfy bed. Only negative thing was early morning while having our coffee outside, the staff who were cleaning the outside restaurant area, we're extremely loud, which resulted in us gulping down the coffee and rather went inside our room again. Which is a pity, because it would have been nice enjoying the fantastic and tranquil gardens. But overall a great experience.

Absolutely stunning place! Food is good. Atmosphere is amazing. There's beer an gin tasting available. They allowed us to bring our dog with and super friendly people.

We took a drive through Magalies and visited BHB on a spur of the moment decision. It is picturesque and tranquil in a sloped garden setting - like having a table setting in a forest. The food was great. The Berry Gin Fizz Beer was our favorite. For lunch we had the Mediterranean Gnocchi and the Mushroom Risotto Balls. Took a walk around towards the beautiful black horses. It is a nice drive out, but not the best road so best to book a room if you’re having a few. Recommend booking for large groups.

What a beautiful venue. Everything is well maintained and well kept. Beer tasting, gin tasting, and candle dipping. Be sure to book a table if you are going to the restaurant although I will never lunch there....the restaurant service is horrendous, unfortunately. I waited well over an hour for my drink and eventually left (some people at our table already received theirs). Not talking about waiting for food, we left without eating. The beer is apparently from bottles and doesn't taste as it should.

Great and peaceful venue. Lovely views overlooking the garden. Some nice craft beer on tap. Burger was good and a decent home made patty.

Never been in this area before. Had breakfast at Melon Rouge Art & Eatery nearby .... decided to pop into Black Horse. Wow, it's a little village! Absolutely quaint - love the gardens and buildings. Will have to visit again to eat something and maybe stay over in their lovely rooms!!!

What an incredible wedding venue! Thank you for helping us have the wedding of our dreams! From the accommodation to the food and drinks, the friendly and helpful staff and the stunning surroundings - everything was fantastic. Thank you so much!

Yes. We popped in an hour before you closed. But you were open and we were aware of your operating hours. We were treated very ungraciously by a gent who told me I wasn't listening to him when I was in fact talking to my husband about where he could venture in his wheelchair. When we were seated where your staff deemed suitable and eventually got served, we were immediately told what was not available. And then what we did order was flat. Overall a rather negative experience and such a pity as I have been bugging my other half to make the trip out there.. normally not that disappointing

We were a very large crowd but the service was excellent and the food good and hot. Setting is very nice looking over the fields and horses.

I was there for lunch on Sunday the 18th of June (Fathers Day). We Throughly enjoyed the food. We then got to take a look at the amazing scenery around the premises, followed my a quick glance at one of the luxury rooms. Lastly, we had the most informative gin experience hosted by Douglas! He was knowledgeable, friendly and very professional, made the experience so worthwhile. A very lovely gentleman indeed!

Great location, very very very long waiting time for food. We waited about 1.5 hours for our food, when it finally arrived it was not at the same time, some of us had to eat without the others. The food was average, nothing special considering the higher than normal pricing. Also, our group of 7 had a 'service fee' included on the bill, just double check that before you add another 10% tip. Not too sure if its worth the drive out there anymore.

We had a superb view of the gardens, with the horses wandering in the Meadows. The food was great, and the live music kept us well entertained A lovely venue for a Weekemd luncheon.

We had such a lovely time at Black Horse, with 3 birthdays in Aug. Beautiful French live music. Hake and chips, steak and Chorizo, feta pasta was delicious. Drinks, service, friendliness was excellent, love visiting.

Lovely venue and layout, food and beer is overpriced for what you get, we had 2 little pony breakfast @R90 food was cold bacon was hard and cold, and the toast was cold. I enjoyed the beer. Nice to see but been there, done that.

  • 5/5 Alvin N. 1 year ago on Google
My wife and I stopped for a bit of lunch. We were so pleasantly surprised by the live French music softly being sung as we entered. This is not a typical restaurant. It’s so beautiful and I would suggest that you dine outdoors.

One of our preferred destinations for breakfast runs (cars and bikes), it amazes us every time! Extremely good coffee, great beer (from their own brewery), a wide selection of delicious food and one of the best views in the area. A must visit.

We chose this place at random after visiting the Maropeng site (part of the Cradle of Humankind) and were quite pleased. Great taster board of their craft brews. Good tramezzini. Nice outdoor seating area. Loved the stable/horse theme. And as a bonus, we got a great, sunny winter day.

👍👍 What a peaceful place to visit. The doggy menu is better than the human one, but the food was very "English Pub" rather than "restaurant" quality. But still good. Prices are very reasonable, let's face it, you are going here for a doggie day out.
