Excellent hotel with amazing service. The happy hour is a must and the restaurant food was great. Pizza is big enough to feed 2 to 3 people... Order 15 shots at happy hour and you get a bottle at the same price as the shops. This is great value in an amazing setting and pool... Ask for the daily specials...

Went on a business trip and enjoyed my stay in the recently renovated hotel and rooms. The service was excellent especially by the Food and Beverage manager, Samir Ramdial. I arrived at the hotel after 10h30pm and the restaurant was closed. I was absolutely starved yet they went out of their way and still prepared my favourite dish - seared salmon with fresh veg. Well done!!! 10/10. I will definitely return.

We had dinner at the restaurant. My guest only eats uncooked food. The Chef put together a delicious platter of smoked salmon, olives, feta and a variety of veggies which she enjoyed immensely. My meal was a succulent burger. Fabulous ambiance with views of the garden. Peaceful and elegant.

Decided to check out the Protea brand during my two weeks trip in South Africa so I booked a night stay at Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Wanderers. I was surprised to be given a proactive upgrade to the “Presidential Suite” located on the highest floor (7th). A pleasure stay with generally helpful staff; no “extra” perks other than a welcome note and snacks (fruits nuts and biltong). The gym was well equipped and spacious, located in car park basement. Breakfast in the restaurant was rather crowded and chaotic during my stay (10 Oct 2023) Too bad the brand has a reduced rate for earning Marriott Bonvoy ENC and points (5 points / USD) otherwise it would have been a great option for repeat stays.

A perfect business destination in the heart of Johannesburg city. Nice ambience, fantastic service, great atmosphere and a picturesque landscape. See it to believe it👍

The perfect break-away from the Jozi hustle and bustle right next door to the Wanderer's Club. The service is excellent, the rooms are simple and luxurious, the food is mouth-wateringly delicious, compliments to the chefs!!! I absolutely enjoyed my stay. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

This is a better Protea experience. I stayed in a lot of them in SA and JB Proteas are better than most. The best one I experienced was in Capetown. Nelspruit Protea close to Kruger was the worse value. Overpriced and run down.

We ate at the restaurant, and the food was very average, actually less than average. The prices were definitely not average though. The restaurant is clean and well appointed, but that doesn't even come close to making up for the food... If you are staying at the hotel, skip the hotel's restaurant, there are better restaurants around the area.

Great trip The check in was smooth and fast. And the lady who helped me was exceptional She offered the best service and even changed the room to give me a double bed. The reception area is wonderful and with books on the tables, you won't mind waiting for your friends or service for a longer period. However they should always be communication between the restaurant and and the reception staff to avoid giving contradictory information. We nearly missed Buffett dinner because of such. All in all the place is great though I feel the rooms are a bit small.

Good facilities and decent overall, but had an unpleasant encounter when ordering room service on my last night. Seemed like they may be severely understaffed or in need of better training. Sent feedback through email but was left unanswered. Had better service at other Protea properties, will consider them next time in instead or different brand altogether.

Love the vibe of the place. Amazing employees who are always available to assist. Great place for even lunchtime with coffee to die for ( and cake) excellent food and cocktails for after work drinks, in a beautiful setting

Unfortunately when we visited the swimming pool wasn't clean and had some housekeeping problems but it's a nice hotel in the middle of Joburg. Feels safe and the rooms, food and staff are all good. It's close to Rosebank and Sandton so its really convenient for looking around

So… Possibly a bad day but the restaurant made me wait 1 hour before telling me my choice was out of stock. Having said that, generally I have great service at the restaurant.

A beautiful hotel with spacious rooms, excellent food and very friendly staff. The only complaint mentioned by a colleuage was that it was a bit noisy in her room which was situated right above the outside eating area otherwise everything else was exceptionally good.

One of the great hotel I've stayed. Cozy and comfort room, friendly staff and great dining option too. Love their bar and tried their local draught beer castle. Absolutely refreshing and I enjoy it very much.

If you get a room next to a road... It will be very noisy because the window are not sound proof. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful especially JACOB. He is also the driver that send you to the shopping mall. He should be giving the best staff of the year. Great smiles from him. Keep it up 👍

We stayed at the Protea Hotel Johannesburg Wanderers and We're deeply disappointed. The room we were offered was completely unacceptable. The curtains had visible stains and the windows were dirty. The shower had loose screws that made it feel very unsafe. The restaurant had terrible service dressing were shared between tables. The pool could have been heated since its winter now! On top of all of this, we were woken up early one morning by Grace and Kgaugelo who wanted to clean the room, which was highly unacceptable with a loud knocking sound. The only good service that we received was from Gabriel, Lucky and Stephan they were exceptional and friendly. But still, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and would never want to stay there again. Unless there is a confirmation that all these were adequately addressed.

The staff are very friendly. The meals from their menu are divine, you must try the salmon - absolutely delicious. The buffet is okay, I prefer ordering from the menu.

They are on the entertainer app, which I always love. We used to be regulars as they were one of the few restaurants open after 10 on a Monday, the deck is a great spot to sit for a glass of wine. They have some great crowd pleasing wine.

I’m from Singapore 🇸🇬 Beautiful hotel, staffs are friendly and professional, there’s a free shuttle to go to nearby mall Mandela Square or Rosebank mall, bed is really comfortable and the sound insulation is really good, I can’t hear a thing when I’m in my room, good for a getaway holiday hotel to the safari too, highly recommended

The front desk was not helpful at all. They kind of look at you lost and confused. In fact I am still waiting on my final bill for which I called 30 minutes ago and was told she sent the bill through email. The front desk does a terrible job with emails and answering the phone. I would expect a better service with me being a Gold Elite member but I felt treated regularly. I never received my welcome gift and the only bright spot was the front desk clerk his name was Gift. He was full of energy and positive. Also Albert who works in the restaurant as the server was a great Gentleman and made sure me and my party of 4 was highly taken care of. Also the next two people what put a smile on me and my party of 4 was the travel young lady and our driver. I can’t remember here name but she has positive demeanor. She sits on the side of the front desk and books the tours. Our Driver was also great. I am Mr. HEARD

Great buffet Thank you to the amazing team . They treated me so well on my birthday. Sadly I forgot the managers name who was on duty on the day. He organized a huge slice of cake. Sang for me. Guys make a turn you'll never regret. The environment is amazing. They even have live performance 👌🏾🥰🥰🥰🥰💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾❤❤❤❤❤❤ can't wait to visit again.

Restaurant service is slacking. Bar service, breakfast service not the greatest. I had to walk around and out of the restaurant to find staff for breakfast. Rooms are always good.

This hotel's rooms are older and the location is for someone who is okay staying in the suburbs of a city when visiting. Some of the folks there were great, but the service or their processes were not the best. The website has a complimentary airport shuttle, however, there is a fee for the hotel shuttle. Also, shuttle times were not presented and even the front desk gave conflicting times for the unpaid shuttle routes. I was also told a couple of times to take an Uber. If there is a complimentary service, advertise there I don't think folks should be directed to Uber for the convenience of the hotel. The shuttle runs every 2 hours so money spent on an Uber is better spent on your return home. The hotel also gives an option to pay for incidentals in advance or pay as you go. My choice was to pay in advance and every time I dined someone called my room to tell me to come and pay so I stopped eating at the hotel restaurant. I understand it happening once, but after that, there is no excuse, check with the front desk or use a system to identify guests that paid in advance. DO NOT use the tours advertised by the tour group at the hotel, it's not a tour, It's a shuttle service with a driver that goes to the window buys your ticket(s) for each museum, and sends you on your way. You can do this on your own. It's a safety blanket if you are not comfortable going about on transportation not associated with the hotel. It is an OVER price driver the only advantage is you can leave your bag in the car. An Uber black can drop for a lot cheaper or do the hop on hop off bus and find a real guide for the Safari and other tours outside the city.

the room was honestly the best thing. and it is super close to Wanderers Squash Club. The area itself is not the nicest one. you have about 35-40min to the airport. one way with an uber / taxi should cost you not more than 500-600 rand with a mercedes. the service was nice. i just had breakfast and that wasnt worth it.. i only stayed for one night, definitely worth it if you are there for any sports related thing. otherwise i would have choosen another hotel i guess.

Wish I had taken more photos ! We had a great dinner here , initially the service was very slow but it picked up to a good pace. We had fishcakes for starters , butter chicken curry/spaghetti and meatballs for mains and finished off with a baked cheesecake with blueberries. There was also live entertainment , one guy who was singing etc and creating a lovely atmosphere! Overall was great and will be back ;)

Great service, super professional staff from the gate until you check out. 7th floor rooms temperature control was really giving us a hard time I must lament, but thankfully the situation was well handled accordingly and we were more than happy. DEFINITELY GOING BACK.

Covid protocols are important. But how you implement them is the difference between a 4 star venue and a 2 star rating.

Very tasty food. The chicken burger, chips and cheesecake were good. As was the breakfast, omelette particularly. The towels had some spots though.

Room service is shocking. Food is horrible. Brought up in boxes and terribly over priced. Also had to ask for spoons to eat and glasses for cooldrinks. And the ice we requested never arrived. Spoilt our stay.

Oh my word, what a beautiful Protea Hotel. I only met my Neice who was staying at the hotel for coffee. Right from the gate guard to the Hotel door guard doing his "Covid" checking I was treated so respectfully. The dining room was spotless with beautiful big windows looking out onto the lovely gardens. The restrooms were amazing. I look forward to my next visit.

I attended a private function on the events deck. From entry onto the property to the reception area all the hotel staff were courteous and helpful. Covid protocols were followed and several hand sanitizers are positioned through out the reception and restaurants. The view of the pool is stunning with the blue lights and the event venue abs catering were top-tier. I will definitely go there for sundowners and to relax.

A very stylish version of the usual Protea hotel. Great updated interior design from lobby to room. All the required / desired mod-cons available. Nice neighborhood and pretty views from the rooms.

The room was lovely and comfortable. The view is amazing. The service was amazing. The pool is stunning. But, the bathroom was very ancient and needs upgrading. Also the tiling is visibly deteriorated.

For me this is a special place. I needed help at short notice while I was staying at the hotel and the staff really did everything they could and more. They are really nice people. The rooms were spotless and the beds are very comfortable. The food is delicious. I gather that a lot of the staff on the floor and in the kitchens are hotel trainees, but they are trained superbly, very efficient always polite and nothing is too much trouble. I don't expect to be in Jo'burg too often but if I am back, this is where I will stay

Fantastic place for a quick drink. Beautiful outdoor area with an infinity pool and spectacular view of Joburg. They have daily meal specials and happy hour every day between 6 and 7pm. Also a lovely place to take someone on a date. It is equally good for a drink and meal with friends. My friends couldn't believe how affordable the place was! The Service is always super friendly. I've never had a bad time there and it's currently my favourite hangout spot in Joburg.

had a very unpleasant stay. The beds were fine but there was a party in the lobby until 2/3 AM, which could be heard LOUDLY in our hotel room, resulting in a sleepless night for the both of us. Also ordered a vegetarian burger in the restaurant and got served real meat. The rooms were again fine, but the service was not it.

We always enjoy our stay here but try last week when we booked in l was assigned a Ground floor room and when l requested a room higher up with a view l was told they were fully booked. I then had to haul my suitcase, laptop bag and handbag up a flight if stairs with no offer of assistance from the staff on duty - they were talking and laughing. The room was ok, tge curtain unhooked at top and it was noisy. Not an enjoyable stay this time.

Recently Visited the resturant at protea hotel by wanderers, and had a wonderful meal, the service was good, the staff was friendly and welcomed us warmly. I liked the fact that their hospitality was as good as if we were their hotel guests, where as other hotel resturants fail to maintain that kind of service. Quite impressed and would definetly visit again 😊
