An excellent chippy! Not many vegan options though.

My second time in West Kirby and The Marigolds. I order Large Fish and Chip meal with gravy sauce. Absolutely satisfied 😄 The fish is as the name says, it’s large and reasonable with the price, and the battle is perfect, not greasy and goes well with the fish. The gravy sauce is also amazing, honestly I don’t really enjoy fish and chip with gravy, but I must say the gravy here is brilliant: thick and delicious. It’s so good that I can finish its whole cup. If I visit West Kirby again, I will surely come back 😄

Hi there, we visited here with high expectations after the many good reviews. Where do I start, the price was way to expensive for the quality of the dish. The fish didn't taste fresh it was dry and definitely not sucliant. The chips were chewy and lacking any texture. The more I think about it the more I feel ill. Overall extremely disappointed and won't be back.

Fantastic chippy, I've had the fish in here and it's well cooked, with light, crispy, flavourful batter but loses a point as you can no longer sit in and it was fairly expensive; £4.50 for a chip barm and a drink

Needed an afternoon out with a inexpensive late lunch, so took a drive over from north Wales, had a look around Gordale, took a walk around Heswall with a stop for a coffee and then onto Marigolds for a fish and chip tea on the prom. I ordered large fish and chips and chips and peas with a buttered role. The order was ready very quickly and never thought to much about it until a bit later, the girl passed me my order and I noticed there was only 1 tray of food, i asked what she had given me, she said, fish chips and peas. I said No it was fish and chips and chips and peas, she apologised, so I said just take the fish off and add it to a tray of chips and that would be ok. I asked about paying extra for the chips, she said it's ok, so I assumed she had given me the chips FOC for the miss understanding, so i went on my merry way looking forward to my tea, the last time we had fish and chips here was just before the first lock down. Sadly the prom had no parking due to building sea defences so we headed off the the country park. When I opened the bag, chips and peas in one tray, great!! Next tray fish with no chips 😡 to make things worse the fish was disgusting it was dry and crumbling and the batter was soggy. I did think the order was ready pritty quick, I now know the fish wasn't cooked fresh and must have been sitting in the Warmer for ages. I must say we have always enjoyed a fish and chip tea at Marigolds but from my recent experience I doubt I'd go again 😔 it was an expensive meal, but the birds enjoyed it ," i think" what is the cost of large fish chips and peas? ,£ 10.60... plus 60p for the bread roll

Visited Marigolds for the first time and was pleasantly surprised that the reviews I've read on Google was accurate. Marigolds is well situated on a nice street in West kirby , its close to the beach ⛱ and other local amenities. Upon arrival we was served promptly and our fish 🐟 and chips 🍟 arrived freshly cooked and it was a very big fish portion ,well worth the money. The 🐟 was moist and batter crispy. I would of liked the chips cooked a bit longer but that's a matter of personal taste. Overall Marigolds is well worth a visit if you're in West kirby. We enjoyed our fish and and chips luncheon. Definitely give it a try 👍🏻

Absolutely the best fish and chips I've eaten. Crispy batter. Light, fluffy fish. Perfectly cooked chips. The portion sizes are very generous and the quality of the ingredients is perfect. They clearly use fresh fish, not frozen! Really friendly staff who are always smiling.

Great menu recommend more to go here. The waiter may of spilled a glass of coke all over my 2 month old son but accidents happen. However was very apologetic and offered to clean it of him with his tongue. Great place will come again.

Really delicious fish and chips; crispy batter, fresh fish and perfect chips. The owner of Marigold’s went out of his way to help us; a big thank you. Highly recommended!

I’ve noticed that the food quality is inconsistent and yesterday’s takeaway was not great. The two fish were very dry and chips were barely warm. The pie and gravy were good. I keep giving this place another try and hoping I will catch it on a good day.

Lovely place, very polite staff. The food is served at a very good pace, the portion sizes are good (mushy peas were delicious!) and I loved the fact that they serve ice cream from the Cheshire Ice Cream Farm! All in all, lovely! 5*

Ordered through Deliveroo. Had a large fish meal. Bit into my fish and got a mouthful of fish bones. Bit grim that tbh. Food was decent otherwise…

So much wrong with dinner here tonight. The place only takes cash, very peculiar in 2023. Politely asked to get cash out but nearest cash machine was out of service. Ordered fish and chips, a dish that any fish and chip shop should get right? Unfortunately, the fish was taken from a large selection of pre cooked fish, which turned out to be soggy after driving less than 5 minutes down the road. The chips were rubbery and cold and the curry (mild) was full of thickener so came out like jelly. I’d recommend getting a card machine (you may have to pay a small fee but so much more convenient for all of your customers) and not stockpiling cooked fish. Lovely staff, but just a poor experience. I’ve not added a photo as it would be unfair to the team there.

Delicious fish and chips. Thick and moist fish with thin crispy batter. The chips (fries) was good, but a bit too soft to my liking. Good value for the price. Two large fish and chips, and one box of 8 scampis fed 3 adults and 2 kids full.  I'd not recommend the scampis though.  Some were not fully cooked and too tiny. I could only taste the thick batter, not the scampis. Also, not a good place to get salad, which lettuce was not fresh. This 5 stars is only for the fish and chips. Don't forget to buy ketchup and tartar sauces. They are not included!  Long 30 minutes line up when I went there at late dinner time, but no line up at early lunch time. Good service.

Awaiting a new card payment system the signs suggest but went 2 weeks ago and paid card but had to Deliveroo order this time from outside. Slightly annoying. Food as delicious as ever. Felt ordering through Deliveroo the gravy/curry portions came in pots so was smaller. When we were able to pay card and order at the till, the gravy and curry was over the dinner and seemed more! Buttered bun was dry to eat! That was the only food issue. Maybe this could be attributed to the smaller portions of curry/gravy. Don’t know. Fish was fresh and well cooked.

Fantastic traditional fish and chips - taste amazing. But be aware they don't take card payments so you need cash - which is crazy! Can be long queues as so popular.

Cash only. Meal deal is very good value. Ordered 3 sausage, chips, and gravy with 3 drinks for under £17. Decent portions and the chips were lovely. Cash available from the NatWest next door. Very busy and not many places outside to sit.

My No 1 fish n chip shop for 48 years-the Acropolis in Ormskirk- has just been knocked off by Marigolds in West Kirkby!!! Large fish n cup dinner c. 10 pounds got me massive piece of perfectly cooked cod, pot of more than enough mushy peas and similar pot of gravy plus perfectly cooked proper chips. They use super fresh fish cooked to order in Beautiful batter -very different - perfect, chips excellent.Highly recommend and hope to go again!!

Response to reply: Thank you very much for getting back to me so swiftly. I really appreciate it! Your apology means a lot and thank you for looking into my experience today. Marigold’s has always had such a wonderful reputation and the best fish and chips in West Kirby. That’s what made today even more disheartening, I have only ever had positive experiences at Marigolds. Regardless of today, I hope our visit in a couple of weeks time will rectify this disappointing experience today and I will be able to remove my review. Visited Marigolds today as part of a risk assessment I am doing to take my school class to the beach. I was absolutely flabbergasted by the lack of customer service at Marigolds. I asked to speak to the manager and I was told I would not be able to. The unprofessional cashier was very nonchalant and said no matter what time or day I would go to Marigolds, I would not be able to talk to the manager. Bizarre! My primary school class are visiting the beach for the first time and I had thought Marigolds would be the perfect place to celebrate their first trip to the beach. We are an SEN nurture base from a deprived area. The staff at Marigolds couldn’t have cared less! One of my class has Type 1 diabetes so I enquired with regards to counting the carbohydrate’s so he will be able to have insulin before eating at Marigolds. The staff were completely uninterested and had a real lack of care. The least inclusive place I have ever come across! I have visited Marigolds ever since I can remember but I’m not sure what has changed. Whether that be the management or staff. What used to be a friendly well loved local fish and chip shop has become a hostile place with complete lack of customer service and any sort of professionalism.

A gluten free large fish chips and mushy peas is always a special treat. The fish is succulent and plentiful

Came here on Sunday afternoon and ordered fish and chips and sausage and chips. Unfortunately my fish was extremely dry and didn't taste like fish should taste!! Not sure if this was cod or haddock as I never got asked and can't see a menu on the wall. Hopefully it is a one off!! Used to love coming here when it was a eat-in cafe, sad that they had to change it!!

Bit expensive £12.50 for gluten free fish n chips but it was nice ... take a few tips from milton fish and chips in stoke !!! The girl serving had longhair and not tied back .. very unhygienic ....at the end of the day its a fish and chip shop ...nothing fantastic but expensive .....

We got gluten-free fish and chips for our coeliac daughters and whole breast chicken chunks for my son, all of which were delicious. If only I'd got the scampi for myself because it looked amazing!

I was really impressed with this place. I had the GF large fish and chips and the portion size was good. There was a big queue outside the door but the staff were friendly and it was all very quick. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Wirral area. We travelled to West Kirby just to go here :)
