What a lovely gem this place it . I was here for the trail , it's more of a walk then a hike .The trail is largely flat and filled with lush vegetation and great views. If you need a place to clear your head this may be it . The trail is a 7km loop so no matter where you behind that's where you will end your walk. Trail is well marked so you won't get lost . Bring water as I didn't see any taps there . If you lucky you will see a lot of wild life without having to stray of the path .

We came for a day visit at the picnic / fishing grounds. The park itself is not that well maintained as there are a lot of grass and bush, however the campgrounds and fishing spots are wide open space with fireplaces, ablutions and lapas making it very convenient to set up. The dam is clean, but the common water hyacinth can become annoying and ruin your fishing experience when the wind is blowing the wrong direction. The entrance fee is well priced making it one of the few places that does not cost a fortune just for getting out for a day.

The hiking trail is a semi technical mountain bike trail with some loose rocks and a muddy spot or two, good inclines and down hills. With the wild animals you meet along the track its really worth the cycling. Even the brick paved roads is a family friendly option. We had a good time an will definitely do it again.

Roodeplaat is the hidden gem of Pretoria and surroundings. It is not big, but there are some beautiful spots to have lunch, hike or mountainbike. The roads are good, the people friendly and the animals in good condition. Entering the park is quick and cheap. Check out the several bird and game hides! There’s a 7km hike around the park as well, well indicated and well maintained.

Good choice if you like to rough it. No proper bathrooms, but they do have decent long drops in brick buildings. The dam is kept pretty clean. Camping sites are clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend away from the everyday hustle. No electricity. Taps with running water close to camping sites.

Beautiful place. Great view over the dam. Restaurant is just extremely expensive. 3 bottles of water, and a can of Coke = R105 Rediculous.

Well, it depends on your needs. If you are going fishing, sure it is 4 stars. Not bad, although some days are tough. But the dam itself is not the best, nor are the surrounding. But still lovely day out

Great baecation at this faircity hotel located at the roodeplaat dam kameeldrift East.Great for walking anytime, safe, fishing and hosting events and weddings or picnics at the dam. The food is great prepared by the chefs in-house buffet, great pools and gardens outdoors to relax and enjoy with your friends and family. Reasonable affordable price for holiday or conferences.

I have visited Roodeplaat Nature Reserve twice; once for hiking and another time to stay at the Bush Guest House. The hiking trail is well-maintained and, although not particularly challenging, offers a fun time for the whole family. The trail is also picturesque with beautiful scenery all around. Additionally, the accommodation at the guest house was top-notch. All amenities were well-maintained and fully functional. I am definitely planning to visit the reserve again in the future.

Very nice, quite place to go to rest and relax. Take a basket to jave a picnic, take some meat to braai or simply take a book and blanket and read and relax. They are building a play area for the kiddies and have bird hides and a hiking trail.

Beautiful dam, great housekeeping. Security is tight but with great service. Algae level in the dam is too high though

The following comment is regarding the boat launch area. If I had the option to choose no star, I would have. The abolition facilities are absolutely discusting. The weeds have taken over the nice lawns that used to be there. The weeds is not even trimmed nevermind removed. I will definitely not recommend this place. Such a pitty....

Dam view was the highlight. R26 entrance fee ( p/p and per car). There's a shaded picnic area,Β  with braai facilities. The hiking trail had overgrown vegetation in this instance. There's chalets for accommodation.

Quite bushy, not well maintained. Great fishing spots and boat ride areas. Bathrooms not up to standard Affordable and braai spots a little far from each other to give the privacy needed

Long queues for food, food not too good. Need an ice cream stand. I don't know if this has anything to do with you but a more fiery commentator is needed with more loudspeakers. Facing the dam we were sitting on the left hand side & couldn't hear a thing. So annoying!@

I was on a three day business trip at Roodvalley Premier Hotel. The facility is a fair three star hotel located on the banks of Roodeplaat dam with excellent views. As busy as I was, working and enjoying lunch in the great outdoors was a needed refresher.

Reserve in bad shape. entrance fee is charged per car and per occupant in the car! for the amount we paid you would think the place would be in better shape. Grass was so long , not enough lapa’s. Upside was that we had a good family day despite the disappointment of the reserve.

Hiking trails, Picnic area, birdhide and ablution are all well kept. One of my favorite nature get aways near Montana.
