Great trails for local Hiking. If you are visiting from out of state, keep in mind that this is West Virginia, don’t expect anything grand or spectacular. The garden itself is kinda small but pretty during full bloom in summer. But the main attraction for me are the trails. I’ve spent hours hiking through the trails and don’t think I’ve visited them all yet. I particularly enjoy going in the fall when the leaves turn colors. It’s gorgeous and not too hot. It’s a nice place to go get some cardio and enjoy nature for a while.

The botanical gardens are always a wonderful place to hike, explore, and look at flowers. It has short, mid, and longer paths in the forest to walk through and some are more of a light hike, they have a children's play section, hammocks, they allow pets on leashes(work owners who pick up after them,) a meditation garden, a fairy garden, plenty of educational signs and interesting things to learn about, and all year round there's something to stroll there for flowers to leaves changing. It's a charming place to have a family outing or a great place to hike and center yourself. Thank you Botanical Gardens!!

This botanic garden is almost a hidden gem – I have not seen it crowded here! Its just a quick drive from Morgantown but you wouldn’t know once you are here. Beautifully situated along a wildlife area. This is a very natural looking botanic garden; they did a great job highlighting the local vegetation and terrain. It’s a nice layout with quite a few little trails and sections to try out. Some cool things for kids to explore as well such as the Fairy Garden. Cute little obstacles, connections, and bridges make it all the more exciting! The boardwalk was especially fun for my kiddo! Trees provide lots of shade even in the summer so it’s a great place to visit all year round. There are signs throughout the garden that discuss historical aspects and their significance to the area - so lots of opportunities to learn! Looks like a pretty neat event space as well. Looking forward to seeing the planned updates they highlighted in their “Master Plan”. The plans showed some great educational sections and even an open pool. There is a "Little Free Library" at the parking lot which is always a plus :)!

In looking for spots to visit while on vacation, we found the West Virginia Botanic Garden. This is a wonderful and (what feels like) hidden gem within West Virginia. There is a beautiful pollinator garden where you can watch multiple bees and butterflies enjoy the flowers. There are multiple walking trails, clearly marked, that take you through the woods. As the website for the Botanic Garden tells you, don't be scared when you start hearing the sounds of gunshots in the distance - the Garden is (safely oriented) neighbors with the Mason Dixon Rifle Club. For a free, beautiful, outdoor experience, I definitely recommend this place!

Beautiful grounds. Lots of options for paths to walk, or even get some trail running in. Very calm and peaceful and quiet. Absolutely love the hammock section, too. Could spend hours just laying, taking it all in. Would absolutely visit frequently if I lived in the area.

The Botanic Garden in Morgantown is a nice place to take as long of a hike through their many different trails as you'd like. The trails are accessible and not overly challenging so they should be able to be done by people of most fitness levels. The gardens themselves are beautiful, with the plants clearly labeled. We saw several people walking their dogs, and the dogs all looked very happy so this would be a great afternoon activity to do with your pup. Parking is plentiful, with several options depending on where you would prefer to start your visit. The roads are easy to get into and out of. One additional thing I noticed during our visit was that the trails here were much less muddy than most of the other trails we've been to lately, even though it had been raining heavily just the day before. It looks like the staff have taken several steps to mitigate water standing in the trails themselves, with drainage leading away from the trails in most of the problem areas. This was very appreciated and something I wish more parks in our state would implement.

I spent the morning today walking most of the trails at the WV Botanic Gardens. Spring is just starting to poke its head above ground. If you’re looking for a free, very peaceful, and flat place to walk, you will enjoy the botanic gardens. I can’t wait for the trees to bud and the flowers to start to bloom. Here are a few pictures of what the gardens looked like today.

I had never been here before. I came to get the geocaches. The lab caches and other caches in the park were easily accessible. I found labs, mysteries, earth, letterbox, and regulars. We got all but the one mystery as our time was limited. I hope to come back and do this one soon with the family. It was a very informative hike and extremely easy. This place was hopping lots of small kids out hitting the trail and pets also. Was not crowded but we saw people on every trail. This is a must visit place for me. It is an awesome place I will be back

Gorgeous and wild West Virginia. Not only is there a great variety of plants and even biomes in my opinion but i honestly lost track of how many and how many different mushrooms there were (summer mind you). The parking weaves through the area for easier access to other parts of the gardens. There are events held here and it looks like there additions are coming along nice

Leaves were beautiful, but I can't fairly review a botanical garden in the "off" season. I'll go back in the spring. Trails were wide, flat and well maintained. Some interesting history here as well if you stop to read the signs.

Love this place! Beautiful scenery. Lots of clear walking pathes. The fairy gardens are really neat. The kids park is clean and a great place for the kidos to enjoy themselves. Lots of beautiful plants and flowers. Just an all around beautiful place.

Love going and exploring with my kids! Beautiful relaxing environment! Even when there’s a lot of people it doesn’t seem like it. Definitely a great place for outside family activity.

We were so excited to visit the West Virginia Botanic Garden while passing through from PA to our hometown of Clarksburg. Did you know there is an area called “The Secret Garden” here? It is an amazing area of the gardens that makes you want to just curl up in a lounge chair and read. Stones path liners, plants in all directions….off by itself in its own little world. Truly a beautiful place! The gardens are a lovely place to visit.

A lovely little place for outdoor adventure. Theres a lot of trails winding their way through the property. We went on a perfect day after a fresh morning rain with a slightly overcast sky, which made the hike enjoyable. I think we hit almost every single trail. If you like a quiet get away that cost you nothing this is a hidden gem

Before visiting the botanical garden, we thought it was a relatively small botanical garden, but it is quite large. It's more like a system of natural trails and some curated plants. It's a great place for a walk and bringing your pets with you.

It wasn’t what i was expecting but i really liked it. I was thinking manicured gardens of different styles but this was much more natural- like a nature trail with lots if native planting and natural habitats. It was lightly raining during our visit but the tree canopy kept us dry. Definitely glad we visited.

Beautiful settings for fabulous trails! An employee who I encountered just off the parking lot gave me a brief history and status of the gardens. He was super nice! I thoroughly enjoyed exploring most of the trails.

Gorgeous botanical garden in a reformed reservoir. Cannot wait to see what the future grows here.

Wonderful, scenic trails with neat little placards by certain plants. Everything’s easily walkable; you could probably do it in Crocs. It’s a great place to bird, too, with all the different habitats right by each other.

Very nice and relaxing. I loved the signage so I could see what the names of the trees were. It would be nice to see even more:). If I didn’t live so far away, I’d definitely be back. I highly recommend this place.

This place is more wonderful hiking trails than it is a garden. I feel like they are still adding to it to make it nicer in the future. The cost is pay by donation. And they suggest $4 per person. There is bathroom facilities available at the very beginning. There isn't a lot of signs to tell you what the plants are. There are trails that are gravel which is about 0.75 mile long loop, and there are wooded trails that have tree roots and dirt trail. I would bring bug spray as I got bit by mosquitoes while sitting on the hammock.

I love the Botanic Gardens. I moved here almost a year ago and have consistently came out here to walk my dogs. They love it as much as I do! We like going early in the mornings when we have the place basically to ourselves. You do need to park in the top lot if you want to come before or after hours, but the walk down on the hillside trail is lovely. One note, there is a gun range close by and you will hear the gunshots, which is another reason we like to come early before that starts up. Just a wonderful place to spend times outdoors!

Apparently I have been here 5 years ago... And I couldn't remember until I pulled up into the parking lot! I remember not liking this garden, and my feeling was somewhat validated today. I parked at the lot at the entrance, and took the Hillside Trail to the gardens, which was very rocky. This botanic gardens is soooo different that all the others I visited. This is more like an arboretum. There are a lot of tall trees and the trails can easily be missed if not paying attention. What I dislike most is that the roads are all gravel, which makes it difficult and can be painful for my little pups to walk on. I found the wetland boardwalk which is my favorite part so far. It got there late and will need to come back and explore the trail section. Maybe there is more to see. I will update my review once I get to do that.

We went right at the beginning of Spring when some flowers were starting to bloom so many things were still coming back/dead from the winter time. However we still got to see some beautiful flowers! The circle trail around is a little long but manageable. Our 2 5 yeat old almost made it bit had to be carried at the end. You can break off but be prepared to get muddy. There is some construction going on in the area too that is a little distracting. Overall it's a very nice and relaxing area, but I wish we were able to come at a better time!
