I have appreciated Old City Coffee for a long time. It was the first coffee shop that I ever went to in the city (2018, before I moved to PHI). But back then, they had seating! I really miss having a place to sit inside the shop. Now, I snag one of the areas outside (no chairs/tables) to sit and have my usual croissant and espresso. I love the vibe of the area outside the shop (Church St). Great for writing and thinking. But please, bring back seating!

Im in love with this place. People that work here are very nice and sweet. Coffee is really good and their pastries are beyond delicious. Their homemade muffins are my fav.

Old City Coffee is our favorite coffee. The coffee beans are ground fresh. We usually get our coffee from the Reading terminal but we visited this location the other night. What a well kept, clean store. We opted for a green matcha and it was delicious! Such a quaint store!

This location has been one of my regular stops for more than 10 years. If your looking for fresh, locally roasted coffee this is it. This location is situated on one of Philly's oldest cobblestone streets. The store itself is pretty tight to get in and out of. The iced coffee is definitely the strongest in the area.

A nice little cafe located conveniently and is super busy with locals and tourists, even in the early morning hours. Good coffee and they’ve a lot of blends. Easy grab breakfast available with seating options. Appreciate the good service and cheerful staff.

Original little coffee with his own ambiance in this area surrounded by history’s and beautiful houses. A good stop to taste one of the many coffee flavours and feel good with a fresh and different coffee experience.

Pros: - tasty coffee - historical neighborhood Cons: - many visitors and very limited seating - strange proportions in yogurt parfait ( lots of granola, very little yogurt, hence very dry) - no synchronization between self-order stand and order at counter ( several items ordered and paid for online were not available when picking up order at counter, and although alternatives were offered, it was a bit unpleasant that the last croissants were taken by someone who ordered them at the counter AFTER I ordered a croissant in the cafe-based online system). - higher prices than in other similar venues of the city

Definitely my favorite Café in Old City and all of Philadelphia. It's a small Café that serves all your senses. Old City Coffee is a coffee store selling some wonderful coffee bean variants, filters and other equipment. They also run as a Café with lots of coffee options and fresh bakes. You can also use the self service kiosk for coffee of the day to get you a togo cuppa. Check out their decor of old coffee brand labels. Even stepping into this Café takes you over with the aroma of coffee.

Cute. Awesome mint hot chocolate! As someone who hates coffee was great to be able to enjoy a coffee shop with a friend and get a warm beverage.

Super cute spot. I almost missed it cause it’s in a small side street. It’s cozy and everyone was so nice. They have a great selection of teas as well. You can actually buy loose tea from them! I went for the iced chai tea latte and I really enjoyed it cause it wasn’t overwhelming. It was refreshing and mildly sweet.

Passionate baristas and tasty coffee, 6 bean espresso will get ya moving! First time seeing a fresh mint plant for their collection of teas, nice touch

It's a small shop, but has seating available. The coffee is well-made and the staff is friendly. 10 times more flavorful than a Starbucks, and the prices are fair. Definitely give this spot a try.

  • 5/5 Melissa M. 5 years ago on Google
Not cheap at all but you can definitely taste the quality. The baristas actually care about the drinks that they put out which is nice to see.

Coffee tastes good (though I had a latte). They follow covid protocol to the letter (no straws...plexiglass everywhere ... no indoor or outdoor! seating. But their most egregious offense is that their customer service is robotic. No attempt to engage customers.

Best coffee in Philly!!! Love their cappuccino malted milkshake... strong flavor, way better than anything from Starbucks! At the Readding terminal location I usually get a Coffee Frappuccino with maple syrup. However this location didn't offer the frap option. The milkshake was just as delicious tho.

I come here multiple times a week for coffee and the occasional pastry, which are good. What makes this place special, however, is the customer service. The staff here (as well as at the Reading Terminal location) is always really pleasant & kind, & for that reason I’ll keep coming back :).

What a beautiful hidden gem nestled in the heart of the old city. Great drip coffee, and I really appreciate how they put all the milks and sweeteners out so you can craft your coffee to your liking. The staff was very friendly, and the granola and yogurt was a nice snack.

  • 1/5 Polina B. 1 year ago on Google
This place is mentioned in so many guides but I really don’t understand why. The coffee is really bad, it’s burnt, bitter, they have 4 sizes and medium size looks like extra large one which means it’s not a coffee anymore. Tiny, boring interior. The only nice thing about this place is the street where it’s located

  • 5/5 Rachel L. 1 year ago on Google
A weekly pilgrimage to this wonderful place. I love coming here and seeing the warm and kind familiar faces. Everyone takes a moment to get to know you and to know your usual order. The coffee quality is superb! The sizes are generous and the prices are very fair. They carry a very wide selection of coffee beans and teas. The chai lattes, matchas, and herbal teas are unbeatable! While there is a location in Reading Terminal Market, which is quite nice, the Old City on Church Street is MAIN DEAL😎❤️☕️ Thank you for always being so awesome and so very kind!

We’re visiting from Texas and have stopped in here twice now for morning coffee and treats. Cute little place on an old, cobblestone street. The house coffee is excellent. Very smooth with little bitterness. Very friendly baristas who’ve graciously accommodated our varied requests. My daughter had the chai tea which was great as well. We’ve also sampled an array of their homemade baked goods, with a particular shout out to the butterscotch muffin!!!

Small coffee shop with local coffee. You can get beans, mugs, and thermoses as well. I've ordered a subtle sweet pumpkin spice latte. The coffee was bitter and waay sweet than I expected. Great atmosphere in the shop but coffee needs an improvement. It has some sitting area outside and plenty inside the shop. There are outlets for charging and restroom in the café. Recommendation for the café manager, please get some fly catchers. I tried a regular latte of this chain located in the Reading Terminal before. It was great!

Another great Stumptown location, I’m a big fan of their coffee anywhere. This particular spot is conveniently located near Madison Square Park off Broadway. The shop has some space inside to sit along the window but is mostly a grab and go location. The line wasn’t too bad and I got my drip coffee quickly. The prices here to me are very reasonable and the sizes great. Stumptown coffee blends are always a hit and getting it straight from the source tastes extra delicious in the mornings!

Great little spot to get a coffee to go. Plenty of two-seaters inside and two outside, but the chairs are not comfy.

Very nice atmosphere, nice people and great coffee! Especially for all those European tourists: Here you can get that great coffee you know you have been missing. And all that in a great relaxing way to realistic, modest prices.

Sipping a latte at one of their cute tables outside, examining the red brick buildings and watching people walking over the cobblestone streets is as Philadelphia as it will get. They have some phenomenal homemade muffins. Bonus tip: feed pieces of the muffin to the swallows outside to make some quick friends for the morning coffee.

  • 3/5 Ian M. 4 years ago on Google
Decent space, but cortado was not great. Too much foam, foam too bubbly, and too much milk. Not up to competitive standards. Stick to espresso here?

My Husband, Frank, daughter-Monique-and I have been frequenting Old City Coffee for many, many years. Jack and his wife are without a doubt the nicest people you would ever want to meet or do business with. The products are "outstanding" and the staff is super! Just ordered another gift card and, Sam?, was soooo professinal and genuinely nice. Thanks agian--especially during this difficult time. All Stay Safe & Well!! Carmella

Horrible service. Bad attitude all around. Do not expect a smile. I was here at 2:45PM on August 3. Male and a female were working. Coffee was not very good, but they were nice enough to switch my order. It still tasted like heavy robusto budget blends. To clarify, this has nothing to do with them making sure we were being safe about covid guidelines. I appreciated their safety measures and candidness about restrictions. (You must wear a mask, cannot use the restroom, and only three are allowed in the store at a time.) My group was observing these and were completely comfortable with them. I should also expand upon my harsh review. The iced coffee tastes like it is made from old batches of hot coffee which are just refrigerated. I ordered a cold brew to receive some of the aforementioned without a warning that it’s “iced coffee.” To qualify, because I sound like a major “Karen,” I’ll admit the baristas were probably tired and sick of arguing with people all day about their new restrictions, but I felt the “get the heck out” vibe as soon as we entered, and that isn’t a good sign.

I don't like writing negative reviews, especially of independent businesses trying to compete against corporate giants. That said, a negative experience at Old City Coffee in the Reading Terminal Market has compelled me to write such a review. I've been a heavy consumer of coffee for decades, and in all my experiences, I've never even close been treated as rudely as I was by and Old City Coffee barista. I have hearing loss. It was crowded in the market and I was having trouble hearing what the barista was asking of me. After the second time of asking him to repeat himself, his answer was in a tone implying that I was the world's least intelligent person who was wasting his time, and said this at a volume that was too loud for even my compromised hearing. All this said in front of my family; not only was this embarrassing, but it reminded me too of something that's been quite worrisome, since my livelihood depends upon hearing what people say. I wrote an email to their website, and received a very nice response from someone who I later found out was the founder of the company. I greatly appreciate this, however it's simply not enough to repair the extremely bad feelings I have consequent to this experience. In the same position, I would've offered to send someone a bag of complimentary coffee, or a mug, or something. Perhaps this is beyond their capabilities due to the expense, but if this is the case, then OCC certainly can't afford to employ such rude baristas. And in all honesty, $16.00 for a pound of coffee is even more steep than what the corporate behemoth Starbucks charges for an equivalent bag of beans. If you're more expensive than Starbucks, you'd better provide an A+ cup of coffee and experience of the servers. Both were quite below this. It's really too bad, because I used to look forward to Old City Coffee, and their caffeine molecule t-shirts is one of my favorites. Now, all I can think of is that barista talking to me as if I were mentally challenged - he sounded more like a middle school bully rather than someone there to provide a good experience. So, while I appreciate at least the email of apologize, I'm still done with Old City Coffee.

Cute little coffee shop located just off of Market St. in Old City. I always get the Hot Caramel Latte and it’s consistently delicious. They have chocolate covered espresso beans at the counter—be sure to grab some of those, too!

Always good coffee and the aroma invites one to drink coffee! The Sunday afternoon concerts are fine. Today April 28, 2019 was no exception. Both Chase Park, Cellist and Lun Li, Violinist were exemplary and flawless in their performance. Another 5 stars for Old City Coffee to showcase Curtis Institute of Music's fine students.

As a local, I'm used to this place! This is a small cafe with inside outside seating....fresh baked bakery items like cookies, bagel, cake, scones and muffins. Pre Packed juices, yogurt and wraps available too. Coffee is bit strong here, always serving seasonal blends.

It was the first time to go to the Old City Coffee. Coffee was very good. A gigantic peanut butter cookie was very good, especially it was not very sweet which is very good. However I gave 4 stars because this cafe's interior could be much more cozier. Its outside decorations were very pretty and looked cozy, however its inside interior was very disappointing. Anyway, its coffee and cookies were so good.
