This is the second submarine we've been to. Parking was close, free, and very accessible. It's a little price for a self guided tour but we wanted to ae it. We were able to access all parts of the submarine that were open to the public. We were also able to touch almost anything. The kids had a blast, and it was fun checking everything out. If you're into military stuff, this is a must visit.

Amazing, fantastic, wonderful display and tour of a WW2 US submarine, INSIDE and out!!! Loved it! A little tricky, difficult for 69yo 6'2" to climb DOWN entry hatch & ladder, then climb UP the exit ladder & scramble on deck- also took a little practice to learn how to get through hatches below decks, but WOULD NOT have missed this opportunity, and EXPERIENCE, of my lifetime!!! I had tried enlisting in '72, but flat feet + 1 bad eye deferred me, SOOO GLAD to finally be aboard!!

This is one of the best WWII submarine museums you will ever go to. EVERYTHING has been restored almost to its original state. Plus cutouts of torpedoes and other pieces of equipment that make it such a great tour and learning experience. Excellent

This was super cool! Run by veterans with attention to detail, knowledgeable guides on site if you want, or browse at your leisure. Fun for kids and adults. You must be able to climb a ladder to enter and exit the sub. The large gun on the deck was open to sit in and "practice your aim" 😂. If you're visiting the stadium, science center or rock hall, stop in here! Within walking distance! Proceeds go to veterans and sub restoration, highly recommended!

The USS Cod is a very unique submarine. Unlike other Museum subs across the US, this one is the only one that’s not “modified”. By that I mean while normally there are stairs cut in for easy access, the Cod is the only one where you enter and exist the sub via the original hatches that the crew would’ve used while in service. The hatches are tight, but then again you’re dealing with a submarine. This sub is in perfect condition and the staff are very helpful in understanding what life was like onboard. Highly recommend for anyone who loves naval history. I will say parking is limited, but I had no trouble finding a spot.

This submarine was nice to visit. You get to board and tour submarine that was commissioned in the 40’s. Like all submarines the quarters are tight and it’s a good experience to see how sea men had to live on board.

Always feels great to visit a historical vessel of WW2. The staff were friendly and even helped answer questions from within the ship. I gave a glimpse of life what sailors went through working in the ship. I mean looking at the beds makes you feel so grateful for anyone who worked in a submarine. The place is clean, well maintained and audio clips inside the ship wad amazing. Kids would definitely Italy love this place, especially the gun that is mounted on the top of the submarine. I'll recommend this place.

If you like the history of World War 2 then this place is a must see for you! It’s a piece of history both parents and kids can enjoy and learn amazing facts about. I had no idea that in 1940ties US had diesel powered submarines that could have switched to electric mode only to go super silent as an example! Also the enthusiasts running the museum deserve our full respect for how passionately they explain things.👏

Good place to visit if you have the time. Not made for elderly or bigger (taller or heavier) individuals as the areas to climb through are very narrow. Great location. Ventilation in submarine helped a lot with the heat of the day.

Is freaking cool. If you love engineering, boats, technology, history, military, you will find a place here. Self guided tour with some internal voice guidance. Really cool to see what humanity could do in 1942.

This was my first time going to see this submarine, and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I went at around noon on a Sunday, and there was no crowd at all. Let me just say that this is not something for someone who is claustrophobic or someone who can't easily use ladders or bend through small openings. The self guided tour (or you can have a guided tour for no extra cost) was easy to follow and had plenty of information. I would definitely recommend checking it out, especially if you are into World War 2 history! Go check it out for yourself the next time you are in Downtown Cleveland!

Amazing piece of history and a truly unique and interactive experience. The sub is preserved so well and let’s you feel like you have stepped back into time. Climbing and crawling through each compartment was so cool and the audio tour portions were top notch. It took us about an hour to walk through the whole submarine it was time well spent. If you go in the winter make sure to dress warm as the cold lake water keeps the inside cool. They also have an interesting YouTube channel worth checking out. We can’t wait to come back again.

Great spot to visit if you are in the area. The sub is quite well preserved and maintained and there are several stations with audio description.. It must be noted that anyone with limited mobility or larger proportions may be unable to go inside the sub as you have to enter and exit the submarine using the original hatchways and ladders. Parking is free for those visiting

Wow! That was huge. It's a self-guided tour but they do have but each room has a press play button and it very informative. Visited here from Chicago and this was a different experience. I would recommend it's pretty tricky to get down so if you're not flexible... too bad lol

Absolutely fantastic historic museum of wonderful submarine. There is so much history here and almost everything is original. Corridors were a little tight but that is to be expected. Getting into the sub was a tiny bit tricky but easy. This was a non guided tour, they simply gave you one simple instruction to not mess with any levers or buttons and there was an audio guided tour that gave plenty of information of each section. We asked about the martini glass to the person at the ticket desk and they gave us a very detail description what it meant.

WWII sub in great condition. Great experience if you have never been on a Navy ship (or even if you have) Be prepared to climb down/up ladders through narrow hatches and bulkhead doors from compartment to compartment. If claustrophobic, beware. Imagine serving on this with 95 other sailors! Go Navy! Beat Army!

The entry booth folks are great, they are down to earth awesome folk. The submarine is super cool. I love everything WW2 and this hit the spot. It it tight getting in and out of the sub, so if you have any mobility issues you might not be able to enter.

A unique exhibit that you can explore with knowledgeable and friendly staff, and the history and mechanisms presented were very interesting. Being able to go through an actual submarine is not something you get to do every day, and this was worth the time and money! Only downside is it is cash only, and watched a few people turned away for that reason.

Loved the tour!! My kids loved learning about history! They guys were very patient and excited to answer all of my little guys questions! I learned that my son knows a ton more about ships and military than I ever imagined... we apparently chose the perfect time to go because their was a airshow going on, and we didn't have to pay for admission to it.

Very cool WW2 submarine museum piece. As with most submarines, it is very tight inside. Some cool history. Apparently it had sank 12 Japanese vessels, including a destroyer. I followed some people up into the con tower, but was told very quickly that that area was out of bounds. Interestingly, the recording said to go up and there was nothing on the ladder to indicate out of bounds or to stop us. Overall, the museum is very interesting. I would definitely recommend people go see it. Maybe, the curator, or whomever he was could keep his sociopolitical commentary to himself. As his views were in contrast to those of a few people in attendance. Not saying he's not entitled to his opinion, but maybe just keep it to himself.

I cannot express this enough but WEAR TENNIS SHOES lol. I wore these cute saddles and I struggled to get up and down the steps. Yes, you will be climbing up and down a small ladder. This was fun, but it was really hot which gives you insight of how hot it would get. Considering one of the guides told us it would get about 110 when engines were running. I enjoyed this altogether though. Be ready to go through small openings for sure. The history here was amazing to learn about. Definitely recommend.

This is a must see if you are in Cleveland! You'll need to be able to climb a ladder to get into and out of the submarine, so keep that in mind. You can walk around on the deck of the submarine and then you climb down a ladder into the forward torpedo room, then you get to walk the entire length of the main deck. There are a few signs to read and buttons to push to get a short audio tour. You walk through the submarine at your own pace and there are usually a couple people you can ask questions. Everyone on the ship was very nice and it was extremely cool to see a WWII submarine as it looked back in the day!

Was my first time in a submarine. Fascinating visit! And the admission was affordable. The submarine was extremely well-preserved and there were audio explanations and historical photographs in each part. It's very narrow inside so definitely not for claustrophobic people, but otherwise this is a must-visit in Cleveland alongside the Rock Museum.

Great tour. The COD is in pristine condition. You will love seeing how the boat was back when it was in use. Guides are great and will answer any questions you have. Limited free parking right there.

We were lucky to be able to visit on Sept 30th - the last day of the year they are open. The tour is self guided with audio options at several places throughout the submarine. Excellent volunteers for answer any question we came up with. The entry into the sub was a little scary for those us that aren’t fond of small spaces, but it was neat to experience how sailors got on the sub. This was also unlike any other submarine tour I have been on as they have not changed the inside to make it easier to move around. There are tight spaces and small doorways get through. Makes you appreciate the men who had to live onboard for any amount of time.

Exceptional historical navy submarine in Cleveland. Visited while on vacation, this veteran run submarine is top notch! The tour is an audio self guided tour, that submerges you back in time during WW2. I recommend wearing sneaker type shoes and comfortable clothes, as the tour requires you to climb down ladders and narrow openings throughout the sub. The tour is informative and the detail is every room is fantastic!

Saw this come up as a place to visit. Reasonable entrance. They let you borrow a locker to put your bags away. You can enter thru a hatch and down the ladder. There are multiple signs explaining where you are and what the rooms are for. Also to explain how shifts rotated, how machinery works, historical data, even a few audio stations that explain about the sub. The volunteers were amazing and full of stories.

The tour was awesome, learned a ton about submarine warfare and am extremely happy I was able to explore this museum. A must see for anyone in Cleveland!

Great place to tour a real submarine from ww2. The sub has not been retrofitted for easy access, keeping it true to how it would have looked all that time ago. So the tour itself can be a bit hard to maneuver it is very authentic. There are volunteers around to help answer any questions about the rooms and displays and the history of the boat. Very cool and worth seeing.

Gunner Dave the attendant here at the USS Cod is hands down a gem to speak with, It's so unbelievable that we have such a magnificent piece of machinery responsible for giving us our independence and courage to stand United as a nation, one heck of a piece of iconic American history.. Step back in time in this unique tour to be had by all.

We visit every couple of years. The crew has done an amazing job keeping the sub in good condition and as historical as possible. Almost all areas are accessable and viewable to the public. Highly recommend visiting if you get a chance!

This was such an awesome experience! I've never been in a submarine and it was so incredible to see everything inside and hear the things that have to say about it all!

I have had both the honor and the privileged to tour a number of US submarines from WWII. The USS Pampanito in San Fransisco, the USS Cobia in Manitowoc, WI, and the USS Clamagore in Charleston (now permanently closed). While these are all wonderful subs in their own right to me USS Cod is unique in its own right. Full restored to its 1945 war configuration the hull has not been cut like the other subs to allow the installation of a staircase. You enter the sub through the forward hatch down the ladder and into the forward torpedo room just like they did in 1945. The hard work the preservation crew and volunteers do every day to keep Cod in the best possible condition ensures an amazing visitors experience. The staff is friendly and helpful always ready to answer any questions you may have. You don't have to be a history buff to visit the Cod. It is worth it just to see how these men lived and fought for their country in World War II.
