My husband and I recently traveled to Cleveland so I could be evaluated for a surgery there, and we picked the J Palen House. It was fantastic. What really stands out to me is that when we arrived Cleveland had a lot of snow, but the b&b made it a point to shovel out a space for us and put cones down so no one would take our spot. I was just really impressed with the foresight and thoughtfulness to do that for us. There was a plumbing issue with our original room, so they upgraded us to the Palen room. The plumbing issue was actually fixed before we arrived, but they still let us stay in the Palen room. It was lovely. The bed was amazing, I never wanted to leave the tub, the fireplace was cozy, and the food was delicious. We had the whole building to ourselves, which was so nice. The one thing to look out for is that our room was on the second floor, and the stairs were quite steep-and the only bathroom we could use was on the second floor. It wasn't a problem for us, but it is something to keep in mind if you have severe mobility issues. However, as there are other rooms that don't require stairs, I wouldn't see it as a deal breaker for anyone staying. I'm sure all of the rooms are wonderful to stay in. We'll actually be traveling to Cleveland again soon for my surgery, so we'll probably stay at the Palen House again then.

Diane and Doug were great! We stayed in The Roost, which was very rustic and unique. My wife and I both loved it. The breakfasts they served us were absutely delicious. They laid out rose petals and towel swans for my wife, our 4 month old we brought along, and myself. I was even able to pay them to get a dozen rozes and chocolate covered strawberries ahead for Valentine's Day. This trip was perfect. If you need food recommendations, make sure to ask them as well. We used 3 of their recommendations and were not disappointed in the least. Highly recommend this experience!

We stayed in "The Roost" during our last visit to Cleveland and absolutely loved everything about it. The room was so comfortable and had everything we needed. The bed was amazing! Diane our host made fresh delicious cookies for us and breakfast. The mini bar was stocked with free beverages and snacks! Perfect location for getting around Cleveland and located in such a fun neighborhood. You can walk everywhere. Will definitely be staying again.

We had a great stay here. The owner was extremely helpful and informative. She even reserved a parking spot for us! (Parking is on the street, but free and plentiful -- we never had a problem finding a spot within a few doors away). We weren't able to make the 9:00 breakfast, so Diane put ours in our kitchen the day before. Beautiful lodgings, very cozy bed. The only complaint I have is that one of the chairs in the sitting room seems small, and old (should be replaced). Highly recommended!

We stayed at The Roost for a couple of days. The location and innkeeper were excellent. We had breakfast at the main house once and it was delivered (as we slept in) once. Both were great

We stayed during our bicycle tour and host was great with any questions and letting us put bikes in back yard prior to check in time...great set up inside the house and was very wonderfully stocked...due to covid the food was available as self serve, which worked fine for us..the food was delicious and plenty of snacks and a few sodas were provided.. Host was very fast with any responses and made sure to ask how our stay had been the morning we checked out...the maid service did nice job setting up everything for our stay and it was a very nice, elegant arrangement.. As a bonus it is only a block from several small restaurants, ice cream shops and small cafes...host also provides 10% discount card you can use at most of those same places..

We had a wonderful time in Cleveland largely due to J Palen House. We were in town for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and was impressed with the close proximity to the inn. We actually walked to the R&R HoF! My wife and I stayed in the Retreat and found it very romantic with the fireplace. The breakfast was delicious and the staff very friendly. We will be back to enjoy more of the Cleveland night life.

This place is amazing down to the last detail! The hosts are knowledgable, courteous and professional. They easily saved us time and money on parking and transit simply by how well they know the area. The room we stayed in, the Miller Suite, was perfect. And details you don't even think of at other hotels were not missed here. The breakfast was also good. Quality, fresh, local ingredients and proper portions made the meal. Finally, this is located in the Ohio City section of Cleveland close to mass transit and plenty of non-chain restaurants and bars. We won't stay anywhere else for our next visit!!

My wife and I had a wonderful stay in this top notch B&B. Diane was a most gracious host. The Master Suite in the retreat was perfect. The breakfast was delicious. My only regret is that we could not stay longer. I highly recommend J. Palen House.

Was slightly blown away by the place. I stayed in the Miller Suite, which is actually the whole 3rd floor. I've done a lot of travelling and can say hands down, this is the nicest B&B or hotel I've ever stayed in! My colleague also had a lovely room on the 2nd floor. Incredible attention to detail, makes everything about staying here a treat. Breakfast was also delicious! Don't hesitate to stay here, you won't be disappointed!

Incredibly charming, cozy, and romantic ambience! My husband and I stayed in the Retreat for our first married Valentine’s Day! The food Diane made was wonderful, evening treats and a three-course breakfast! I didn’t get to meet her but her husband was such a gentlemen, very friendly and informative! Everything was lovely and it truly felt like a retreat. The bed was so comfortable and we had our own fireplace in the bedroom! Loved the luxurious jacuzzi tub! I highly recommend this lovely B&B!

April 2023 My wife and I had an excellent experience at the J Palen House. The location was within walking distance of all of the fun activities in Ohio City. The breakfasts were great, and the fact that they were waiting for whenever we wanted them was a plus. I would love to know where the chicken sausage comes from. It was amazing.

I stayed with my son for one night on our way to drop him off at college in Chicago. Our room in the barn was spotlessly clean, quiet and comfortable with great bedding and amenities. And, we loved staying in and exploring the Ohio City neighborhood. The J. Palen House was SO MUCH nicer than the five-star hotel we stayed in last year downtown. We'll be back!

We stayed two nights at this wonderful gem of a place located in a vibrant neighborhood in Ohio City. The room was charming with all the right touches making us feel like we were in the country. The breakfasts were amazing and Diane and Doug were the perfect hosts. We will definitely be back!

A beautiful, comfortable, clean and very interestingly decorated bed and breakfast that I discovered in my favorite elite B and B reference, Select Registry. We stayed in The Roost, a two story unit with a gorgeously landscaped private patio where the two of us ate breakfast each morning. Breakfast included freshly prepared, delicious and interesting food with nice presentation that was delivered to our room for us to warm whenever we chose to eat. Our hosts were as friendly and helpful as any I've ever encountered. Walking in the neighborhood was a treat, as the architecture of the homes nearby is old, interesting and in many cases beautifully restored. It was a short drive to Edgewater Beach for a walk on the trail along Lake Erie and to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Good local food too!

This is truly a great find in Cleveland. My husband and I stayed only one night but wished we could have stayed longer. The Roost was spacious, with a well-stocked kitchenette and plenty of amenities. Breakfast was delicious and came ready-to-heat in the mini-fridge so we could partake any time we liked. A huge bonus was the walkability and bikeability to other places. It was a 10-minute easy bike ride to Progressive Field for a game and then we walked to West Side Market, Avo for dinner, and strolled around Ohio City. This is the place to stay in Cleveland!
