Ok so the pizza is great and the environment is awesome, lots of outdoor space, BUT I have to leave this review because their croissants are HORRIBLE. Do not get one. We tried them twice and they were dry both times, and honestly the worst croissants I’ve ever had.

I was treated like a subhuman on 3/20/23 at freehold. The problem began when I pointed out to Shantel that I was overcharged for my sandwich. From that point she immediately began dealing with me with a nasty dismissive attitude. It seemed like it was a problem that I asked her to correct the error. When I mentioned to her that prices in the POS system should be updated to reflect the menu, Shantel gritted her teeth, scowled her face at me and ignored what I said. I asked Shantel if I did something worthy of being ignored and Shantel continued to ignore me. For whatever reason, Shantel thought that I, the customer did not deserve to be acknowledged. I believe this has to do with her own micro-aggressions and not something I did. What I know, if I was a white man, she would not have felt so comfortable treating me like I was not welcomed there. The situation went from bad to worse when the manager Joshua Cashwell got involved. He approached me defensively and aggressively. Once again, I was treated like I was the problem. Joshua provided an insincere apology for my experience but then voided the apology while explaining to me that he knew Shantel for two years and hasn't heard a complaint like mine. Joshua said Shantel has credibility with him which is dismissive to my experience that day. As a manager of people, in that moment I knew Joshua didn’t know how to handle the situation. Joshua continued to argue with me about my experience. Again I ask, if I was a white man, is that the type of service I’d receive from an owner/manager at this establishment? The question is rhetorical. At minimum, how Joshua decided to handle me exposes his unconscious bias, or possibly worse. After I cut the conversation short, and informed him I would be writing a review. A few mins later he approached my table with an entirely different attitude. Now he was profusely apologetic, repeatedly explaining himself and admitting that he “came in hot” because he wanted Shantel to feel supported. After Shantel and Joshua both decided to handle me without any professionalism, the worst part of the experience happened. My cousin or ordered his sandwich after me, received his sandwich. 30 mins later, my sandwich had not arrived. We had to ask for it, and it was sitting at the bar, sloppily wrapped in aluminum foil (see attached photo) while my cousin received his sandwich presented on a tray and parchment paper to be eaten there. The message to me? Take your sandwich and leave. No bag, no napkins just a sandwich sitting on the counter in foil that nobody bothered to bring to our table. After all of these transgressions, Joshua’s solution was to comp our meal, offer free drinks and drink tickets for a future visit (see attached image). If Joshua chose to take accountability for the problem to begin with and not argue or approach me defensively, I wouldn’t have written this review. And while this is a popular business and this review will not permanently damage the business. I think Joshua will learn his lesson from this. Check your Micro-aggressions at the door, and treat everyone who came to patronize your business with respect and dignity. Lastly, I have audio recordings of my interactions. I’m meeting with a local media outlet to expose how I was treated incase anyone will attempt to imply I haven’t been honest in this review.

We hosted an event and received extremely poor quality service and treatment by the staff and manager. * Slow kitchen and food service - waited over 1hour and half. * Incorrect drink orders also taking over 45 minutes for simple coffees. * Poor ability to host larger group bookings. * Josh the day manager is inexperienced with lack of communication between host, wait staff and guest. * Food was average. * Had one of our guests sit on a seat with a nail poking out scraping herself and ripping their pants, dangerous and negligent. Venue cant even repair or look after their furniture.

Great spot, fun atmosphere and delicious drinks. Managed to find bar space on a Saturday night which is always a plus. Great spot to stop for a drink after a concert/dinner

Freehold is home court. There is absolutely no better place in the greater NYC area to day drink on a nice spring/summer day. I've been to Make Believe, I've been to the Public Rooftop, I've been to Boulton & Watt. I've been to the Ready Rooftop. All of these places are like Freeholds ugly little step cousin. My fault that's the red wine at altitude talkin. There is an outdoor patio that has ample space and a full service bar. I'm a little too loaded off this pinot rn to say what I want to say but it is a fantastic environment to grab a table and order some pizza or to get in there and really get active. FREEHOLD... THIS IS FOR YOU!!!

Food- pizza was meh, fries came out cold Service - the bartenders were definitely about the hang Atmosphere - we saw a rat run through the place After-party - the dancing was funnnn but the dj was definitely trying to appeal to everyone so it was sometimes more fun than others.

This is the best spot in BK hands down. Chill, low key, Laptop friendly, Awesome staff and good coffee and an even better beer selection. Super stoked I found this gem of a place!

What an amazing place. They have it all - friendly staff, comfortable seating, great wifi, very good coffee and even a fully equipped bar and kitchen for an after work drinks 🍺. I believe I found my favorite remote work space. Highly recommended

I visited this place for lunch, and overall, it was a cool spot. I enjoyed the vegetarian meatballs, but unfortunately, my burger patty had a fishy smell that made it unappetizing. The pizza was just okay, and I wasn't impressed with the food overall. However, the vibe of the place was good

Came in on a whim for a cocktail or 2 and it was such a relaxing and fun time! Emily, my bartender, was amazing. She made fantastic drinks and held a great conversation when needed. Sit at the bar and ask for Emily :) ( I should note the other bartenders are lovely as well! Espresso martini was great!

One of my most favorite venues in Brooklyn. It's great as a co-working spot during the day, delicious coffee, food, amazing outdoor space / concert venue at night. I saw Maggie Rogers DJ there in 2019 and it was awesome. I love, love this place! Very excited that they opened a location in Manhattan

First timer and loved this spot. Came during the day and sat outside, great space perfect for working or day drinking or both. Loved the laid back vibe and selection of beers. I'll be back for sure!

This was a great place to work from! I came to have happy hour at four and I had the white peach Bellini. It was really good. I also had the apple pie latte which was great. The oat current scone was lack luster.

Delicious mocha, one of the best I’ve had in New York and very friendly staff. Guy helped me out with the wifi when he didn’t have to. Great place for my friends and I to remote work for a few hours while we waited to check in to our Air Bnb.

Security staff is disrespectful and aggressive towards women. When called out on their behavior they first refused to acknowledge it, then tried to cover it up with one of them going so far as to lie and say he was the manager, and when that didn’t work they got unnecessarily violent. This is not “one bad apple” but at least three (if not more) members of their security team (who they claim is contracted via All Star Security) working together. Freehold’s general manager, Brandon Gorst, gave me his card and promised to get me info but he could not be bothered to respond to any of my emails or follow through on his promises. I’m now talking to the owners who claim they’re “internally investigating” and “take this seriously” but also won’t answer my questions or provide any of the info I was promised over a month ago. Do yourself a favor and go to literally any other bar. This one is unsafe and unprofessional, and the staff are at best incompetent and more likely outright predatory.

This was my favorite place to go and i will probably keep going but DIFFERENT BARTENDERS CHARGE DIFF PRICES FOR THE SAME DRINKS AND THATS NOT OK. Management needs to go over the cost of basic drinks such as tequila n pineapple and it should not exceed $15 max. One day it’s $10 some days it’s $13 sometimes it’s 18! Which is it?! I complained so many times and the pretty bartender that is usually outside was so rude about it as if i was taking her baby away from her. Great music only on saturdays though. Gonna give it one more try after the 6 tries i gave it because this is my go to bar bc the drinks were the most affordable in the area but if they don’t have a set price soon i’ll be going to pianos moving forward.

Their pizzas are AMAZING! But other than that, no matter how many times I asked the bartender to make a drink a specific way, they never did. The drinks were WAY too strong for me and my friends and should not be strong for what we ordered. The vibe was very chill, mellow. The outdoor area is nice when the weather is nice.

This is the worst place ever. It looked nice so we decided to sit and eat rather than walking to the restaurant we were originally going to. We waited forever (at least an hour) to receive two cold pizzas and our fries were missing. We signaled the host who then saw and ignored us. So we had to go up there to ask for the pizza to be re-heated. The manager was nice and offered to reheat and reimburse us. We did that. But I got back slightly warm pizza and when I went to eat there was a long piece of hair on it! We left and will never come back.

I’ve always loved going to Freehold during the day with my laptop and getting some work done with a coffee or a drink, but finally went out there on on a Saturday night with a group of friends and had such awful service I’m not sure I want to keep going back. We had a booth with a QR menu, and 3 of us all made orders that never showed up. We had to go up to the bar after 35 minutes of waiting for some cans of beer and show our receipts to finally get anything- this happened again a little later when another friend ordered a drink. (It didn’t seem to be an issue with the scanner though because half of our friends didn’t have any problems) We also had a reservation for our booth until 10:30pm and our waiter kept coming back and telling us we needed to leave soon (at 9, and then at 9:30pm?) and then took away our QR menu at 9:30 and said our time was almost up even though we still had an hour left. In general, felt like a big waste of money and time spent chasing down drinks.

I’ve lived in NYC for 10 years, I’ve been out to Freehold many times before but NEVER in my experience have I witnessed such a rude, irresponsible and inadequate staff until yesterday. The bar was at capacity so we were on line to get in (approx. 60 minute wait) and during this experience, a man collapsed and fell to the ground, so everyone was calling 911. We asked the bouncers for water and they refused. Eventually my group decided to leave and go Whiskey Brooklyn (always a good time) but one of my friends had already been inside Freehold. I tried to call her so we could all leave but it wasn’t going through. I asked the female bouncer (who was on a power trip) if I could go inside and grab her. The response was: “nothing I could do about it babe.” Eventually my friend came out and said these men had been harassing her inside. If this had been a more serious assault and I wasn’t allowed to get my solo female friend out, Freehold should be ashamed and held accountable for any and all incidents. Between that and not helping the poor collapsed man, I have no respect for this place as they have no compassion for humans. Won’t be supporting their business any longer.

Coffee shop / lounge by day, and a chill music filled / dj driven / club vibe spot by night. Really great spot to hang out casually during the day and hangout and have fun with friends at night. They also do bottle service in the evenings. Prices are expensive but about average for this neighborhood in Williamsburg. Lots of open space and 2 different bat areas with seating and areas to lay Back and relax.

I have never had the food here, although it seems like a nice place. I go to Freehold at night when it turns into a great club. It has a nice large outdoor area as well if you're looking for more of a beer garden feel. If you're out with all your friends, and you are all spending the night here, it's definitely worth it to order bottle service and get a booth.

Went last night, Friday night, popping place. It was crowded on the main room but luckily there is an outdoor space where u can unwind and take a breather lol. 3 separate bars makes this place that much better. Didn't try the food, but there is a little nook with pizza bites. Cool spot, enjoy!!!

Fun spot with decent drinks. This is 1000% a party spot for the 20-30 crowd and the staff does not actually wait any tables, but they will charge an automatic 20% tip if your group eats. Come for the vibes, not for the food.

If you are looking at this review: it is what it is. Exactly what you’ve heard, and expect. Three stars because the drinks aren’t exorbitantly priced like some other bars of similar caliber can be.

My friend and I threw a joint birthday party here, and WOW - Freehold crushed it. special shout-out to Carly for all the great help with the planning and hosting us. You helped make the experience one we won’t forget. Amazing drinks, food, and atmosphere! Thank you again for having us :)

Since I've come back to NYC I've come here pretty much every day to work. Most of the staff are lovely, really friendly and accommodating and don't bug you every five minutes like they do in some other places. The environment is perfect for working in - plenty of room inside and out and the wifi is relatively stable too. The daily happy hour is awesome with half price drinks and pizza - you can't go wrong.

good location and great music. pizza is a good when you have nothing else to grab from Inside and need to soak up some alcohol before you leave. it gets really packed so get there at a reasonable time to enjoy the ability to breathe...lol

Went for a friend’s birthday on a Friday night. At first it seemed like just another half-bougie beer hall but as the night wore on, the place turned into a lovely dance party where it felt like anything could happen. Fair warning: Drinks are pricey and shots were the same price as mixed drinks.

This is a wonderful place for a nice evening drink. They host some events, and they are always super quick and nice! The outside area is very spacious. The variety in spaces to hang out allows for lots of options for different groups of people trying to mingle or have a more intimate moment.

Good place in Williamsburg. Pizza is decent. Plenty of draft and canned beer, wine and of mixed drinks. Different atmosphere day vs night. Parking no easy to find on street but there is a paid parking garage right across the street.

Just had one drink here, but seemed like a cool place. Very open, relaxed and a mix of people. Will go again.

Loved this place! Came here for a friend's birthday and the ambience is great as well as the amount of space! My friend had an upper section blocked out for the party which was a nice place to gather for our group. The drinks and food were also pretty good - I'd consider it elevated standard bar fare. All in all, will definitely make it back here at some point.

  • 4/5 Dominic S. 1 year ago on Google
Place is surprisingly massive you walk in and at first it looks like a little coffee bar then when you go left there are multiple big rooms with tables and bars and it creates a very cool atmosphere. The food was pretty good got two different pizzas the eggs Benedict and breakfast one. Both were good but nothing to write home about. The place is definitely worth a visit due to the atmosphere and setup alone. Food will not blow you away but is good enough.
