Very cool building built specifically for the purpose of being a Historical Society. Inside is one of the most beautiful libraries I've ever seen - make sure you visit when the library is open!

We rented the Center for Brooklyn History for our wedding. We used the space for both our ceremony and reception. We could not have had a more magical evening. The library space is absolutely gorgeous, and provided a perfect, reverential backdrop for our nuptials. The downstairs space is nicely laid out, with access to the outdoor patio allowing us to enjoy the warm Brooklyn summer evening. The staff was a pleasure to work with - courteous, professional, and efficient. The communication was clear, and they were very flexible. They worked hard to make our wedding perfect, and they responded to all our requests with an attitude of "yes and." Plus, our space rental fee was a direct donation to the BPL system, which was huge plus! Would highly recommend them for any event you have.

This is a free museum that celebrates Brooklyn today and its cultural heritage. Upstairs is a library with friendly staff who helped me do a bit of research on the city and explore their large archival collections. I definitely aim to return here to do more research in the future.

MAGNIFICENT! Wonderfully beautiful structure, ageless in style and granduer, like the knowledge held within its walls. This is A Must Go! You'll absolutely enjoy and love it, and the experience of amazement in sight, history, and literature.

It was calm and quiet and informative. A small museum with interesting exhibits. A cool way to plug into a Brooklinite mindset and gather history on the cultures that make up Long Island.

The place is a hidden gem. The museum isn’t very big, might take 2-3 hours to see everything at the museum and has a great deal of history about Brooklyn. A very beautiful and still functional library. There are collections about history of different ethnic groups and their history in brooklyn. A great place to visit if you are interested to know to history of brooklyn. Also it’s free for students, but they do accept donations.

Excellent exhibits, library, specialty shop and staff: a true tribute to historic and contemporary Brooklyn.

Very educational, cozy and grand at the same time. Warm staff, cool new exhibition on display the day we visited on health and sickness in Brooklyn, and on Muslims in Brooklyn; but it is a small museum and so not much to see, but I definitely recommend a visit. There is a suggested fee, which we paid, but it's donation based.

I went here for the Brooklyn Book Festival and it is a beautiful location. The staff was very friendly and despite the volume of people at the location, the staff had a great handle on control and organization. There are multi levels (i never got to see the second floor), but the bathroom in the basement was fairly clean and the library auditorium is massive. Great place to host discussions and other events if available to. Can’t wait to see what you guys have next.

Great place with lot to learn about history of Brooklyn but there is no guide to walk around and give you details...so it's kind of you are on your own ...

This is a beautiful setting in a beautiful neighborhood. The exhibits are well done, but they aren't so extensive or so numerous that you feel overwhelmed — you can feel like you get something out of it even in a short visit. And don’t miss the library on the second level. You can view it from just inside the doors, or if you want to see it more up close and peruse some of its holdings, you can sign in at the library’s front desk.

Found myself thinking a lot about this place today. One of the first places I'll go as soon as I get my second shot and it's open for visitors. Very good programming that reminds us of how historically rich our borough is.

The Center for Brooklyn History is a museum, library, and educational center founded in 1863 that preserves and encourages the study of Brooklyn's 400-year history. The center's Romanesque Revival building, located at Pierrepont and Clinton Streets in Brooklyn Heights, was designed by George B. Post and built in 1878-81, is a National Historic Landmark and part of New York City's Brooklyn Heights Historic District. The CBH houses materials relating to the history of Brooklyn and its people, and hosts exhibitions which draw over 9,000 members a year. In addition to general programming, the CBH serves over 70,000 public school students and teachers annually by providing exhibit tours, educational programs and curricula, and making its professional staff available for instruction and consultation.
