This museum has exhibitions that rotate every few months. If you want to visit ORDER A TICKET ONLINE IN ADVANCE (even if you are a member) and wear a mask. There's limited capacity for every exhibition room and 6ft social distancing is in effect everywhere in the museum. The only exhibition on display (as of 10/25/21) is Greater New York. The pictures displayed are my most favorite art pieces from my favorite exhibition called, Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration. Most, if not all exhibitions here are extremely insightful and give insightful commentary on current events or the lives of current artists, including up and coming artists. In addition to the art, there's a restaurant brought to you by Mina Stone called Mina's that brings small cafe items along with authentic Greek cuisine. It is open Friday-Sunday during museum hours and there is now indoor seating. The museum is open Thursday-Monday, from 12pm-6pm, except for Saturdays, when it closes at 8pm.

This was a great rainy day museum experience. It is very easy to reach via Subway and worth the trip. While contemporary art may not be for everyone. MoMa PS1 was excellently curated, leaving me more knowledgeable after each exhibition panel.

For $10 per person, you can enjoy a great verify of empty rooms. Save your time and money, go to other places.

Unbelievable that someone will consider this as art. They had an empty room bigger than any apartment in NYC with a stuffed parrot doll and a laser pointer. WHAT. The guy who did the wall paint is a better artist than anyone on display. See pic as evidence, a cup on the floor is displayed as art.

Lot of emerging artists. Interesting to see the building which was shift from school to the museum. It has special vibes, and it has not proper heating, so make sure if you are going in winter to dress well.

MoMA PS1 is a great place to experience contemporary art. It’s free for New York residents. The museum features a rotating schedule of exhibitions, so there is always something new to see. The exhibits are well-curated and thought-provoking, and the museum's staff is friendly and helpful. It is also a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. In addition, the historical boiler room in the basement is a captivating space that adds a unique touch to the overall experience. Transformed into an immersive art installation, it serves as a reminder of the museum's rich industrial past.

The small offshoot of large MOMA with small but extraordinary changing exhibitions. Not so crowded, because perhaps not yet so well known? I enjoyed it and it was worth the 10$ by far. One should be open for new things 👍👍👍👍👍

Always a great time at MoMA. Everyone is nice, the areas that are meant to be quiet stay quiet. They display artwork across all mediums and skill levels. Went for a free event and everyone was warm and welcoming.

Love the outdoor seating areas. The store has many wonderful selections. My favorite part was being able to write a postcard to an inmate at rikers. Very special place. The accessible ramp is quite steep which was very difficult to get up, thankfully I had help by an employee. But it was dangerous to come down if you do not have assistance. My hands were callused after trying to safely navigate the down ramp.

The museum is very peaceful! It’s all about the evolution and the small accomplishments of people residing in Queen’s & the artwork showcased by them. The only thing is they have very limited artwork. I was a little confused as I just got to see very few pieces of artwork. I wasn’t able to see half of the artwork as shown on google, maybe because half of the museum was closed due to renovation. I guess the MOMA museum in Manhattan is bigger with variety of artwork. Overall simple & good experience! The museum has a cafe as well , you can sit outside and enjoy a good meal w you’re family or friends.

What a waste of such a large space! I like art and I’m very choosy about it. I have seen good Modern art, but what I witnessed here was mostly atrocity. Felt like wasted my hours to visit this place and walk around. 1 of the floors was closed for installation and 2 floors which were open didn’t have any impressive art. Uploading pictures of the only 2 installations I admired. Good things- the staff is good and courteous. The lockers room service is also good. There is a souvenir shop if interested. And a café at the 1st floor.

The museum is great no knocks there. The summer party dance party did leave a lot on the table however. Very little food options for such a large event. The music was decent until the final act got on and played 2016 club hits with little to no creativity or style in approach. That said it still managed to bring a crowd likely cause this party is free for LIC residents.

If you find yourself in the LIC area and are looking for something to do in your free time, this museum is the perfect choice! During the week, I visited this museum with a friend, commuting all the way from BK. The transfer from the Q train to the local train was seamless, and it only took a quick 3-minute walk to reach the museum entrance. The best part? Tickets are completely free for NYC residents! Yes, you read that right - FREE! Just make sure to order them online in advance. There was no waiting time to enter, and the staff members were incredibly friendly from the moment we arrived until we left. Although it's a smaller museum, you can expect to spend a maximum of 90 minutes exploring all it has to offer. If you happen to be in the LIC area, I highly recommend paying this museum a visit. Additionally, I suggest coming during the late spring or early summer to witness the breathtaking permanent James Turrell exhibit. Trust me, it will transport you to another dimension both mentally and spiritually. It's an experience that I would definitely return for.

I really liked just spending time in this historic building. The AIDS exhibit was profound. The Fortune Society’s exhibit on incarceration is great, so many voices that need to be heard here. The staff was really helpful.

This is a wonderful modern art museum in Long Island City, Queens Currently, all the galleries are showing works by Iraqi artists and deal with the Iraq war and it's aftermath The museum is free for New York City and I think New York State residents. Due to its affiliation with MoMA, it is also free for people who have a recent MoMA ticket. This is an underappreciated little gem of a museum. I n most places in the world, this museum would be regard as the best art museum in the city. Here, its often forgotten but shouldn't be.

There’s always a good show to excite your imagination or sooth your soul. Very progressive and diverse art at this place. The book store is full of surprises. Spend 10 minutes looking at the sky at the James Turrell “Meeting”. Change your sit a couple of times and you’ll see a difference sky down a different perspective. Oh, visitors tend to be friendly, approachable, and kind.

Small contemporary art space in a repurposed school building. The space has been partly left in original unfurnished condition, adding to the experience of the gallery. The rotating exhibits show interesting works of art from local artists that are conceptual and most are mixed media. Although the museum is small you will definitely leave feeling inspired to represent your own experiences through artistic expression.

The MoMA PS1 isn’t my favorite museum in New York City, but I’m glad I got to check it out! The work in this museum is far more outside the box than most stuff in art museums, even by most modern art standards. There were some real gems, but overall, probably a bit more eclectic than I normally go for. Absolutely worth checking out if you’re in the area, though!

Wonderful museum! The curation and descriptions are thoughtful and really guide your experience through the museum. Cool museum but I was expecting a lot more. The exhibitions were good but just a few were outstanding. I recommend to visit because is a must on your stay on New York. We went there at 11 am and it was not crowded, really good. The ticket it’s ok, not expensive. I hope to go back in the future and found better exhibitions 🙂

The Theater of Operations A great exhibition of the Gulf Wars and the Iraq Wars via paintings, videos and installations. Some of the art works are so violent that I even couldn’t stare at them for more than one second, for example, Touching Reality. The exhibition presented the wars from different perspectives and also demonstrated how the wars impacted the artists and their art works. More insights are provided during the curator tours.

This is a small offshoot from the MoMA in Manhattan and I think this museum has more recent contemporary art than the main one. There was only one exhibition that really interested me, the rest were okay in my opinion. The two permanent installations on the top floor were definitely my favorite, and seeing the historic boiler room in the basement was cool too. I would still come back depending on if there were interesting exhibitions coming through. The old school building was also fun to navigate and felt cool in the sense that it was a non traditional museum setting. Overall I think this museum was worth checking out mainly because it’s free for NY residents, I would only pay the $10 admission fee if there was an exhibit I was interested in.

I visited this spot again in oct 2023. It was nothing like my first visit in 2017. It just felt boring, disorganized and weird vibes. However, I was very glad to see Turrell's piece.

I‘ve been visiting PS1 for some time, including the summer WarmUp series. It‘s a cool space to spend an afternoon to experience contemporary art - and of weather permitting sit in the outdoor courtyard. Make it a day to LIC to explore the small Hunters Point Historic District and walk to the waterfront afterwards.

I recently visited MoMA PS1, and it left a lasting impression on me. The museum offers a unique and thought-provoking experience with its extensive collection of art installations. Each piece invites you to contemplate and engage with different ideas and perspectives. I was particularly impressed by the diverse range of artists represented, showcasing a variety of artistic voices and expressions. If you have the opportunity to visit, I highly recommend exploring MoMA PS1. It's a captivating museum that is sure to leave you inspired and intrigued.

Came here to check out the exhibit on mass incarceration. A heartbreaking, beautiful, and eye opening experience. The amount of talent that has been explored behind bars speaks to the societal problems in this country. The curation does a great job on touching on a lot of that. As for safety guidelines, kudos to security for ensuring social distancing.

(Translated by Google) An exhibition was underway showing how the Iraq war affected artists' work and what Iraqi artists do. As the theme was the subject, it was a very heavy exhibition, and in order to understand the work, it was necessary to have some background knowledge about Iraq and the Iraq war, so much time is required for proper viewing. Apart from this, the performance was also in progress, but I didn't buy the tickets in advance, so I was sorry that I could not sell them. On the third floor, you can see James Turrell's site specific installation. It was a beautiful experience to sit still and watch the sky with clouds. However, the ceiling is open, so it is a little cold in winter. There are many interesting books in the bookstore, but it was not very good. There is not much to see around here.

Only 3 exhibits 1 being a cultural experience of Egyptian immigrants, the other exhibit was 1 painting. Building is great but I feel as though they need more permanent exhibits. Huge Amoy courtyard just empty. No sculpture or art. Wish there was more to look at.
