First off this place is not fancy. It has a few tables and the vibe of a take out joint. Music is playing (an excellent urban Playlist) but it's kind of loud so that discourages any meaningful conversation. That being said who needs talk when you have food this amazing! Everything was incredibly delicious, perfectly seasoned and served with LOVE. The owner is a sweetheart who greeted us warmly and literally blessed us as we left. But an even greater blessing was the impeccably fresh seafood and the world class lemonade. Coconut yams and blueberry cornbread are also not to be missed. Try this places food soon and take a trip to culinary paradise.

The food here is always good and fresh! We love it so much, y’all got my son to love Mac and cheese again! I love this black owned business. It’s been awhile since I’ve been here in person. Sometimes I’m so stressed I can’t eat, you’ve been making me feel better 🙏🏾🙏🏾 blessing to the owner and their family

Nothing less than PHENOMENAL!! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had the Mr. Black Nile for my main dish and every bit of it was worth the drive. We also shared some appetizers that were on point! To top it off, the customer service was exceptional! Hasan and his wife Fanerra were amazing hosts and took great care of us. This was the only place I went out for dinner while visiting NY and it did not disappoint. I will definitely be back on my next trip over!

Almost didn’t go in, so glad I did. The woman at the front was very sweet and so was the rest of the staff. Food was absolutely delicious, I got the irreplaceable- shrimp and grits with honey garlic sauce - highly recommend along with the berry punch, one of the best juices I’ve had.

Ordering: Grab a menu off the front counter they don't have em displayed on the wall, food is not too expensive, 20-25 minute wait minimum be patient. Restaurant: Indoor dining was great seats for a solo person or tables for a party of four. Heads up: Extremely Loud rap music blasting (circa 1998-2009) not sure if they play music all day like that but just be prepared and not thwarted by it (the counter person is cool). Overall seems to be really popular they ran out of shrimp and grits at 7pm on a Thursday night so have a 2nd choice in mind. Whiting was crunchy, salty, and delicious came with a unique tarter sauce. Cajun Alfredo was thick and creamy could of easily been a meal all by itself. The potato salad chunks were too big for me they could of sliced them a little more. I'll definitely be back to try other items on the menu.

Food was worth the wait. The Mac n cheese is macc'n!! Fresh, large shrimp and meaty lobster tails. The owner even came out to say hello to the kings and queens patronizing the joint. Highly recommend

I did not know what to choose because I wanted to try a little bit of all of their sides. I ordered the Cajun seafood trio with Mac and cheese and stuffing as my sides. The seafood was delicious and I really enjoyed the crab cake. It was flaky and not breaded down as most crab cakes are. I read another review that mentioned the sauce that is poured on top of the seafood was too salty (we will address the salt later) so opted to get the sauce on the side. I'm glad that I did. The sauce is heavy and I think it would have drowned the flavoring of the seafood. The Mac and cheese is to die for. Absolutely scrumptious 😋. The stuffing wasn't your typical stuffing cooked with onions, peppers. It appeared not to have any other vegetables. I wish that it wasn't soooo salty. I could not eat it all as it actually gave me a headache. Other than that, a dressing would have complimented the stuffing because it was on the dry side. If you are eating in, you will be eating out of the to go packages and plastic utensils. This was not a problem at all. The staff was pleasant. I will definitely return.

☺️ Let me say! Their food was delicious!. It was fresh and tasty…Real southern old cooking. I had grits and fried catfish with seafood macaroni and shrimp. And the blueberry cornbread was really delicious along with their blueberry lemonade! Excellent.

The black Nile gives you a wonderful space to feel comfortable once walking in from the lights to the music. Rich in culture from start to finish, the options of the best tasting dishes to offer regarding soulfood and seafood was amazing. Whether it's a piece of fresh salmon with Mac and cheese or the crispy golden fried chicken with buttery waffles and secret sauce. No matter the choice, you will still be leaving satisfied with every bite.

Came far to try this place! Me an my guest were so disappointed! First as you enter no one to greet you ! You stand there for a very long time until you say something after I ask hello can I be. Seated it was o ok ! four different parties came in an after not being seated or even recognized they left! People kept getting up from their tables to ask for napkins for service etc! No one comes to check on you! The two young girls there was trying but they was overwhelmed! No management in site! Sad to say never going back!

Can’t stop thinking about how amazing this meal was!!! Grilled shrimp plate with the garlic parm flavor add. It comes with Mac n cheese and out of this world yams. The crab corn bread took a while to make but it was SO worth it! It was fresh, buttery and delicious. Just what I needed! I highly recommend this place!

First thing - Food is amazing! Loved the Shrimp Fries with Cajun Sauce. Cater To Me (salmon, shrimp and crab cake. They were out of Mac and cheese so I subbed in garlic Parmesan pasta) for was really good as well! Hands down; food is AMAZING! I wanted to give them 5 stars, but because of some other challenges, had to give them 3. Now the not so good. Like other reviews, service is SLOOOOW. Was given water and silverware and then waited at least 30 minutes before a customer at another table pointed out that we hadn’t had our order taken and they were taking the order for a table that sat down after us. Lots of staff around, and wasn’t very busy, so confused as to why it took so long before our order was taken. We thought maybe they were a new restaurant, but I’ve seen reviews from at least a year ago. The young man that took our order was friendly, but not terribly knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is clean, decorated fairly well, but was pretty hot. Add that with the incredibly long wait time to order and it becomes frustrating. The saving grace was the food finally arriving. One bite and I almost forgot about the slow service! I hope they figure out the service and speed issues because they have some delicious food on the menu! Oh and they were out of quite a bit… particularly the Mac and cheese which made me a bit sad. 😅

Fried whiting had really good flavor and crunch! I’m from the south so I can be kind of picky when it comes to soul food but this place was pretty decent. Mac and cheese was a little extra peppery, and the plantains were not ripe but the food is pretty good for New York standards! The customer service was immaculate though despite the long wait time, and my berry punch was bussin fr!

They take their last orders about 30 minutes before closing, so come early, and food is made to order so come when you have time to wait! Not many soul food options in my neighborhood, so I came with my 2 young children to support and have some good food. I expected a bit of a wait on a busy Saturday. I was told it would be about 30 minutes but ended up waiting for more than an hour. We ordered shrimp & fries, and fried chicken with 2 sides. It was a bit disappointing to see people with larger orders who came in after us get their food first, and my young children were restless and tired after mostly standing for so long. I nearly canceled my order for fear of missing another LIRR train, but they assured me it would be ready in another 6-8 minutes. Hasson and staff were apologetic and courteous. The food was good: tasty and fresh. My girls loved the crisp and flavor of the fried chicken and shrimp. So did I, and I enjoyed the mac and cheese. Good soul food can be hard to find in Brooklyn, so I will try them again. I'll leave the kids home next time, and I hope my 2nd visit will be a little better than the first!

I've walked past this place for months and never knew what a gem this place is. Service was A-1 and Hassan the owner was amazing. Two things to note, #1 Black Nile doesn't serve alcohol but you can but you can bring your own and #2 Everything is made to order so expect to wait at least 20+ minutes for your food. It is worth it though. The venue is small but the decor is nice and sexy. It can be a nice spot to hang out with friends or have a date night. The music was loud and lively. Our party of six order many of the items on the menu. Fried chicken, fried catfish, lobster, salmon, shrimp, crab cakes, wings, mac and cheese (regular and seafood), greens, garlic mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, potato salad, cornbread (crab and blueberry). We tried the punch and lemonade as well as the peach cobbler and banana pudding. Everything was delicious and we were all satisfied. Hassan kept us all happy and satisfied. I ordered the fried chicken with the creole gravy with crab meat. It was tasty but overwhelming for me because it was too much gravy. The chicken was fried golden perfectly. I realized I personally don't like smothered fried chicken and prefer chicken plain. The gravy and the chicken both was a little too salty so it didn't work well together. My friend said her crab cakes were salty. We all enjoyed everything else. My favorite thing was the crab cornbread a.k.a. Black Love. We demolished it so quickly I couldn't take a picture of it when it first came out. I can't wait to go back to try the brunch menu.

I went to their new location and i would absolutely go again ! Food was 10/10. I ordered the cater 2 you dish and everything was amazing. The shrimps were crispy , crab cakes were super flavorful and soft and the mac & cheese was everything i hoped it would be. The owner made it his business to greet you and make you feel welcomed!! I’ll definitely be back

Great service. Very friendly they immediately make you feel like family. Other soul food places have more options but this place is number 1 in food quality. Everything was delicious from the grits to the fried chicken to the asparagus to the jumbo shrimp. About 5 tables available for dine in.

The food was amazing! I got seated after only a brief wait, the staff were quick to take my order and follow up with us once we received it. The menu is creative, the ambience was great and the wait staff was attentive. I highly recommend them and will most definitely be back! Can't wait to try their new sliders on The Black Castle menu for the outside patio. Great dining experience!

Oh my gosh. I read through the reviews before ordering and they did NOT disappoint. I ordered the lobster tails with rice and asparagus. I added the seafood mac and cheese because of all of the great reviews. The Mac and cheese was delicious every single bite, I literally took my time to saver the taste lol. The lobster tails were great. I had them grilled , they were meaty and literally falling out of the shell which made a huge difference for me. A lot of places don’t take the time to do that. I noticed y’all! Asparagus were steamed perfectly the rice was good too. Im just not big on rice. Very generous portions as well. I am visiting in New York but I have family here so I will def be ordering again. Literally worth the five stars if you’re considering ordering please do. My food was seasoned perfectly not too salty like perfect. True seafood fresh seafood and although I ordered to go, still hot when it arrived. I usually reheat the food, didn’t have to! Bring a restaurant to Maryland 💜

Moist cornbread and I enjoyed the blueberry one as well. Love the idea of coconut yams but I can do without the coconut flakes. No complaints for anything I've had so far. Greens. Baked chicken. Fried chicken. Catfish etc. Top 5 Soul Food in NYC.

Let's just say I'm from the South and I found my Northern cousins. Loved this place. Food, atmosphere, music was on point. They showed so much love. You must experience this place if you are in Brooklyn!

They opened an hour late, and the service was extremely slow. The chicken was fried too hard and lacked seasoning, making Popeye's across the street look like a 5 star restaurant. The jumbo fried shrimp was covered in a sauce that killed the dish. When we requested to have the sauce removed, the owner replied that's how it comes and refused to accommodate the request, even though the sauce was not listed on the menu. The one star is for the shrimp and grits which was decent.

Support Black Owned Business! Everything is made fresh to order, so be patient. The owners are on site working hard in the kitchen and dining area. Food is DELICIOUS! Will definitely be going back to try other dishes. Go early because they do sell out due to high demand!

I ate at the Nostrand Ave location during Memorial Day weekend. Not impressed I ordered lobster Mac and cheese and crab cakes. Extremely salty!! I tried to eat it and felt my pressure rise. Willing to try the new location. Hopefully I will have a better experience 🙏

First off, I’m writing this review as I eat! No need to finish the review, just come! The food, the vibe, the hospitality-ON POINT! this is a spot where you need to order like 4 sides because everything is delicious. I can recommend the hand cut fries, cabbage, greens, and Mac & cheese. Everything was great. Anytime I’m in BK, I will be eating at Black Nile!

  • 5/5 Kafi H. 2 years ago on Google
What a welcoming resturant. The host/greeter was polite and ready for any questions. He expressed as soon as we walked in Sorry for the wait but it was worth it. The atmosphere had great light, great music and the food was great. After arriving a line formed, so I thank the Most High we came when we did. I loveeee corn and this was just right. The seasoning was great, with a splash of jerk. The salmon was grilled to perfection. The broccoli needed something added, the jerk sauce helped out. Cheese grits and whiting were delicious.

WOW! This restaurant is absolutely amazing. Soul food is rich in flavor and calories so it's best enjoyed ... occasionally. However, the Black Nile compels me to want to visit them frequently! Everything that I've tried on their menu so far is delicious and authentic. Please try them, you will not be disappointed. Except maybe for the wait - 😆. But it's fresh and definitely worth the wait.
