It
was
a
hot,
sunny
Saturday
October
Long
Weekend
afternoon
but
the
water
was
still,
er,
brisk
on
the
Central
Coast.
Undaunted,
we
hurled
ourselves
in
anyway
for
our
first
Australian
swim
of
this
season.
Ocean
Beach
is
a
long,
gently
curving
sweep
of
coastline
largely
sheltered
by
a
series
of
shifting
sandbars
between
Ettalong
and
Umina
beaches,
with
plenty
of
free
parking
but
not
much
in
the
way
of
facilities.
The
sandbars
make
it
a
bit
of
a
long
walk
to
deeper
water
at
the
eastern
end
of
the
beach.
The
familiar
red
and
yellow
rescue
chopper
was
buzzing
low
and
regularly,
clearly
looking
for
someone
who’d
got
themselves
in
a
bit
of
trouble.
Hopefully
that
all
ends
well.
We’ll
return
when
the
water
temperatures
increase
a
bit!
