Excellent! My wife and I live locally and decided to give this restaurant a try. Every aspect of the dining experience was superb and felt to me like eating in a restaurant in Munich. We were greeted in a very friendly and warm manner, and directed to a carefully chosen table in keeping with a request made on the reservation. Immaculate, clean tables, cutlery and dishes. Pleasant décor, albeit slightly tired looking, and a refreshing attention to detail. Menu well presented with a good degree of variety. Food terrific. Service attentive and friendly. Staff appeared professional and very motivated. This restaurant makes for a very refreshing and welcome change. I have two theories as to why this restaurant is not better known. Firstly, the Google Maps pin is in the wrong location. Secondly, there are enormous conifers that obstruct the view from the road, which could be cut down. After all, the building is beautiful. Regardless, my wife and I will be returning very soon and passing on our experience to our friends. Things move slowly in this part of the country, and providing such a commitment to excellence is maintained, more and more customers will gravitate to this restaurant. I see from other reviews that we are not alone in our findings.

Excellent food, welcoming staff, this place is a little gem. Although the room was a little small it was clean and welcoming. The breakfast was fantastic, could not fault it. The photos on the website do not do the restaurant justice. Would I eat here again, I most definitely would. 👏

Dining at Hearth is a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and restaurant charming. Amazing food EVERY TIME and fantastic service. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and make great recommendations (especially with my gluten intolerance!). Chef is clearly on top of his game with an ever changing, and always impressive, seasonal menu. A bold claim, but for me the best food experience I’ve had in Scotland… we’ve booked our next visit already 😉

Absolutely perfect for a break away. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed superbly comfortable, the restaurant amazing, the breakfasts likewise and the owners and staff as genuinely friendly and helpful as it gets. There really aren't any more superlatives to describe the Old Mill Hotel.

This review is strictly for the restaurant. A big disappointment. I heard wonderful things about the restaurant from a friend and I finally had the opportunity to try it. The menu looked interesting. I ordered the venison burger. It was pretty terrible. The burger itself was extremely dry, and had no flavor. I would put this to probably one of the worst burgers I’ve ever had. If you’re paying 19 pounds for a burger, it better be special and this was not. I didn’t complain because I didn’t want to embarrass my friend. The chips were also terrible SOGGY and limp as if they have been sitting there old. So that I’m not just complaining. Please take this advice and make some changes. Serve fresh and great chips and consider flavoring the burger more add additional ingredients to the meat so that there’s more moisture or fat. There are many great examples of burgers around the world. There’s no reason why you can’t have a fantastic one yourself. As far as the service it wasn’t great either.

This is about the restaurant. The food is overpriced to begin with, however if they had been able to elevate and present simple food well, I would have been happy. We had heard it was a good restaurant from our neighbours in Grantown on Spey. My partner's starter of pigeon was disgusting. Both of our starters were very small also , priced at 12 and 15 pounds each. Our venison mains were inedible with bizarrely small pieces of venison served with a dairy milk chocolate sauce , a tea cup of mince and tatties, with two small pieces of raw vegetables. I was shocked but determined to enjoy my birthday. We stated our complaints, were consoled, then charged full price. When we spoke to the owner and offered to pay for drinks and starters, but not my main course. I felt very generous overall, he then became very rude, condcsending and abusive. Our evening was ruined, please do not believe this man and his restaurant deserve their four stars. I highly recommend you go elsewhere!

Excellent meal made with local produce and lovingly presented. The Spanish wine was delicious and the waiting staff were very attentive and chatty. Highly recommend!

We had a nice dinner at Hearth. This certainly because the staff was very lovely and we felt very welcome from the beginning. The food was solid as well even though it had some minor shortcomings. The signature dish, the venison, was rather bland and would probably be best served whole rather than tagliata style (sliced). It would stay warmer like this and not come across dry. The fries for the burger were really muddy. I guess the kitchen uses firm cooking potatoes which should not be the case. The old fashioned as a digestif was presented very well but unfortunately was super sweet and sirupy. All in a all a nice place with some slight air to improve.
