I’m really shocked at the way my children and myself were treated by upper lever staff. I had great experiences with the front desk staff and the weight and cardio rooms/staff. The Child Watch ladies are wonderful. We have also had good experiences with swim lessons. However, I have unfortunately had several negative experiences involving the aquatics/pool department and the branch director. I shared some pretty concerning experiences with both the aquatic director and the branch director. Both were dismissive, condescending and unprofessional. As I said, there are many wonderful staff at the Y and the facilities are nice, but my experience has shown me that children are not necessarily going to be treated with the respect and dignity that they should be and if a parent complains about this, her children may be punished for it through even harsher treatment by staff (Twice I have brought a complaint to the director of the Y and twice my children received even harsher treatment from staff right after the complaint.) The director continually covered for her staff when they were clearly out of line. If this doesn't change, I believe it will continue to create a culture in the aquatics department of hostility toward children and their parents. I believe that the lifeguards' word should absolutely be final, but when they are not held accountable for hostile and harsh treatment of children and their parents, that is not safe. I was told by the director herself, "I don't mean to be rude, but it is your choice to come here." When she said that to me (a member) I realized that the issues I experienced are most likely due to a lack of caring leadership from the very top. I was taken aback at the time, but what I wish I would have said was that the Y is not her place to run as she wishes. The YMCA exists to serve the community.

There are a lot of great people working at the Waco Family Y. With that said, unfortunately, if there is an issue between a patron and an employee, leadership tends to circle the wagons and protect even their most abusive employees. That's been our experience.

I just got off the phone with the rudest lady. I didn’t bother to asking for a name, I was just trying to see how much a membership was due to my friends in Waco telling me to join for the longest. She wanted to cut me off n ask for my age, once I say I’m 26 she started giving me poor communication skills. Telling me I needed to pay $30 at the door plus $45 for the membership so I totally didn’t acknowledge her being rude. I keep it nice & I feel like she was hoping I would have changed my mind or something.. Super rude. Anyways, after reading these reviews I won’t be getting a membership. Moved to Waco n I’ve struggled with rude people so I’m going to be better and avoid problems. I can only imagine if I actually showed up to ask instead. No bueno.

Most employees are unaware of what’s going on in this facility! I asked an employee about an amenity that was not working and she told me that, “it was not her job”. But rude employees is only the beginning of the problems with this facility. I joined this gym because it offered a Whirlpool and a steam room which have never worked. I assumed that with “the changes” things would have changed. as that is not the case! These amenities that constantly go out in this facility have been happening for years. This place has only proven to be mediocre for years and years. It’s sad that Waco cannot have a nice full functioning facility to save its life.

Fantastic outdoor pool in the summers, great fitness center that is such a better deal than most gyms, and a nice place to childcare center drop my child off while I use the facilities. It's quite a good deal for everything that's offered.

Definitely not a five star gym, however they have a wide variety of facilities to work out however you see fit. Staff are all very friendly and really push the "family" feeling of the place; receptionist even greeting those entering and exiting by name! How sweet! Tl;dr: good place to workout and feel part of a friendly community

Just read my father and mother's (Eric and Brandi) reviews. My family had a terrible experience, and the people higher up didn't seem to care. Just sad.

If you're gonna be paranoid about an entirely non-threatening dude hanging out on your sidewalk for 10 minutes on his lunch break to catch a pokemon, maybe you should delist your gym.

Okay, they’ve updated the weight room. I didn’t think it was possible to like the Y more. No dubious purple machines, no fake motivational slogans on the wall, a little warm, and no windows. The Y is just a dark windowless weight room as nature intended. Even the new equipment is black and dark tan. 100% more metal. You have benches, squat racks, bars, dumbbells, sensible machines for those inclined, and no crowds. Thinking about knocking off a star due to lack of hair metal blasting from a cheap boom box. Still, the best gym in town.

I have mixed emotions about the service of this YMCA. Overall it’s good! On one hand, most of the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Twice, staff members have stopped what they were doing to give me a tour of the facility/show me something and most of them greet you warmly! But on the other hand, I’ve had some pretty negative interactions with other staff members. For instance, within my first month of joining, I was told I cannot breastfeed in the childcare area or locker room and would have to go to the family bathroom. I ended up feeding my baby in a sitting area without being bothered thankfully, and have done this a number of times now, but I was genuinely shocked to have been told that in this day and age. *Side note: they do allow breastfeeding in the women’s locker room now* Another issue would be that there is a limit of how many toddlers are allowed at one time so a couple times I’ve had to wait over an hour for spots to open up. Now to be fair to them, I have two little ones under 2 and I understand renovations are currently being done on the facility so space is extremely tight. It’s just frustrating I can’t freely come in whenever I’d like, and I often don’t come in at all, due to potentially being put on the waitlist for childcare. I’m 100% sure I’ll be leaving a 5 star review after the renovations are complete. 😊 They have AWESOME plans for the childcare center - which may not be complete until next Spring (2024).

Love being members here at the YMCA - when it comes to working out at the gym and swimming regularly! Only reason I did 4 stars was because the sauna/steam rooms along with hot tub often have maintenance issues. But beyond that have enjoyed the group classes like cycling and yoga from time to time.

First time swimming lessons for my 10 year old has been beneficial. Noah, one of her instructors, is fantastic. Kind, professional and encouraging. Fair price for classes and clean facilities.

Fun place to hangout, and shoutout to this place for letting my school used their court for our home games after the city bought the Y near our school!

🫤 I come to this location whenever visiting Waco for work and I have to say the staff are great, incredibly kind and helpful. The facilities however leave much to be desired.
