A very nice place to go to. A short walk from the car park. There is a canal with a restaurant and then there is a hiking or biking trail. All quite beautiful

Used the Cromford car park close to the rugby club to begin the short circular walk (4.5 km) up through Cromford (steep climb up the road) and down to the High Peak junction before coming mask along the canal.

Great place to visit if you have any interest in the economic history of canals and railways of the 1800's. Learn about the men who wanted to transport cotton products and stone from Derbyshire to Manchester. The railway repair shop looks just as it did the day it closed in 1967. It had been working since 1830 There is a Canal side walk past Leewood pumping Station which has an original beam engine that pumped water from the river Derwent into the Cromford canal. Pre covid, it was possible to go inside and see it working,as at Middleton Top winding house. Now powered by compressed air, you can see how the engineers built grand machines to drive industry. The disused High Peak railway track is now a popular path for waking and cyclists.

Just love this little coffee place. They do a Date cake/slab which is absolutely delicious! Coffee is good too, and all very reasonably priced. Always visit when we go cycling.

It was a lovely walk along the tow path from cromford , flat and level path with no obstacles just a slight rise from the carpark, possibly best to avoid on bank holidays could be popular with cromford mills at the other end of the canal

Beautiful and tranquil place, decent car park with parhway to the junction where there is a pleasant coffee shop alongside the canal. From here you can make your way to middleton top along the high peak trail or take a stroll along the footpath or along the canal. Well worth a visit.

You can get a really nice hot latte and some snacks and sit by the canal and enjoy the view. It's very reasonably priced and good coffee. Tea is also available as well as hot chocolate. Staff are friendly and serve you quickly. They are polite and serve you with a smile. Well worth a stop on a walk through the area.

Very reasonably priced food and drink menu, plenty of places to sit and take in the surrounding area. The visitors centre was very interesting and the gentleman on duty was friendly & welcoming. Well worth a walk down from the High peak trail or along from Cromford Mill.

Very interesting area , historic place, the old workshop with original artifacts I found very interesting from an engineering aspect. Not withstanding I do remember the Hopton rail incline actually in working use! Even seen a runaway wagon in the catch pit! The exchange area from Canal barges into railway wagon's would be amazing to witness. Keep your eyes open on the Canal to see tiny Dab Chicks dive &stay underwater for what seems impossible, only to surface & before your camera is focused dive again!

Great walk along to High Peak Junction. Although small lots of history about the old railway and canal. Little coffee and tea shop.

Always a beautiful walk that can be as long or short as you want. Plenty of options for different routes, plenty of parking (although if parking at Cromford take cash as they are still stuck in the dark ages! There is a smaller car park which takes card thankfully) with toilets both at Cromford and High Peak Junction. One of my favourite places.

Canal side seating with ice creams and snacks for sale. Brake cars from High Peak rail, one of the oldest railways in the world.

Had a lovely walk along part of Cromford canal to High Peak, took this picture which I think is stunning, captured the surrounding on the walk perfectly

Lovely pleasant person working in the shop. A range of ice creams, hot and cold drinks. You can also buy duck food. Toilets. There are good walks to Blackrocks up a steep hill or more level along the canal.

We love this place. Great atmosphere and lovely inside. Bookshop is massive and books priced cheaper than normal. You can spend an hour in the bookshop alone. Definitely worth a stop off or a special trip which we've done. They also have live events throughout the year in the cafe.

Nice attraction that I've been visiting since I was around 5 years old.. that I can remember anyway.. hasn't changed much over the years and was great to take the nephew for the first time. He really enjoyed the trains and the crashed wagon

One end of the High Peak Trail. If you start here be prepared for a significant climb almost straight out of the carpark. Toilets and a cafe to help ease you in. The views across the valley from the top of the 1st climb make it all worth while.

Really nice place to go walking around the river.. always busy here! There’s a kiosk here too that serves tea, coffee and snacks. Public toilets are also here. I would def recommend this for everyone who’s up for a nice walk, or walking their dogs.

A beautifully calming walk along the canal. You can make the walks around Cromford as short or as long as you feel. Lovely village in the heart of Derbyshire

Fascinating site of former junction of the Cromford and High Peak Railway and Cromford Canal. The former offers the start of a steep walk up the Sheep Pasture Incline where trucks were hauled by a cable from a stationary engine at the top and the latter offers delightful towpath walks with Derwent Aqueduct and Leawood Pumping Station close by. Parking (modest charge) is a few hundred yards away and there are refreshments, toilets (free), souvenirs and picnic tables all on site and in pleasant canal-side surroundings. Also open to the public (modest charge) are the old railway workshops. These boast the world's oldest railway tracks to be still in their original position. Something for all the family here!

A very nice pit stop on a walk by cromford canal. Nice views. They have cafe there where you can get light bite and some drink. They have also seats where you can enjoy cuppa or food that you have brought yourself or bought at the café. Sit and enjoy the beautiful view.

Amazing to walk around the mill opposite and see the different stalls. The cafe at the junction was particularly busy, but the best bit was the journey on the canal...lovely relaxing and informative 2 hours. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Well worth the £10 per adult..beautiful scenery too.

An unusual cave in the respect that you travel through it by boat with a guide. A great experience. Just remember to wear a coat as its cold and damp.

Pleasant walk along canal side. Nice cup of coffee and snacks with ice cream. Docked a star cos the locally made sausage roll was disappointing. Was more like a mass produced one from a chain. Otherwise a nice stop off point.

Nice walk along Cromford canal to High Peak Junction. Small outlet selling coffee etc., toilet facilties, workshop and carriage to visit.

Nice spot to start the high peak trail. Prices are a bit steep. £2.00 for a cup of tea. £1.50 for a bottle of coke. The toilets are free to use. It is however opposite the sewage treatment plant, and you can catch quite a nose full.

Lovely setting on the canal walk from Matlock, this charming place has a cafe at very reasonable prices, WC facilities and an interesting museum run by friendly people. Should you reach this the junction from Matlock take a further 10 minute walk further and stand on the aqueduct and some interesting buildings. The surrounding countryside is simply beautiful.

Beautiful location for a walk if you fancy a no frills day out near nature. Beautiful place to wander. Stopped here for a coffee and a Bakewell tart before our autumn adventure day out and staff were super friendly. Sat by the water and watched the world go by. Good quality coffee. Toilets were as you would expect but all the essentials for a pit stop.
