What a little find Carpe Diem was. Just off the Walplein this patisserie/restaurant has beautiful cakes to buy and the restaurant serves freshly cooked waffles with a choice of toppings. A lovely little terrace where there were 6 tables in a peaceful setting. Waffles were amazing, light and fluffy served with a Belgium beer. A perfect afternoon in Bruges

I've been here 30 minutes ago. I try to explain. A really, really beautiful place in a nice city. At the carpediem you can have a wonderful breakfast The room is tipical flamish style. Everything is treated in details, you can have a moment of peace sitting next to the window with the fireplace on your back. I took a cappuccino and two croissants. The Waiter was nice and perfect. I really suggest this place.

Fell upon this place when we were all getting a bit cranky for food. Amazing bakery at the front and a warren of rooms through to the back terrace. Croissants not as good as other places we had been but there was a great selection and everything we ordered was delicious. Coffee was lovely. Definitely worth the visit.

It was a cafe in Bruges that friends back home in Australia recommended. I actually enjoyed it, so many flavours, mini pickled onions, gherkins, semi sundries tomato, fennel, cucumber, red onion, leaves, baby chilies, roasted capsicum, avocado and obligatory Dutch mayo on the side. Mine was particularly good as you can see , it had the bacon. The only thing it was too big and I had no room for the special Belgian waffle. The owner was super friendly, adept at German Spanish apart from the usual Dutch and French with customers. My wife had her coffee the way she liked, liquid cream on the side. Ceylon tea was done properly with boiling water added to the leaves before it got to the table..I know right.

We had quite a late brunch and had an amazing experience at this nice cafe. There is a lovely patio at the back with a lovely ambience. We had waffles and they were the freshest that I could ever get. We wished to visit the cafe for a second time before our departure, however, the cafe is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

A morning gem for bread and pastries. Amazing sunflower crusted bread. Difficult to get breakfast because of the wait, it must be worthy...we waited for awhile, after we saw a couple being seated and served, after we were directed to sit inside, the couple was seated on the terrace.

On our first morning in Bruges we really struggled to find a place to eat a proper breakfast, it was on a Tuesday after the bank holiday so most cafes or tearooms opened at 11. We ended up eating a waffle which was simple but very tasty and fresh! So we decided to look for a nice cafe/tearoom for our final morning and we found Carpe Diem! Carpe Diem translates to ‘Seize the day’ and it was a lovely old tearoom with outdoor sitting which had a canopy that could be opened or closed! I had a croque madame with some yoghurt and strawberries and all was delicious! You could tell it was made fresh and with care! Staff were incredibly polite and kind even though we did break a glass..🙃

Good place for lunch or a tea break. Service was not bad. Price was quite reasonable for the area. Cakes and pastries are beautiful.

Came two days in a row because it was simply too good ! Lovely strawberry waffles and omelette dishes !

A great breakfast. The place was packed and people were being turned away. We managed to get the last available table. All the food was fresh. Great coffee and a decent cup of tea. Service was a little slow but the single waiter was doing a brilliant job. Dogs were welcome.

Can't recommend this place enough! I went here every single day of my stay in Brugge. They have a good selection of food, and a wide variety of waffles and pancakes. Their drinks are great as well. The staff are lovely and very quick to attend you. The interiors make you feel like you are in an old mansion.

Great bakery with very tasty (and good looking) food. We tried Quiche Lorraine and another one with potatoes, bacon and blue cheese, both were delicious! The place has great atmosphere, especially in the garden in the back, and the staff is very kind and friendly.

I don't understand how some places get amazing reviews The croissant is below average, hot chocolate is industrial, bread is edible but not great! We had an omelette and plain yogurt which both were good, the reason for not giving two stars World I go again ... absolutely not

An awesome place - delicious food, incredible cakes and the best quiche I have ever had (it's the polar opposite to the soggy bottomed, insipid quiches you typically get elsewhere!) Eat in the beautiful dining room, or grab a takeaway. Staff are awesome too!

Beautiful little pastries with explosions of flavor, while eating our first pastry we already decided to come back the same afternoon. The staff was great! A must visit hidden gem!

We were recommended this cafe on a P&O Cruises advert, and what a hidden gem it was! The staff were extremely accommodating and friendly, the waffles were fantastically light and fluffy and the coffee was great too. It was much larger inside than it looks and the decor was beautiful. Would highly recommend! (We ordered 2 coffees, and waffles with strawberries and chocolate sauce)

Top tier waffles. The sandwich was alright, interesting how it was self-assembled. Also, the portion was much larger than I thought it would be for the sandwich. The interior of the place is also very charming.

So challenging to give reviews during the Christmas period. We went on Sunday mid-morning. It was manic, and another server would have been helpful. They were working hard! This is our second time coming here for breakfast, we came in 2016, and it’s still good. The coffee (pot) was exceptional tasting. Their service was a bit off though. Bringing bread out, but waiting 10 minutes to bring out jam and ham because they are waiting on an egg to cook. The pastries were good, although their bread rolls is just… bread. I wasn’t overly fond of the cheese/ham. Just nothing exceptional or not to my taste. It was expensive for what it was, but not bad. I would return, but wouldn’t order one of the breakfast bundles (which everyone in the restaurant seemed to be ordering).

One of the best panne de chocolat I’ve ever tried. Good coffee.

Super fresh and high quality pastries and bread. They have a nice patio where they serve breakfast, including freshly made waffles. Their omelettes are huge! Staff is super friendly.

This was my family and I's favorite breakfast of our entire trip! It was a rainy morning, so we were so relieved to walk into a cozy restaurant with very friendly staff. My mom and I got the pastries and coffee. It was beautifully presented, the coffee was great, and their pastries were fresh and delicious! My dad enjoyed their country skillet, and my fiancee really enjoyed his raspberry crepe with vanilla ice cream. He also ordered a side of smoked salmon, and surprisingly the portion was larger than expected. Would definitely return!

Excellent breakfast spot. The back end of this bakery sits in a 1600’s era home (with its history well documented in the menu). The beautifully decorated tea room and terrace offer a cozy spot for a great meal, quick snack, or just coffee. The omelette was served in the frying pan it was made in, the waffles are perfect (it’s Belgium!!!) and the Croque Madame has a fantastic cheese inside as well as a great accompanying salad. Definitely worth the stop.

Best place in Brugge. Amazing kitchen, amazing deserts. Home atmosphere. Realy hard to find spare place in the morning because of this. Highly recommend!

Very nice and cozy café. Got inside because it started raining but we enjoyed our time more than we expected as we didn't look it up before getting inside. Looked like there were interesting dining options as well

After spending 7 days in Belgium and trying a lot of waffles this was the best place! Can’t describe the crispiness and at the same time they melted in your mouth. Besides that the rest of the food and coffee was amazing! Coming back without a doubt. Services was really friendly and helpful to explain everything in different languages. It’s a most in Bruges

Loved it. Bruges is a rather expensive city but this place has a great price / quality mix. Can recommend the Ordinary Breakfast for €10. Relatively cheap, coffee is served in a great way and 2 nice buns with some jam plus a comfortable place to sit. Picture is of just the coffee.

Best coffee/tea/sweets place in Brugge. I didn't want to leave. I loved everything what I ate there. Want to come back soon. Love Carpe Diem! <3

  • 2/5 Anna K. 2 years ago on Google
I agree with reviews that say the place is expensive. I ordered soup - it was nothing special and a small portion. Maybe I should have ordered a pastry to appreciate them more. I did not find the service friendly neither; rushed as the place is very busy. The waiters were indifferent and it's a long wait. There are definitely better places in Brugges once you step outside the most touristic area.
