Because of you and many mistakes you have made my UNCLE IS VERY LUCKY to be alive .... In November doctors prescribed him the wrong medication and doctors told him to take these he was taking double dose.He wasn't feeling very good at all went to his Doctor in Mold and they couldn't belive what the hospital prescribe and said you shouldn't be taking these .My Uncle is no Doctor he was told to take them.. He was still having problems many weeks after all due to the Doctors not doing there job properly. He was rushed in on the 26th December and his whole body was full of fluid & medication was still wrong. The heart Specialist said he is so lucky to be alive no thanks to WREXHAM Maylor Hospital doctors who have made so many mistakes and it worries me how many they are making. My Uncle trusted the hospital and after this he very much worried about the system and that there could be many more mistakes happening. VERY SAD .😒

Due to being accident prone, I have had the opportunity to visit A and E numerous times. Over the years, they have renovated it a few times, to make it SMALLER, Even though there are more people now than ever in Wrexham, with the University, City Status etc. The Medical staff are halved. The longest I had ever had to wait in any A and E is 12 hours, until 4th June 2023. My daughter had to rush me in as I been experiencing severe stomach pains on the right side, vomiting etc for 3 days. We arrived at 1pm. The waiting room was standing room only by then. I suffer from anxiety and my major trigger are crowds, so I wanted to go back home. But no. Anyway, it took quite a few hours to be seen by the 1st doctor, who diagnosed appendicitis and prescribed painkillers for the moment, And he was going to bring the surgeon registrar to confirm. Back to waiting room. No painkillers. 12.05 am 5th, registrar arrives, diagnosed appendicitis, being admitted for surgery, but no bed in SAU so had to wait in a and e. Still no painkillers. BTW, my daughter kept asking about painkillers. By 12.30, I decided to sign myself out, but was persuaded to have intravenous antibiotics 1st. Still in the waiting room were 10 people waiting for beds, 4 of which for SAU, and all before me. I signed myself out. Later that morning I was back , pain worse. Couldn't eat, sleep or drink. After 4 hours of waiting to be seen again, I was told I was not waiting to see a doctor because they knew what was wrong, I was waiting to go up to SAU. no one had to me. Obviously no beds again and even more people waiting for one, some still there from the night before. This time they gave me painkillers. After being prodded by numerous doctors, all expressing it was appendicitis BTW, I had ct scan which showed it wasn't. They didn't know what it was. So I could go home. No explanation, nothing. Over 36 hours. The only staff who were concerned about the patients were two lovely Red Cross ladies who offered tea and Sandwiches. I'm sorry but the department was filthy. Nursing staff, Doctors and reception staff were totally unhelpful, unsupportive, and no duty of care to anyone. There were worse people than me in there, and they left them there in waiting room. Triage is a waste of time. Some staffed lied about 1 thing or another to someone. I have been told to remember that they are overworked, under stress and not paid enough. But, so are everyone else atm. Its not unique to them. Sorry.

Truly appalling service and treatment all-round. An ambulance was sent by the out-of-hours GP at 7am; I had major surgery last week, and my surgical stitches had come completely undone, resulting in constant bleeding. By the time the ambulance arrived, my condition was worsening with an inability to stand, profuse bleeding and debilitating pain. The attendees did not assist in any which way, leaving me to descend my staircase alone and making me enter the ambulance unaided. Upon arriving at the hospital's A&E department, the triage nurse offered no pain relief and told me I'd "just have to wait nine hours [to be seen by the doctor]". At no point was my bleeding checked nor was any pain relief offered, contradicting the advice of the out-of-hours GP and the urgent nature of my condition. I was discharged at 5pm with no care given to the open wound - my condition worsened as a direct result of the staff's inadequacies and flagrant disregard for protocol. The service is not fit for purpose.

My daughter had a camera performed here for stomach issues, the nurses on the day ward were so rude to her and had her leaving in floods of tears after refusing her pain relief when she was vomiting blood after it telling her 'there is nothing wrong with you you're just trying to make people think you're ill when you're not, after attending Glan Clwyd she found out she had stomach ulcers, a hernia and a prolapse, two of those needing major operations. Not bad for someone who is just trying to make people think they are ill. This has given her a phobia of hospitals now. Disgusting doesn't come close to describing her treatment.

ROBBED OF WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! Maternity ward staff treat fathers like sperm donors. The staff are still living in the ages where fathers didn’t have equal rights to their children. Midwives and HCA’s barely even acknowledge your existence and do not include you in discussions around decisions involving your own children. Will speak to the mother as though they are the only person in the room, majority of the time they won’t even look at you. Ruined what should have been the best day of my life by robbing me of important bonding time with my daughter, not allowing me to stay with her or my partner who had just had probably the toughest four days of her life, despite the fact she was in a private room not an open ward. Mom and baby’s bond is important to them, dad and baby’s bond is not even remotely in their mind. All they do is cry about how understaffed they are..I could have changed my baby’s nappy, I could have changed her clothes, I could have helped her mom to the toilet but instead I’m stuck in a hotel room looking at my baby through a screen when all I want to do is hold her. FATHERS OF WREXHAM MAELOR! SCREAM UNTIL YOUR LUNGS GIVE OUT! WE WANT ACCESS TO OUR OWN FLESH AND BLOOD! WE WANT TO BE TREATED AS EQUALS! OUR BOND WITH OUR BABIES IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS MOMS. Complain to the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Write to your local MPs, Contact local newspapers. I want to P.S this by saying they aren’t all like this, but the majority are. It’s a systemic problem that requires immediate change from the top down. I don’t want any father to feel the way I do tonight, longing for my baby.

From the moment the paramedics delivered me I received professional care. The Maelor is exceedingly busy and the staff work long challenging shifts. At all times I felt safe and cared for. I was in theatre 24 hours after I arrived having been diagnosed & prepared in the most reassuring manner. In and out in under 3 days with a follow up care that is inspiring complete confidence. I didn't enjoy the catheter though. . A resounding thunderous cheer for everyone.....

This was my review around 6 months ago but because I've edited it, Google says it's from today - 20th December 2019! I have now been sat in A + E in Wrexham Hospital for over 7 hours. My throat has swelled up around some food that I couldn't swallow and I haven't been able to drink anything in 9 hours, not even water or saliva. They've just announced its a 9+ hour wait to see a doctor. I know the UK NHS is in real trouble but this is rediculous! I will probably have to be checked in and put on a drip, missing work this morning. Doesn't even deserve 1 star! Edit: I typed this review while in Accident and Emergency, more than a bit peeved - as everyone got seen before me, even those that arrived after me! Even the junkies were seen before me as well as people who were just limping and needed an excuse to stay off work! In the end I was seen after 12 hours in there and 14 hours without a drink! When I asked to be seen because I was desperate for some water, I was told that I would survive for 12 hours without water - this is the modern day NHS I'm afraid, survival without the comfort! The reason I was seen eventually was because there was a shift change where the morning staff were coming on shift. 3 doctors for the day shift, as opposed to the one doctor at night! One doctor for 40 patients or 3 for 6 patients in the morning! Don't get ill at night in Wrexham! The staff all do a wonderful job with the resources they have and the NHS is underfunded severely but maybe the doctors could work when they are needed most? I've had to work day and night shifts before, why can't we have more doctors on the night shift? I had to have the day off to recover and sleep, so lost a day of my annual sick allowance at work - I only get 4 in any 12 month period! If I'd have been seen by 10 or 11pm, I could have gone home around 2am and got up after 4 hours sleep and 'survived' the next day at work! The blockage eventually cleared after 17 hours and I could have a sip of water, phew! I'm afraid the 1 star still stands!

will not post without a star - doesn't deserve 1! Shocking patient care - have experienced this 5-6 times over the last year due to my husband having a severe stroke. He has been left now having seizures and he was discharged yesterday and put into the patient lounge without telling me - for context he has Aphasia (cant talk) after the stroke and I'm his full time carer (while holding down a job). New medication given without any additional instructions or GP/pharmacy letter. Fuming and no idea where to go with this!

If you are in need of emergency care and in a seriously bad way, do NOT even think about using Wrexham Maelor A&E. You will be kept in the waiting area for 20+ hours before you are even seen by the triage. The treatment at this hospital is abysmal and the staff do not have a single care in the world if you are on the brink of death. You will be given the most basic form of treatment for anything, and the hospital won't even run any checks or causes to your condition or ailment, and prioritise just getting rid of you as quick as possible. If you value your life and the care you receive, you will stay as far away from this hospital as possible. The staff will treat you horribly and smirk as you explain to them what us wrong with you. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU AVOID WREXHAM MAELOR A&E AND GO TO CHESTER INSTEAD. 1 star is even too much to give this hospital. They've killed so many people due to negligence its inconceivable.

This is a brilliant hospital where I have been looked after very well. There is an excellent cafe and several toilets. Plenty of parking spaces with disabled places too. Though you need to go in good time before your appointment on order to get parked!! The hospital is clean and tidy and easy to get around with plenty of signs showing where you need to go. And all the staff are very helpful.

Staff were amazing with my partner after the birth of our first child, complications in labour meant an emergency c section was needed.....the staff in theatre literally saved my daughters life and the midwifes on Lawson Tait were fantastic with both mother and daughter for the following week they were both admitted for. I will forever be grateful for all that was done for them and I just hope the staff read these reviews and see how much all the hard work is appreciated.

Shocking A&E!! Still waiting after 11 hours for my husband to see a Doctor!! He was sent with a referral letter by GP and to attend immediately!! Thought it was awful 18 months ago when I sat in a chair in A&E for 9 with a broken hip!!!

I cannot thank the staff in A&E enough for their professionalism and the exceptionally thorough job they did Sunday afternoon, 13 Sep to repair the gashed elbow I gave myself coming of my bike at Llandegla. I had the Senior Registrar spending a couple of hours thoroughly cleaning out all the bits embedded in a wound that went down to the bone, then stitching it up. Top class care from everyone, giving me medicines to keep infections at bay, anti tetanus, and pills to go home with. It all worked - only a couple of weeks later it has healed up a treat and not much left to show anyone unlucky enough to hear my story ;). Many thanks to everyone who attended me, you are all stars.

My experience on the Early Pregnancy Unit today was so nice and it was all thanks to ward manager Beverley. She was so warm and friendly and took the time to explain everything and reassure me the best she could. I previously had a miscarriage in February so I was really struggling at the idea of having another scan. Panic attacks and tears days before. I honestly didn't think I could go through with it. But Bev made me feel so at ease, she felt like a mum being there for support. I must say the staff in the ultrasound department were not so warm or friendly. The sonographer and other staff member in the room were robotic, they looked at me with complete blank faces and spoke to me like I was taking up their time. My baby thankfully had a heartbeat this time around, and I got a "there's the heartbeat & it's in the right place" as she quickly and briefly swung around her monitor screen at me. I couldn't even speak. Throughout the whole thing I just lay there tense and silent. No congratulations, no are you okay? She then said to me "I'll print you off a picture but put it straight in your bag because not everyone has good news". I understood why she said that but the way she said it was like I didn't deserve to be happy. It felt like she didn't want to bother but had to. I wanted to say bluntly back "yes I know, I've had a miscarriage and you were the sonographer just a few months back, and it was the worst day of my life". As a paediatric nurse and also going through a miscarriage myself, I think its safe to say I know when to be discreet and sensitive to others. She could have at least bothered to look at my notes or ask me questions. I honestly felt like they were annoyed by me just being there. Thank you so much Bev for taking the time to speak to me like a person. You're kind consideration and empathy will never be forgotten. We need more nurses like you everywhere.

July 8th attended A&E around 09.30 am after a fall. Polite receptionist. Waited about 30 mins to see a nurse, then another 30 mins to see a Doctor. He sent me for X ray, 10 mins wait. Back to A&E for result, wait 15 mins then off to Orthopaedics, 30 min wait. Dr explained fracture and wanted more Films. Back to X-ray, no wait and brilliant radiographers and their student sorted out more films. Back to Orthopaedics, 5 mins wait and saw Dr and nurse, who explained treatment, sorted a brace / boot and suggested how I get followed up back at home. Very efficient and helpful staff, listened to me and were pleasant. Happy with my treatment. Thank you.

Fantastic People, the crew who came out to see my 89yr old father were superb, very kind and compassionate. When he was in A&E and was confused and unsettled, it was another ambulance crew member who cared for him and put him at ease. What a star he was. The nurses, assistance other staff couldn't care less.

Had to be admitted to A&E on Tuesday with severe pain in my left leg. I was then admitted to ACU ward and I just want to say that all of the staff are,and were amazing.❤ I can only call these wonderful people warriors. Their dedication and care to everyone was selfless unquestionable proffesional and pure dedication. I left reassured in the knowledge that my care was 1st class. I wish I had more adjectives to describe these wonderful warriors. You deserve more than a star rating. Take care be kind and be safe.

Please think of the overworked staff at this hospital and how they must feel having to keep patients waiting, especially in A and E. My recent stay in A and E majors was a revelation. Shortage of beds, extremely busy staff but I was met with professionalism, kindness and the best of care. Thank you all. Countrywide there is a shortage of NHS staff. I’ve recently moved into the Wrexham area and transferred my midwife care when I did. I had never visited the Maelor hospital before and so was apprehensive about giving birth there. I was a low risk pregnancy and therefore admitted to the Midwife Led Care unit. Upon admission I was assessed and then shown to a private room (Room 2). The room was wonderful, so lovely I cried with happiness. I had my own birth pool surrounded by fairy lights and led candles, a music system, and calming projections onto the ceiling. My birth experience was absolutely fabulous. The midwife who oversaw my delivery, Karen, was wonderful. A calming presence throughout my labour. Baby was born 11am on 16th October and we were discharged by 4pm as I had a straight forward delivery. I couldn’t fault a single aspect of my experience at the Blair Bell unit and would like to say a huge thank you to all involved. I am beyond grateful for having the birth experience I had always hoped for. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Cannot fault them. I attended on Friday 14th October from reception to receiving treatment was excellent and all done within an hour. Thank you so much.

A review I dont really want to write but we recently took our little girl in with a split lip after 7 hours we were told it would just heal the wound want cleaned or checked thoroughly and we were sent on our way at 4am. After cleaning the lip when we arrived home we could see to our untrained eye that stitched would be required after seeking a second opinion it was confirmed that an operation is needed and an appointment was booked at Alder Hey, had we not followed up our little girls could have been left with a disfigured lip thankfully we rejected the professional advice. Maybe some advice to take on board for the doctors or professionals at wrexham if you dont have the time to address the issue fully due to a busy evening advise parents to seek further reassurances dont just tell parents "it will be fine, on your way now", by questioning the advice given we have saved our little girl a lot of issues.

Inefficient and unempathetic. I was told I needed to have a procedure overnight. Months later I got a letter for the appointment which mentioned nothing about the procedure. When I phoned I was told that the appointment was for me to collect equipment that I should bring back home. Now, just a couple of days before the appointment, I am told that the equipment is very expensive, and in short supply, so I have to use it at home overnight and take it back the next day. I live at least two hours' drive away from this hospital. They cannot courier the equipment to me, they cannot send it to my nearest hospital two miles away for me to collect, they cannot give me an appointment to stay overnight in the hospital any closer than two years from today, and the Patient Liaison number for the Health Board of this hospital just has a message (which you hear 15 minutes or so after holding on for someone to amswer) that there is jo one available to answer your call. Utterly disappointing and annoying.

Appalling hospital ! Though none of them are any better ! After being crushed under a gate with several cows pushing on it and being in agonising pain with a badly injured shoulder a leg injury and a back injury, numbness in the fingers headache etc, he’s still sitting in a&e - second one as first one ran out of X-rays ??!!!! some 10 hours later ! Not ok to go to urgent care ! Seriously!! Do you need to be bleeding out and making a mess for that ?! They’re rude and don’t care that he’s getting worse, the attitude is just shameful. This NHS is an absolute shambles, an embarrassment. They don’t take complaints seriously either so basically they don’t take responsibility for anything. No wonder so many people don’t bother seeking help and end up self medicating or worse ! The worst thing is that the majority of staff are rude and unfriendly, there’s no excuse for that, ever !

Pre op excellent ,day of arrival staff very accommodating ,theatre staff did everything to make me as comfortable and at ease as is possible.Waking up to post op was as expected, ward staff very helpful .Following day after being moved to discharge lounge at 9.30am I waited for my medication and waited.Discharge sister did all she could BUT system lost my notes misplaced any notification to pharmacy even lost me from my consultant list ? I was not there. Finally at 1645 after SEVEN HOURS an the discharge sister exhausted every possible contact including duty SHO duty REGISTRAR duty UROLOGIST MATRON and UNIT MANAGER none of whom responded to phone calls pagers or PRAYERS I left without medication and a promise it would be sorted.Following morning received a call from a very relieved discharge sister my notes had been located but as I lived an hours drive away my meds would be passed through to Glan Clwdd pharmacy on the following Monday.Following further telephone meds then passed to Colwyn Bay out patient department finally gratefully received my antibiotics just before 5pm.Following surgery and not being allowed to drive caused obvious problems,Very grateful that my son did the running around for me.In conclusion try not to be discharged on a Friday PM.

The only downside was they were short staffed - really hope the Govt can sort this out and support the staff that do amazing work and show great mental resilience to go through this.

Once recover from this knee injury I’m considering putting myself in a bubble! Why to start off I went to A&E the morning after my injury and I would only go there if I really need to as I do put into consideration if I would waste their time or not… Lucky me waiting times wasn’t as bad but I was seen to by a doctor who’s attitude was terrible! Saying he couldn’t find anything wrong with me considering my knee was swollen like a balloon and that I was in a wheelchair the whole time as I could not bare any weight on it, was sent to X-ray only to be told it came back normal and then to be asked if i was just telling myself I was injured… in the end I took some crutches and left since they weren’t going to do anything else to help me, but luckily my GP got back to me and referred me to a musculoskeletal and when I was there the lady had my X-ray and she found some abnormalities in my X-ray which the doctor in A&E didn’t notice so then I had to go to orthopaedics where my knee was examined but only to be sent for an URGENT MRI… It’s been over a month since my MRI and have had no results, I’ve called almost everyday after those 7-10 days I was told only to get “we’ll call you once you get the results” I’m here still unable to walk and struggling with my everyday tasks wondering should I be taking up Physio?? So yeah maybe in a year or so probably when I recover wrap me up in cotton! Because I know if I ever get injured again I’ll reach old age by the time I get some treatment done!

My GP sent me into hospital with suspected diverticulitis. Arrived at SAU and was put under the care of Mr Stewart - consultant - this man was wonderful! He quickly established that the problem wasn't diverticulitis but continued on to establish what was wrong with CT and Ultrasound scans, blood tests, referred on to the appropriate team, carried out some of their tests and even had an appointment made to see that team ASAP. Fantastic care and certainly going above and beyond the duty of care - what a fantastic consultant!!!

My father has been admitted to Maelor hospital to emergency unit. I have to say the staff is amazing and took a good care of him. Everyone was very friendly and professional. I couldn't ask for abetter team to look after him. I do have to add that it could be even more effective if they have a few more stuff to get the workload off the existing one. But still this is higher management issue. The stuff, nurses, doctors cleaners are absolutely amazing and they work really hard to make sure everyone has got what they need. Thank you.

I was brought in by ambulance while I was camping locally and received top quality care from ambulance team, nurses and doctors. Treated with excellent professionalism, compassion and speedy assessment. I can honestly say this is the best of the NHS. They deserve a good pay rise and total recognition for their dedication. Wish NHS England was this good.

Had an accident on 18/11/2022 and taken to A and E at the Maelor. Seen by Triage Nurse after an hour and then by a Dr 2 hours later (which isn't bad seeing there were lots of patients waiting and staff overwhelmed). Dr examined me and requested xrays, resulting in 2 fractures in left ankle and a displaced talus bone. Seen by Orthopedic team shortly after and admitted to Mason ward. Sucessful surgery of metal plate and screws the following morning by Dr JR Carter (who informed me I was his first patient as a Consultant) and his fantastic team. Inpatient for 3 days before discharge. I cant fault the excellent care and treatment i recieved from all the doctors, nurses, admin and housekeeping staff. Im on the mend now.

Absolutely fantastic staff. I had surgery here and everyone was so friendly and efficient. My surgeon, Dr Agarwal, was exceptional. I would have zero hesitation in recommending this hospital.

Sat in hell (sorry A&E). Arrived at 4pm, 5th May with my sister in law who is suffering heart problems.15hrs+ wait. Disgusting comments from Nurses, lied to all night by reception staff. Woman had a heart attack in waiting area, told to sit and wait. Another collapsed in pain. Shocking service from the hospital

Absolutely outstanding, every single person I came into contact with whether they be Dr, Nurse, NA, Receptionist, Porter or Housekeeper was amazing, professional, polite, efficient and caring. I was swiftly seen and thankfully here to tell the tale. Thank you Maelor Staff, you are amazing.

I have been on children’s ward for 4 nights and I couldn’t fault 1 staff member. I have never met such a fantastic bunch of people all putting children first. Specially nurse Emily S, she deserves some recognition for her hard work and dedication to children. She was so kind and consistent through my stay and build up a fantastic relationship with my little girl. She was so patient and caring. All the staff on the ward were so accommodating to us both but the nursing staff were amazing.

Had to go to the A&E Department yesterday to have an in dwelling catheter changed, I have Spina Bifida, we were quite reluctant to go, but all took precautions and didn’t have to wait very long to be seen, the gentleman who I saw was very helpful, hopefully won’t need catheter change for a while, but will go back there.

I wish to convey my sincere thanks to the wonderful members of the renal team and all who looked after me during my stay following a procedure. Staff are happy, friendly and positive and this reflects in the general aura on each ward area I was placed. I am aware that this hospital has received much criticism but having experienced another within the trust I would never want to go elsewhere. Well done Wrexham Maelor! And thank you!!

I have been asthmatic since I was five. I am able to live a active life as long as the inhaler are working. In August last year I was send in to the hospital from my gp surgery as my inhaler was not working. The ambulance was call and they were great. A and e was Brilliant got transferred to a ward. Was told off by nurse and dr telling to going home to rest as you are fine you have stress and anxiety. When back to my gp two weeks later as dr told me to rest this is a chest dr. My gp give me a new inhaler and it work. When back in November to see register in chest clinic and got discharge because I was back to normal and they are the one who are trained in my condition and it was my gp who help me.

Brought here by ambulance from other side of Wales at midnight with 8 year old son and breathing problems the paramedics gave him steroids and cause he settled when he was here they kept saying 6 hours wait then said to go home because he was better at midnight no bank card to get home because it was a rush to leave couldn't come in my own car because they said it was an emergency staff on reception so rude and unpolite floors filthy stain marks fresh spilled drinks everywhere rubbish on chairs and we're going through a so called pandemic smackers hanging out front by main doors and no one does anything absolutely disgusting will be going mp and putting pictures up

The aesthetist was wonderful with my son immediately picked up that he was anxious and the surgeon came to speak to him too. Nurses were ok too but my concern was the lack of direction and the only real demonstration of authority I saw was a nurse being called sister which these days of enlightened understanding of psychology we are all aware that this is just pandering to a weak ego. Better management required

Two quick and professional in and outs to outpatient clinics in the last month for me. I found the all staff I met to be friendly and very helpful and I felt reassured and informed. The epitome of an NHS hospital in modernity, understaffed, underfunded and under pressure, without letting it show.

Visited the Eye Department (Out Patients Department) over the last few months. The care I have received has been excellent. The Department is obviously very busy but the professionalism and care from the staff I cannot fault. Everything was explained to me and the staff were so friendly. Thank you.😊

I've nothing but praise for the Maelor and it's staff,I've been in and out for tests, scans, and an op,and throughout my experiences I've been met with concern, empathy and good humour. Despite obviously being short of staff, and during such trying times, they've dealt with me promptly and had me in and out without the feeling of being rushed. A credit to themselves and the NHS.
