Lovely pub, offering great food and service. This venue offers a great menu selection with very reasonable prices. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. The pub offers good disability accessibility and has a good sized car park. Large, appealing beer garden with swings and small adventure playground for the children. Highly recommended.

Very poor. The order was wrong, only in minor ways. The food was very poor. Chunky chips were mushy, onion rings were greasy steak had no flavour, not had to season my own steak for a bit of flavour. Burger wasn't right. Best bit was the skinny fries which were probably frozen. It has to go in my top 10 worst places. It's a shame as looking in fron the outside it looks really nice place to eat.

It's a nice restaurant in Wales, it's about 10 to 15 minutes drive from the Chester Business park. The restaurant looks quite ancient though. It's not really like the regular kind of restaurants you see in a town. The food was lovely. I like the promptness in serving the food. The staff are really lovely, nice and very welcoming. The restaurant's price list is quite on the high side though considering the size of the portions. But overall, the service is nice and I would recommend it for people looking to have like a team lunch or dinner.

The place is lovely, food good but it would not hurt the staff to put a smile on their face, or when asked for a knife and fork, not to go off sighing as though it was too much trouble. Neither were we asked if the meal was okay, would we like more drinks or tea and coffee.

I was lucky enough to be taken here for a working lunch and I was mightily impressed. It’s been around a while you know! This was the first place I tried the non alcoholic gin - they had two and it was the Tanqueray I tried. I really enjoyed the food, my colleague had the same as me and we shared the whipped feta style cheese with tomato. We had to get back to work but I would have loved to have enjoyed that place some more. It was extensive and also quite busy

Excellent food and environment! Doesn't look much from the front; but once you go in, it's lovely! Before 5pm, there's a good 2/3 course deal too! :)

Great place to relax. Large parking lot that will accommodate many guests. Pleasant and cozy atmosphere to relax. You will be served quickly and efficiently by friendly staff. A large selection of different delicacies that will definitely please you with their rich taste. Since the food is prepared with soul and attention to detail, so that from the first bite you feel a rich taste. Portions are large so you won't leave hungry. Decent selection of desserts for all tastes. A great place for a family vacation, or to meet friends, or a date. You will be satisfied.

Absolutely 💯 recommend this well run establishment, the service was superb the food delicious and the gaffer in charge hugely welcoming. We dined for lunch in the tippee garden dining, such fun and comfortable atmosphere 😀 met friends from afar, hence the visit. Parking so easy. Great menu and bar excellent. Thanks 👌

I've had a right tough day. Successful meetings in the morning but when it came to trying to return to Conwy the roads and weather were a nightmare. After getting lost in the hills I needed a toilet break, a cold Guinness and to sit in a quiet corner to write up some work. I found The Golden Lion. The beautiful soul who gave me a wee hideaway in the corner, got me a couple very well pulled and delicious Guinness AND even told me because it was Friday the wee awkward table I had was going to be sold. But she offered me a little more time. I'd not hold people away from a nice dinner on a Friday and by the time I was leaving the restaurant was filling with happy eaters and the smell of food from a kitchen that knows their onions. It's the small things that really make your day though and I wish I could quote you her name! Auburn, brown hair, glasses, a few smart tattoos, clever and efficient. Much to my shame I didn't leave a tip! Ball dropped. Don't be like me. Eat their food and tip their staff 😂 ***I've ONLY given a 3 for food because I read the menu and didn't eat. I was also only there for a couple hours at most hence 3 for atmosphere***

Came with my husband and 11 month old daughter. Even though it was busy we had a lovely relaxed dinner (highly recommend the roast dinner platter - excellent value for money and all the meats were cooked perfectly) and service was friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend.

Nice burger but the starter was poor, defrosted prawns in a pool of Marie Rose sauce. The mackerel fillet we expected to be fresh, but it was a smoked fish reheated. It wasn't expensive but we could see why. Two of the ladies toilets had broken locks.

I was in the Teepee 22/07/23 for my friends Hen Party. My overall experience was absolutely fantastic, I would certainly give it TOP MARKS. I couldn't fault it and I will definitely recommend it to others. Thank You to the staff as requests were dealt with in a timely manner, food was delicious.

Wonderful Christmas Meal, the staff where very helpful, friendly and service was prompt for a busy evening. Both the meal and drinks were quickly served to the table and very tasty. For £23 2 courses were large portions and well worth the money. They have different areas to cater for all kinds of gatherings. Families, children, couple, friends etc. Car park is large and a bus stop in very near by servicing Chester and Wrexham buses.

My husband and I went to the Golden Lion yesterday for our wedding anniversary and though the restaurant was very busy, we were served promptly and the food arrived within 15 - 20 minutes. In the meantime, we took in our surroundings. We were in a pleasant room with 8 tables which was spotlessly clean, well decorated and had pleasant views of the garden. The staff were chatty and helpful and the food was lovely. I had worried that the service would be slower if we weren't ordering the Sunday roasts but rather went for steaks; but no, they arrived quite quickly, were cooked to a perfect medium rare and were beautifully tender. The sauce accompanying my husband's steak was mushroom and chorizo and was really tasty, and everything was piping hot and perfectly cooked. For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and toffee sauce which was as light as a feather. I have not visited this pub for about 25 years, but as many of our usual haunts have 'gone downhill' since the pandemic and their service has deteriorated badly (and the food content!), we thought we would give the Golden Lion a try; we were delighted with it and are now kicking ourselves for not visited previously. We will DEFINITELY be going back there, the ambiance is good - despite being busy, it was not noisy, the service was good and the food excellent with plenty of choice. There were midweek offers advertised and indoor or outdoor eating. Only criticism I can think of (and only if I am being picky) is that they were slightly slow bringing the bill. Lovely afternoon spent with lovely food is pleasant surroundings, great day!

We had Sunday lunch today at the Golden Lion after being recommended this pub by a work colleague. Upon arrival our waitress said hi, and showed us to our (dirty) table. She was a young teenager, as were most of the waiting on staff, this is probably so that the management can pay them £5 odd per hour to save money. She looked knackered bless her, dark circles under her eyes. Our table was strewn with salt, and we had booked a 12 o'clock session so that the food would be fresh. Under the table was filthy, hadn't been cleaned for a while. Our food arrived, I had roast beef and belly pork, missus had roast turkey. The gravy was lovely, this was the highlight. Veg was undercooked and hard, Yorkshire pudding was stodgy not crispy. Beef not cooked pink, it was well done and lacking flavour. The belly pork fatty and the crackling having the texture of rubber. This food was underwhelming I'm afraid. My wife is a Head Housekeeper at a Chester hotel, so has an eye for detail and cleanliness, she reported that the ladies toilets were in a filthy state also. I accepted a 10% discount on our bill but to be honest should have had at least 25%, my fault. The Golden Lion experience is a long long way behind the Pant Yr Ochain. We won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend it to others based on our experience.

Superb interior, it feels like "old, good England" inside. Good food and attentive service. We enjoyed our business lunch a lot. Spacious parking place, "the only one between Chester and Wrexham" (acc. the owner) hence often misused by non-customers.

My husband and I regularly drink in the golden lion and we have eaten here several times but as we were recently going to celebrate our joint birthday we decided to book some tables for Sunday lunch to bring our family. We spoke to Lucy the restaurant manager and explained what we would like and Lucy planned the seating arrangements for us and took the pre orders for the meals. On the day everything went like clock work, the waiting on staff were efficient and professional and served us with a smile. The food was excellent, hot and plentiful. We all had a fabulous time. There were 24 of us including 6 children and so it can't have been easy to see to all the other guests in the restaurant. We all had a fabulous time. I can't recommend it highly enough.

9 of us went for a birthday meal on a busy Sunday afternoon. 1 10 month old and one very fussy eater. The lady who took our order was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, patient with the fussy one and so helpful finding appropriate foods for the baby. The food when it arrived was excellent, all of us had empty plates and would not hesitate to go back there again. 10/10.

Service wasn't great, had to be asked to be served each time as I think we were forgotten about, being sat on a table tucked away in a corner despite pre-booking. Ordered the roast dinner platter and it was like something from a Wetherspoons. Dry chicken and over-steamed soggy veg. Will not be visiting again!

Went here yesterday for the first time in many many years for a farewell meal. Both the staff and food was 10 out of 10. Good choice of cask ales to choose from as well as flavoured find etc.

The pub it's self is beautiful, food was lovely and the staff were friendly. We waited a little while for our food to arrive but when it did, it was worth it! Would definitely recommend 👌🏻

Popular gastro pub doing great food and a range of good beers and wines. Service is quick and friendly. Sunday roast was good but the veggie option was gone by 7pm. Only regret was one waitress with strong perfume floating around kind of spoiled the ambiance.

A great little pub restaurant in the village of Rosset. I was staying near by so called in for a bite to eat to my dismay there were no tables available for food I decided to have a drink while I was there the barmaid said she would see if the kitchen could fit me in to which I extremely grateful. I had the home made steak pie that was probably the BEST STEAK PIE I have ever had. The pastry was just thick enough to flake when cut into the steak was so tender that it melted in the mouth and the gravy was absolutely delicious. If you are in the area it would be a crime to yourself not to visit if you can get in. I will definitely be going back again if I'm in the area thank you all at The Golden Lion.

👍 Always very good quality, quite expensive but not more than any local similar restaurant. Difficult to order ahead at busy times and doesn't take cards. But probably the best Chinese food around the area and always pleasant staff.
