Considering they were obviously very short staffed the people working did a great job to please everyone, from reception to dining room staff. We booked with Groupon. £135 for a standard room, 2 course meal with a bottle of wine plus breakfast. The room was great with an amazing comfy bed, tea and coffee plus old fashioned bath. Dinner had a great selection, breakfast as much as you wanted. For that price you really couldn't fault it. The interior of the castle is amazing and peacocks roam around the grounds. After dinner we really enjoyed relaxing with a drink around the open fire where we met another local couple who were really friendly. The castle is in a lot quaint old fashioned town which is worth a wander around. We will definitely go back and enjoyed dressing up and feeling lord and lady of the manor for an evening. Heartily recommend a visit!

Had four nights in this lovely place. Good food, extraordinary peacocks, very quirky and historic building. But the most wonderful thing about our visit was the kindness of the staff. Every member of the team was welcoming, helpful and friendly. We had a very comfortable and relaxing time.

Outstanding stay here, we had a suite and it was beautiful. Spotless rooms, excellent shower and views out of our windows were spectacular. Staff at every stage were lovely and so helpful. We brought our little dog and she was made a fuss if and given treats so she was thrilled. The castle is old but has lots of character and charm. Grounds are beautiful to look round. Can’t wait to come back

Really lovely historic place to stay. Very clean and very comfortable. Staff all lovely. Food good. The grounds are beautiful overlooking great views. The peacocks roaming around are friendly too. We'll worth a short visit or a longer break as a very good base to explore north wales

Had a birthday voucher to use for a meal. The setting was nice. The meal was lovely, the service was excellent BUT, it was off-putting on arrival to find that they'd just had a zero food hygiene rating! Given that they've had 2 years of virtually no business due to Covid, there are undoubtedly problems with getting experienced staff behind the scenes and can only hope that the Castle fights back to get its previously good record...

Absolutely beautiful building and lovely grounds with the ruins of the old castle and loads of peacocks!! The room was nice and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The evening meal in the restaurant was really good. The library bar was lovely for sitting with a couple of drinks. The staff were all very lovely and friendly. The only slight downside for us was that we found the breakfast too greasy for our personal taste, (but everyone else seemed to be enjoying it) and there were no vegetarian sausages. A few more teabags and toilet rolls in the room would be a good idea. Other than that we would definitely return as we loved it and would highly recommend it.

I had a nice stay because of the company I was with. However, it seems that staff shortages are making it difficult for them to provide a service they promise to offer (spa). After reading reviews it seems this has been going on for a while so I don't understand why the spa manager was acting surprised when we arrived and she said she could only offer 25 minute massage instead of 50 minutes each. We were also offered a "mud bath" to make up for the changed massage. It was a cold shower room with seats in and a bowl of mud. This is literally not an exaggeration. It was hilarious! We just got left at the area without being told what to do or what the treatment entailed :') The hot tub was lovely and we stayed in there for a few hours with drinks. Staff were dressed in track suits/ casual wear which was a bit odd The Spa just needs shutting until they can provide a proper service. Samantha at reception was amazing, so welcoming, she is a good face of Ruthin Castle, very welcoming. The suite was lovely, the grounds are pretty, evening meal was gorgeous but the breakfast is questionable. It wasn't worth the money we paid but I had a lovely time regardless because we laughed at the awkwardness of it all :') For a hotel stay and food it was fine. The spa was saved by the hot tub but needs a sort out.

I stayed here last week, and was incredibly let down by this “hotel”. As soon as we got to our room, we were disappointed by the cleanliness and quality of the furniture. The room was very small, wardrobe’s paint was peeling off, the toilet didn’t flush, we had no warm/hot water for showering, it smelt damp and stale, and the previous guests rubbish hadn’t been disposed of. Our room had direct sunlight coming through the window all day, and the air conditioning was faulty for our stay in 30° heat (although somehow working in the corridors?) We also made use of the private hot tubs which were very dirty. We complained to the assistant manager as the general manager had the day off, she acknowledged that the director could hear about this instead but she would “absolutely not be contacting them”. The entire castle needs refurbishing, and special measures taken in management to assure these kind of issues are solved. They would be receiving 0 stars if possible.

It was an absolute joy to stay at this hotel. So much so a few days later, and we've already booked another stay. The staff were wonderful, the food was great & good value. The room was a high standard. The bed & pillows were extremely comfortable. The grounds blew our minds. Make a point of visiting & staying here.

First impression of the castle was very impressive, and didn't get any less so as we entered reception!!! We had a room in the original part of the castle, and whilst some reviews state conditions/decor are tired and in need of repair, I do not agree. Room was flawless. En suite was immaculate. Bed was very comfortable too. There is ongoing work at the hotel, but one needs to remember that parts of the building are over 800 years old. The spa was so good too. Only disappointment was there is no pool. The hottub (hit for me, but as my wife described it as cool tub, it highlights how personal preferences influence reviews......)was just the job after a day walking in the mountains too. Staff were very friendly, food was excellent. Breakfast draws the only criticism here, it is a buffet style set up, but the serving area is just too cramped. From a personal perspective, the breakfast was perfect, all the usual full English suspects, so I was happy, however, alternatives were a tad lacking. All in all an amazing couple of days in some fantastic countryside with the castle proving to be the perfect venue for our overnight stay. Thank you to the whole team at the hotel.

The Castle Hotel and grounds were stunning outside although it would have been nice to have more seating areas around the garden to sit. However, drink bottles left on the grass....no bins !! The interior however was very shabby. Definitely in need of a good paint. Plaster falling off the walls etc. Doors on rooms...paint all coming off...skirting boards scuffed. Laundry doors and staff areas ...doors left open for guests to see as they walk past. . A large fridge deposited in a bedroom hallway corridor. The staff were lacking in enthusiasm and personality. Food poor. When we came down to breakfast no one showed us to a table. We had to ask for food to be refilled as nothing left ...including the coffee. They took ages to bring it. When it arrived no apologies to everyone although the queue by that time was large. Meal in the restaurant was average and we had to ask for cutlery ...again took ages to come and meal getting cold. No information pack in the bedroom ...well from what we could see anyway. Rooms basic and modern certainly not what you would expect from how beautiful it looks from the outside. Would we stay in the Castle Hotel again....NO !! Would we recommend to anyone else...NO !!!

We had a wonderful stay at Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa, celebrating the wedding of our lovely friends. 'De Grey Suite' was perfect for our needs and all of the staff were very welcoming, with a special shout out to Amy and the lady in the grey suite who were both super helpful and such lovely people. Thank you and Happy New Year to you all x

OK, so read the reviews before we visited, and tbh whilst there's some relevance to the hotel being tired and needing some serious investment, honestly, we had a great time. The staff were all super attentive, with nothing being too much trouble. The only real gripe I have is the cost of the food. Guys, £7 plus for the mixed bread starter ? You really are letting yourselves down here. Even our waitress was embarrassed. Do yourselves a favour, sort it out. Most reasonable customers, due to its age, will accept the castle being a tad rough around the edges, but when it comes to blatant taking the mick, you're letting yourselves down.

Beautiful hotel in the old Ruthin castle. Great location, full of history, surrounded by old castle ruins, woodlands and peacocks. Very romantic, quiet, relaxing place. Staff could not be more helpful and friendly sharing history info and locations in the castle. Lovely relaxation time in the spa and jacuzzi by twilight. Highly recommended for a night or two. Lots of places to visit nearby castle too

We called in to the Tafarn bar with our puppy for a drink and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and the bar area had a great atmosphere and the drinks were good quality. The grounds are beautiful with free roaming peacocks and lovely views. A real gem of a place in the heart of beautiful Ruthin.

Absolutely an amazing place to go and have some rest! Staff are amazing (Izzy, Rory, Nathan, just to name some), food is incredible and the views from the castle are stunning!!! The hotel is well maintained, plenty of places to park (there’s an overflow park) There are plenty of activities to do nearby if you want to walk, also plenty of places to visit. I haven’t used the spa though. I extended my stay because is such a lovely place! Will definitely be back!

Great hotel within a short walk of Ruthin Town Centre. Lovely location with peacocks, rabbits and squirrels running around the grounds. The building is very old but room was lovely and spacious. Breakfast was good although a little slow at replenishing hot food. Staff were all pleasant and helpful. We didnt use the spa or gym. I would certainly recommend and we will return when next in the area.

Great hotel Lots of authentic character and history Food was great, had a full three courses of really well presented and tasty food. The staff make it, all so helpful and friendly. Spa experience was a great way to start our day. Peacocks everywhere, which you can feed and add to the experience.

Beautiful place but our room was in the unloved wing, had to go to reception several times as things not working the corridor walking to it looks old and dated as does the room. Spa treatments were really good, staff lovely but not happy that we couldn't change the times, was given a 9am slot for hot tub and spa not idea right after breakfast. Not good at answering the phone either tried several times before arriving and just got cut off

The entrance on arrival at this hotel is beautiful as the grounds are lovely as very well kept. Peacocks are present at the hotel and walk around the place. The town is very quaint with lots of small shops which makes it a nice walk round and the centre with the clock is nice. My room however wasn't up to standard, the carpet was dirty, the bathroom wasn't much better with orange mold all round the bath along with a moldy shower curtain & the radiator hanging off the wall, maybe I was just unlucky but not what you should expect. The meal in the evening was ok, not a huge choice on the menu but enough to choose a meal. Breakfast was good but the food ran out very quickly so you had to wait till it was replenished as only 2 staff members. If ordering an afternoon tea for two then please don't bother, you only get 3 finger sandwiches, about 1 & a half rounds of bread each, 1 scone each which was dry & tasteless & a few small cakes, I was very disappointed. It is in a lovely part of Wales & inside the hotel it has been decorated well to match a castle. There is also outdoor seating with picnic tables outside the restaurant which is nice.

31st August 2023 Our son's wedding last weekend was wonderful. The castle and grounds are lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, especially Jane on reception and Peter the hotel's electrician and sound man. The food was fantastic and the service great. Even the sun came out for the garden photographs! Well done Ruthin Castle!!

Great staff, friendly and helpful. Big, sprawling hotel with long corridors, lots of history and offering a unique king of the castle experience with spacious gardens, including plenty of both ruins and well-behaved peacocks, which didn't make any noise 😀 Good room (122) with views over fields and newly installed bathroom. King and Queen for a night or two 😊

My family and I stopped here for 3 nights and we had a wonderful stay. The castle looks incredible from the outside and is set within a contained woodland area. You also have the backdrop of the Welsh hills to enjoy in all directions. There are peacocks roaming the grounds that are also beautiful. Our room didn't give the best first impression, while the wallpaper is ornate it is also marked as are the door frames and window frames. The ceilng also looked like it was about to fall in, which was a worry. However, everything worked fine, our beds were very comfy and the view from our window was amazing. Note to people with young children, windows do open fully, so be cautious. Breakfast was a little chaotic and one morning we had to wait 20min as food ran out. I will say all the staff were working incredibly hard and are a credit to the hotel. Our evening meal was very nice with a few little issues. I ordered Steak but wasn't given a steak knife. My sauce didn't come and I had to ask for it again. My chips were also undercooked. However, my wife and son really enjoyed their food. Again, the waiting on staff were very friendly and helpful. It is worth bearing in mind these old buildings are incredibly hard to maintain, especially at the moment with the energy costs going up. Many of the small issues could be fixed with a little bit of thought and money. Overall we loved our stay here, the town of Ruthin is full of sights. The jail museum is very interesting and we also highly recommend Small Plates restaurant. Also don't miss the druid circle right next to the castle.

My partner booked us both a massage and the hot tubs in the woods for my birthday. Absolutely brilliant service from start too finish. Back massage was brilliant...then the sauna room was great, and to finish it off the hot tubs were brilliant. Brilliant place and brilliant service.

Can't fault it. We stayed in room 116. Were there for Ghost hunt with most Haunted. We can't wait to return 👻. We are Vegans and were very well catered for. Your Vegan breakfast sausage didn't look great... But when we tasted it, it was bloody delicious 😂. Thank you Ruthin. And our room had some spooky goings on too 😍😍😍

Staff very accommodating and friendly for our little family. The food was delicious, I would highly recommend. Wish we had more time to explore the grounds as they looked lovely.

Staff were lovely, our room was ok but view was overlooking the roof with generators on which was disappointing , glass shower panel fell off rails as I opened to get in. Was going to book the spa but on looking round it was very untidy , girl just sat at desk, no conversation . Breakfast the next day was shocking, self service, no croissants, no cereals , had to wait for sausage then all the bacon had gone, wait for bacon all eggs had gone, do your own toast with cheap thin white bread , when the eggs came out she slid one off with her fingers , saw us watching n slid the rest off the plate . the castle needs maintenance as there's bits of plaster coming off in places. Cupboard where the tea making is kept was dusty, cobwebs round bathroom window and dead insects. It's old I get but just bit of maintenance would work wonders to the place. Peacocks walking round, bar was nice we were able to sit out as weather was good. Bed was very comfortable. I'd stay again but not have breakfast, I'd rather go to cafe in the town .

An amazing experience! Staying in an 800 year old castle site was so special. Made more special by the great team there. Food was exceptional and the rooms made us feel like a king and queen! Some of the rooms are awaiting a bit of love, but with such a huge area and listed building to keep on top of, any defects are shown in the price. If you have to have a perfect room, pay for the more expensive rooms. We were on a working trip so had to take the budget room, but it was still incredible to stay in such an amazing building. Just be aware there will be noticeable wear and tare that needs attending to, this is reflected in the price and is in the system to be looked at asap, as I asked the brilliant general manager during our stay. Regardless of a few flakey painted areas and a very outdated bathroom, everything was clean, tidy and thought about well. We wish all the team the best moving into the future and will definitely be back for a holiday at some point in the future!

Overpriced spa experience. Changing rooms tiny and unable to accommodate multiple people arriving at the same time. 1 shower broken, all the drains stank. Steam room and sauna were the only spa facilities worth using. The floor outside of them was deathly slippy we watched a man fall. ‘Quiet room’ consists of garden furniture with blankets on in a mouldy room. Hot tub was cold, jets were coming out and floating to the top covered in mould. The dial on the tub was rusty and didn’t work, a staff member came to try and fix it then never returned. Our disabled friend was told she had to walk up 2 sets of stairs to avoid a wedding party if we wanted our afternoon tea. Having to get dressed entirely to walk over to the restaurant for afternoon tea in the middle of your ‘spa experience’ makes no sense. Afternoon tea itself was disappointing. Go to kinspa in kinmel bay for half the price and a better experience. Awful customer service - complained and followed up 5 times only to be ignored.

We booked their Ruthin Recharge offer for last Friday and we liked it so much that we stayed an extra night. The food was lovely and the staff were all really friendly and welcoming. The castle itself is a real piece of history dating back over 800 years, and is a truly impressive place, really well kept grounds and a lovely Spa too. Thank you to everybody for giving us such an enjoyable break.

This place is absolutely beautiful and perfect for a weekend getaway, especially for friends or couples. We visited the spa when we were here and it was super relaxing and well worth the money. The rooms are very plain and standard but spotlessly clean and had everything you needed. The food was outstanding, and it would be worth visiting just for this alone. The staff could not do enough for us when we visited, and were so friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back here for a little longer next time.

A stunning location and very interesting historic site. Hotel is a bit rustic and some areas could be updated, but for us that didn't take away from the charm. Our room was lovely. Would definitely return and spend longer exploring the area.

We went to Ruthin castle for lunch as a family and although we didn’t make a booking we were provided with a table quickly even though they were busy. However our most of our food was cold when we received it and some of our food was not what we ordered either. The waitress was very accommodating and did her best to resolve the issues we had. Over all we feel that we won’t be returning for a meal at Ruthin castle again based upon our experience.

We were given a gift voucher for my birthday for afternoon tea. The hotel is impressive with well decorated rooms. It really felt like walking through a stately home to get to the dining area. We were a bit disappointed with the afternoon tea with three very small and basic finger sandwiches. The scones and cake were very fresh and tasty. We had a small pot of tea each which wasn't enough to wash down the food. No-one asked if we were enjoying our food and no offers of hot water to top-up our small teapots. We left feeling hungry (for savoury food) and thirsty. It was such a lovely building we would return again, but not for afternoon tea.

The hotel has no lift, so if you have mobility issues, swerve this one. Rooms were clean and tidy, but I'm not very keen on bathrooms in the bedrooms. So if you do go, ask for a bathroom in a separate room and, in my case, more importantly, a bathroom without mirrors all around the bath. Yuk ;-) Breakfast needs a bit more organization as they kept running out of coffee, sausage bacon, etc, as the kitchen is away from the breakfast room.

Visited the spa last night with a friend for her birthday. What a beautiful location , we arrived early & enjoyed a stroll around the castle grounds . The Spa was amazing, loved the decor & the staff couldn't have been nicer , they made us feel so welcome. We enjoyed the sauna & steam room then we had booked in for the hot mud room. It was so much fun applying the mud & the steam was so relaxing then we finished off with a hour in the woodland hot tub with a glass of fizz. The moon was out & the fairy lights looked magical. Feel like a new woman today. Had to leave a review as we will definitely be back!

Undergoing refurbishment. Windows and general paintwork in need of repair, although we thought it added to the ambiance. Lovely evening meals. Enjoyed the spa although one of our treatments was reduced due to lack of staff (for which we have yet to receive a refund). Nice gardens with resident peacocks. Within easy walking distance of Ruthin town centre.

This place is a great addition to the Welsh town of Ruthin, steeped in history. This place do weddings, have spa days etc. Food is to a good standard. On my particular visit, I had a spa, hydro pool, sauna and steam room. All treatment s were great. Only downside, the ladies changing area, was small and a little dated. However, it's the surroundings and the staff that make a place. Definitely worth a visit if your passing through, visiting the area, or if your local. Peacocks are a lovely addition which roam freely within the grounds.

We had a fantastic time! We booked two nights' stay [spa break] for two, which included a variety of treatments, dinner and breakfast. It was clear that Ruthin Castle had worked very hard to remain open following Covid and inconsistent guest numbers, and though there were a couple of things here and there that could be improved, the access to warm, friendly, intelligent staff made for a wonderful, relaxed environment. The food was fantastic, both at the formal dining hall, and the pub-style banquet hall.

Lovely grounds to the castle that are worth exploring. There seems to be work going on to improve some areas of the castle grounds too so would love to visit again and go back. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely, it was a shame the bar was shut due to staffing issues but it gives a reason to return....which I definitely would. There was another bar to go to and a nice seating area outside to enjoy the scenery. There were rentable hot tubs too which were worth every penny that you book through the spa.

This hotel never gets back to you after leaving voicemail or emails. You're better off driving there! Overall grounds are well kept. Rooms still need a lick of paint especially for the prices you pay. Hotel staff friendly but need more staff to provide better service. The spa is the high light really. But that was shut due to covid at the time I went.

Just had the most amazing stay at Ruthin. The grounds are beautiful and full of history (going back to the 1200s!). We had an amazing couple's massage and our own hot tub with a glass of G&T! The food was lovely and the cheesecake was even better than I have had in New York! I especially want to thank Lindsay and the girls in the spa and Paul and the waiting and kitchen staff. Even though they were short-staffed (pingdemic) and working extra hard we would never have known as everything was seamless and so perfect. Can't wait to come back :)

Massive lack of people wearing masks in public areas for my liking. It's like covid doesn't exists. Funny smell throughout the whole place. Dinner menu same every night. On the up side the building was amazing huge bed and room. We had a great time here. Cool pub in the castle! All in all go

Had a short break here. Very well looked after building. Room a very good size. Had an evening meal included in the deal. I had pork, cooked perfectly, would highly recommend this meal. The peacocks were very tame, grounds excellent. Had a short walk into Ruthin, very pretty little village, was very quiet on our visit. On the whole, excellent few days.

Lovely big rooms & bed, soft white towels & bedding. Comfy pillows & bed, plus mark. Breakfast basic but nice. The grounds are fantastic with peacocks, rabbits, set in great location for sight seeing. Rooms could do with fresh carpet & paint. But that would then put price up. I would come back again.

Just returned from a weekend stay in the castle and it was lovely. The place is 800 years old and full of character, really nice and set in some lovely grounds with beautiful views and peacocks wandering around. Lockdown very nearly was the end of things for them and as such there are fewer staff than normal but despite the staff being extremely busy they were kind and helpful throughout our stay. The restaurant was excellent and the food first rate. We were really pleased and would return.

My brother had been given some vouchers for Afternoon tea at Ruthin Castle as a gift. As a result he invited our Dad and me to accompany him and his partner. It was the first time we had ever been to the Castle, which is situated within walking distance of the main Town square. It has ample car parking facilities. Set in lovely grounds inhabited by Peacocks it is an imposing building. Staff on reception were polite and friendly and directed us to where we were going to have our Tea. Staff serving us were polite and attentive. Staff did ask if any of us had food allergens before providing any food. The sandwiches and cakes were more than enough for a party of four. There was a good choice of sandwiches and all were freshly made. The cakes were incredibly rich and the scones were clearly still cooling down from being baked but very tasty. Coffee and tea were provided and top ups weren't an issue. All in all a pleasant experience and well recommended.

It might not be for everyone, but it's my liking—a fantastic place, with a beautiful garden. Rooms are fine. Big, clean. If you fancy walking/hike...lots around. Staff was incredibly nice. I only had lunch at the hotel; it was lovely. There are a couple of excellent pubs in the town if you fancy a change of scenery 😉

The castle looks stunning and had a lovely stay. The only downside was the initial deluxe double room had issues within the bathroom but the front desk quickly resolved and offered us a choice of different rooms. The mattress in the final room does need replacing as felt the slates. The spa was good with Scott at the front deck very friendly and helpful and the outdoor hot tubs were situated in lovely surroundings. However, I would stay clear of the mud bath as it's simply a sauna room with a small bowl of chocolate mud that you put on yourself which seemed pointless.

History and Heritage staying at the Castle. Bottle of Prosecco on arrival, bed breakfast evening 2 course meal and free entry to jail or heritage house £139 for 2 people! Absolutely fantastic place The rooms are large clean and authentic. The evening meal was delicious and also the breakfast buffet. The grounds and outside sitting areas are inviting. Highly recommend

Ruthin Castle is a beautiful place in a lovely setting. The staff where very pleasant and helpful, We ate there as there where 19 of us. A good meal to a good standard was the general consensus. Also a pleasant surprise that the drinks where not extortionate like you find in other establishments. The rooms where unfortunately scruffy and dated. But with that they where clean to decent standard. Overall a pleasant experience and nothing a deep clean and a lick of paint wouldn’t fix. Thanks to the staff for looking after us.😃

Enjoyed a delightful spa day with my partner last month. The decor is unique and provides a relaxing atmosphere. The staff are very attentive and the package I chose was great value for money. You can enjoy drinks in the Woodland Hot Tubs before a couples massage in a joint room. There is also a hammam mud experience in a private area which was a great laugh and left our skin silky smooth. Finally afternoon tea is served within the Hotel restaurant, where you can also take in the sights of the castle grounds 🤗

This was a spa gift with a afternoon tea. The soap was excellent, friendly atmosphere with lovely staff. But I dud not rate the restaurant or the staff. We had to wait a while before the staff noted we wanted to enter. Whilst the food was great, I was only offered one small cup of coffee, to go with the finger sandwiches, scone and cakes. I feel that the Waitress should have come and asked if we were OK, and asked if we wanted anything else. Where I would have requested another drink, as I feel the afternoon tea could have done with another drink. I felt very ill at ease in the restaurant. I would return again for the spa, but avoid the restaurant.

We went here for Sunday lunch. Very tasty. The location is absolutely stunningly beautiful and rich in history. It's great how this place has been so well preserved and much of the building left open to the public to explore. I've only visited once but I will definitely be going back. I wish this business every success. Probably the most pleasant Sunday afternoon I've had in years. Thanks for the experience and keep up the good work!

What an amazing place. We'd highly recommend a visit. We loved it so much that a few days after staying here, we booked it again and are going back in a few weeks. The staff were extremely helpful and professional, but above all, they were friendly. The grounds are staggering & truly historic. Not many hotels can boast a medieval castle in the grounds. Peacocks everywhere & the views are breathtaking. If you've never been to the beautiful historic Ruthin town, you are missing out. Book it now!

I found a spa getaway deal online and thought I’d give it a go. It was amazing!! The spa with the mud rasul was amazing and the outdoor hot tub was fantastic. It was a great experience and so relaxing. We stayed the night also and the room was clean, tidy and had beautiful views of the grounds. The food was excellent and they catered for vegans 🙌🏻 the staff were so friendly and smiley. It made the whole stay really lovely. We will be coming back for sure! Thank you for an amazing time x

Had a brilliant and memorable time staying at the castle for a weekend. Despite the grandeur of the castle, the feel is very unpretentious. We were advised by the staff to explore, which was made better by the fact you don't feel like you're being watched at all times by staff. It was incredible being able to wander around somewhere with such depth of history. The bar man gave us a leaflet to learn more about the castle and really made us appreciate how special it was that we were staying there. Having dinner on site and the spa booked made for a relaxing time, and gave just enough time to explore the surrounding village which has some unique features to discover. Perhaps the best hotel experience we've ever had.

Very impressive clean rooms, amazing . U didn't really rate breakfast coffee cold and out of flask. Would of liked to have had more time there but would recommend

Had Sunday lunch. January 22nd. Nobody on the desk to seat us when we arrived, stood around waiting for a few min until we could find someone, not what we would expect. Restaurant was freezing, 6c outside and not much better inside, two small oil filled radiators to try and warm it and one dehumidifier, far insufficient to heat the space to a comfortable dining temperature. Come away without feeling in my feet, fingers and thoroughly chilled. Would be nice to see a big open fire to welcome people in the winter 🤔 Food was OK but wasn't piping hot when it arrived either, and portions were a little disappointing. In all today I'd say 5/10 and not really an encouragement to return.

Lovely building and setting, due to pandemic we were unable to have the massages booked and staff overall were light on the ground but despite this, the rooms were lovely, with huge comfortable beds. Our dinner in the restaurant was a bit disappointing due to only one vegetarian option (no vegan) which two of our party were not keen on, but the breakfast was lovely and just meant we had to go out and about to find dinners. Peacocks were beautiful obviously.

The hotel owners and senior managers should be extremely proud of the very high level of customer service provided by the staff of the Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa. Friendly, helpful, and nothing was too much trouble; a true credit to the establishment. The food in the Tavern was nice, the spa experience luxuriant, and the grounds a joy to explore. Sure there were a few bits that needed a bit of TLC but if your home is >700 years old then I'm sure you'll appreciate their challenges. Would highly recommend and will stay again.

We came to look around Ruthin Castle for the day as I find the history of castles fascinating. Unfortunately we came on a day that the tours were not being given. Still I will definitely return. We had a drink from the hotel bar. The staff were just lovely, friendly and very courteous. Thank you. The grounds are beautifully kept with both naturally growing flowering weeds and plants. It was a really lovely day out and would definitely recommend it.

😐 If I'd never been here before I would have given it 1 or 2 stars. Having waited for fresh fried fish and chips (10 minutes no problem), the fish had hardly any batter on it and what it did have was dark brown/ over cooked. The chips were definitely not freshly cooked, all a bit soft and if anything...

👍 Always good fish but chips occasionally need a bit longer. Double frying the chips would definitely be an improvement. Southern fried chicken is tasty and not greasy. Gravy, curry sauce peas etc always good.

👍👍 Really nice cafe in the craft centre in Ruthin. Price was decent, just over £40 for the four of us with loads of food and drinks. It's dog friendly which is nice. The coffee and hot chocolate is Costa which I like and the food all feels like it's good stuff, not cheap and cheerful - I would expect...

😠 Food was delivered late, and even after having them read back your order to you we were still missing a dish. Chicken noodle soup was made with thick spaghetti type noodles, was really pongy and thick like gelatin. The only decent dish was the chow mein. £70 for a family of 4! (2 adults/2 children)....
