Yesterday, there were just 3 of us wanting to have some drinks and something to eat at lunchtime, so we went to the bar and the guy started putting in our order, but then a massive group of people (I assume for a funeral) came in and he said something like 'Oh sorry, I have to serve this group first'. Even though he had already started taking our order. We felt that was really rude. He could have quickly served us before seeing to them. We left as it would've been ages before he got through the big group of people. As someone who has a Hospitality Management degree and has worked in hotels, this was not ok.

Hotel & bar staff were helpful and friendly, we booked the hotel rooms a few months in advance, and there were no special requests, but we advised that we would be bringing our young dog so the price advised was not the price on the invoice, there is small print we did read before booking advising there was is extra charge for a dog staying in the room but this is not fully quoted until you are there checking in. But I think anyone who regularly travels with a dog will expect a small fee for a dog staying in a hotel. The breakfast was good with a good choice of cooked items, cereals, fruits, and yoghurts. All help yourself. Good selection of drink and snacks at the bar in the evenings with a jam session of local musicians one evening in the week. (bar open in the afternoons, but we were out and about) We stayed out of season, so the kitchen wasn't open midweek for lunch and dinners. But the hotel is located close to several bistro, cafes, restaurants, and other bars that serve food. The picture attached was the view from our room on the 1st floor. The room was spacious, and the beding was clean. Some cobwebs were found around the windows, but the rest of the room and bathroom were spotless. The bathroom had a full bath and a good shower.

Great place and quiet overlooking the River Dee as it is off of the main High Street so there is little traffic noise.. Stayed here on our walk of Offa's Dyke path. Great patio/bar across the street from the hotel overlooking the river.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE HOTEL IN CHIRK, NOT LLANGOLLEN: Have to say first and foremost the low score was for the room (studio, that sleeps up to 8) there was 6 of us and there was no partition between the sleeping area and lounge so having 2 children with us meant when they went to bed so did we, also we were 2 family's so had to remain dressed as there was no privacy, one room full of beds and lounge area that was it. Also dated and needs decorating. Extra bedding is dumped on the floor in a cupboard but adequate tea/drinks area. Food for dinner was excellent and very tasty, I can recommend the house chicken curry. Now breakfast was £9.95 each including the children ( 2 & 10) took 30 minutes to arrive after ordering, black pudding wasn't fully cooked, rest of the breakfast wasn't particularly hot and bacon well done the rind was black deffo not worth the money. The hotel had charm and was a mix of old with new, staff very friendly although 1 girl covered a busy breakfast room so probably explains the long wait for food. Sadly, what was to be the end of a perfect family day didn't end too well, and we won't be back.

Been to this hotel twice in a few months and going back again in a few weeks, it's a little dated but spotlessly clean. Rooms very good value with a continental AND cooked buffet style breakfast included.

Only called in for directions but staff very helpful and friendly. Looks like a lovely place to stay. Only saw surrounding area briefly but looks a great place to spend in the summer especially

Lovely location and a very friendly Welsh welcome to this hotel on the River. There is a garden deck over looking the river that is a beautiful sun trap with the river in the valley below. Very central and a perfect place to stay if you are visiting Llangollen. So nice to visit a "traditional" hotel where there are seats and areas to sit rather than just the bar/restaurant.

Beautiful comfortable rooms that were spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds and lovely river views from the front rooms. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was good with breakfast in particular being excellent. There is a stunning outdoor terrace opposite the hotel with its own bar. We only stayed one night but will definitely return. It was also great value.

Fantastic stay at the hand hotel. Lovely staff and very comfortable rooms. Food was great and the location was perfect for us to get around Llangollen and enjoy our weeked even more. Highly recommend staying there.

A visit to Llangollen on a truly stunning day in May. We sat and ate in the totally refurbished gardens… now all decked out with a bar/eatery. Clearly, big investments. Very pleasant, good service, good food and a ‘good chat’ with the owner. PS I was a porter at the Hand Hotel when I was at school.

Just popped in for a late night tipple but just like the Corn Mill on the other side of town this place has the loveliest views over the River Dee. Drinks are very well priced (£9 for a pint and large wine) and service is friendly even if you are a non-resident!

We have stayed twice now, the rooms are large and well equipped with toiletries, tea, coffee and the breakfasts are brilliant, lots of choice. But for us it's the staff they are so hard working and are so helpful we will definitely be booking again for next year

The stairs! Hot day in mc leathers and stairs do not mix. Real nice hotel, and so quiet.

This is a lovely hotel and right on the River Dee. The rooms are dated but lovely and clean all the same. Lovely friendly staff. A big car park and reasonably priced per night. Breakfast is amazing and has everything available. Cereal, full English, toast and Jam. Everything. And all of top quality. A lovely place to stay when ever in Llangollen.

Overall a lovely place to stay.

Stayed here several years ago.On Holiday from Bradford.Quaint atmosphere.Great Olde English feel to it. Supposedly haunted, but probably rubbish. Food was good and service adequate. Not a bad fee for a nights stay.

Terrible meal in a very dated restaurant area of the hotel. No atmosphere. Service was awkward as the staff struggled to understand what we were asking. The food was very poor. The vegetables were all brown looked like they were well past their best. Disappointing

We arrived on Friday and greeted by a very friendly receptionist, she signed us in. We were given a car park pass . Porterage was very good and our case reached the room the same time as we did. The room and bathroom were very clean,, and we had a good sized wardrobe. Slept OK. Next day went down for breakfast which was self serve but they had everything we wanted. There was no porridge but I only enquired about it and the chef made me some. Excellent seated garden overlooking the River Dee. Highly recommended. Will return very soon. Thank you at the Hand Hotel.

What a lovely Hotel to stay in with fantastic river views and countryside. The staff were great and you would not expect anything else in such a Hotel. The price for the room for the night was exceptional and there are plenty of amenities surrounding the Hotel. A must to stay in you will not be disappointed.

Anne the receptionist (plus!) made our stay - so friendly and helpful. The hotel doesn't pretend to be the swankiest in town but it's clean and serves excellent food. Good location too. Really enjoyed our brief stay in Llangollen.

The Hand Hotel wears it's age with pride, it is most definately of bygone times. Because of that it brings certain limitations, lack of power points for the 21st century, creaky, uneven but gorgeous wooden floors, quirky room sizes, no lifts (disabled take note) but nonetheless I love it. Excellent staff, terrific breakfast, brilliant Riverside location with the added bonus of a gorgeous, Riverside garden area. The first but not the last visit 👍

Room was very dated, with a damp patch in the ceiling. Breakfast OK, the bar did have 1 local ale but ran out. Staff, particularly the bar and breakfast staff were great. Friendly and efficient.

Just returned after spending a very special weekend here with our Presidents away weekend with Rotary. Staff were excellent nothing too much trouble . There were 24 of us and all were extremely impressed and satisfied with rooms, meals and location. Our contact was Denise who was efficient and pleasant throughout and extremely well informed. Thoroughly recommend this hotel. In a fantastic location.

A characterful hotel with decent enough facilities and breakfast. Plenty of parking, lots of rooms and right in the centre of Llangollen. Only real disappointments were the language from a few residents in the hotel bar, and the bar staff who lacked hospitableness. I'd recommend it for a short fishing holiday with mates.

Had a lovely couple of nights here. Hotel loverly, clean and welcoming. Food good too, reasonably price. Would definitely stay again. Only downside was no dressing table area and lack of plug sockets in room

In a good location and really impressive when you walk in with leather Winchester chairs. The reception staff are friendly and polite. The rooms and the rest of the hotel is very dated and not in a good way. To get into the room you need a key but we struggled only to be told the door knobs don't turn just push, so from a security point it may confused people and I'm sure many people have been locked out of their rooms. The beds are small and the mattresses need changing. Not enough sockets to charge in the room. The rooms are really small but there is a massive bathroom, weird. The TV well wasn't even worth switching on it was so small. The dirty brown carpets need deep cleaning or changing. Breakfast was a buffet style not to my liking. Cold tomato slices, undercooked bacon, burnt toast and weak coffee some little improvements would make this place great. The riverside seating and the bar area make this place a great find pity it is let down by the rooms and food.

Loved the Hand Hotel. A teeny bit tired, but spotless and has everything you could need. Brilliant value, amazing location & a fab breakfast what more could you want? There's also a lovely deck overlooking the river. We loved it

Really great central location. Room at top of building with lovely river view...but lots of stairs. Wouldn't be too good for those with mobility problems. It was comfy but a bit dated. Most staff were lovely, but the service was very slow!! We waited at reception on arrival for nearly 15 minutes before we were attended to. At breakfast we sat at the table for a full half an hour before anyone asked us what we would like. They apologised for our wait. Breakfast then came within minutes and was cold, my fried egg was raw! Hotel was overpriced for the overall standard. Don't think we would stay again.

Great hotel in the heart of Llangollen. The hotel is steeped in history dating back to the 1600's. The rooms are a mix of old meets new. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The view of Dinas Bran from our room was incredible. WiFi wasn't great if I'm honest. Staff were friendly throughout. I found the restaurant/catering staff were slight understaffed. Food was good and well priced. Hotel location is perfect.

Staff were lovely and helpful. Unfortunately the meal i had on the first night was very poor. I felt as if it was an 'anything will do' slapped on a plate. Pie was tasteless chips were reheated. The room was clean but the bed was not comfortable and the shower was not good. Very quiet hotel and the music was tasteful

Service from all staff excellent. View from bedroom was onto the River Dee and bedroom very spacious. Definitely recommend it. We were a group of 13 girls celebrating a 40 th birthday along with our 80 year old mother/ grandmother.

Great location in town just a street away from the centre. Parking. Bar. Nice breakfast. The room had a kettle for tea and coffee, a TV, en-suite shower. Bed was comfortable. Would return!

Rooms ok, a little snug but sufficient. Breakfast very good, choice and quantity in a buffet-style! Dog-friendly. Lovely sun terrace overlooking the River!

Really nice stay staff friendly and helpful breakfast really good,i love the outdoor drinks garden by the river. The room was nice with v large bathroom. Only bit of a moan is our room was above courtyard at rear and as it was really hot had the window open so we could hear people talking rather loudly at night and the staff when they were on a break and also really really early one morning before 5.30am 2 men talkingreally loudly, however I would definitely stay again just in another room.

Beautiful location and the staff they did have worked extremely hard but under pressure X We stayed Monday to Thursday before the jubilee celebrations and maybe this dies reflect the fact that staff may have been having time off . However this side did let the hotel down there were times when no staff could be found X Also on the Tuesday evening they ran out of Brandy not good for business at all xx The Rooms were comfortable but some needed an update X And they need more grab rails on the staircases On a positive note the surroundings of the hotel and the outside areas had been updated X The staff were always polite and helpful but they were working under pressure X We would visit again Purley for the dedication of the staff X Hotel was kept clean and tidy again the small group of cleaners need to be commended . .

The food was shameful. A few of us ate here and all the veg was overcooked to the point that everything tasted like water, the meat was generally very dry and tasteless, the veggie burger had a similar texture to what I imagine it would be like to eat a flip flop... and the service was mediocre. Oh and all the side salads had wilted leaves in them. The deserts weren't much better, the chocolate cake was very dry and the vegan desert was actually listed on the menu with eggs and dairy being allergens... I don't think they understand what 'vegan' is! It was also way overpriced; we payed similar to what you'd expect to pay in a really nice gastro pub, only with food quality that made school dinners look like Michelin star dishes. The interior was also very dated, and I expect the food might have been fresh in the 1960's too. There are far better places to eat in Llangollen - go elsewhere!

The staff were amazing, the food was lovely (my compliments to the chefs and kitchen staff) and the bar was more than reasonably priced with knowledgable and friendly staff. The place was always clean and the atmosphere was relaxing. It's worth noting that they allow dogs into the bar and rooms but the place never ever smelt like dogs (I don't own one so I notice these things). My only issue was the lack of plug sockets in the room to charge our phones, as in we had no sockets unless we unplugged the WiFi extender or TV (which we did in the end). All in all I would recommend this hotel to all and will certainly be returning in the future. Thank you again for a spectacular Christmas.
