The host is the sweetest person ever. The place has a beautiful view in a peaceful environment. If it wasn’t for the road behind the property (although the rooms are on the other side so we didn’t hear a single car during the night), it would feel just like being in a fairytale. The room was extremely clean and tidy, with all the comforts, and if something was missing, the host satisfied any of our requests. Breakfast was heavenly good, with GLUTEN FREE substitutes. Something that doesn’t happen very often. We are traveling with our dog, which was more than welcome to stay, another plus that made us decide to come here. Overall a 5 star experience. I feel bad we have to leave after only one night.

Terrible experience. Been twice with my father and then my partner, and both said they wouldn't bother ever coming back. I live locally, and it's common knowledge around here that once the new owners took over they shot the prices up while the quality of the food is just absolute garbage. All of the staff are strangely standoffish unless you catch them on a very good day. Prices here are legitimately insane compared to the quality. A small burger and small side of poorly made chips is £16, something you'd expect to pay in a very upmarket restaurant, but this place couldn't be further from that. I highly recommend wondering around Llangollen and giving your service to the restaurants there. You'll get much better food and probably spend less too.

Absolutely incredible food, what a find in North Wales! Have already recommended to friends who might visit. The food is fabulous, tasty, truly a great gastro pub with very high quality food and presentation. How this place doesn't have at least an AA rosette I don't know! We had Korean bbq chicken wings to nibble on which were delicious and crispy, followed by pork belly bao buns and delicious pigeon breast for starters. For mains we had the ox cheek and the Thai style sea bass. I wasn't expecting such a delicious Thai dish and wouldn't normally go for this in a pub but it was delightful. The food had so many elements and textures that brought it together in a fantastic way. For desserts we had the passion fruit popsicle and the chocolate brownie. The passionfruit dessert was a work of art and very tasty and refreshing. The brownie was very good and I opted for banana ice cream with it instead of salted caramel which was amazing, tastes like it was freshly churned on site with real banana rather than the average rubbish you might get from a carton with artificial banana taste. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the miso caramel sauce as it overpowered the brownie and tasted a bit alcoholic. Overhaul, one of the BEST gastropubs we have ever been to and well worth the trip. Will definitely return when next in the area. The icing on the cake, it has fabulous views overlooking the valley below, stunning scenery and you can eat outdoors with good weather and beautiful views!

Bearing in mind it's a 18th century building, although recently refurbished, the welcome from the staff, and locals was fabulous.... all the staff I had contact with were friendly, polite, and most of all had a sense of humour.... Which in my book counts for volumes.... my room was light and airy, with fabulous big soft pillows, and a wonderful thick heavy duvet.... I felt really "snuggled"... Breakfast was lovely too..... if you are passing I honestly would recommend a stop off here if only for a meal.... Oh, and if the 16 week old short haired collie called DEXTER is looking at this review.... just let me know if that farmer chappy doesn't treat you right.... I'll come and kidnap you anytime anyplace.... Really can't rate the atmosphere here enough.... 😘

Stumbled across this place on the way back home and I’m so glad we did. The the price of the 3 courses for the quality is amazing. The food is presented lovely and you can taste how local and homemade everything is and always a bonus when the staff and views are very nice.

We pass the Berwyn Arms when using the A5 through the mountains. This establishment is in a very picturesque location and we have often considered stopping on our journey to eat here. As a historical building and advertised as recently refurbishment, we decided to stop for lunch. The courteous staff and spectacular views raised high expectations about enjoying a pleasant meal. When enquiring about the menu, which was being viewed by other customers at the time, a suggestion was offered, which sounded appropriate for a mid journey stop. We decided to eat in the dining room and found a table overlooking the valley. Time passed and we began to note that customers with later orders had received their meals. However, as we had no time schedule, we were satisfied to wait, and when staff reassured us the food would be arriving soon, said it was not a problem, thinking that the outcomes would be good. However, after another 10 minutes or so, raised voices were heard from the nearby kitchen, which we ascertained to be kitchen staff complaining about our order. We were both dumbfounded by the comments but continued to wait. Finally, our meals arrived, each comprised of: a small overcooked piece of salmon, two small potatoes cut in half and a small selection of coursely cut cucumber and one tomato with two small pieces of lettuce. Apart from the minimal size of the portions, the presentation lacked any finesse, and resembled that of a nursing home or canteen style in appearance. For the prices charged, no aesthetics or care in meal appeal had been employed. When expressing our disappointment, we were told the situation was partially our fault as this meal was not on the menu, although it was suggested by the staff member. Having since read other reviews for this establishment, there seems to be a common theme referring to the very small, basically presented, and therefore, overpriced meals. With otherwise, so much potential here and with initially high expectations of some level of fine dining, as a customer giving feedback, maybe this establishment should consider the points raised about their standards in the kitchen, as expressed 3in this and previous reviews.

This place was fantastic. Myself and two mates, heading back home to the Midlands after an exhausting hike up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) popped into this place randomly to grab a bite to eat. I've driven past The Berwyn Arm many times but never been in. Inside it has a lovely design using slate walls in the corridor, great views out the back (we were in a front room though). Prices were reasonable as the quality of food was excellent. The place was dog- friendly too which is good to note for the future as I didn't have my four-legged friend with me this time. The real standout for me was the staff. Of particular note was our waitress. She was warm, welcoming, good sense of humour and a great at her job - even though it was her first day. If she hadn't have told us I'd have had no clue. She's a star. The rest of the staff were great too. We had several different ones popping by, checking that everything was okay with food, drinks, keeping us updated when food would arrive (as there was a large table ahead of us). Really great stuff that some other restaurants totally forget. So well done to the team at The Berwyn Arms. We'll be back.

We last had Sunday lunch at the Berwyn Arms in late May and the food was wonderful and cooked to perfection, with amazing views across the valley. The waitresses were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. We have been before as well as its sister pub, The Grouse and will definitely come again as the menu seems to improve each time. Recommend you book ahead at weekends

Excellent room; spacious and very clean with fantastic view of the countryside. Staff were friendly, but a bit clueless. After checking in, we went to the bar for pre-dinner drinks and ordered the only cocktail that was advertised. The young person behind the bar said they would have to find someone who knew how to make the cocktail and that took considerable time. I recognize the bar person may have been new, but come on, train your staff to prepare and serve drinks! Once seated, we were presented with a menu that looked like it had spent considerable time in the hands of a two year old; it was that ragged and rumpled! Prior to arriving, we checked the menu on the Berwyn Arms website and expected something close to fine dining. Nothing on the website was on the menu we were given and when we queried the bar staff, we were told the website had "our old menu". Rather than anything resembling fine dining, the menu was distinctly run of the mill café style food; fish and chips, burger and chips, etc. The vegetarian "special" on the board was a burger and nowhere else in our dining experience has a burger been "special". So, the bottom line is that dinner was very disappointing due to the false menu advertising on their website. On the upside, breakfast was good.

Lovely place with great staff. So popular in fact that 2 of the main dishes had sold out by the time we ate (7pm). So book early! Food to a good standard and for those of us from the South reasonably priced.

Didn't stay in a room. Got there to meet a friend. Staff were great, we satisfied for an hour with drinks before ordering a meal. No staff hurried us or hassled us. Good food. Very reasonable prices. Would recommend.

We stayed with friends at the Berwyn Arms overnight for our short trip to Northern Wales for hiking/scrambling. The place was clean and the owner is a very nice lady! Had a very stuffing breakfast and overall a great stay in the middle of the mountains

We visited here for an evening meal and was not disappointed. The staff are so lovely helpful and attentive. The food was amazing, well presented, tasty and plenty of it! The veg nut roast was TDF! Best ever and the gravy.... gorgeous! Puddings were really lovely too ...sure they're home made and to top it all ..... a delicious piece of home made fudge with the bill! Great value for money. Highly recommended!

Local pub for local people. Bar is small and limited seating full of locals. We sat in the side room nothing happening and no atmosphere but could hear the pub sounds from next door. Really felt like it was a seasonal busy place and if your not local no chance of a table in the main area. Be better if they knocked the rooms through to make it a bigger bar and more warm ans inviting. £6.70 for a pint and a half not bad..

Amazing views of the surrounding hills and forest. Outside tables. Staff busy but tend to all needs. Had a beef burger and fries, not the worst, not the best I've had in my life. Recommend all in all.

Took my wife there for her 60th birthday and wow it didn’t disappoint, the food was excellent and the views of the Dee Valley were simply stunning, not cheap but excellent value for the money. The whole experience was first class, the staff made us feel so welcome a little gem at the side of the A5, well worth a visit or stop off on a long trip. We will definitely be back, the ribeye steak was beautiful and cooked to perfection.

We came out for a day trip today. We are not that far from Birmingham, so it was a lovely drive in the sun. We were hungry, and we stumbled across the Berwyn Arms. It was well worth the two hour trip! All staff were lovely, the food was delicious and extremely fresh! The building is beautiful and matched with an incredible view. It also feels very welcoming. If we find ourselves coming up to Wales again, we will definitely be returning 😀

We stopped off here to have a Sunday lunch. Wow value for money, size fantastic. I had beef and my hubby had lamb. Service was very good and friendly. Didn't have room for any dessert. There is outside seating to look over a lovely view

This pub has a great view and good food. I recommend stopping here. We stopped on our way home from somewhere else on our way back to England. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very nice, probably the best rib eye I've ever had in Wales. I like to try local foods whilst abroad and they didn't disappoint.

We had a lovely meal in the bar with a fire going. The staff were really friendly and attentive and the food was lovely. Lovely food is commonplace. Lovely staff isn't. Go for the service and enjoy the food they bring!

My partner and I had a relaxing stay at the Berwyn Arms. Friendly welcome on arrival and shown to the well appointed, large and clean room. The dinner was of exceptional quality and far above our expectations. If we're ever back in the area we'll definitely be re-booking! All the best for 2023

Spent a fun-filled afternoon here with friends, food is amazing and very friendly staff. The kitchen made our day with special Birthday and Wedding anniversary sweet platters.

I called here 'on speck' on Sunday 20th June with 2 others. Despite being Father's Day we were seated and served. We chose the roast beef Sunday lunch and it was truly delicious! Slightly more expensive than other venues but with quality this high, who cares. Highly recommended.

There were 9 of us in the party last night . Clearly the you waiter and waitress were new and inexperienced. Which is fine they will get there. There was nothing on the menu for young children so clearly not want to be that kind of place. I had the burger( £15 ) which was completely ruined due the only thing I could taste was the cheese ( I'm a big cheese lover but I wanted a burger) the top bun was soggy with cheese the bottom one was soggy with burger relish of some sort. Some body needs to learn how to build a burger. I did bother with a pudding after that . But those in the party that did looked amazing and said they tasted amazing (pudding were around the £7 price) Personally I think most people wouldn't go back due the hight price's (£15 -£20) I appreciate they are trying to be more up market than a standard family restaurant but not sure if this is the location to do it.

Amazing view and although price of food is higher than average pub food you won't be disappointed very high standard of food. Chef is talented. Easy to find on A5

Lovely building and views from the garden... But the service is exceedingly slow and as a result we decided not to order food after it took 30 mins just to get our drink order brought to us.

Absolutely fantastic food. Totally unexpected. Every item on the plate had been prepared with the greatest of skill and was delicious. Home made brioche for a children's burger ! Melt in the mouth rump of beef roast dinner with perfect vegetables. We haven't had food of this standard in our area of the country for a long time. We are definitely returning asap.

Absolutely amazing food. We stopped in here after a long day travelling and it was exactly what we needed. Quiet, friendly atmosphere, stunning views and the best food. Strongly recommend the Ox Cheek. If we are ever in the area again we will make sure to stop in.

The cherry on top after a long day climbing Snowdon; happened to decide to stop here on the way back from our climb after seeing some tempting food pics on Google, and was not disappointed! Bearing in mind we hadn’t booked on a Saturday night, the lovely staff made room for us and squeezed us in; although the food took a little longer to arrive than we’d hoped, being famished climbers with a long journey still ahead of us, you could see why it took the wait. Absolutely delicious food, every bit of it, and a lovely location to boot. Very happy we stumbled upon this one! Would happily return :)

We stayed at the Berwyn Arms for one night while visiting friends nearby. We were in room 3. The room was clearly newly refurbished and was beautiful, we were not wanting for anything. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. We received a friendly welcome from the evening staff (and the locals in the bar) and the cooked breakfast the following morning was excellent. Big, free car park and a beautiful village to stroll round with the dog. No hesitation to recommend.

Great food and creative Chef and kitchen. We were only passing by and dropped in on the off chance of a table. We were fortunate to grab a table due to a cancellation. The menu had some traditional dishes along with some intriguing choices. We ended up having 3 courses as the food and the dishes were too good to pass up. The restaurant team were great and welcoming which complimented the standard of the food being served. We are not local but will certainly look to visit again if passing by. Thankyou

We have called in a number of times in the past on our journeys to and from Wales it was a favourite. It has always served good good and beer but i think it may have changed hands now. We visited in September on way home. The food has gone gastro and is tasty but the portions we had and saw delivered to other tables are now tiny. I am not a big eater but i do like to feel fed after a meal. Not for us anymore

Stopped off here after a walk. Dogs allowed in the snug. Ordered drinks and food. Service was excellent and swift. Food was great and tasty (minted lamb pudding for me and steak for the wife). Overall a nice evening and would return next time we were in the area.

Absolutely fantastic service Booked Table for 8 for Sunday lunch. Got a call from the pub early Sunday informing me that due to unexpected staff shortages they had a limited menu and some delays in service. So glad we kept the booking, absolutely fantastic afternoon. Great Beer, Great Food and brilliant service. One of our party had a Dog that had a sore leg, no taxis available, No Problem as a member of Staff drove them back to the Camp site. Many thanks to everyone at the Berwyn Arms
