Very nicely developed and maintained park with lovely manicured trails through the woods. Several places along the path were far enough removed from traffic to have a very peaceful quiet nature only noise. There is also an excellent childrenโ€™s playground and a nice nature center. Nothing super scenic throughout but definitely worth a visit.

Very neat park. Really enjoyed the trails and boardwalk. Very easy access and wide hiking trails. Most are about a half mile to mile, but you can always do multiple trails if interest in hiking more. Trails had a variety of information signs and benches along the way. Children's parks was great! It fit right into the natural theme and had an obstacle course, treehouse, zipline, teepee, and outdoor kitchen. A variety of picnic tables were available for sitting as well. There was a nature center as well, but we went later on a weekend and it was closed at the time we were there.

Such a beautiful and tranquil reserve. You owe yourself a trip here, especially in spring and summer! It is such a calming and beautiful walk through a picturesque marshland. Plenty of critters to spy and watch, birds always wizzing by, and overall just a wonderful place. Definitely have gained a new fan! P.S. if youโ€™re having some trouble spotting wildlife, thereโ€™s some sweet little friends being looked after tin the nature center you can look at!

Amazingly well maintained place with access to close up wild animal experiences. So peaceful and beautiful. We have been here many times and every time we see deer without fail. Pretty no matter what time of year

Beautiful walk. I went during autumn and saw a lot of deers walking across the paths. I cant wait to visit during flower seasons. It's great for exercise, bird/dear watching, relaxing, and to bring kids. Though I recommend kids be kept calm, since the time I visited some kids were screaming and you could hear them across the reserve.

It was very nice & family friendly. The indoor exhibit is nice. Their are bathrooms inside & one before hitting the trails; although itโ€™s not the cleanest so be aware you will see some critters ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ. The trails are not really clearly marked letting you know which color trail you are on. Regardless it was a lovely experience & weโ€™ll be back.

I absolutely love this gem. I've been going for years and there hasn't been a single time (except winter) that I've gone and haven't seen any wildlife. There's deer nearly every time all over. There are quite a few large birds that call this area home. Bring binoculars or a camera!!

A lot of wide, wooden walkways winding through the woods, with a lookout over a small lake. Saw up-close deer, Pileated Woodpecker, Green Heron, Wood Ducks, and many other birds. Thereโ€™s also a large playground for children. Iโ€™ll have to set aside more time in the future to more fully explore all the excellent trails.

Heckrodt is a breath taking adventure, every time. We love to walk through the lush forest on the sturdy, wooden footbridges. Amazing nature view areas and learning opportunities! We love to catch snakes and watch birds. We always leave nature right where we found it, such a wonderful time & experience for ALL ages.

Very beautiful trails and set up to be kid-friendly. There are map printouts and trail markers so kids can test their navigation skills. None of the tails are too long. There is a little wildlife sanctuary and playground as well.

The aliens have finally revealed themselves and been accepted by humanity and my alien friend has asked me to show them what makes earth so special. No doubt, we are making a trip here to walk the trails to see whatever critters we might find. It is so refreshing to see the areas of the planet that haven't been covered in concrete and plastic and this place is a beautiful example of natural wonders and their playground is unique and immersing. They do a fantastic job keeping the trails maintained and even when the park is busy it still feels like you have your own little piece of peace. If you and your alien friend are looking for deer, snakes, squirrels, birds, or turtles this is the place to find them all.

"Mosquito alert ๐ŸฆŸ"....its summer now..so if you there late in the evening , even the repellants wont help๐Ÿ˜ƒ. Good place for a family to have lunch / dinner. Nice place for a 1 hour walk as it has three to four 1/2 mile trails . Gives a pleasant forest like experience even though its a small area. Take a photo of the map before u start as it makes the walk easier if you look out for the 'numbered locations' to keep track of your path. You have 3 locations with binocolous helping to spot birds and animals....if you are lucky you may spot cranes / deers ๐ŸฆŒ/ many squirrels ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ walk close by

We have been here a few times but the last time we went was for my daughter's field trip. It was an extremely small group so they were able to do a little more than what students are usually able to do. They had a BLAST! Mr. Luke was great! He was so good with the kids. He prepared such a good experience with an educational presentation, activities and more! He told us about summer school programs that we definitely are interested in.

Considering I have been here multiple times I know how this place has improved and I can say that this place has thrived with their newish renovations, I saw many animals on my most recent hike and I even got a bunch of pictures close up of white tailed deer!!! I also really enjoy that they have many interactive and fun toys for kids to play with.

We attended the Creepy Crawlies Night Walk for the first time although we've been coming to this nature center for many years. The event was a lot of fun and we truly enjoyed every trail and adventure they had set up. During normal operating hours, we really like our time here as you're almost always guaranteed to see some wildlife. I know my kids will never forget the first warm spring day when all the snakes were waking up and moving for the first time and we couldn't keep count there were so many(a lot were moving in and out of the Bald eagle nest display).

We got surprised by a deer, a garter snake, lots of birds, turtles, and even a turkey with her babies. We enjoyed the butterflies, climbing on the rocks, looking through the binoculars at the wetland ponds at the beautiful scenery. Lastly we enjoyed the wonderful that was unique. What a pleasant surprise!

We spent an afternoon at the heckrodt wetland reserve and recommend taking the time to wander the trails when you're in the area. The wetlands, wooded areas and wildlife are worth the stop. There's also a playground for the kids.

There were a lot of people. Surprisingly, there weren't many out on the trails. It is peaceful walking. Saw deer ducks geese and a snake.

Other than cutting down native tubular plants that house over wintering insects around the building, which is done only for aesthetics and without thought of environmental friendliness, this place is magic in every other way. My favorite part is the prairie. I'm leaving a picture of a gorgeous friend that lots it's over wintering home from the senseless chop.

Bird song and fresh air, its a place where the sound of nature takes precedence. What a lovely and friendly place for a stroll. We're only guests there.
