It is one of my best memories with my boyfriend...When I was in this place It's like a dream. It's beautiful, balanced, feeling calm and touching the loss of sadness. I want to go back there again.

Magnificent building and interior. Unlike the Catholic Votive Church it's not free to visit, but it's certainly worth the small entry fee. Designed by the Jewish Hungarian architect "Lipot Baumhorn" it combines a blend of styles Art Nouveau/Gothic/Moorish Revival. The beautiful dome ceiling with it's stained glass panelling is the work of the artist Miksa Roth. The synagogue is the 2nd largest in Hungary after the one in Budapest and 4th largest in the World.

What a grandiose architectural achievement! It alone is well worth the visit to the small city of Szeged. The dome is amazing as well as stained glass windows. Pictures simply don’t do it justice. Look around for ornaments and pictures of flora and fauna from Biblical times. Climb on the gallery and admire the organ, and view from above. Amazing is an understatement!

The Great Synagogue of Szeged is one of the city's major attractions. It is a 1907 building designed by the Jewish Hungarian architect Lipót Baumhorn (1860–1932), whose work is considered to contain the finest examples of the unique fin de sičcle Hungarian blending of Art Nouveau and Historicist styles sometimes known as Magyar style. The building's interior, with its 48.5 meters (159 feet) tall domed ceiling, draws on multiple historical styles to produce its overall Art Nouveau/Moorish Revival style. The rib-like wall above the organ has Gothic origins, while the columns supporting the galleries are Roman. The Szeged Synagogue is the second largest in Hungary after the Dohány Street Synagogue in Budapest, and the 4th largest in the world.

The second largest synagogue in Hungary and the fourth largest synagogue in the world. An Amazing place that projects the ambitions of the Hungarian Jewish population for equality in the 1930’s.

A most beautiful synagogue. I have been here many times in the past, when the dear old cantor was showing me around and told me so many stories about its history and of the people. He had a big heart, who kept the community of the souls of the past alive very much in the presence. Shalom, chaver!

(Translated by Google) Not for the first time I admire the New Synagogue in Szeged during one year. When I first saw him, I was completely surprised. I have not seen such beautiful yet, although I was lucky to see some of them at home and abroad. It attracts eye, grace and a kind of bytes in its colors. It's good to dive in these colors. The architectural solutions are straightforwardly admirable, looking at the eclectic form of the world, the peace and harmony of diversity soothe the visitor. Art Nouveau, Romanian, Neoclassical, Baroque, Gothic elements are impressive. Perhaps I do not say new information by having Szeged the fourth largest synagogue in the world. The second largest in Hungary. For me, the most interesting and impressive sight to me has been to view this synagogue. Outstanding among those I have seen so far. And when people walk around quietly and sometimes the lights turn on, the sight is bright in the light. The altar wall and the dome's spectacle fascinated me. I suggest you to go to Szeged, not far from the bus terminal, in a quiet place for this synagogue. Worth to walk there. Itthon a második legnagyobb. Számomra eddig a legérdekesebb és legmegfogóbb látványt nyújtotta e zsinagóga megtekintése. Kiemelkedő azok közül, melyeket eddig láttam. S amikor csendben az ember körbesétál és néha a világítás bekapcsol, a fényekben megkapó a látvány. Az oltárfal és a kupola látványa elbűvölt. Javaslom aki egyszer Szegeden jár, a busz végállomástól nem messze megtalálja, egy csendes helyen e zsinagógát. Érdemes oda elsétálni.

One of the biggest and more beautiful synagogues in the world, this is one of the most important sights to see when visiting Szeged. It's about 10 minutes from the main city center. Unfortunately it was closed when we visited, but just seeing the outside is worth it.

(Translated by Google) The building itself is beautiful. Unfortunately, however, it is also extremely dilapidated. Perhaps it should not have been opened with the floor and most of the benches covered with debris, bird droppings, and the plaster crackling from the walls. It’s sad that the ticket lady didn’t feel all this was a problem either. Somehow I imagine it like that when faith backwards from religion ... 😥 (Original) Maga az épület gyönyörű. Sajnos ugyanakkor rendkívül lepusztult is. Talán kinyitni sem volna szabad úgy, hogy a padló és a padok zöme törmelékkel, madárürülékkel borított, a falakról pedig pereg a vakolat. Szomorú, hogy a jegyszedő hölgy sem érezte mindezt problémának. Valahogy ilyennek képzelem, amikor a vallás mögül kihátrál a hit... 😥

Impossible not to be impressed by this building, especially as it is surrounded by residential properties in a quiet area. It's just magnificent and extraordinarily well kept. It is gated, so you can't really get close to it, but it is so big that you wouldn't really need it anyway. The are some panels about the synagogue's history, written in Hungarian and English. The Gothic details give it a fairytale look. I didn't quite understand how to enter: even if it was supposed to be open, I found it closed.

(Translated by Google) You have to see one of the most beautiful buildings in the world, perhaps the largest in Europe, you may not be able to recreate its beauty with a photo. Now that it can be seen in its original form, sparse from the trees, in all its splendor, it is one of the wonders of the Art Nouveau style. (Original) Látni kell a világ egyik legszebb, Európa talán legnagyobb épületét, fényképpel talán nem lehet a szépségét visszaadni. Most, hogy eredeti formájában a fáktól megritkítottan, teljes pompájában látható, a szecessziós stílus egyik csodája.

The building itself is beautiful. both exterior and interior. Entrance is not free, and if this bothers you, maybe you should skip the synagogue. One thing that is totally missing in my opinion is historical context or any sort of historical background. As far as I read on wikipedia from the thriving jewish community of 8000 pre world war II, only 300 remained. As far as I saw this was not mentioned nor any other historical facts about the community. Anyway this is not a museum just an interesting building.

Beautiful synagogue. There's 5€ entrance and it was worth it. The interior is just wow - the ceiling is breathtaking.. there's a small exhibit of paintings from holocaust in the back and it's very hard to look at... Aaand it didn't stop some girls of taking selfies in there...

Amazing building inside and outside with a rich and tragic history. It's a bit out of the usual tourist routes but still in walking distance and it must be visited. Read up on the role of the Jewish community's role in the construction of the town.

(Translated by Google) This is a wonderfully beautiful place, as is the Szeged Cathedral! Although unfortunately the teeth of time are quite visible, they would need restoration here and there! (I would just note in parentheses that I am a Christian and have no interest in it.) Yet I would like to ask all well-meaning people who are receptive to beauty to help the synagogue with their donations. (Original) Ez is csodálatosan szép hely, akárcsak a szegedi Dóm!
