I had a wonderful experience visiting Heroes' Square in Budapest. It truly shows you the rich culture and art of Hungary's history. This is definitely a must visit place and it's located near the Szechenyi Thermal Bath. The area surrounding it is lovely and there is a museum as well just opposite to it.

(Translated by Google) It is said to be a square commemorating the 1000th anniversary of the founding of Hungary. At one time, this place filled with people without any time for footsteps became lonely because of corona. Still, the statues of Gabriel and Chief Magyar 7 guarding the square maintain its grandeur.

A majestic place! A must visit if you are in Budapest. I recommend a walking tour from the center along Blvd. Andrassy, which leads right to this unique square! Immediately afterwards you can explore Vajdahunyad Castle and the zoo, so the walk here is totally worth it!

Impressive square with a historical significance. There are seven sculptures on each side that depict people that played a role in Hungarian history. There are a lot of attractions in walking distance such as the, City park, House of music, Vajdahunyad Castle, Museum of Fine Arts and more.

Romanesque looking statues and columns. Huge and stunning. Totally worth a visit and pictures. There added two different museums that are on both sides of the square and the city park is a super short walk from there. Easy to use a city bus to get out to that area, took us about 40 minutes on the bus. It is away from the main downtown areas.

No tickets needed, free access to the square. Easy access from the Hop on Hop off bus, it stops right by the square. Tip: public bathrooms are available if you are in need 😊. We went through the week, the end of September 2023. There were not too many tourists. Beautiful spot, great sculptures. A must see when in Budapest.

Large square with statues of the Árpád clan in the center on horses. Tas, Huba, Flöd, Árpád, Kond, Ond and Tétény. Kings and leaders of Hungary in the back wrapped around the back section of the square starting with King Istvan on the far left. True Hungarian brave men and warriors. Days of long gone past...

The hero square is considered one of Budapest famous attractions, deserves to be visited and to take some memorable photos. However, in the national holidays the place become so crowded. Also, there are two different museums beside the square. It can be accessed easily by metro line m1 or bus 20E. It can be also a part of a tourist tours because it is neer the museums and Budapest zoo of wonderful animals.

An absolute must if you are visiting budapest. Huge. Monumental. Unforgettable. Take a couple of minutes and walk around, give yourself couple of minutes to thoroughly explore the statues, because they are worth of it. Also, an amazing park is right next to it, couple of caffes, restaurants and pubs. Really something to see for everyone!

HEROES' SQUARE The square is located at the far end of Andrassy Avenue, adjacent to City Park, and it stands as one of the prominent squares in Budapest. It's renowned for its iconic Millennium Monument adorned with statues depicting Hungarian national leaders, as well as the Memorial Stone of Heroes, which is often mistakenly referred to as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. On the left and right sides of the square are the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Art. Be cautious, as in Budapest, there are three additional squares named Heroes' Square.

noted for its iconic statue complex featuring the Seven chieftains of the Magyars and other important Hungarian national leaders, as well as the Memorial Stone of Heroes, often erroneously referred as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The square has played an important part in contemporary Hungarian history and has been a host to many political events, such as the reburial of Imre Nagy in 1989. The sculptures were made by sculptor Zala György from Lendava. At the front of the monument is a large stone cenotaph surrounded by an ornamental iron chain. The cenotaph is dedicated "To the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of our people and our national independence." While some guide books refer to this as a "tomb" it is not a burial place.

If you only go to one square in Budapest, make it heroes square. Full of heroes, old and new (mainly old) really is quite an impressive monument, and quiet (although traffic skirts it's edges, the square it's self was deserted) right next to the art gallery too so you can hit two in one.

I visited this place once. It is in the middle of Budapest and it seems a must go spot for tourist. You can park your vehicle nearby the square in the designated spots of course. This square has a historical value where there built, in stone, all the Chieftains that once were soo powerful to be remembered for times to come. If I may suggest, it is very useful if there is somekind of "Information Center" soo that tourist can understand more about the history of that place.

(Translated by Google) The largest square in Budapest was built in honor of the Millennium. Now it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List along with Andrássy Avenue, which branches off from it. It got its name in 1932. The square contains sculptures of all prominent figures of the country, starting from the first Hungarian king - St. Stephen - and the colonnade ends with Lajos Kossuth, the country's president who ruled during the revolution of 1848-1849. In the center, around the column with the Archangel Gabriel at the top, horsemen lined up - the statues of the 7 leaders who led the Hungarians to these lands. The National Gallery and the Mucharnok Exhibition Hall are located nearby. (Translated by Google) Heroes' Square (Hösök tere), also called the Millennium Square or Millennium Square, is a large square next to one of the yellow metro stations in Budapest. Established in the nineteenth century to celebrate the millennium of Hungarian statehood. In the center stands a 36-meter column, crowned with a statue of the archangel Gabriel. The column is surrounded by statues of horsemen, which depict the leader of the Magyar tribes, Prince Árpád, and his six chiefs. Next to it is a massive semi-circular colonnade, and between the columns are statues of Hungarian leaders. At the top of the colonnade are statues of Work and Prosperity as well as Knowledge and Glory, as well as images of the god of War and the goddess of Peace.

The Heroes' Square is one of the most important landmarks in the Pest side of Budapest. Flanked by two national museums, it features the statues of the heroes that marked the complex history of Hungary since the arrival of the seven Magyar tribe leaders and the proclamation of Hungary as a Christian by King St. Stephen in the year 1,000. The colossal size of the statues is one of the most amazing aspects, as well as the nearby park with ample green areas and food kiosks

  • 2/5 Conner C. 2 years ago on Google
This square is fine! It's good for a picture but that's about it. There is not any information on who the hero's are so it feels like it's just a statue park. I wouldn't say it's worth visiting if it's out of the way, but if you're passing through this area, then it's an okay stop to make.

On our morning walk to the Szechenyi thermal baths we discovered a wonderful tourist destination. This world Unesco site features numerous monuments of historical National leaders, the stone of heroes, and the seven chieftains of the Magyars. I believe there might be a few Hasburgs in there as well. The goliath sized statues are menacing, confident and full of emotion. The horses even look ready for battle. The detail of the weapons and clothing is exceptional. It was though they were taken off the battle field and cemented in time. The area has lots to offer so enjoy the park, check out the castle, skate on the ice rink, listen to the local buskers singing Hungarian folk music, appreciate the fine art museums or grab some food and a local beer and chill in the park by the pond.

Budapest is filled with so much history and I strongly recommend taking time to visit some of its monuments. While staying at the Mystery Hotel, I learned Heroes' Square was approx 15-20 minute away by foot. Although it was a foggy morning, it was worth the visit. I regret not going in the evening to take some photography. But an early morning visit provided some quiet time to enjoy the sites. Since the visit can be done in a few minutes, take advantage of the Museum of Fine Arts next door.

  • 5/5 Nikos G. 9 months ago on Google
The monument was built in 1896 to commemorate the millennial anniversary of the arrival of the people of Hungary to the Carpathian Basin. By design, it consists of two semi-circles, which have the symbols for War and Peace, Knowledge and Glory, and Wealth and Labor affixed. The place is decorated with the statues of famous kings, governors, and celebrated characters from Hungarian history, as well as little reliefs depicting the most pinnacle moment of their lives. The centerpiece of the memorial is the 36-meter high statue of the Archangel Gabriel holding a crown in his right hand and the double cross of Christianity in the other. The base of the column is surrounded by seven equestrian statues of ferocious-looking warriors, which depict the Magyar chieftains of the Hungarian tribes, the most notable being Árpád, whose descendants started the Hungarian royal line.

Very impressive square representing the Hun tribes that settled here and being finished by notorious personas from Hungarian history. What's even better is the park behind it, featuring a terme, hot air balloon, a hot lake and a castle!

A magnificent public space. Very noble presentation of Hungarian History. See it throughout the day as the changing light works miracles here

I guess everyone knows this, but don't miss this place if you are coming to Budapest! This square is magnificent and it's best to visit it with a tourist guide or to prepare yourself with a bit of Hungarian history reading so you can catch the whole concept. The nearby castle, park and the ice rink/frozen lake where you can do ice skating (during the winter ofc) makes this place even more interesting.

Amazing place to see, make sure you read the history beforehand so it’ll be a better experience. There are some nice cafes nearby
