Absolutely wonderful! Mysterious ruins pub offering multiple bars inside. It’s huge..you could dance drink or chill. The place offers different atmosphere in various rooms. There are some funny decorative details as well. Quite popular amongst tourist especially Friday and Saturday nights.

What can I say about this place. This place is amazing. By far the best experience I had for visiting a club. The place was packed and there were many areas ranging from food to sheehsa to beer and alcohol. We spent 2-3 hours there and still didn't wanted to leave. Loved this place

Absolutely loved it! It's huge! There are like 10 bars inside, each room has a different vibe. You can dance, but also relax and just a drink. Some areas were quite full when we there, but there's always a space somewhere in here. If there would be more places like this, I'd definitely go out more!

Heard many things about the bunker bars in Budapest and this was one of the more famous bars. We went early on a Saturday night and there was no queue and it wasn't too busy. I'm told later on it's heaving and there is a queue. A good atmosphere and great, authentic experience. I've taken off a star because I ordered a double whiskey and was served (and charged) for a double double, so 4 shots in a glass.

One of our favorite places to visit in Budapest! We came 5 years ago and had a blast. Now, we took our family and got to see the magic during the day. Great beers and cocktails. The atmosphere can't be beat. Very artsy and a LOT of fun!

Very chilled, laid back vibes. Cool decor. Lots of different rooms, nooks and corners if you want to cozy up somewhere. Just a heads up, it’s rather touristy (very few locals from what I saw).

Very nice place for drink with friends. A huge pub with unusual design elements, an old Trabant, music, food, a market and a garden. You should visit during a day and in the night, totally different vibe

This place is a tourist must-see. A rabbit warren of bars and food places in a ramshackle, uniquely decorated derelict building. Worth wandering through even if you don't eat or drink. It'd a really great atmosphere and a good spot for a drink. It's more chill in the day and very energetic in the evening!

Szimpla Kert has been my favourite Bar in Budapest since 2014, so 7 years now. Its story is unique, so as the concept. This was the very first ruin pub in the city followed by many others but Szimpla remains “THE ruin bar”. I love that it is always changing and the international atmosphere, too. It is a two-storey building with many different bars and sections inside. There is a regular bar, a cocktail bar, a wine bar, the garden area and some other rooms/sections, too. My favourite place is the wine bar because I could always find special organic Hungarian wines to discover. Must-see place!

One of the best places to hang out. We recently visited this bar during our trip to Budapest. This bar is also known as famous ruin bars in the town. The place and atmosphere is stunning. The drinks we had were amazing. And it added to the vibe. If you are a party lover and love to hang around with friends. Must visit this place if you are in Budapest 👍👌

Great pub in ruins. It is a HUGE place! Unfortunately, I went solo and had no company to chill there and party, so it was a bit dull for me. Overall, I saw a lot of young crowd, groups of friends, drinking all the way across! There was no food in the place! Rightfully, so! It is a pure drinking place! The drinks were decently priced.

This place is hard to describe. It has that amazing ability of capturing "cool" without being pretentious. It is a major tourist spot, but the place is so big and littered with locals, it doesn't feel like it. Prices are as you'd expect in a tourist hub so maybe have a few before you arrive. Definitely worth a visit tho. There were also little mini stages with some live music at a couple of different points in the venue. Great atmosphere!

A magic place in Budapest! The king of the so called "ruin bars" and the perfect place to admire a different kind of art, to meet new people or to drink something. It is full of unusual things, fluo lights, colorful stickers, vintage videos...the music is mostly electronic type. I recommend to go there very early in the weekend, otherwise you will have a long queue.

Be prepared to give your eyes a treat. You’ll be scanning every room and bar for funny, quirky and weird stuff. Loved it here! And to the contrary of what I’ve read online, the staff is in fact very friendly. The bartender even let us taste some wines before ordering.

I guess, this must be one of the craziest and most interesting party locations, I've ever been to.😄 It's not easy to describe, because you get so, so much impressions, even if you just walk a few steps in. There are many different rooms and areas with different artists, bars and very interesting art work. Also the whole place is decorated very, very eclectic and you don't know, where to look first.😄 Szimpla Kert is such a fun place and we had a really good time there! Also the queue in front of the entry moved on faster than we thought!

Great spot to visit. I was most surprised by a live band in a back corner of the bar, with excellent music and no cover charge. The drinks are reasonable for such a busy place with lots of entertainment- live DJ, live band, worth the cost. Lots of selection of cocktails, smaller selection of craft beers but each bar in the venue has slightly different selections.

So I found a new friend in Budapest, she told me all about Szimpla Kert. I had to pay a visit. For someone form North America, from the outside this place looks a little sketchy… but wait… I’ve had the most fun here. This place is so cool and vibrant, great music, It got so many rooms with different designs, street signs, lights, graffitis and so much more, It’s a playground for grownups. This is a fun place to be. Try their cocktails, brunch is very good. Service is a little slow but for a busy place, it is definitely forgive able. I have to come back here next time. I was way too distracted to take pictures of my food. I’m sure someone will post their brunch pictures here.

(Translated by Google) Symbol of the leisure and nightlife of Budapest. It opens from the afternoon, at that time it is very quiet and at night very crowded. It is one of the famous "ruin bars" of the city, old buildings of the Jewish quarter that were abandoned and left in a dilapidated state and later recovered as bars and places of leisure and cultural activities. This is the best known, also the most visited. Inside is great, at least I think these kinds of places are great. It would be ideal if it were less crowded. Entering is like entering a city. Rooms, corridors, stairs, patios, space for concerts, bars of different kinds, ... It is like a neighborhood within a building.

I would called it: a must go place for nightlife of Budapest. Full of colors, lights, good music, really awesome. A must to see in Budapest. Drinks are kind of expensive and bars are always crowded, especially during the weekends. This place is unique, you'll love it.

A special and charming place. Worth a visit. A demolition structure that became a bar. Maze of rooms designed by the guests. Full of life during the day and at night. Highly recommended for a glass of wine or beer. On Sunday there is a farmers market.

Nice atmosphere and vibe , you can chill if you go during the day as we did in June. On Friday evening there was a huge line outside of at least 100 people waiting to enter. Some of the bars were not open on Saturday noon so didn’t have a great experience to have a good drink there - just grab a lemonade. A lot of tourists are going and in the evening and I guess it’s overcrowded then.

Love coming here, visited on both my trips to Budapest. Had waited 6 years to visit and it was better than I'd imagined. Drinks are quite expensive but it's worth it for the experience. Daytime is cool for looking around and exploring the place in relative peace and nighttime is fun for the overall vibes, experiencing it in full swing! Definitely worth a stop, even if just for one drink.

Probably my favorite thing about Budapest and my favorite spot in Europe?? Wild to say but it’s so unique and HUGE! I went both on a Friday night when it was a club, and on a Sunday morning when it’s a farmers market. Such a cool funk space covered in history by all of its patrons - bring a pen so you can write on the wall!

Szimpla Kert is an absolute gem! We had an incredible time there and found it to be a truly authentic and special place. Its somewhat alternative urban style adds to its charm, making it a unique experience. With numerous bars inside, there's something for everyone, and the prices for beer starting at 5€ are reasonable. The wine bar had an impressive selection of wines, and you could order anything from cocktails to soft drinks, just like any other bar. The location is fantastic, offering plenty of opportunities for great photos, especially upstairs, with lots of greenery and a spacious feel. Smoking is allowed almost everywhere outside, and there's even a chance to enjoy a nice hookah. Now, the downside was the not-so-welcoming and dirty toilets, but oddly enough, it somehow fits the vibe of this alternative party spot. During the daytime, finding a spot is easy, but after 20:00, it can get a bit crowded. All in all, I'd give Szimpla Kert a solid 5-star rating. It's undoubtedly the best place in Budapest, and its location in the Jewish quarter surrounded by other bars, cafes, and food spots makes it a must-visit destination.

It’s definitely a touristic place and you won’t find locals here. The beer also is overpriced and it doesn’t have many food options BUT the place is amazing inside. It’s a couple of pubs in this old building and the atmosphere is amazing. I’ve never seen a place like it and you can have so much fun drinking in different rooms. The food was very good too, but not too many options.

Very lively, have to get there around 6/7 if you want a table/seat otherwise very busy. Drinks aren’t too expensive and quick service. Good atmosphere. Main rooms are quirky but side rooms are mostly graffiti walls but that’s part of the charm of this place. Good to visit even just for a drink, depends if the music is your thing!

Such a beautiful and unique space, both at night and during the day! There are so many different rooms to explore and bars to try. It’s an absolute must-see in Budapest and you must try the Hungarian cherry beer! If you’re around on a Sunday, they also have a farmers market from 9am-2pm. They accept Hungarian ft and credit card for payment.

The Farmers Market in Szimpla Kert is a wonderful place to buy good products directly from the manufacturer. Every seller at the market is a real first producer, who brought what they grew and made by their own hands week by week. Here it is possible to buy many types of cheese, honey, jam, syrup, vegetables and fruit, and fresh meat and meat, freshly picked and dried mushrooms, truffle specialties, spices, sandwich spreads. Great choice of homemade sausage. What is common in them is that they are all chemical free and came from the nearby area from the manufacturer. The atmosphere is wonderful, and we can enjoy shopping. Definitely worth a visit.

(Translated by Google) At least it is a very curious place. It is also true that there are times when the traffic of people entering / leaving to just see it makes it less attractive (but that is everyone's fault). If you can have a drink and hang out, don't stop doing it. (Original) Cuanto menos es un lugar muy curioso. También es verdad que hay momentos en los que el tránsito de personas entrando/saliendo para sólo verlo lo hace menos atractivo (pero eso es culpa de todos). It’s a crazy looking place with different environments inside. All of them are pretty wicked and creative. Had a pilsner here. Lots of people, and some smoked … 🙄 Loved the lighting. The people were mostly full of themselves and pretty egoistic. Don’t come here unless you are with friends or with a girlfriend, knowing what to expect.

A nice place to sit down and have a couple of drinks with friends. There are plenty of photo opportunities if you want to take pictures. There are usually a lot of people here and most of them are foreigners. They offer a lot of drinks which are really good but obviously they have higher ‘bar’ prices. Overall, I would recommend going here once or twice, the atmosphere is really good.

Wish we came to check this place out during the night! This is an incredible place for all tourists. It's like some outdoor area with stairs between buildings that they built this into. It was easy to get lost inside. I didn't try the drinks even, but the bars looked to be nicely mad even if the rest of the place felt like a hip homeless shelter that just had a rave.

So much fun!! We did a bar crawl through the ruin bars, and it was a blast. This bar had so much going on, every room and nook at a theme. I loved the atmosphere and the staff was all super friendly. We worked our way throughout the bar, and could’ve easily spent more time there!

What a phenomenal experience. I must say that after visiting some of the most eclectic clubs and bars at Berlin, London or Ibiza, Szimpla Kert has something unique that none of these other places had. Its atmosphere is one of a kind, and if I was living in Budapest, I’d be surely spending time there often. Very glad to see that there are still places so beautiful as Szimpla Kert in the world.

Very cool place, if you're looking for a unique atmosphere and experience. Lots of little rooms with grafitti covered walls. We visited when it was not crowded (late afternoon - early evening on a Monday in November) and explored all the different rooms upstairs and down. I suspect it's much noisier and harder to move around on a busy night. We only had beers and wine - good and inexpensive. People looked like they were enjoying the food.

Great fun place, unusual, interesting design and the atmosphere is nice. I guess it’s one of the most visited places in Budapest because of the randomness and how the interior is made. Definitely loved it, it has good atmosphere. But I would still recommend to clean it more often. The smell of the piss is everywhere and the toilets.. terrible.

If you are in Budapest, it is a place you should not leave without seeing. There are interesting details and funny items everywhere. It's like another utopia. Everyone experiences different emotions. Different music is played in different parts of the venue. It's like a two-story loft and anything can happen at any time.

Even tho it is most popular ruin bar in Budapest, is still worth to go because of always the new crowd there of people. Now during covid not so much but before it always have full table every night with Hungarian and foreign people who want to come and see it. Some of my friends prefer other places but I still like to go 1-2 time every month.

  • 5/5 Samuel M. 3 years ago on Google
This is one of the most unique places I’ve been to in Budapest: even though Ruin Bars are a big deal in the city, this place particularly fits that definition: all sort of old stuff recycled and assembled in order to have a function as part of this bar. It is a bit shocking the first time to see all sort of random stuff together in an “harmonic” way making it a very unforgettable club experience. I liked it a lot. Visiting Szimpla Kert is on the headlines of all “Things to do in Budapest” lists, so I am glad I had the chance to experience it on my own. I invite you all to check this place out, prices are at the standard of any other clubs in the city.

The ruins have a special style, each with different themed compartments. The most interesting thing is that there is a bathtub seat where people will lie in and drink. The quality of the drinks and the service attitude are very ordinary, no special features, but the prices are very cheap.

Amazing place situated in the old ruined building, with its very old underground spirit. You’ll find here multiply bars with all kinds of spirits and beers. Take your time and explore every room and bar step by step. There is a space outside to smoke with a big projector on the wall. Definitely perfect place to have fun and meet people! I was impressed by extremely relaxed atmosphere, cool venue and a bit doggy style of room which I love! There is a DJ as well and it may turn into a party in the evening time. You can grab a Sheesha and smoke it wherever you like ;)

The place was unlike any other. The concept of the "Ruin Bar" was unique. So much to look at you can't possibly capture it all in one evening. (Translated by Google) Several pubs under one roof - interestingly designed, is also considered the oldest ruin bar in Budapest. Late in the evening, however, it is usually much too crowded and loud, so there is hardly any opportunity to relax and chat or even get something to drink. All in all, it's a mish-mash of all kinds of bars and diverse audiences. A visit is definitely worth it!

My friend suggested strawberry lemonade because i don't drink alcohol and it was so good so amazing , you should try it 🎉 the most fabulous part is the design , if you will not sit there just go and visit give it try 😉 .

Great place with a couple of good bars for drinks and a shisha lounge in bath tubs. Also a nice place to spend the night! See it as a mixture between a lounge/bar and a nightclub but than in an old ruin with an alternative style.

A place you should visit every time in Budapest. A place that is art itself and lives its own life. TIP: Let the beer pour into a glass, they do not return deposits for backed up cups, instead of them tokens that are useless.

Wishing to feel the real vibe of this district, we were eager to discover a different world after passing through a bohemian, excentric, colorful entrance. The multitude of objects in various colours, textures that wouldn't normally fit in the same story are randomly spread out through this ruin backyard, filled with good people and good vibe. You couldn't get enough of wondering and discovering the unsual, so we ordered something to drink at the bar and listened to the live music performed outside. An unique and delightful experience, yet maybe not for everyone.

  • 5/5 Jan N. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing experience. Lots of people so not for someone who doesn't like crowds, but the place has amazing vibe. It is definitely a tourist trap, but one you really want to fall into. Go there early, ideally around 8pm in order to avoid a huge line outside. Good drinks for reasonable prices, nice chill background music. And of course the ruined junk state of everything around you is just mesmerising.

  • 5/5 Elli G. 2 years ago on Google
A very unique place combining a variety of styles. A very underground and industrial atmosphere. We went for a visit in the morning and it was almost empty. We visited the same day at night and there was a huuuge line waiting to get inside. In a case like this I would suggest for you to go opposite this place at Szimpla Mini for a drink.

Really fun ruin bar but if you want a quiet place to chill this is probably not for you. When we were there in the afternoon, there were a load of people singing badly super loudly so it was quite annoying. The bar vibe is cool though so if you happen to go in non busy times maybe it would be a better experience. Drinks are in the more expensive side for local bars but not unaffordable

Very cool spot with several bars, including a wine bar! It also has nice music with live DJ when I went - not sure how many times a week though. Highly recommend to stop by to explore this historical Budapest’s spot!

  • 5/5 Alexandra C. 10 months ago on Google
This place is amazing! Such a cool environment. Lots of different nooks to explore. Awesome mix of decorations. I went on two nights. The first had a band jamming in the bigger room, second night had DJs there. There's another DJ spinning hip-hop/funk in the entry hall, but it's much quieter (due to residential location maybe?) and there another area upstairs that can have a DJ, where people are chilling out on the floor and films play on the wall. Most staff seem friendly, but had a few that were just rude and grumpy. Didn't ruin the experience though. Huge (huge!) range of drinks. Definitely something for everyone 😊

I recently visited Ruin Bar in Hungary and it was a truly unforgettable experience. The atmosphere is electric, with an incredible mix of vintage decor and modern art creating a unique and exciting vibe. The drinks were also top-notch, with a wide selection of cocktails and beers to choose from. But what really made my visit special was the friendly and welcoming staff who went out of their way to ensure that everyone was having a great time. I would highly recommend Ruin Bar to anyone looking for a memorable night out in Hungary.

What a crazy place. I had no idea from outside what was inside. Rooms amongst rooms of bars inside a derelict looking building. All rooms have theme. One I visited had a dentist theme. Had a beer in one of the rooms upstairs. There is a market in the main thorough fair area on the Saturday we visited. Outside seating area. We visited during the day as too busy at night.

Interesting bar with different music in different halls, so that you can easily choose where to stay and dance. And change it without leaving the bar. Situated in an old building that had been once smashed, but they kept the walls and the authenticity to it. We went on a Saturday night and the queue was quite long, but it moves fast and there is enough space inside.

  • 5/5 Vicky p. 9 months ago on Google
If you are in town you must visit this place! We absolutely loved the vibes. The drinks are okay, you can get beers, wine and some mixers. The music is really cool and you can enjoy exploring the place. The queue for drinks and toilets wasn’t too bad.

  • 4/5 María 9 months ago on Google
The service is quite quick, the prices vary but there are cheap options like beer/juices and options for kids or people who don't drink. The ambiance is usually good but it can be pretty crowded. The staff normally is good but some waiters are rude. The smothie comes in a 750ml bottle, beware hahaha.

  • 5/5 Lina 8 months ago on Google
This place is really unique, I've never seen anything like this before😻😻 In the evening you can go partying very well here and meet a lot of young people and students. One of the older Ruin Bars in Budapest, and definitely a destination to see. It’s a visual experience and people were lining up outside to get in on a Thursday night. Although it is mainly a younger crowd, there were plenty of “older” folks taking it in. There are different rooms each uniquely decorated that make it fun to walk around and explore. The drinks were moderately priced, and the atmosphere is eccentric to eclectic, but stimulating. When we have more time on our next visit we would like to see more of the Ruin Bars.

  • 5/5 Nanci E. 7 months ago on Google
No food served at all. But it didn’t disappoint at all. My dear ones were just as impressed as I was the first time I visited 7 years ago. This place is a MUST for anyone visiting Budapest. We went on a Monday night. No cover charge, no lines. Not for kids.

This place is insane! There's weird and random stuff absolutely everywhere and it's HUGE. More bars and quirky little rooms than you can count. We had a few cheeky ones and took ages just wandering around and looking at all the strange bits and bobs. There's lots of ruin bars in Budapest, this is the best one.

good atmosphere, there was everything to drink and do, if you like to dance there are two different styles of music and if not there are also good rest areas. it is really an incredible place and very big. The only thing is that you have to queue to get in, but it's free and worth the wait.

  • 5/5 Grace C. 6 months ago on Google
I ordered the Berry Fresh the night we visited around 9.20pm. I suggest going earlier to avoid the huge crowd and line that starts around 20 minutes later. Even when we went, it was quite crowded. Dimly lit atmosphere, pretty good for drinks and casual dancing in the open area. Pricing was definitely on the high end but service was great. Might come back again to explore a bit more.

  • 5/5 Klemen K. 5 months ago on Google
It has really nice vibe, colorful atmosphere and many different places to sit down and have a drink, some of them more public and others more private. At the time od our visit there was also a live acoustic concert. I would definitely highly recommend to visit it.

Extremely busy place, quite hard to get a seat but there are lots of different bars to choose from to get a drink so the service wasn't too slow actually. Not my type of party places. But the atmosphere is interesting. They have many different spots, so you can find what do you like. Lot of ppl most of the time. Cheap alcohol(and also not good) but this is a touristic place I guess, so as everywhere in the touristic places - alcohol is bad. Didn’t see food over there.

A must for anyone visiting Budapest. We had seen this on YouTube when we're looking for ideas for things to do on our visit. We all thoroughly enjoyed it , probably more than we had expected. We visited about 16.00 and it was not busy so we enjoyed a slow walk around taking in the whole experience. From the graffiti to all the miss matched furniture and partially knocked down wall.

The most famous ruin bar in Budapest. We visited on a Sunday evening for a beer. The place is self service, a little bit cold and not so clean (as many tourist-famous places in Budapest). There are a lot of people who visit Szimpla but we found an available table easily. As for the feeling I guess it's good to visit once 🙂

Lively place in town. You need to bring your ID to get in. The place has lots of decorated old rooms where you can sit and enjoy your drink. Unique, artistic and hippy decorations can be found in the building. Colourful lights as well. They have alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. What amazes me is how they utilised the building and made it into how it is now. You can stay on the lower ground or their first floor.

An extremely interesting place, well worth a visit. In the ruins of abandoned buildings, various bars and nightclubs have been created with strange decorations, graffiti and good music. I couldn't stay and just passed by to see the place but I hope the next time I come to Budapest I will visit this place for longer.
